Mine is working. I can tell cause if I move the cord on the headphones its not a stream its an actual FM antenna

Radio works only for Snapdragon variants?
I think Exynos chip variants cannot support fm radio.

Incorrect, my SM-G965F Exynos works fine!
Edit: I'm an idiot, I was streaming!

Which one you have installed?

I could be wrong but I just installed a "FM Radio" App and it's using Internet radio not not an FM reciever, as far as I know recent Galaxy devices haven't had a receiver for quite a few years if ever and older devices that did have an FM radio receiver required the earphones to be plugged in to act as an antenna
That's my understanding, I am prepared to be corrected though

It's possible to make it work if there is a connection between chip and headphone jack. (For antenna)
I talked to the developer of SPIRIT FM and he told me this
Code:
Thanks for the log.
It looks like it has a Qualcomm FM/BT/WiFi combo chip.
But the kernel does not have the needed Qualcomm "IRIS" V4L FM driver at /dev/radio0.
Disabling the kernel driver is pretty unusual; even Google Nexus devices don't do that, despite that their FM antenna pins are hardware disabled.
A kernel that supports the FM V4L driver is needed to test any further.
Let's see
The easiest thing I have found which I listen to local channels is I-heart radio. I've had many phones in the past that had FM but never used it because I get what I want from I-heart radio and I use Bluetooth headset with mine.

I-Heart Radio is good but it uses bandwidth not all local radio stations are available.
Interesting, I'd love to see if having this included in a custom kernel will make an FM tuner app work..
I just asked AK if he can have a look someday http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54966825&postcount=998

not sure how that's used. OPO is a BT 4.1 device, so i'm not sure that they've identified the correct part.

Well if you can zoom in the picture and look on chip itself it clearly shows as WCN3680. And as per BT 4.1 its just a patch it can applied to most or all 4.0 devices.
I've asked Franco to look into it as well here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/orig-development/kernel-franco-kernel-r1-t2800871

This is a topic where the spirit FM dev helps with enabling FM on the One.

I'd love to try this, but I do not know that much about building my own kernel. Anyone else that is willing to try this or can at least point me in the right direction?
Why almost all the customize ROMs do not include FM radio function?
FM radio is not important, but useful and happy with that.
Maybe this will help : https://android.googlesource.com/ke...4-kitkat-mr1/drivers/media/radio/radio-iris.c

I would like to receive fm radio too!
Apparently the Snapdragon has FM radio functionality built-in out of the box.
How do we enable it?
Have you tried the root app Spirit2? I've got it working on a Z3C 6.0.1. I haven't seen many reports on later Sony devices. It's likely not to work though if something's changed as it's no longer under development and the creator passed away.
Sent from my Xperia Z3 Compact using XDA Labs
Did Sony ground the pins or is the hardware fully functional?
I tried NextRadio but it doesn't support Sony devices...
I believe that the premium doesn't have fm tuner.
At least my G8142 doesn't. I have also a Z3v which does have fm tuner but the "awesome" verizon ( to do not say a bad word) has blocked it, but we can see it on the service menu and test it as well.
Just dial
*#*#SERVICE#*#*
And go to the service test menu and look if you have it. (I bet no because before I had bought mine I researched it and at least for the 8142 wasn't available but as far as I remember the 8141 was also unavailable)
Cheers
Sux. FM radio is free and no data usage

Is it possible to have real live FM radio?

Hi there!
I have a rooted Galaxy S6, model SM-G920W8 and after a few research I found that there's not a lot of applications for real live FM .
Next Radio doesn't support my model.
And for Spirit radio, I have this message : ERROR: Tuner API did not start or stop. This device may need a kernel with a working FM driver.
So, I' m willing to do what it takes to have it even if I needs to downgrade to another rom that contains live FM radio.
Thanks in advance.

What do you mean?
If you're talking about unlocking the FM chip inside , I've read that some phones doesn't have one and elsewhere I've read that they all have it and they block it when shipping from China.
In fact I beleive that all chinese version of every phone have the FM chip unlocked.
Anyways, I'm gonna search until I have the ultimate proof that it can't work.

Can I activated the radio fm chip on the Oneplus 6 ?

Hello,
I would know if is it possible to activated the radio fm chip of the Qualcomm snapdragon 845 on the Oneplus 6 smartphone ?

Just because it's on the list doesn't mean it's even for the OP6..

If the chip is not activated then FM radio does not work..

You would have to integrate it into the firmware, but they dont advertise it as a feature so I doubt that will happen.

I remember reading articles like Samsung enables FM radio after the update and stuff. Can't OnePlus do that? Also, what's the harm with keeping an extra FM radio app? Does it drain the battery in the background? Why are more companies removing it?

Yes the Snapdragon 845 does indeed have an FM chip. If you don't believe it go to Google and type Snapdragon 845 FM radio. Also it has to be turned on Via firmware on OnePlus side
Using FM always sucks anyway, because you have to have headphones plugged in to get reception.

I think FM radio is getting obsolete coz of all the music streaming apps and faster internet so most ppl don't use FM anymore

Then why are you replying to this thread anyway? If you don't use a feature, then don't use a feature. Why does it matter to you that someone else wants to use a feature that you don't? Think about a feature that you like and use and there is probably someone else that doesn't like or care about that feature at all. If the hardware supports it and the software enables it for everyone, you just won't use it, but it can make a lot of people who do use it much happier.
As for why FM is still useful for some people. Not everyone has unlimited data or consistent wifi connections everywhere they go. There are also times where even if you had unlimited data and wifi, there's no connection, or servers are overloaded, such as a natural disaster (earthquake, hurricane, etc) where you could still listen in on FM if your phone had the hardware and software to do so and you have a headphone cable to connect as an antenna.

Radio on S9+

So there have been posts on Reddit saying that these phones have Radio capabilities and can be used with this app -
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nextradioapp.nextradio
Now this app is not available in my country (India) and when I tried to side load it, it says not available in your country and quit. I have not been able to find a alternative app that uses the FM as a source for Radio and not the internet.
If anyone has a way to make it work in my country or another app which works, it would be appreciated.
Thank you.
It doesn't work
It says it requires headphones to act as an antenna.
Sounds like bs to me.

I haven't tried the S9+ yet, the snapdragon S8+ did work and did use the headphones as an antenna.
Can't comment about other countries and if they have the capability.. I can try mine out when I get home tonight.
You people are not getting the problem. The app quits as soon as it is opened. It dose not get to the stage for scanning FM radio stations where the earphones are required.
What model phone do you have?

What I don't understand is that you need an app called "Raido Now" along with headphones to be used as the antenna. I might be missing something here but how is it any different then the 100 other radio apps:laugh:. Call me crazy but I think that is how it's "enabled" lol.

All cell phones with a functioning FM tuner chip require the headphone cord to act as an antenna. Without this, you'd just get static.
If the FM chip is actually disabled (which is the case on a lot of phones), FM Radio apps that access terrestrial FM stations won't even work because they can't communicate with the FM chip to even tune into a frequency.
As such, most apps you'd find on Google Play are designed to receive Internet streams of radio stations (Tunein Radio, for instance). Nextradio CAN do that as well, but it also has the capability of tuning in analog FM stations on supported handsets.
