*UPDATE*
Easier method using ADB commands from luisshnyder and I.
Go on ADB commands, and type: "adb shell wm overscan 0,0,0,-168"
0,0,0,-X is the value that determines how much you push the navigation bar down off the screen. In luisshnyder's experience with a s8, and s9 he found that -210 is a good value for X. However, I had issues in some apps and used Snapchat (with my camera covered for a black background) to pinpoint a position where the navigation bar disappeared. This was a value of -168 for X. This means that I can now send snaps fine as before with a higher value the UI scales off the screen making it impossible to send snaps with text. This was tested on an s8+ however. Of course, if you want to return the navigation bar back to its original position just use 0 as a value for X.
Again thank you to luisshnyder for the help in finding this method.
Hello,
I have posted this as a reply over on the thread "Getting rid of Galaxy S8 Navigation Bar - Full screen navigation" by " juliang22" but wanted to try and get this solution out there as I know how hard it was for me to try and find a working solution without a root.
*Note*
I have only tested this on a Galaxy S8+ unlocked.
This method assumes you already have the apps installed for your new gesture keys that are explained in the original post of this thread and have cloned it successfully.
There is a small fee to this method but I can't for the life of me find another way.
This method may be out there already somewhere but I couldn't find it or at least find instructions for someone like me.
*Method*
Ok so first you will need to install the following apps on your device:
Substratum
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=projekt.substratum&hl=en
Andromeda
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=projekt.andromeda&hl=en
[Substratum] Samsung System Mods
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=substratum.draco.systemmods&hl=en
Immersive - Low-Level Immersive Mode
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.draco.immersive&hl=en
You will get a red box when opening andromeda but this is fine, I will explain this in a bit.
Next open the immersive app and enable immersive full from within it. (Note you will have to go onto a computer to run the adb command from within cmd.exe. Just type it as it tells you to)
Once you have done this, open Andromeda. A red box should appear. Go back onto your computer and install the appropriate program for your machine from step one of this thread "https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/substratum/andromeda-desktop-clients-release-notes-t3668682"
Extract the downloaded file and open the readme.txt file. Plug your device into your computer. Then click on the "start_andromeda" file, run it then hit any key.
Return to your device and substratum should open fine. The andromeda desktop client should connect fine and you should get a green box when checking the status. Substratum will then reopen and you should see the samsung system mods as a black box option upon launch.
Click on the system mods option. Scroll down to the orange system ui and toggle the check box on the right. Then click the down arrow below it and search for "Oreo (S8) Narrow Nav" Click this. Then click the grey circle at the bottom right and select "build and enable".
Once you have done this go back within the app. Click "manager" at the bottom and then select the check box next to the narrow nav overlay you just "built". Click the grey circle again and choose "enable selected".
I have been faffing around with methods for hours now so I don't know if it is required to restart your phone but I did and it seems to be working fine. Hey now I seem to have the hard press function back over the original method in this thread.
Sorry if my instructions aren't clear but this is my first time at this. If you need a hand I'll be more than happy to try and help but to be honest I was so excited to get this to work after hours of experimenting.

I did this and it seems to work, my only issue being that technically when I swipe up, the navigation bar is still there (but completely invisible). I use LMT launcher, so instead of swiping up and to the option I want, I swipe up and LMT floats above the space where the navigation bar would be. That was just enough to have me shelf the idea until something slightly better is out there. That being said, if you're using other navigation means, this might be the right option for you!

No that method doesn't work on Oreo which is a real pain and prompted me to try and find another solution since there are no methods to do it without a root. I am using all in one gestures and no other buttons seem to work.,

Looks like you've only enabled immersive mode. Have you definitely built and enabled the overlay through substratum. Try resetting your phone or retrying as this does work according to others? Also might want to try disabling the dot that samsung lets you use to hide the nav bar. Might conflict with the immersive mode app.

I'd honestly just try it over. Make sure you enable full immersive mode from the app I linked and not from any other app. Turn off the dot feature.
Work around that works
I've tried every single method here, and nothing did the trick for me, so i found a work around for myself, and decided to share, cause i've been frustated trying and trying after updating to oreo.
Assuming you know your work around on ADB commands, and do the basics like turn on immersive status:
1. turn on immersive status bar;
2. go on ADB commands, and type: Adb shell wm overscan 0,0,0,-210
( 0,0,0,-x is the value that determines how much you wanna push the nav bar off the screen, on my galaxy s8 and s9 -210 is the sweet spot, but you can trial and error till you find your devices sweet spot) ( to revert to origianl just type Adb shell wm overscan 0,0,0,0
3. install all in one gestures, work well, and very customizable and easy to use: (search on playstore)

This is a really interesting way of doing it, thanks for sharing. Does this act like the old method for doing it on nouget where the nav bar is effectively disabled and not there? Will have to give this a go. What does the keyboard look like? Could you post a picture? Also by immersive status bar do you mean the nav bar?

