Google Pay with unlocked bootloader - General Questions and Answers

Hello there,
I am wanting to use Google pay with my S8 plus Exynos variant, but I have rooted my device before and now I have updated to Android 8.0 Oreo. I have downloaded the updated through SamMobile and now I get the message: Google Pay can't be used on this device. This may be because your device is rooted, has an unlocked bootloader or is running a custom ROM. As a result, Google can't confirm that your device meets Google pay's security standards. I've always loved Google Pay, so I've been doing a lot of research to try to figure this out, but so far I've come up empty. Does anyone know how to get a locked bootloader or can someone help guide me through the rooting process so I can use Google Pay again as it seemed to work when my phone was rooted on 7.1 nougat?

A little late here but If the device was rooted before then you unlocked the bootloader I assume which Google Pay needs to be locked to meet the security measures you mentioned. Re-lock bootloader and go back to stock firmware through Odin to gain Google Pay back.

[Q] New to the Android world, i have afew questions for your

I'm totally new to the Android world and i spent many hours to read this forum to learn as much as possible about my device and what i can do with it. But now, i need your help on a few things.
KitKat vs Lollipop, does it make sense to upgrade to Lollipop now or should i wait? Is there any major know bugs?
Since that i only have a 8gb device, i would like to clean the apps as much as possible. There's many apps that i don't need but they can't be uninstalled. For example, all the Motorola apps (is there something that we really need from them?), a few google apps like Google+, Google Play Films, Hangouts, etc that i will never use.
I want a stable ROM that i don't need to patch every day to solves problems. When i read about CM12 for Moto G, i see people that have problems here and there and wait for the next daily build to give it a try. I don't want to play that game!
If i install a custom rom, i guest that future updates will not come from Motorola. How the updates work afterward?
It's ok if i must have my device rooted
I have read about stock lollipop optimized version by lost101 but it don't think that the versions currently available will work for me. I'm in Canada and the versions that i see is Brazil or Asia.
thank you for you help!
You have the xt1032? Is there any warranty left? If there is no warranty, I recommend unlocking the bootloader before doing anything. It is easier to restore a bricked phone if you have an unlocked bootloader.
If you intend to stay on stock, you need some of the Motorola apps in order to install OTA updates.
Well what I will say is. I'm in the uk using lost101s BR optimized and I'm very pleased with it.

The phone is new but i don't care about the warranty. I've read that i can unlock the bootloader with the Motorola tutorial. I must be honest, i'm a little bit lost. I don't fully understand the difference between "unlocking bootloader" and "phone rooted"!
and yes the model i have is XT1032

You must unlock boot loader first then flash a custom recovery (manually or there is a tool in the development section) then rooting next.
Unlocking the bootloader allows you to install non-Motorola software. With a locked bootloader, the only software that can be loaded on your phone would have to be digitally signed by Motorola.
Rooting gives you administrative access to the system files.
You may not need an unlocked bootloader to get root and you do not need root to unlock a bootloader.
Start here to get the bootloader unlock code: https://accounts.motorola.com/ssoau...ct/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b
I tried to install TWRP (any version available) but it take like 1 minutes to show the home screen and im not able to "swipe to unlock". So i have installed Philz recovery and then installed lost101 Retail Brazil 5.0.2 Stock ROM (Optimized) v1.1a. I'm playing with it right now and so far so good.

Update

I have a google pixel xl. I am currently on 7.0 but just received notification that i have a 7.1.1 update waiting for me. I have rooted my phone's in the past but have not rooted or unlocked bootloader this time. Is it my understanding that once this update is received that it is not possible to unlock the bootloader and/or root? I would like to keep the rooting option open but at this time would like to stay on stock as i like having timely updates ota. The last phone/ROM i used, the developer kinda laxed on updates, plus additional issues that were not present on factory installed rom.

As long as you have a Pixel bought from Google and not Verizon you are fine to take the update. The Verizon variant ships with a locked bootloader that can't be unlocked without the intervention of dePixel8 on 7.1 firmware. The Google variety will always have the option to unlock bootloader / root.
You are on 7.1, not 7.0... the phone shipped at 7.1.

As I understand, the google phone should have no issues getting the bootloader unlocked. The verizon one cannot be unlocked from 7.1.1 (at least so far).
Beyond that, rooting can be done in 7.1 or 7.1.1.
I would suggest unlocking the bootloader and keeping it that way if you want to change anything.
(My suggestions are based on Google Pixel, and NOT the XL). I just noticed, but you're posting on the pixel forums btw.

