Cannot use bluetooth: "Bluetooth Share keeps stopping" - General Questions and Answers

Bluetooth share on my moto g5 plus doesn't work (Android 7.0). Every time I try to enable bluetooth, the application keeps stopping (crashes at startup).
I tried all of the suggestions I found on the net:
I disabled Google Play Protect
I reset all application settings
I cleared the application cache
I booted to safe mode
I even tried a factory reset
None of these solved the problem.
I got a backtrace but it doesn't look very useful to me (I'll try to attach it).
I noticed an empty /bt_firmware folder – is this normal? Should it contain something?
What could be the cause of this problem? How can I go about debugging it?

As a newbie, I cannot post a link to the backtrace, but it's quite long, so I'm not sure whether I should post it here…

I don't have this device but, the following area of the forum is specific to your device.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus
With that stated...
This is a tough one for locating a thread reflecting this specific issue but, I'm hoping that you'll be able to obtain some member guidance within the following thread that's specific to your device.

Thanks for the hint!
I downloaded potter_NPNS25.137-93-4.zip from there, flashed it using twrp and rebooted. Now bluetooth works again. Even after reinstalling Magisk via twrp.

I'm happy to see that you had located a solution.
I'm not discouraging you from posting a question where you did but, often times, by searching, asking, etc... within the device specific area of the forum, your more likely to obtain something from someone who also has the same device.
Though, sometimes support can be better found elsewhere too...
I just try to help members by pointing the way to, hopefully, get what they need.
Good Luck!

And I'm glad you did. I'm new to Smartphones and the xda forums. This place is huge and kind of intimidating. Often, you have to wade through pages and pages of answers, sorting out the "me too" and "thanks" postings until finding something useful. Finding the right place to ask questions and search for answers is not straightforward, IMO.

I'll give you a, brief, heads up regarding the way to search the XDA Forum...
Basically, the XDA Forum (like Google and many others) uses the Metadata system.
The optimal way (but, not the only way of course) to search for something somewhere that uses this system is very simply put using 1 word "Keyword(s)".
What do I mean by keyword?
For example...
[I'm just going to try to explain this briefly because there's more to it but, you should get the point from the following.]
If I'm looking for a way to Root the Galaxy S3, I would remember to omit words like "AND", "OR", "IF", "I", etc...
If you search using something like "How do I Root the Galaxy S3", your results will be huge and would include results that only have (or a combination of) specific words like "the", "I", "Do", etc...
So you would use keyword searching like "S3 Root", "GS3 Root", etc... as well as other keywords that describe the device.
This is not a thorough and complete description (I do intend to create a Guide/Tutorial regarding this sometime) but, it should give you an idea.
I do wish you the best of luck!!!

Cheers,
Its great, except this is the questions and answers section, saying google it (without even a proper answer in the list) doesn't necessarily get the job done.
"set ringtone ppc" does the job proper. Everyone knows where google is, they probably used it to find this site. The Purpose of the q&a section is not to promote google traffic. If you are going to refer someone somewhere, please make sure you refering them to exactly the right place.

Here are some pieces of software that help you set and further customize windows mobile beyond what it is native to:

I wasn't planning on using it in the Q&A Section of course -

But it will be fun to use in other cases sometimes. I will of course change the auto google search to be relavant to the topic of discussion and make sure that it directs to helpful links. All in fun

I know with my device - Audio Manager has the feature to set MP3 as ringtone.
You can follwo advice above also - . I suggest using a trimmer program to cut the MP3 to save space on your device though.
Another cool app you might want to take a look at for MP3 ring tones is the mp3 ringtone randomizer found at this link here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=370527
just direct the program to the specified folder with your mp3 ringtones and it will automatically randomize your ringtone for each call. I love this.