Immersive status bar is the bar at the top. But that's optional. I just don't like to see clock and those informations up there so I turn it off. So my screen is fully immersive. Everything works well. I really want to share pictures so you guys see how awesome it looks. Maybe I'll share them with you and you repost them here please?

Good work. Now that you've removed them from the t-mobile g2, can I have them on my Verizon g2?
Actually, all I want is the brightness slider, no use for the volume one. Is this something you could do as a request if I provide the Verizon systemUI.apk and do the testing? I would just about kill to have the brightness slider on mine, but it is not part of the Verizon rom.

I don't think so, but I don't really know. All the carriers modified the UI a bit so I dont really know if they are interchangeable. If you really want to try, just make sure you have a backup of the stock apk and odex file!

The Verizon version doesn't have the sound bar and brightness bar issue in stock version. Verizon has a slightly modified version of the software. Now I don't know if there is a way to add the brightness slider on the Verizon version.
This sound and brightness slider issue affects the international versions of the G2 which are on ATT, Sprint and Tmobile. Hopefully someone with an ATT version can try this fix out and see if this works.

Re: AT&T see my other thread here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2453457
I poked around the Verizon xml's and smali code and found pretty much a carbon copy of what is in AT&T's. It actually surprises me based on a cursory look that Verizon's volume slider isn't enabled, because as best I can tell it should be. On the plus side, all the code for tracking changes to it and updating it and what-have-you are in the code. So it appears to be fully implemented behind the scenes...just not displaying, apparently.
As far as the brightness slider goes, same story, I *think* it is just a matter of flipping a couple const's in the OperatorFeature.smali
Unfortunately, my VZW framework files are a little borked for some reason so I can't get a full decompile/compile and also have no phone to test against, alas.
will this work on international version?

Thanks for this!! To everyone that has no experience using ADB/shell this is very good practice. It's good to know your way around ADB even if it's just basic commands. I'm no expert, but I've done some homework and the info is out there if you want to learn.
Edit: Just remembered I was using a modified LGsystemUI that makes the status bar all-black instead of the gray gradient. Is there any way to merge these two modifications so it's not an either/or scenario?

For the sake of helping u improve upon an already decent app i just wanted to post to confirm the color cange bug on the tab S...although i'm aware that it was not created to be used on our device there will definitely be a demand for a free unlimited hack from other samsung owners i'm sure. I suggest adding a list of options available in the pro version to the op so u wont get duplicate feature requests constantly throughout the thread...if i had any recommendations for u it would be to add an on/off button to the notification itself so users can just pull down the bar and make it disappear with one click just like the real toolbox instead of needing to actually open the ap, pressing menu then selecting stop. Lol...looks like i need to edit my own post because i just found out that u have a hold to disable feature built into the floating icon so nevermind on that request as i suppose thats just as good if not better. You might want to make note of that in your first post as well...along with other features/instructions because many users may not read the app description in the play store & a lil redundancy never hurts

Just can't win with you THEDEVIOUS1 LOL. If I had been smart enough to swipe rather then scroll I might have been able to test all those features.
I'll wait for the dev to reply to my other post before editing again. lol

Play Store says it's compatible so people would assume it should work on their devices.
Thx THEDEVIOUS1 and k0sh.

k0sh, don't know what you meant by "dig into that now" but if your referring to anything I said about the scrolling and the swiping they work fine on the Tab S 10.5.

Sorry for the confusion k0sh. Here is my earlier problem and requests:
Everything works on my Tab S 10.5 EXCEPT for CHANGING THE FLOATING TOOLBAR ICON COLOR. No matter what color I set it to it never takes. Changing the background color works fine though.
I have a couple of requests if you decide to continue to refine the app:
-Allow user to set the Floating Toolbox icon even smaller then it is now. I have it all the way down and I still find it too big on the tablet in comparison the the OEM Toolbox.
-Allow user to change icon transparency as I find it too bright
-Allow alternate icon or little round button like OEM.
Thanks again k0sh for all the attention your giving this.

