Unable to Flash Previous modem - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A couple months ago I updated my S6 SM-G920T to the latest modem (FRA3) for Nougat, now after alot of testing and Logcats, it looks like this recent modem from Jan. 2018 is causing services issues in Oreo roms on my device, I tried flashing back to a previous modem but everytime I do I get an unknown baseband and the only way to fix it is to reflash the FRA3 modem!
Is downgrading a modem impossible once you upgrade? Because my Bootloader is still on an earlier firmware QH3 I believe, and that is the modem I was trying to flash.
Also, could it also be because when I try to flash the new modem I am on a S8 Port ROM?

Convert G920F to G920I

I asked the other day about using the G920I modem on my G920F as to improve the poor reception on my phone. The next question I hope anyone can answer is would just converting the whole phone to a G920I using stock rom. The hardware in each phone is exactly the same especially the modem which is a samsung shannon. The only difference is the couple of different basebands but these are present in both varients of the modem just software locked. I cant see any reason as to why I could not do this but would like to hear if you have a take on this. Thanks. I have found threads with other people that seem to have managed it but everytime I flash the stock G920I rom it fails. Just wondering what Im missing.

G920I Firmwares SUCKS, i am stuck in 5.1.1 and its a horrible experience, i miss 5.0.2 :crying:
Im on G920F 5.1.1 custom rom and its excellent. I need the modem from the G920i as it addressed the poor reception issue. No such modem has been released yet for the G920F hence I want to change. Once on G920I i will install a custom rom anyway so all will be good.

Have you tried to flash the 920I modem? I think it may be possible to do so as they have the same baseband chip.
But I am not sure whether we can get back the original modem if the flashing failed. I used to have a Nexus 4. Even when I flashed a wrong radio, I can always get back by flashing the right one. It is just a partition with constant data on the device. But I don't know whether samsung is the same.
Flashing a complete stock rom maybe impossible. I think Odin checks the model name, and prevent the flashing if they don't match (Just guess).

Yeah I tried flashing the modem only but when odit checks the PIT it fails straight away. Did try flashing the full stock package but again no joy. Its annoying as people with G920i dont seem to be suffering the issues that the G920F has with poor cell signal. Its definately a phone issue as I am on my third one lol. Have flashed the brand new modem package that was released a couple of days ago but has mad no difference at all surprise surprise. I think your correct though as odin must check the model number before flashing. Hopefully a dev could come up with a way to bypass the check as like you say the modems and hardware are identical on both models. The only difference is a couple of basebands which from my research are only software locked anyway.
You cannot flash G920I modem to a G920F and vice-versa. They are not compatible.

Signal loss with a Moto G 4G XT1039

Hi everyone,
First, thanks everyone for all the information I have found in this forum for the past few weeks.
Now my problem : I have a Moto G 4G XT1039 that keep losing signal randomly. The only way to get my signal back to call or receive sms seems to be a reboot of the phone.
I don't remember exactly when it started but I think it was around June. Until a month ago I never tried to root or flash my phone. I just used the official updates from Motorola. I live in France and the phone is perfect for me except this problem.
I read here and there that a lot of people seems to have the issue but I'm surprised nobody seems really pissed of.
I downgraded to 4.4.4 to see if it would solve my problem but it did not. I read that the signal loss could be caused by Android 4.4.2 so should I downgrade further ?
This weekend I flashed a nightly from CM 13, the problem is still here.
What can I do ? The problem seems to be related to the radio firmware, can I downgrade the radio firmware and keep a recent android or CM13 ?
For information my baseband version is m8926_309101.02.03.14r.
I'm not sure I post my problem in the good forum but it could help other people in my situation.
If someone has an idea....
Thanks
Firstly try the Stock ROM and Radio Firmware available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/4g-development/rom-stock-motorola-4g-lollipop-rom-t3142816 - follow flashing instructions to the letter - after this you can move on to CM13 if desired.
Well I have already done that, after I tried the 4.4.4 version.
I was on 5.1 then I downgraded to 4.4.4 then got back to 5.1 then tried CM 13.

Did you fastboot flash the Radio Firmware from that thread? Commands are in FAQ.
Yes I did. I event tried to flash the 5.1 radio firmware while still having the 4.4.4 android.
The baseband version I gave in my opening post is the last one for the EU region I believe.
Other Solutions to try:
1) Change SIM card / get a new SIM
2) Fastboot flash the Stock Factory Firmware Image for your phone - http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...falcon-factory-firmware-t3110795/post64203816
Thanks, I was going to order a new sim card to try this solution.
I already flashed the latest stock firmware last week but i will try again from scratch to be sure.
Provide fastboot logs (copy and paste command prompt) when flashing the firmware image. Fastboot may not provide errors, "okay" can mean total failure.
Hi,
Just to say that there is apparently no more signal loss with the CM13 nightly from 12/11. I hope it will last.
In the end I didn't flash stock firmware.
Thanks again for your suggestions, I will come back if the problem is back.

Can I fix my sound problem/ bug on my s7 when I flash a custom Rom?

Hello,
For some days I had a thread where my audio suddenly cut off or some weird noises appeared.
https://youtu.be/a1TaBH11bTI
What I´ve seen the problem is not uncommon and it is software related. So I wanted to ask you about your experience, could you fix the problem by flashing a custom Rom?

