Originally, I put together these app packs to give extra options to those who use my Universal themes. However since these can be used on their own and are not theme dependent, I figured I would give then their own thread for all of you to enjoy
These theme packs use the VRTheme package to completely alter some of the most commonly modded apps. This will not add apps but simply alter apps that you currently have on your device.
Whiteout contains stock apps exactly as they would appear from the market (except Play Music which had been turned white)
Blackout contains inverted apps by B-boy, Team Blackout and the bear j koss
Xparent contains apps turned transparent by B-boy and Team Blackout
Each pack contains it's version of:
AOSP Email
AOSP Messaging
Dropbox
Flipboard (Xparent uses Inverted version)
Gmail
Google Maps (Xparent uses Inverted version)
Google Play Services (Xparent uses Inverted version)
Google Play Store
Google Plus
Google Talk (Xparent uses Inverted version)
Touchwiz Music Player
In order for the packs to work the apps must be located in your system/app folder and the names must match. I insured a couple versions of each using commonly used names by Rom devs but pleat check beforehand.
Capitalization is important as well
Download your choice
Reboot into recovery
Mount System
Wipe Cache and Dalvik
Install App Pack
Be Patient
Reboot and Enjoy
Names need to match the below
Dropbox.apk
Flipboard.apk
Email.apk
Gmail.apk
Gmail2.apk
GMSCore.apk
GMS_Maps.apk
GoogleMusic.apk
GooglePlus.apk
Maps.apk
Music2.apk
MusicPlayer.apk
Mms.apk
Phonesky.apk
PlusOne.apk
Talk.apk
Talk2.apk
Enjoy!

OK... Not sure what the issue is... Just clear data for Google now and uninstall via TiBU if the voice search is not working for you... I'm gonna pull the packs and take out Google now till I figure out the issue... Sorry for the trouble
App packs are back up minus Google now

Just saw your update... Make sure the names in your system app match one of the names in the op before flashing... Also double check the apps that didn't theme by going into settings/applications.... If you select one and it says Uninstall updates then you need to do that in order to see the themed versions... All the apps in the pack should be up to date so you should be good
BTW these apps need to be in the system/app folder to get themed...

hey, can't have everybody's stuff in one. for all i know you could've asked and he said no. lol didn't know if you had seen any of his stuff. just tossing his name up here for other options. it's great that we have so many great devs with awesome work to choose from.
Thank you very much! It is always great to have droiders like my work. I like blue wayyyy to much to leave anything just black and white lol,,,but that may not appeal to the masses. I always love to see more themers active here, it helps keep the GS3 alive, keep it comin!

Delete. Read op too quick and my answer was right there
Hoping to have an update out tomorrow with updated Google plus, transparent aosp and transparent stock music player
1) Only thing that seemed to stick after the twrp flash was mms - which I personally like the most out of the themed mms's I've used - and gtalk. And I didn't have have gtalk installed before this. Did I need to delete the apps that this pack would be replacing before flashing in recovery??
2) Also, I avoid anything but face to face communication with my friends who have iphones and are so brilliant with their ability to jailbreak - done it for people before but just look at security setting on any android and check 'Unknown Sources' and boom....'jailbroken', why don't you try to unlock the bootloader or port HTC beats to any device or REALLY overclock a device........but I digress - when I do have to actually msg these people they love to do group msg's! Does this messenger have the same problem as most AOSP messenger with viewing cross platform group messagers??

This doesn't replace any apps that you don't already have and it doesn't add any new ones. You probably have other versions of the apps in your data/app folder. Even if the newer version is in your system/app, the phone will read the one from the data/app folder because it this it is gonna be newer...
For the apps that didn't appear to theme, you should go into settings/applications and find those apps... most likely it will have the option to uninstall updates... After you do that, the themed versions will appear...
If it only says Uninstall then that means the apps aren't on the system and that's why they didn't get themed
As for MMS.... yes any bugs that other aosp MMS may have, this will probably have them as well... this uses the aosp by sparkerjc which is also used in beans rom and I think MOAR Rom as well
Links will be down for a bit... Uploading update
Updated App Packs are up
Updated Play Store
Updated Google Plus
Added Transparent AOSP MMS
Added Touchwiz Music Player to all 3 packs
Can you add the calendar next time around. or link me to a zip to inverted calendar.