Hi, I read one article and saw some videos on youtube about the newly released update for Galaxy S8 LINK : http://sihmar.com/software-update-g955fxxu1aqf7-galaxy-s8-plus-released/
However, mine is not receiving any, the latest update on my S8 plus is G955FXXU1AQEB, my model is SM-G955F.
I personally the additional button to hide the nav bar is great!
How about yours, I'm living in Europe (France)
Thanks guys,
Updates roll out in different regions at different times.
It will be a very good update for me, because in normal use I almost never press the back navigation button, and the force-touch home button will still work even though the navigation bar isn't there. And there being no software buttons blocking the view, the bottom bezel will seem even more tiny, and the screen's roundness will be brought out more. Some people have complained about the update removing the ability to have a black navigation bar, but I don't see any point in coloring the bar black, it breaks the immersion and creates burn-ins. So no downsides for me, so looking forward to the update in the coming days (or weeks possibly?)
Native Android 7 means enable you to hide/swipe up your navbar same as it is implemented in the latest update though.
Just use ADB command line for this while you are awaiting the update.

In settings, if you go to Display>Advanced>Display Size and turn it to small it makes content on the display smaller.

Enable developer options and set smallest width to 500 .You might want to also max out text size in display settings. Still not small enough, go up to 580!
Anyone know a launcher which will hide the navbar. I know lineage OS has the option to hide status and/or navbar.. I don't feel like using the adb hack to go immersive mode, would be nice if a launcher offered the option

I know you didn't feel like using the adb hack, but if you were happy to have a single adb session you could use SystemUI Tuner - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zacharee1.systemuituner . You just need to set give it the required permissions in adb and then you can control immersive mode from the app whenever you fancy.
It also allows a couple of other handy things like setting custom notification snooze durations.
Thanks I will try this.

Thanks. I am looking to hide it like lineage OS where you can swipe up to see it again, not totally remove it. Was hoping a launcher might have that but haven't seen one yet.
How to move the clock on the right or put it in the center on android pie
There is a way to move the clock on the right where it was. For me, personally, I get used to to be in the left, but I also like to be able to personalize my phone on the way I want. Now, this is possible
1. You need to install an app called System UI Tuner and register for the beta program. After this, you have to receive an update of the app. Update it.
2. Need to give it permission through ADB. Here are the commands:
adb shell pm grant com.zacharee1.systemuituner android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
adb shell pm grant com.zacharee1.systemuituner android.permission.PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS
adb shell pm grant com.zacharee1.systemuituner android.permission.DUMP
3.Go to Status bar > Custom and click Add item. Enter the key "right_clock_position". Enter whatever name for it you want. The new item will be created. Toggle it OFF.

The littles little buggy for me, just keep it in mind. Also, the clock can be moved in the center with "middle_clock_position"

Thank you sooooooo much for this FIX, it was driving me nuts!
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! Best pie mod ever!
fantastic app, there is the option to hide status bar e recall it with a swype when needed
Wish this had come out sooner, but LOVE it!
OK, I'm an idiot...where do I sign up for the beta of System UI Tuner?
I found it.... (I'm still an idiot)
From the last update of the app, you don't need anymore to add keys. There is option for moving the clock.

So glad to have the clock back where it belongs

So where is it?
After you have installed the app, wait about 15 - 20 minutes, and go back into the play store on that app, and you should see a link to join the beta program. I did it from the phone, I don't know if it shows up on a PC.
AWESOME!!! Thanks ?
Does it have date in status bar?

FYI,to the OP and everyone who used this method: You don't need to do anything in special to accomplish this. Go to settings>press the magnifying glass and type in "clock"> go to "clock style" and choose whatever one you desire including the big font one prior to android pie. Your welcome.

Must of overlooked the status bar part.
Good lock app is now available in Galaxy Store with a module to move the clock position in the status bar, as well as tons more awesome customization options. For those of you who have disabled galaxy store, the apk for Good Lock and its modules can also be found on apkmirror.com
I had never used this app prior to Pie but I must say, its pretty friggin sweet! I highly recommend it to all galaxy device owners (unfortunately it's not yet compatible with Galaxy S10(+) apparently)

Anyway to show date on the status bar without an app?
I don't think is possible? At least I don't know.
PS:
About the guide in OP. Now is kinda useless because you can do this with Good Lock.
I tried it on my huawei mate 10 and it didn't work. Is a reboot needed after, perhaps? I prefer the clock in the middle.
