How important are official kernel sources to making a stable ROM? - General Questions and Answers

I've been having considerable debate with myself over whether I should stay on my 99% stable LineageOS 14.1 ROM or go to 15.1. For my device (Moto G5 Plus), there has not yet been an official Oreo update, so official Oreo kernel sources have not yet been released.
Anyway, to the point: how important are these sources in making a custom ROM? Thanks to any reply, especially developers.

CM 14.1

Why haven't we seen an official CM 14.1 for hammerhead. CM 14.1 official has been released for hammerheadcaf but not regular Hammerhead. I am tired of waiting for an official release, they are dragging their feet like Google did with the original Nougat release. We have seen some unofficial development, but until official development is released network an custom kernel support isn't useful. Every unofficial CM 14.1 release hasn't supported my sim card and a custom kernel with USB fast charge.
Keep patient bro. It'll be released soon (Hope So).

They keep releasing nightlies of CM 13, they need to move on already. Hopefully the CM theme engine is fixed by then also.

You have to be more patient, you are just simply to inpatient.
CM14.1 is in its early develop stage, things have to settle, the nightly's for the regular version will come when it's time.

Which custom ROMs are updated regularly with the latest security patch?

This thread could also be used to announce security or major updates in ROMs
In terms of how fast the updates are released, LineageOS should receive the top spot as it is updated every week without fail. But other ROMs like AOSP EX are also updated but they are mostly monthly updates, that is whenever a new security patch is released.
For osprey, list of all active ROM which are updated Almost
Daily: AICP, Mokee, AOKP
Weekly & Bi-Weekly: LineageOS, AOSP-CAF, XPerience, CypherOS, ViperOS
Monthly & Bi-Monthly: AOSPExtended

All is said. :good:

what is the most basic nougat 7.1 rom?

like aosp but updated cause the one we have has no updates
You did not tell us if you have Osprey or Merlin phone. If you have an Osprey, like me:
I guess the ported stock Nougat ROM will be the most basic. Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/20.../rom-stock-rom-6-0-1-optimized-t3609991/page1
Check this thread for further ROM suggestions for Osprey:

Or just search through the Original Android Development forum for all different G3 variants:

Lineage OS is also a great Nougat rom. Almost AOSP, no heavy customization and great stability
If you do go for more customizations AOSP Extended is great
Pure Nexus ROM: very stable (my daily driver and never found any issue), smooth and very simple and light ROM ?
LineageOS or aosp-caf, I’d say
I agree with @nubry Purenexus is my favorite for a close to AOSP rom.

Release LOS 15.1?

hello,
LOS 15.1 is released, is there any information, when the One will get the version official?
thanks
If you mean CyanoGenOS 15.1, released by CyanogenInc, the answer is pretty clear: NEVER. COS is updated to Android 6.0.1, that's it. CyanogenInc doesn't work on OS anymore, Oneplus is never going to release an Oxygen OS build for OPO, so if you want install LOS or others custom ROM, but do not expect anything official at all.

Hi,
i mean lineageos , the offical 15.1 was released at 26 february.
At the moment the lattest official build is 14.1 but for the oneplus 3 and 5 lineage released an official 15.1.
I know that lineage is no "official" release.
My question is when will there an official release for the one?
I want no custom build.
Thanks
So you better check the title of the thread you started, becouse you wrote COS! Anyway, we have to still wait for an official release of LOS and any custom ROM based on it, as there are few problems with camera (not working) and other things not working, so they plan to solve them first and then release. The other roms using Android 8.1 use Sultan Blobs or other to make camera works etc, but it is not the same. You just have to wait.
Feel free to testdrive my LOS build from the official sources at https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/rom-lineageos-15-1-unofficial-t3758211

Rom 8.X.X ?

Any project on oreo in progress for the s2 plus model?
hope so...
I'm already up-streaming kernel to lineage 15.0 but will take sometime since they are something like 3000+ commits by starting from stock branch but I'm on the good road
Edit: I can't promise that will boot because 7.1 isn't same as 8.x due to treble stuff need a lot of patches.