Question about factory resetting Google Pixels regarding FRP

Hey, I have a OnePlus 3 so I have messed around a lot with my phone, today I saw a Google Pixel at sale for a pretty low price but the guy selling it says that the phone has a Google account on it from the previous owner but it doesn't have a security pattern pin or password to get into the phone, it just has swipe to unlock. He says he can't use the play store but he has downloaded apks directly and can use the phone with some limitations. My question is, I use an OnePlus 3 and in that situation I could unlock my bootloader and flash a different ROM and fully unlock it. Is that not possible on the Pixel? I can't just go into the developer settings, enable oem unlocking, boot into fastboot and unlock the bootloader and flash a different rom or factory reset it without triggering FRP? How does that work? Given the circumstances is there any way to factory reset or flash a different rom on that pixel without issues? Thanks!
Hello, the Verizon version of the Pixel has a locked bootloader and can NOT be unlocked, some people have bought a Verizon version but were lucky to get it with 7.1 which is the only version that can have the bootloader unlocked. If the Pixel is the unlocked version (Google Store) or Verizon version, it can be unlocked using different methods until it reaches the December 5th Security Patch, at that point there is only one method right now to bypass the frp for the December 5th patch - current patch.
If I understand correctly, the phone already has frp, you need to find out what version the pixel is and what security patch does it have.
The seller might of used dirty-c0ws method to install a home launcher and other apps but none of the google apps work and you can't add your google account to it until you completely remove frp.

It hasn't been reset yet, it's on 7.1.1 so I believe the security patch on it is later than December. I can't access developer options, enable oem unlocking and proceed with the steps to flash a custom ROM?
It's in May Security patch, but the phone isn't yet locked, the guy selling it has access to the phone, he just can't remove the Google account. Is there no way to enable OEM unlocking, open the bootloader, flash twrp and a different ROM? Does any of these steps require the Google account password? The device doesn't seem to have any pattern pin or password, just swipe up to unlock.
Your phone is in FRP state. You can use the phone with the above patch, just you can't get the Google service on it.

That's why it's such a low price. It's a bogus deal and you should just move on. Could be a lost or stolen device in which case one day it will be blacklisted and you are out of luck. Pay the extra money and buy a legit device.

Will unrooting break the unlock on my Samsung J7 Pro?

I got my Samsung J7 Pro 2017 (SM-J730F) unlocked at a local store recently, and I noticed that when the phone was returned to me, it was not only unlocked but rooted as well. The SuperSU app was also installed. Because of the root, certain apps and features do not work on the phone any longer (Snapchat, Pokemon Go, and S Health, to name a few). There is a permanent unroot option in SuperSU and I really want to unroot so that I can use them again, but is it safe for me to unroot? Will my phone retain its unlocked state or will it go back to being locked?
Here's some more info about my phone that may help:
It was bought in another country and sent to mine, and a SIM from my country triggered the lock.
The phone worked normally (except for the fact that it couldn't use the SIM) before I had it unlocked.
My phone needed a code to be unlocked, but I'm not sure if the technician at the store used a code, or if he unlocked it through another method.
I used the phone already before getting it unlocked, but when it was returned to me, it had been factory reset.
As far as I know, no other apps/tweaks had been installed aside from SuperSU.
Thank you!

[G955FD Exynos] Need Help with Re-locking Bootloader :foldedhands:

So I sold my s8+ g955fd seexynos to this guy for a really good price.
My s8+ was rooted with magisk and bootloader was unlocked.
But this guys wants it unrooted and wants the bootloader to be locked so that he can have the ota updates working. And if I fail to do so (which I am at the moment), I would have to return the money (which I dont want to).
I tried flashing stock rom (latest from Sammobile) from the scratch with Odin but still when I check with Intercept X app, it says bootloader unlocked. and I checked in developer options too, the oem unlock is greyed out and set to off and says "bootloader is already unlocked".
Could someone please guide me with working steps please? I am good with flashing and stuff.
I tried searching the s8+ forum but couldn't find anything helpful.
Need urgent help. :foldedhands:
Edit 1: now the OEM unlock is gone from developers options after flashing magisk again :scared:
Edit 2: After uninstalling magisk from magisk manager app
, phone went to bootloop. So I flashed stock rom "bl,ap,cp,csc" with odin again and the greyed out oem unlock is back with status "bootloader is already unlocked"
Any hint guys?
Just a hint would be enough!
Its a one way process from what I understand.
Anybody will want it locked because without it locked you cant use Knox or any of the payment apps that depend on Knox.
I could be wrong but this is what I feel.
