Hey guys, I've had my HTC u11 since release, from Canada.
Believe I have a faulty USB c port
When I connect my charger it doesn't fast charge.
When I connect the dongle it doesn't get recognized
When I connect the sonic ear phones it's very low volume on the left ear.
And doesn't connect to PC. It gives "device is malfunctioning" error
I've tried cleaning the port
Tried different chargers, cables
Factory reset
So probably have to send it for warranty
The thing is I have bootloader unlocked. It's stock rom. Since I can't connect to USB not able to fastboot
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Unlocked bootloader doesn't break warranty but flashing roms does.
Have you made sure you've got all the dust and fluff out of the port with a pin?
Have you tried multiple USB-C cables? Hopefully it is just a worn cable and a new one will remedy your issues.
Thank you so much for your responses.
I have tried different cables, power adapters. Tried in Friends houses in case I had bad house electrical wiring lol
Nothing worked
First step was cleaned the USB c port carefully and thoroughly.
I'm quite certain it's a faulty USB pcd board.
I'm just worried as their warranty excludes "unlocked bootloader" even though they initially advertise it wouldnt void it. I have webarchive of the ad so if they try to deny warranty I will pull that card
But I essentially want to avoid any argument when they have pocession of my phone.
There's a post about experience people have had with warranty. I'll have a read at that.
But if someone who's in Canada sent their phone unlocked and had no issues please let me know!!
Is there no way to lock bootloader without hooking up to PC?

So this issue started a few days ago. Any time I plugged my phone in it would constantly connect and disconnect from the pc. I've tried multiple usb cables, ports, and the 3 PCs I have with the same result on each. Now when I plug it in, it is no longer being recognized by the PC, Odin, ADB, etc... It will charge but that is it.
I have a warranty replacement coming to me however I need to be able to get this one back to stock... Any suggestions?
Before anyone asks, NO it has never been wet, dropped, damaged in any way, set on fire, caught in a land slide, earthquake, what have you.. The phone itself functions perfectly fine. All drivers are up to date, none of my PCs configurations have changed. I have one I use specifically for app development and not even that one will see the phone.
I had the same problem. I used a different cable and it all worked better....now with that said it happened again so I flashed my phone back to stock and all was well.
Then went to flashing ROMS.

Really check out the micro usb cable. A bad cable will just about always allow a device to charge, but data transfer is another story. If you really have tried a few micro USB cables, then it the problem relies elsewhere. Try restarting both phone and PC, and if neither works, sounds like you have a busted port on the Skyrocket.
Thank you both for your responses. I am a PC technician so I followed my usual troubleshooting steps to figure this out. I narrowed it down to either all of my cables are bad (not a chance) or the phone is just f**ked (likely). Ah well ill have to try to use another way to force the stock firmware and recovery on here. Lol
HTC = Hate The Consumer
I use my old Nokia OEM USB cable. Connects with the right number of pins on the USB connection end. I'd check your USB cables for # of pins . Skyrocket uses 5 I believe. Also that there is sufficient power to your USB ports. Aka avoid front USB ports which could only be 4 pin....

When you plug the usb cable in, do you see the usb icon at the top left of your screen? I have to pull that window down to tell it to connect to pc, then confirm it again before mine connects. Mine doesn't auto connect on its own.
I see you've been a member for a few years so if its not connecting, that really sucks man. Hope you get it figured out.

Not running the AOKP ROM are you? The R3 build had an issue with this, and all AOKP will disable USB to PC if you enable 'fast charge' under ROM Control...
Good luck :S
According to what I've been reading you can try using the *#7284# code and setting the USB portion from PDA to MODEM and then back to PDA and it would kickstart the connection. No dice for me though. Ive been through 7 different USB cables already.. I am not about to go and buy one just to keep playing with it my other phones connect just fine using the same cables. No, I am running the latest Sky ICS
Hi guys
Anyone know where to buy a GENUINE usb cable? They are the only ones that work with ADB, as I have many micro-usb (blackberry, generic, etc) but only my HTC one actually works with ADB. Anyone know where to buy one?
Cheers
I've purchased a few from ebay that claim to be the real deal, the only thing that says htc is a removable stick which makes me doubt the authenticity but I assure you the work fine with
adb. they only cost around $2. there are tons of them on ebay, just search htc micro usb cable
if you want the exact link to what I bought let me know and ill post

I can tell you for a fact that is not true, I've never had the original cable since my brother gave me his G2, and I've been using a Nook micro-usb cable with my phone ever since I owned it on my computer.
A Genuine micro-USB cable is no different in communication than any other micro-usb cable, if you're using windows you probably just got the USB drivers wrong for your phone, or didn't download all of the platform-tools files. Again the only thing that makes the cable genuine is the htc/t-mobile logo on it, otherwise it's the same as any other OEM/Generic cable thats been branded.
PS: Did you remember to enable USB Debugging?
Thanks guys, I ordered one off ebay for £2 and yeah I did enable usb debugging

i have tried loads of different genuine micro usb cables from various makers and never had a problem...
shame i didnt see this earlier or i could have sent you about 20 for free
So if USB Debugging is working is there no threat to using a generic USB cable? I have a generic one and rooted last night. The entire time I was nervous because there were a lot of posts about the official HTC cable. Was I worrying needlessly?
Yup, it is true some might not work but if they work once, well they should keep on working. Pretty much if you have debugging on and the proper drivers and everything else... then you type adb devices and you see your serial number, that cable is just fine. If it says waiting for device or something like that, then it is possible you have a bad cable but almost always a different problem