Sorry, just trying to be funny, but the first link in the list tells him how to set an MP3 as a ring tone, and the second link in the list tells them how to set a message alert. First two links answered both his questions. What could be better than that ?
This is question and answers, but even so, come on . That is Cell phone 101 , read the manual, do a site search ( I have seen that question a hundred times ) make an effort. In some countries they prohibit you from ever owning a PDA again, for those questions.
Just , seriously, for clarification, are those the types of questions that Q & A forum is for ?
Yup - Any and every member needs to feel that they can ask any question - no matter what - even extreem "Noob" questions in the Q&A section without being flammed. It is asked that every member respect this and if answering a question in the Q&A Section that you don't just say "Search" or "Read the WIKI" but at least provide links to WIKI if you are referring to this. I personally don't see the harm in the link you provided "although funny" serves two purposes. You didn't flame the OP for asking silly question but provided a useful (and funny) link that pointed him in the right direction to answer his question and aslo made a statement that a simple search would have answered the question. I see no harm in that either as there are a lot of people who do not take the time to search for themselves or they just don't know what keywords to use in the search field. (You also provided hints on what kind of search words to use) When I answer questions in the Q&A Section, I Provide links to where they can find their answer to their question or just sometimes answer it right there it it is an easy question; however, after answering I sometimes point out that searching using certain keywords would have yielded results (I like your way better) There are a lot of questions asked that seem rather simple and "Noobish" to us, but to beginner's they need to be shown how to properly use this forum sometimes and I think that the Q&A section is a wonderful thing for everyone because, there is so much to learn and it can be very overwhelming especially for new commers.
This should work for you...
Following the raptious support and humiliation ive suffered, i guess i can only blame myself for not only including what phone i have (htc touch hd) but more so not taking the time to research such questions properly!
Unfortunately i havent had 5 mins to myself to play with all areas of the phone, but now ive managed to sort the ringtone situation out, aided by the mp3 trimmer!
I guess its easy for those high up on knowledge to look down and laugh when you dont know jack, but hey done now, although saying that, i cant find where i can possibly delete some of the ringtones/beeps that come as standard, maybe someone could help me out there? again would be appreciated.

Secondly, find those files in your ringtone folder with file explorer, or in your windows folder, file explorer>my device>windows your files will be in there.

The " base " ringtones that come with the rom, are written into the rom and cannot be deleted. All other tone and notifications can be added and deleted anytime.
alright cheers, but i set couple songs to be ringtones, ive since deleted them from windows media library and on file explorer on the phone, but still they show up as available to choose as a tone????
Yes but did you delete them from the /windows folder, that is where they are played from.
Then Soft reset.
yep i did that, and still there available to choose as tones!

I know its here somewhere......

Right off the bat, let me apologize for being such a noob. But for the life of me, I cant seem to find out how to actually dual boot WinMo and Android on my TMOUS htc hd2. I have searched using every term and phrase i can think of and nothing. Please keep in mind that I am not only new to this type of stuff, but to forums as well. So then I tried to find out how to flash a rom and radio, and come up empty there too. I couldn't even find if thats all the steps to change a phone. I am willing to learn, WANT to learn, but need a little boost to get started. I am supremely interested in figuring out how to use Ubuntu on my hd2 (thats what my main computer is), but i figure thats probably harder than the rest so i didn't even search it. Please no comments on how noobish I am please. I am already aware of this fact. And if i posted this in the wrong place, or this kind of question is not allowed, moderators feel free to delete or move it (not that you need MY permission). Thanks in advance for any help on this matter, and as I said at the beginning, please forgive my noobishness.
Another Question.....
Another question I wanted to ask that I haven't yet found an answer to was whether or not a computer has to be used for anything other than loading files onto the SD card, and if so, are the programs running on the computer compatible with linux? If not, are they able to run on wine? Again any help is greatly appreciated.
Used to be new too

Don't lurk on that phone so don't know if they have a wiki setup. Most likely do. Most phone's have wiki sections that if you read em will all the info you need. You said you're open and want to learn, keep that up.
For reference on searching, the search system is setup like a/the forum sub section, kinda like a file system.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=631
Use the "search this forum" button here on this page to do a search on just that phone's forum. If you use the same button on the accessories main page, it will just search that phone's acc forum. Same goes if you search the xda main forum page, you'll be searching everything.
I did notice yesterday and today the search was acting up, giving me 0 results for topics I know are here, then just searched for general things like case and unlock, still nothing. That may have been the problem you were having, too.
Good Luck
Thank You
That was the problem I was having. I would search, but come up with no or very few results. Thank you for your help. I didn't read all the stickies or even check the wiki, like i said, I'm a noob. Well, far as I am concerned this thread can be closed.