BLACKED OUT SYSTEM APPS FOR OC7
Major Update. V 2.7 1/26/16
Hello everyone. I have found new love for this device after the OC7 update but I could not stand the overall white backgrounds and ugly touchwiz pastel colors. So I set to theming all the stock apps to be easier on the eyes and I thought I would share them with the community. I will upload a set of flashable zips and some screenshots. Just give me a few to get the thread setup. This is my first thread so be easy on me if things arent perfect but I feel confident in the work Ive done enough to share it with you all. This thread can also be used for learning how to theme our device. I have a wealth of knowledge on xml and smali file locations for most systems apps at the moment. If you want to start creating your own themes I would be glad to help you.
ATTENTION EVERYONE.... I have updated the theme to be more uniform and fixed quite a few little things since the first release. This time around I will be uploading an whole theme package instead of individual zips. I will still put some individual zips for download upon request. Hope you guys like it. There has been a ton of work into making this theme. Feel free to post bugs or color issues if you notice any I will keep updating as long as needed. Thanks for everyones patience while I got the bugs sorted out.

Nice! I Can't wait. One reason why I'm still using the s5 conversion rooted kitkat is bc of the ugly TouchWiz theme on Lollipop.

Thanks I've been going through and perfecting everything. It's going to be much more uniform than the present screenshots. I'll start uploading more individual flashable zips and a link to a complete theme on afh. Also I got permission to upload some of the other layers Ive ported so there will be a lot more apps themed. For eg. Flashfire, adaway, kernel audiator, nova and more. It will be ready soon!

Both. The max upload size on xda is too small for them entire theme so I will post a link to android file host. Thats why Ive been piecing it out in zips. Also If you want just a certain themed app you can grab just that.
Ive been debating on whether to use layers to save size or just release a whole rom. I think I will do both in time. This way the rom can have mods built in. For example having the advanced reboot built in, disabling the cover popups, DVFS and a bunch more. It wont be long Im refining everything in the theme at the moment.
Layer for flashfire
Layer for FlashFire.... Being updated please wait.
Update Coming Soon
Updated the Main Theme to V2. There are alot of theme fixes The in the system ui the dropdown outline now is around toggles and added a slight gradient to the background of pulldown menu. Also slight rounding to notifications
Thank you @Rick1684. This is, quite simply put, excellent work. I'll post a more detailed review when I get the chance, but suffice it to say I'm very happy. I just got the chance to flash the main theme v2, calc and music themes. I'm most pleased. I don't even use the stock music app anymore (I pulled the CM and use that lol) but it looks nice. And I love how all the system stuff is black now, looks great. Keep up the good work :good:
Edit: It makes the Google messages app conversations view black, but not the individual conversations. Again, not complaining, it's really cool

Thank you. Its probally due to the primaryTextColor in colors xml. Give me a few and ill see about fixing it. I dont use that app so I will have to make some changes
Hey @thisisapoorusernamechoice . Let me know what bugs you find. I have no problem making custom changes for our little group here. I looked into the messenger app. Are you talking about the black floating back on top of the actual back? I will have to make a custom version of messenger for you to fix this if so. I would make the floating back dark grey similar to the flashfire layer.
P.S. Im uploading a new version tonight with a few bug fixes. eg. highlighted text white on white fix, added gradient to popups, added outline to bottom popup menu, and more. Also going to start uploading all my custom tw apps soon. Ive got them to a point where Im comfortable sharing.
I will upload a lot of random things Ive themed here soon. eg. package installer, clipboard, documentsui, task manager, mms, and other misc things. I also have layers for a few third party apps that I use I will post them too. eg. adaway, es file explorer, google now, kernel auidtor, nova, layers manager, gmail, etc. Also I have been working on a ported SecSettings from the note. It gives more settings options and the ability to switch grid, list, and tab views on the fly. Its up and working and themed, Im just having an issue with force close on opening battery usage. I have to track down the lib file for the new apk. I might put it on android file host to if anyone wants to try it let me know. Most everything works if you can live with a few bugs until I get them sorted out.
Another project Im working on is creating a customsettings.apk that can change the main theme color. Basically everything thats blue in my theme will be able to be changed on the fly hopefully. Im still in the early stages of development and to be honest. So be patient please. I want to have it setup with a color picker so the theme can be changed to everyones taste. Along with other mods I found here on xda.
We can also use this thread to get everyones input on what they want in a rom. Im already working on integrating most of the mods you can do with the wanam xposed module. My goal is to use xposed for as little as possible. Try to bake in as much as possible. Please dont be shy if you have an idea, or can help with the development of this rom. Seeing as this is going to be our last update I say we take what we have and make the best of it.
Hi there, new to rooting and this kind of thing so maybe this isn't a bug and just be being dumb. I installed the v2 theme first and when I tried to install the rest of it on flashfire the menu went totally black and I can't see what I'm mounting for the rest of the parts, any ideas?
Edit: I see what I did wrong. I wasn't sure what a layer was but I've got it all figured out now, sorry for wasting your time, love the theme so far!
Edit 2: I can't see what I'm doing in the Layers Manager but I think I got it, still others might have an issue if they cant see like me.
Hopefully last edit: Not sure if it was intended or not but on the volume sliders the "Media" slider is still blue on the circle while the others are now white.

