After the update i cannot see the status bar, and have no settings to re-enable it other than the std recent notifications and battery percentage.
I have also tried: adb shell settings put global policy_control null* to turn off immersive mode but have had no success
Anyone had this problem? I'm on day 4 of no status bar ... and .... its... killing.... me.

Warning - It does not allow swipe down of the notification or use navigation bar. You have to use workaround to get navigation bar and notification bar. For example search for Pie control /Side bar apps on google play. You could also use gesture control apps.
Try below apps for navigation as nav bar and notifications are gone for good-
https://apkpure.com/side-apps-bar-edge-sidebar/infamous.apps.appsbarfree
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.suphi.swipenavigation
I use fingerprint sensor swipe for notification bar pull down.
--------------------------
Found an app which actually hiding nav bar and notification bar and making full use of screen. It works with most apps including chrome.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.immersive&rdid=com.gmd.immersive
Keyboard is not working in immersive mode though.
This one works too
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.omerjerk.fullscreenimmersive
It does work but is very buggy with keyboard and other issues ,I'm no Dev so it's easy for me to say but I just wish essential did fully immersive.Ive got rid of nav bar via Adb and it work flawless with the layout app.But getting apps to use notification area seems to be very problematic, and if essential sort this it will make the screen estate so much better ,the few apps like Google maps photos etc that do use full screen look outstanding

Thanks for the suggestion. I replaced the asterisk with a few select apps that would benefit and the status bar indeed autohides. Unfortunately, it doesn't draw over where the status bar would be. Any suggestions?
That's the issue faced with a lot of this immersive app,it hides stays bar but doesn't use it for apps, attached are maps and photos apps taking full use of screen ,will using the adb command above do this

I tried this, this is hiding status bar but status bar becomes black strip and apps are not using that space. If I use GMD, apps using full screen. Thoughts ?
Agree tried gmd just too many bugs with keyboard etc for every day use. Some Devs have fully immersive in their ROMs but not sure if it uses full screen on apps or just puts a black bar there
This should be a priority for essential, and when apps.use the full screen including the notch they really stand out

how about editing the Navbar height without gravitybox?
Immersive mode doesn't work in landscape mode, right?

I never understood hiding the status bar...
Now especially with the way the camera notch is... Let there be the unused space... Whatever else you put there is gonna be impeded...
Hi guys! I'm new with the PH1 but I've always hated the navbar. I just found a module on magisk called hide navigation bar, you need busybox too. It works, I got force close of system ui on boot but after that works! I'm on magisk 15, it worked on 14.3 also.
The navbar is gone for good, it uses the old method changing qemu.hw.mainkeys

Like setting "wm overscan 0,-?,0,0" forcing the navigation bar above the visiable screen space?
Try this one, again keyboard need to be enabled via floating button

Yes it is but you will Need access to ADB.
Basically you would. Open a Adb shell and type "wm overscan 0,0,0,-23" you can Make. It. As Thick Or Thin as you want. I hope I understand your question and could Help.

didn't work, I tried "adb shell wm overscan 0,0,0,-15" and the navbar height still the same.
worked for me! You have to do adb shell, then the other command.
I set it to - 140 to completly remove it. Then I use swype navigation.
Thanks!
Yeah worked great, I was doing it wrong.
But what are the other values for " 0,0,0,-23"?

[GUIDE][17-3-2018]Auto Hide Status & Navigation Bar in All Apps[No Root]

Hi guys, i am a new proud owner of HTC U11+, i received it today .
A brief history, before this device i had and still do a Nexus 6p but i think its days are numbered. Having said that it was my favorite owned device to date i am also active on XDA forums mostly writing guides about needed simple tricks. Last year my thread got famous around the internet for showing how to hide the Status and Navigation bar which benefited alot of Samsung S8/S8+ users.
Ok enough about that, so here is how to auto hide the status bar and navigation bar on all apps except the "Home Screen" without using any app for that. For some reason the navigation & status bar will unhide it self once you start another app, for now there is no remedy for it.
One more thing, one would ask what is the benefit of doing this?, well the short answer is you will have a bigger app screen size which will result in a more enjoyable experience.
Requirements:
-adb/fastboot environment (adb shell) on your PC after connecting the phone in file transfer mode and usb debugging is on
-Connect the device and run the command lines:
How To:
· Hide Status Bar only type:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.status=*
· Hide Navigation Bar only type:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=*
· Hide Both Bars type (Immersive Mode):
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
· Back to normal/default state:
adb shell settings put global policy_control null*
Now, since our device has a shortcut to hide the navigation bar but not the status bar this is where the immersive command line is most useful.
Note: Please run the command line again in apps where the effect hasn't applied to, do it while you are still in the app. also if you need certain apps with the status bar shown still then please visit my Nexus 6p thread which is more specific.
Finally, this method isn't stable, meaning if you use the shortcut from the navigation bar to hide the bar you will need to reapply the command line once again to get the immersive mode back, another alternative method to this is to use an app from the play store.
Update( 17-3-2018):
-To make the navigation bar hide and stick on the launcher home page without going back to normal after you start another app, remove the "show hide navigation bar" shortcut in the navigation bar first or second panel and reapply the command line one more time.
-After using an app from the play store, the immersive mode doesn't seem to stick after a restart of the device. So i suggest you use an app called "Granular Immersive Mode(Paid App)" to apply the immersive mode from the phone without using the PC every time there is a change.
-It seems using the PC CMD method to get immersive mode isn't playing well with HTC phones, and you will have to reapply it with every restart of the device.
Good Luck.

Hide statusbar

I for one like the notch, in fact, it bothers me that the notification icons and clock sit there while my browser is active. I'd love to be able to hide the bar when an app other than the launcher is active. Is this possible?
I found this, but it's for the 5t: https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...5t-5-1-0-auto-hide-status-bar-no-root.822354/
Waiting for this too.. For now I did the ADB command to hide the notification bar via immersive mode.. but, it doesn't extend the window to the top fully, just hides the top notif bar completely.
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.status=*

How To Disable Immersive Mode And Keep The Software Buttons Always On?

Hey all,
Does anyone know how to disable immersive mode and keep the software buttons always on? My mother has really shaky hands and performing gestures is not really viable for her so I'd like to just disable immersive mode all together that way she has the software buttons on at all times. I have came across multiple commands to hide the navbar and status bar but, nothing to keep it always enabled. Here is all of the commands that I've came across so far
Change Navigation Bar Color
settings put global navigationbar_color <Android value>
Change Navigation Bar Color
settings put global navigationbar_current_color <Android value>
Hide Status Bar Only
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.status=*
Hide Navigation Bar Only
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=*
Hide Status Bar and Navigation Bar
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
+ Immersive Mode In All Apps Except Certain Apps
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=apps,-"app location",-"another app location"
+ Immersive Mode In All Apps But With Certain Apps Having Status Bar Not Hidden
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=apps,:immersive.status=apps,-"app location",-"second app location"
+ Immersive In All Apps But With Certain Apps Having Navigation Bar Not Hidden
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.status=apps,:immersive.navigation=apps,-"app location",-"second app location"
Put Status Bar and Navigation Bar Back to Normal/Default State
adb shell settings put global policy_control null*
Any and all help is appreciated.
