Bluetooth pain! - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

It seems a perennial problem with this phone is connecting to Bluetooth devices that aren't headsets.
I've had two fitness trackers (Garmin and Fitbit) but both have difficulty syncing through Bluetooth.
The only thing that only sometimes helps, is switching Bluetooth on and off and salt t that is very hot and miss too.
I'm guessing that the the Huawei power management is being too zealous in killing off the Bluetooth processes.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?

[TIP] Improve Audio Quality of Calls or Music Over Bluetooth on the Captivate

I have been having intermittent issues with Bluetooth audio cutting out on my Captivate while I am on a phone call over Bluetooth. I believe the problem stems from Samsung's inability to do anything right and their implementation of Bluetooth 3.0. A new feature of Bluetooth 3.0 is the ability for a Bluetooth connection to transfer data over Wifi if both Bluetooth devices support 3.0 and have compatible Wifi chips. Samsung implemented this poorly, not a real surprise, and now Wifi is causing the Bluetooth data transfers to be spotty causing streaming data, voice calls or audio streaming, to to be adversely affected.
I was able to finally narrow down the problem. I received a phone call yesterday on my cell phone and I picked up the call on my Bluetooth enabled home phone. The call sounded horrible, noise and the other caller was cutting out, but not enough that I couldn't understand the other person, so I continued the call. The person on the other end did not seem to have any idea that the call sounded so badly, so it seemed to be something limited to my end. During the call, I went over to my Captivate and turned off Wifi. Instantly, the call cleared up and the quality was good to excellent.
I use Wifi all of the time especially at home, so I wasn't going to be turning off Wifi all of the time, so I needed a workaround. Using an App called Setting Profiles, I am able to have Wifi automatically turn off anytime I am on a call and then when the call is completed it turns Wifi back on. What's even better is that the app will note the state of Wifi before a call, so if Wifi is already off before a call, it will not turn Wifi on when the call is ended. The Tasker app will allow you to do the same thing, so if you already have Tasker you won't need Setting Profiles.
This tip will probably only work on the Samsung Galaxy S line because these phones use Bluetooth 3.0, where most Android phones use 2.1 or earlier and do not support Bluetooth file transfers over Wifi. I have only experienced it on the Captivate so I can't say if it will work for any other Galaxy S phone.
Since both wi-fi and BT uses the same 2.4Ghz frequency, interference maybe anticipated although new BT hardwares are pretty good at reduce such interferences.
Did you try change your wi-fi router frequency/channel so that it won't interfere with your BT? Try that so that you may not need to turn off wi-fi on the phone at all.
I have had the issue occur in my car while not near any Wifi router. Also, the router was still on when the call quality improved. It's not like the radio waves from the router and three other Wifi devices in my house disappeared around my phone just because I turned off the Wifi on my phone.

Thanks for the tip

Wifi kind of sucks, but BT is great!

Wifi connectivity seems to not recover well when waking the device. In fact, i have to keep it from going to sleep when it's mounted on my dash in the car so i don't lose the wifi link from either my RAZR or MiFi while driving. i have WiFi sleep policy set to never and it still does it.
In regards to Bluetooth it's much better than my original Galaxy Tab, where when i tried to do music via BT to the car's stereo (BT FIPO adapter to 30-pin ipod dock adapter on car's cd changer input), plus connection to an OBDII Bluetooth adapter (Torque app) - it would have frequent stutters.
With this 7 Plus, i can be SIMULTANEOUSLY connected to both BT devices and switch between Spotify, Mortplayer, Navigation, Torque w/ no stuttering or lag. Also nice that now my car's steering wheel controls actually work better going through the BT on the FIPO to the ipod adapter (only track next/last toggle).
I wish Navigon and CoPilot didn't crash/lag so much, though.
Also the Stowaway folding bluetooth keyboard i used to use with my old UMPCs works well with this tablet.
My wifi would disconnect constantly when I was in a different room than the router. I used a wifi analyzer to view the channels and had the router use a channel that wasn't as busy. Works a lot better now. But I had no issues before hand with any other device.
I've turned off the power save due to the Linux kernel bug and dealing with the sleep of death bug. Helps wifi too you might want to try it out.

SW2 + Galaxy S4 + car handsfree + bluethooth = problem

Hi all
I have a problem in my Chrysler Yoyager (town & country). When my smartwatch 2 is connected to my S4 I get disturbance when trying to talk over the cars handsfree. When I turn off the smartwatch the sound becomes normal again. No I am a little bit confused. Is this a problem with bluethooth in the phone, in the car or in the SW. So far I have not figure out what the cause is.
I dont like to turn off the SW in the car. Then I have to look at the phone while I am driving. My wife dont like that.

This problem has been reported in the past also from other users:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2489149
As it generally doesn't occur with BT headsets or other car kits, I suspect that it's related to some protocol incompatibility between the BT stacks.
On the S4 try disabling all unwanted and unused BT profiles between your devices within the BT pairing settings menu.
OK, thanks I missed that. I was able to improve the sound following the discussion in the other thread.

Bluetooth in not a "collision avoidance" protocol like Ethernet. Therefore this interference is quite common between close Bluetooth devices.

ANT+ support wanted

Hi folks
do we have any ANT+ people who would be willing to help me troubleshoot my ANT+ issues on my Xperia Z1?
No-one on the Z1 forum seems interested in ANT+ - which is understandable as it is slightly niche
Sony Xperia Z1 with rooted stock (android 4.3) (and ANT+ radio and ANT+ service) installed.
Garmin soft strap HRM.
I find that when I start ANT+ in an app (e.g. oruxmaps, ipsensor man etc) sometimes it connects to my HRM without any issue, but then crashes later or sometimes it doesn't connect at all.
I also find that if it has connected but then I stop ANT+ in the app and then start again, it never re-connects to my HRM.
A temporary fix in both cases is to stop ANT+ via the app, toggle off bluetooth in phone settings and then start ANT+ again in the app. Works temporarily 100% of the time, but after a minute or two the ANT+ connection drops again.
When I am experiencing the issue connecting to the HRM, if I have toggled on the Developer Option "Show all ANRs", I am getting ANRs from the ANT radio service.
When I am experiencing the issue connecting to the HRM, if I do not stop ANT+ in the app and toggle off bluetooth in phone settings, bluetooth is restarted. I cannot understand why bluetooth is seemingly being activated by ANT+/apps.
I have tested the phone in isolation and in parallel with my PC monitoring application (Golden Cheetah). The PC is rock solid i.e. the PC connection to the HRM is not dropping out when the phone loses the connection to the HRM.
What can I do to troubleshoot this issue?
I already replaced the HRM battery last night, and have gone through multiple times unistalling apps, blowing away app settings etc etc.
thanks

Bluetooth disconnection during calls - new Mazda 3

Hello everyone!
I noticed that during conversations with the car speakerphone, the bluetooth disconnects sporadically, forcing me to use the phone with my hands.
Same problem also found when connecting the phone to the car via cable to use Android Auto.
Any solution other than "Amazon returns"?
Try disabling all power management for starters.
No issues with the new CX-5 radio... As mentioned - check the power management. Theoretically, it could be some RF jamming / noise caused by your appliances or outdoor devices - have you noticed the places where the disconnects had happened?