Hey Im sorry about the confusion. Whats happening with layers manager is that they pull their text color from the framework guessing that the main text color is black. But its set to white in the theme. I really wish they and alot of other app devs wouldnt rely on framework for colors they can easily add them in their app. Anyway this is fixed easily by installing a dark layer for layers manager. You can use any of them from the playstore or ill link mine to this post. As far as the volume slider thats still a work in progress. I have to track down whats turning it blue. There is an xml somewhere for the allow high volumes popup. It turns the slider blue and red. Ill try to get that in the next update. Try the 2.3 I just uploaded, I themed the volume slider background.

Hey I just realized that Im using messenger app from teamblackout not the stock one. So If you want google measenger themed you can get it from their thread. I will make a layer for it in time. I think thats the best way seeing as it gets updated alot. Thats one if the really nice things about layers.

No worries man, still a solid theme and everything seems to be in order. I found a fix via the playe store on an app that changes color of the system's fonts (Color Fonts #1) so it looks good on most apps (since like you said most app devs use the framework font instead of their own) and it fixes most issues with a white font on white background. Also the 2.3 update looks good so keep up the good work! Totally stoked to be customizing my phone now and am looking forward to the final version.

What is the correct procedure to follow, as a user, after an actively applied theme is updated from the Play Store?
After downloading updates, Substratum pops up a notification saying that the resources were successfully updated. Is the new version fully applied at this point, or do I need to go back in to Substratum and rebuild / apply the theme after choosing all the options again? Some themes say that you should reboot after installing, is the reboot also required after updating?
Good question. What about updating substratum / Andromeda too?
There are some new users doing the rootless thing and it seems to handle things differently than the root methods so maybe a FAQ would be in order.
For example, when themed apps update they can be broken until the theme is fixed or reapplied. I got locked out of the phone app the other day because of this and that was a surprise.
Following to see as well. I'm rootless with Andromeda too.

Same. Just a guess but I'd uninstall everything, update, reboot, reconnect, reinstall all layers. Kind of fail safe, no?

Probably a question I'd be asking soon so....just following the thread now.