It is different because I think it software related and I want to know if it is possible to fix it throught different Roms.
My prior thread was different I didn´t know why it happend.
No, it's exactly the same, with the exact same problem and exact same video

So what? Making multiple threads isn't going to fix it, make 1 thread and wait for an answer
Happens to me whenever my phones swaps from WiFi to LTE or vice versa. Otherwise if it is a software issue it's most likely a bootloader/modem mismatch. Have you been jumping between 6.x and 7.x Android? Because if you use a 6.x bootloader/modem with a 7.x android or the other way around, it will break vibration and other aspects of the software.

No, I stayed on android 6 never updated or downgraded but what do you mean with modem? or bootloader/modem. Maybe I should add that I rooted the phone to gain twrp and root. And vibration and other stuff works well besides this sound problem
There are 4 firmware components, the OS/ROM, the bootloader, the modem, and the carrier config. When you change the OS/ROM, you should be changing the rest to match.
If you've stayed on android 6 you should be okay, however it's not a bad idea to go to updato.com, download the most recent 6.0.1 stock firmware for your country/carrier and flash the bootloader (BL) and modem (CP) files. There's a guide on updato.com showing the step by step process, just make sure you don't do a full flash. Only the bootloader and modem.
Since the bootloader is essentially the backbone of your phone, it's always beneficial to have it up to date with your version of android (Don't use a 7.x bootloader on 6.x). Modem updates also help with your phones signal and data performance.
You should find most ROM guides say always update the bootloader and modem before installing the ROM.

And that is how you fix your problem? Update the bootloader and modem? But after the flash I can still keep twrp or do I need to do the process anew?

So thats the version with the correct AP, CP and CSC when I flash the modem and bootloader everything should be fine I hope.
Yea my problems were fixed doing this, and if you only flash BL and CP you won't lose any data or TWRP.
I can't guarantee it will fix it, but it's a good start.

Wrong modem (CP) version?

Hi guys,
it's been a few weeks that I'm struggling to understand why I'm not getting software updates.
My phone is stock, never rooted nor flashed. It's been with this software since when I bought it.
My CSC is VDI and I was noticing that potentially the modem version on my phone (CP) is wrong.
Here's my details:
AP: G930FXXU1DQEI
CSC: G930FVFG1DQE3
CP: G930FXXU1BPJJ
Model: SM-G930F
I was trying to figure out why I'm not getting updates and from what I can see here: http://fota-cloud-dn.ospserver.net/firmware/VDI/SM-G930F/version.xml I should have a different CP version in order to get the update (G930FXXU1DQD7) which also seems in line with what this firmware page has: https://samsung-firmware.org/download/Galaxy__S7__/n494/VDI/G930FXXU1DQEI/G930FVFG1DQE3/
Now, a couple of questions.
- Any idea of the why? Could it be just a mistake in the production of the device?
- Is my hypothesis correct that I'm not receiving updates because of this?
- Would it be safe to only flash the CP part with ODIN and let the device receive the OTA normally?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
I've not heard of a modem stopping updates, but it's not an area I'm fully familiar with.
Flashing modems with Odin is probably the most harmless flash you can do as long as it's for the same android version (e.g. don't flash a nougat modem on a marshmallow device)
You could also try flashing the latest home_csc, and bootloader (BL) if you really wanted to. Both of those are pretty trivial to flash too. If you do flash csc just make sure it's home_csc, and regular csc wipes your data.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I ended up flashing CP only for the firmware I was at and I straight away got the update notification and the subsequent security patches up to December 2017 ( was stuck at may ). I'm at the latest firmware for my CSC now.

Galaxy s7 stuck at certain build

I flashed in my galaxy s7 G930F
Alexndr.G930FXXUS3ERI1
Then tried to install another build of this rom
My sim card won't work like it's not even inserted
G930FXXU2ERGE that's the other build i tried to install
And tried an s8 rom can't remember its name and same issue
Even when i tried to flash the stock AUT & UK builds with odin and it fails and gives my system rev. check fail device:1, binary:0
Or system rev. check fail device:1, binary:2
Unless it's the build as the one i mentioned G930FXXUS3ERI1
My phone is exynos and suppose to flash any rom with problems before
Can anyone plz tell me what's is going on
G930FXXUS3ERI1 is higher version of G930FXXS3ERHD and samsung is locked the bootloader in G930FXXS3ERHD Version. So you cant downgrade from G930FXXUS3ERI1 and G930FXXS3ERHD to G930FXXU2ERGE. This problem is happen with me and my phone is under warranty (Knox 0x000) and service center will change the motherboard. you have no option to downgrade. Phone will accept only G930FXXUS3ERI1 version, so wait for next official update version of your country. When a similar or higher version come in your country you can able to flash.
I post on xda and i found one solution for root user. See here
Sorry for bad English.
My phone originally from Switzerland so it's AUT firmwares
And i always tried many custom roms with other countries and it worked just fine
I was on G930FXXU2ERGE
After trying this build G930FXXUS3ERI1 it got stuck on it
So u telling me that build is stuck on the motherboard
And i can't downgrade to nougat roms or other oreo builds but the one I'm on?! ?

Once you flash a ROM with a "3" bootloader, you can no longer revert to one with a "2" (or lower). Since you flashed 3ERI1, you can't revert to 2ERGE. Since the "3" bootloader was just released, there really isn't much to roll back to (there is currently a choice between 3ERI1 and 3ERH*).
Having said that, the Alexndr ROM is quite nice and virtually stock (I use it). And with the 3ERI1 build, Samsung appears to have overcome the very annoying random reboot problem that has plagued its recent ROMs.
Yes i been using it too
And that's my current rom nw also same build as yours
But idk why the complication with the bootloader thing with the firmwares
They should have left it like it was
With no restrictions
