Sorry for the noob question, but can't find a better place, and haven't found an answer via Google.
I have an SM-J320VPP, hardware version J320V.03, running Android 6.0.1. I am interested in rooting it, mainly so I can move more stuff to the SD card. But also to gain experience in rooting Android devices; the Easter Bunny may be bringing me a Fire tablet.
First question is, to which Android version could I install if rooted? AFAIK there is no HCL for Android HW vs OS version. For instance, could I install Nougat?
thanks

Greetings. I did a fair share of searching but I end with more questions.
I'll try list them as clear as I can.
First thing to note: I don't have experience with all of the below.
1. I am an avid flash user/developer and would like to develop apps for android. Which apparently is running android 2.1. However for flash / air apps we need android 2.2 at the very least.
My phone (garmin-asus A10) seems not to get any android upgrade anywhere soon.
Q: Is there a rom available for this phone. I read on the web / this site that in asia this phone comes with Android 2.2
2. So if anyone has a link to a downloadable rom, is there any link or tutorial to install this on my phone?
Sorry if this has been asked before. Just trying to get some answers.
Thanks
Hi there, I got a ViewSonic VSD220 Android "smart display", and it's running Android 4.0.4. This is my first Android, and I'm not sure how OS updates work. There are some instructions on rooting this device, but it's not clear to me how one goes about upgrading the version of Android is running on there -- or if it's even possible! I've been Googling around, but not coming up with any answers.

Hi guys,
I've got rooted SGS III Neo and I've installed custom ROM - newest android 5.0 lollipop.
I'm just curious if there's any chance for installing the custom IOS ROM.
I wanna install this, but I don't know where to search, and how to do this.
Maybe you can help me.
Thanks
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Unfortunately such a thing doesn't exist, porting iOS across to an Android device is an extremely difficult task (read: virtually impossible) so most developers wouldn't be bothered with it. Plus, most people buy Android devices because they prefer the Android OS.
Thread closed, thanks.
The first thing I do whenever I get a new device is root it and try out all the custom roms it has to offer. With my shield its been different because I don't want to lose controller support or the shield hub because I stream games through geoforce daily. I was hoping someone could recommend a rom that has those features if one exists yet for this tablet? Also I am on android 6.0 and would like to keep it that way if possible? I would love some advice on this from Some more experienced shield owners. I've only had mine for about a week. Either way I love my shield and wouldn't trade it for anything thanks for your help!
Root?
Hey maybe someone could also let me know what root method would be the best now that 6.0 is installed on my k1? Would the toolkit still be the easiest method?
No help?
Any advice?
as of now, very few custom roms have any NVIDIA support (controller or otherwise) and the couple that do aren't reliable.
As for root, it is all over this section of the forum what you need to do to root 6.0 stock on your shield... I would say to use search, but that isn't even really needed since it is in plain view in the general section on the front page.
I read the root guides, but all of them said they were for lollipop or below am I missing one?

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this platform and to be honest a bit overwhelmed. Apologize if this thread is in the wrong section.
I should also mention that I'm not too familiar with technical points.
I own an old Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (P5110) which claims its Android version 4.2.2 is still the most recent one for this device.
So I'm looking for a way to update to a newer versuon, at least Android 6.
My first question is which Android version you suggest?
Second one, how exactly do I do this (is there a step by step tutorial)?
Third one what are the risks? I read something about data loss and completely broken devices?
Thank you in advance.

Mate, I'm on the same boat. Same tablet, also overwhelmed The only response to your post points to some custom ROM page but the instructions are not detailed. I thought I had to throw my tablet but it seems like it still has some life to breath if I can get it a newer ROM (many apps are not supported anymore with Android 4.2).
I think the first thing to do is root the device but where to start? I'd prefer using linux with adb, etc.
There is a lot of stuff here. Is there anyone that has taken the time to write a detailed step by step guide somewhere?
BTW, my intention is not only to revive the device but to ditch all Google crap apps. In an ideal world, I would have installed a ROM from /e/ Foundation, but they do not support the device so I guess my next best bet is some custom ROM that uses LineageOS?
Hi,
First you need to root your device and install TWRP recovery:
More info here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...final-root-single-step-twrp-recovery-t3404779
It's an old thread but you'll get the idea.
See this one as well:
https://www.getdroidtips.com/twrp-recovery-samsung-galaxy-tab-2/
You'll need to find the correct version for your model otherwise you'll and up with a nice paperweight.
After this, you'll be able to back up your current ROM and install new ones. Unfortunately, I have a different model of Tab 2 that has no available custom ROM's so I can't say which ROM is better than other. I would read more in the link provided for slim roms.
To get rid of the installed bloatware and even Google apps I used SD Maid. See my thread below with what's left on my tablet (Disclaimer: it's a barebone setup and not all things work so I don't advise going that deep unless you're willing to take the risk of having a bricked tablet. You were warned!):

Complete Guide to Root and Update Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