Since going for the rootless method, I just received one update to Swift Black. I updated each layer 5 at a time like the description for that theme specifically states to do when installing. Also, Substratum said new version available for each one too prior to updating them all. Had a few app crashes in the process. Once they were all updated, I did a reboot and all looks fine. Even Twitter decided to update after the fact and it didn't affect the theme or app, I'm guessing large updates are what would cause the problems.
you'll need to reconnect to your computer, start Andromeda, and then build and update your themes
I've noticed there is a build and update option that you should use. Build and enable on something already themed seemed to break it and result in unthemed app. Recovery for that was remove theme from that app and start over. You'd think this would be fixed in the future to make it a little more easy to use. Substratum already knows there is a theme is on there and should auto select update.
I've been avoiding the Android system one, if you don't touch that you don't seem to need to reboot and can avoid tethering to reactivate Andromeda. Last time I touched that one it messed up notifications until I rebooted, but so far that's the only one I've noticed that REQUIRES a reboot.
Seeing things crash while updating is a little disturbing but I understand they need to be closed (out of memory) to update their resources on disk.
Starting to get a hang of it, it's less elegant than I would wish but looks great.
Hey, guys.
I live in Canada and my provider is Virgin. I have a P20 with EMUI 9.0 (Android Pie) and I've been using the themes app fine even though I didn't have AppGallery or Huawei Mobile Services installed through 3rd party apps. I used to have options to look at more than my preset themes. Due to the recent US-Huawei ban, I have decided to try out the AppGallery and it installed Huawei Mobile Services app as well. Since Canada didn't show up as one of the regions, I have chosen UK as the region. I have lost all the abilities to change my themes since then. I have attached a screenshot of what my Themes homepage looks like. There is an option to customize but it still only shows stock options and no new installed themes and no way to theme the actual UI. Is there any way around this? I have also factory reset my phone and it didn't help.

Hi!
For theme downloads and theme editing I've tried the following apps:
Themes for Huawei / Honor / EMUI - This android app is not only for downloading themes but also for editing. You can modify every theme as you wish - change fonts, icons, emojies, colors.
Theme Editor For EMUI - This android app can import hwt files to edit them. It's not very user-friendly.
Huawei hwtTool - This windows/iOS software is a developer tool from Huawei Dev-Server. It can create and edit themes in the most comfortable way. Your PC.
I think you should try the first app first.
Greetings!
Thanks for these apps. But the problem that I have isn't that I cannot install themes. Once I install a custom theme, there isn't a way to apply it. I used to be able to see custom installed themes in the Huawei factory Themes app but now the options are gone.
As you can see in my original post, the preset themes are the only themes I can see. There used to be an option to choose "My Themes". After I choose Customize option, I get to change the wallpapers and icons but even with those options I only get preset themes.
I even tried to find a place to move a custom hwt file to where the preset themes are placed but couldn't find it.
This is super annoying since P20 doesn't come with native dark mode like the P20 Pro.

This is super annoying since P20 doesn't come with native dark mode like the P20 Pro.

I'm having this same problem with my p20
Exact same problem here. Even tried using the Huawei mobile service but it just won't even start. Anyone having a workaround?
same prob here
I have the same issue, but I am sure it was a problem before I added app gallery (I chose Australia lol) and mobile services. It was because I couldn't change themes that I went searching for them in the first place.
I need a dark mode. Any updates?
Ok, so I spent the better part of today trying to figure out why Substratum would successfully compile themes, but after rebooting it would say no overlays are installed, therefore I couldn't enable them.
Info:
Resurrection Remix 7.1.2
Galaxy Note 4
Latest version of Nougat-compatible Substratum, from APKMirror
Substratum theme interfacer installed as system app
Latest stable version of Magisk
Latest Play Store/Play Services
Substratum theme mode: RRO legacy (ROM dev says there is limited OMS support, but Substratum doesn't detect it)
Latest Flux (black), Swift Black, Pitch Black, bought from Play Store
I tried upgrading/downgrading Substratum as well, made no difference. It successfully compiled and installed themes, but after reboot, no overlays present. I can see all the installed overlays in /data/app, though they don't show up in Settings' installed apps list.
I went looking for an alternative to Substratum, and found an app called Bucket, on F-Droid website. The app is old, your theme will probably have a lock icon on it, and the message "Theme is using unsupported template version". Just ignore this. Tap on the 3 dots menu in upper right corner of app, then "Installed". You should see a list of installed overlays, check off the ones you want enabled, then click the + button in bottom right, then "Enable selected". You might need to reboot too.
This fixed the issue for me, now Flux, Swift Black, and Pitch Black all work fine.
So, in simple steps:
Install Substratum
Install Bucket
Install your theme
In Substratum, compile the theme
Reboot
In Bucket, enable the overlays
Reboot
Profit!
I'm thinking maybe this info might help others that are experiencing this issue. Of course, you don't need Bucket if Substratum detects your overlays.
Edit: I just discovered that, once enabled, the overlays will appear in Substratum, despite it saying no overlays installed before. So you would only need to use Bucket to initially enable overlays, afterwards you can manage them from Substratum.