Thanks! That would have saved some needless worrying last night but it all worked out. Good to know for the future though!
Afaik, there are only two kinds of micro-USB cables. Normally they support both data and power (charging), but some only support charging (data pins aren't connected).
I bought some cheapest retractable micro-USB data cables from dx.com and they work just fine. The cheap retractable ones just seem to easily break after long use.

The most common chance of you getting a charge-only USB cable, is if it came with something like a Car charger. Otherwise they should always have both the power and data pins.
I had my USB working properly till one day when all of a suddenly socket was broken. Don't know how it happend but USB socket was phisically damaged (plate with pins broken and pins hanging in the air without support). After puting the plug in it worked but only charging (I was suprised, that it worked at all). So I took it to nearest cell phone workshop and asked to replace micro USB socket in the phone. When they did it they informed me that it's charging but there is something wrong with data connection because phone is not recognised by any PC. Now it comes to my question. Phone, when connected to PC (several cables and PC's ) is displayed as "NOT RECOGNISED DEVICE" No matter if I connect it with SD card, without card, without battery, in working state or in fastboot. May it be USB brick which might be solved similar to HTC Desire solution ?
Sorry for typhos and grammar, English is not my native language.
I'd think that the physical damage has cut some contacts on the board.
You will have to live without USB connection

Hey everyone,
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.
My S6 will now no longer charge in the house, Unless im charging it wireless. I have a cigarete charger in the car that has two connections, 1.0A and 2.1A Plugging it into the 1.0 side does nothing but plugging it into the 2.1 side charges straight away, I have Ipad and Iphone chargers aswell and nothing charges it in the house.
Also if I try connect it to my computer I get the following " Unknown USB Device Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
A request for the USB device descriptor failed.
Can anyone help me please... Its still covered under warranty by samsung till December this year so if I cant resolve it I might try contacting them.
Actually how would I even go about doing that? I live in Ireland by the way.
Thanks
Peace Out lol

have you tried a different cable? And maybe your USB port is somehow broken
I have indeed, tried different cables and different computers.
Sounds like it could possibly be be the port on the phone itself. Only way to tell is to do a factory reset and see if the problem still exists, if it does seeing as it under warranty, If the phone is still under contract call your network provider otherwise you will most likely have to call samsung UK and see which way to go about getting it looked at
Try switching it off and charging? Before resetting.
Mostly a hardware issue, and hopefully a connector issue.
Thanks guys,
I have tried everything that has been suggested, I suppose I will ring Samsung and see what they say.
Try to clean the usb port
It could be dust that prevents a good contact to charge the phone properly
I saved a few phones to be trashed by just cleaning the usb port
Maybe that helps you!
Have a nice day!
To start off my USB port seems to be malfunctioning. I can charge but will always get the " charging slow" error. It will even charge via usb port on a pc but it will not recognize it as an external Storage unit. Ive changed the usb settings via developer settings. However i do not get a usb notification on my phone giving me the option to switch the function.
Is there a way to connect to a PC to use flashing tools/ADB in order to unlock my loader as well as flash and send commands to my phone. I can use LG AirDrive but i do not believe commands can be sent through that. Would greatly appreciate help since im lead to believe rooting has just hit for the Stylo 4.
If it is any importance. I am on the stylo 4 bought through best buy not attached to any carrier Q710ULM is my model number
Did you try another USB cable? Ive had several that broken inside and the same happened. Changing USB cable solved it
Ive tried several. It is definetly my USB port. I think dollar store chargers did it in. And now since its always slowly charging i think it won't do any data transfer maybe in fear of loss of data due to bad connection?

Yours is a micro USB port right? Most likely it's a faulty USB port. See if you can get a store to replace it
Yes. Well a Type C but android charger none the less. I guess id have to send to LG to honor the warranty. I didnt purchase ot from a carrier and also did not get aj insurance plan when i connected it to t mobile.
In other words you are saying im SOL for getting on ADB? Atleast until a one click root has a method for this device.
Just to test. Did you test in another computer to see if it is detects it?
My computer corrupted the adb connection due to faulty drivers. Reinstalling windows fixed it because in another computer that i have it was detected normally. It's just to test the whole scenario here. If it doesn't work RMA it to LG
Yes I tested it on a computer as well as multiple outlets. I finally just took the back off and took out the port. It had a lot of corrosion around it. Almost all teal colored. I blame those dollar store chargers. I have no other explanation behind why it happened. Either way there is luckily someone wihtin range selling a bunch of parts on offerup so I was able to pick uo a new port for 7 dollars off of him. When I removed the back I was pretty surprised to see how the "non-removable" batteries are packages in there. Just a bunch of layers wrapped up in thin plastic with some tape around it. haha