I FINALLY found a downloadable and functional apk for this forum's app (Google Play store will not play with my device at present ... That is one of the reasons that I am here) ... and that is helping me a LOT!
Perhaps it would be a good idea for you to make it a point to strongly recommend the XDA forums app to newly arriving members here.
I TRULY think that the website UI here could use some development to make it much more new-user-friendly, however.
... Another point ...
Maybe I am missing some kind of search filtering option, but, I do not see any value in hundreds of thousands of non-applicable and irrelevant search results when trying to find something here. Perhaps someone could direct me to such filtering options if they do, indeed, exist.
In closing, I must say that the reception I received when joining here was very pleasant and I am already on my way via some help
and advice from a couple of members here to solve my crashed Play Store problem.

ZTE Nubia z17 Lite Service Codes

I have very little idea what I'm talking about (I've just started teaching myself C# so I'm not a dev). I just got this phone yesterday and am trying to follow a guide on here to add GSM and LTE bands because it doesn't work well in the states. Anyway, there's a step that calls for accessing the USB settings menu with a service/dialer code and I have no idea what that code is. I've tried things that have worked on other phones but they aren't working for this one. Would anyone happen to know what the code is to access this menu? Or have a way to find the code? I've already rooted my phone, so if there's a place where that information is stored, I may be able to find it.

I saw that as well. I'm not sure if any of these codes actually work. It seems like my phone recognizes them, but no action is performed when I try to use them. And the one thing that I can't seem to find access to is the USB Settings Menu that's apparently necessary for this process.

It doesn't work at all. Search "everywhere" or "threads" "forum and devices" all yield identical result. And you'd know that if you actually use the function yourself.
There is another button says "search forums" and all it does is search globally.
I think XDA-Developer's new website is trying to boost the site's activities by deliberately crippling the search function and encourage people to ask the same question again and again.
A prime example of "if it is not broken, let's break it for kicks"
Someone is having some sort of weird satisfaction by watching their users hopelessly trying to find their answer and couldn't find any. It's like watching his pet mouse couldn't get out of a maze.
The previous search was intuitive. It used to produce results sorted to newest first. Please tell me how to get results sorted to descending order of date now.

This message was from quite long ago, some things may have changed. When I wrote this message I used the function, and it worked just fine.
I know, the search function isn't working flawlessly rn, but things keeps moving, so be patient.
And do you seriously think xda is deliberately breaking the search function to make users mad ?? Do you really think that xda would deliberately force its users to clog the already full Q'n'A forum with useless repeated questions ? You're saying "boost the activity" when it's literally spamming the forum with old questions that contributors will just answer by ("see here: link)" anyway. XDA isn't payed for how much post/thread is created, in fact it's the opposite! You come with assumptions on how works the whole thing, those are assumptions, so you can complain about the search function no problem but keep those theories of yours for yourself.
And if you want you can just use google:
[your search] site:forum.xda-developers.com
I get it you're frustrated, but be nice when posting, I would've happily told you that trick if you did so. I still did, but it wasn't heartily...

I can't agree more with @kngharv : It's impossible that a website like xda-developers hasn't managed (unless intentionally) to fix this issue in months. I'm sure they could fix it in a couple of hourse if they wanted to.

In January at the time when the post was created that you quoted the search function was indeed broken. However, at least for me it seems to be completely fixed already for weeks or months. I've personally no issues at all, neither with a general search on XDA or e.g. a specific in-thread search. For me it's obvious that meanwhile the complete database has been transfered and indexed after the transition from vBulletin to Xenforo and the new servers.
If you still have problems please provide some more information, examples or screenshots to allow us to support and assist you in fixing your problem. Such a generic statement like yours isn't really helpful in trouble-shooting.
And I hope you don't mind that I don't respond to the unsubstantial assumptions and accusations in the post to that you completely agree. Even during the times of the broken search we enforced implementation of rule no. 5 of the XDA Forum Rules, and removed duplicated posts or questions or closed threads if a subject matter related one already existed.
