Removed. Wrong Post.
No matter what I try bxactions tells me I still need to disable the Bixby button but it is disabled.
Ok, after joining your beta program I've now gotten it to tell me the Bixby button is disabled. But then I go to enable remapping the button but it won't stick. I exit out of the buttons menu and then go back and remapping is again disabled. Hmmmmmm

I can confirm this to be true. A reset makes AOD work again. It works again for a while but then stops again after a while.
Everyone new to BxActions should get the Pro version. The speed it provides, not to mention the extra remap options, are more than worth it.

Would you happen to be the developer? The pro version or connecting it to a pc also lets you use a double and triple press action with the app.

I haven't noticed an option for triple presses.
Holy permissions.
Up to now I was using bxActions to remap the bixby button (single press).
I just upgraded to Pie and now the single press remap does not seem to work.
Bixby single press always shows the message 'Hold the bixbutton to start bixby.'
A remap on the long press still works and launches the requested application.
Is there a way to remap the single press on bixby in Android Pie?

I think you must disable bixby home or bixby sthg. using ADB method and then restart app or reboot.
Tried this on an S9+ with Lineage OS and there's no permssions available for the bixby button when the app asks for it, only the volume buttons....
What's the problem?

Does anybody know a good app to assign actions to the hardware buttons (Touchbuttons on the bottom)? Of course only for the long press action. Otherwise I think I need the defaults I found out that when you keep the home key pressed, it shows a panel with the last opened apps, and the same with the Search button gives you Google Voice. I also have an App that toggles auto-rotate which runs on the long press of the Search button. However, must apps are not smart enough to distinguish between short and long press: They perform their action anyway, and if I keep the button pressed, I can also turn off auto rotate. But that's kinda annoying. The Homekey doesn't have this problem, so I'd like to move auto-rotate to this key. Is there an app that can do this? Or some other means of configuration?
Found LaunchKey in the meantime, but it only works for the Long-press search button. Would like long press home button... No ideas?! There is Button remapper, but it says it requires root.

Has anybody experienced this even while having the "Keep screen turned off" option toggled on?
The power button does like it should when it's pressed in my pocket (meaning it has a pop-up notification saying the screen will turn off in x seconds) but the Bixby button just turns the screen on and activates like the phone is unlocked.
I've restarted phone and cleared cache (from the hard button press with phone off) and it still persists. I'm hoping there's a toggle somewhere I haven't found to keep the screen locked as I don't really want to download an app to remap or disable the button, but if there's no way around it I suppose I'll just go ahead and do it.
From- A very annoyed customer who texted 5 people and opened the weather app about 30 times today while he was at work
I've had this same issue. I thought it was me. I take my device out of my pocket and Bixby is on. If you find the toggle, please post it.
I had this problem and inadvertent presses just holding the phone then got an update now the button does nothing !!!
Actually that's probably an improvement

I did what he did as well just to solve my issue for the time being. The App is called Package Disabler Pro. It's $1.49 on the app store. I installed, scrolled down and selected 'Bixby' (com.samsung.android.bixby.agent) and selected 'disable' at the top.
It keeps the button from working when pressed. I'm still hopeful they find a solution to fix this, because I have absolutely no use for the button thanks to the Edge Panel and Nova Launcher being able to launch everything I want...

Everything that has the word Bixby..
You can use this app it's working great and can disable brix or remap key to open another app..
It's called bxActions and is free in play store without need of root!
With bxActions you can remap your Bixby button to any action or app you like!
Use the Bixby button launch you camera, open google, toggle recent apps or launch any app you like!
You can even remap the Bixby button to launch google assistant
Theres also an option to disable the Bixby button completely.
I downloaded that app and couldn't find any option to disable the button itself. Disabling Bixby or remapping the button didn't help...it seems to me to be the button, not the Bixby app that is causing the problem.

I used a different app to disable Bixby and although that worked, the button itself still turned the phone on and causes me to text or call people. It even bought something on Google Play one time.
I am going to try Package Disabler Pro on your recommendation and give it a try though.
Samsung better get a handle on this. The Bixby thing might turn out to be a great feature eventually, but they are causing people to hate it in the meantime.
NOTE: On a rooted device, this is the fastest, most reliable and problem-free method for remapping Bixby (no limitations, no setup)
Button Mapper allows you to remap any action you want to physical or capacitive hardware buttons. This includes volume buttons, Bixby button, and many buttons on game controllers and other hardware you attach to your phone.
You can map shortcuts, apps or actions to single press, double tap and long press for hardware buttons.
The Bixby button on the Galaxy S9 and S9+ is supported as of version 0.62
Bixby remapping of single, double and long press is completely free. No ads. Pro version not required.
Does not require root. If your device is rooted, you will have many more options (essentially unlimited). Also with root, Bixby remapping does not involve any hacks, it is implemented at the input level (native).
This does require an adb command to remap Bixby on unrooted devices. It's a one-time setup. I do not use the method used by other apps because it leads to a poor user experience (i.e. swiping right causes actions to occur, gets stuck in a loop)
This app is continually updated with new features and improvements.

I'm unable to test because I don't have a computer at the moment for the adb command, so just had a question. Does this allow for one of the remapped options to still be bixby, specifically the screen/feed you get when swiping right on the default launcher? ie remap bixby button single tap to flashlight, remap double tap to bring up bixby feed (or regular bixby)?
Perfect! Thank you. Why won't it work with the screen off though?

The best way to use the button for both Bixby and something else would be to have single press open Bixby and long press turn on the flashlight.
To do this, leave the bixby button "on" in bixby settings, leave single press default in Button Mapper, and set long press to flashlight.

The screenshot function uses Android's cast API and the flashlight requires the camera permission. The app never records video.
The app will ask for permissions as needed, that way you know which action requires the permission.

Hi everyone,
Really interested in people's thoughts on the Bixby Button.
Initially I hated it, but after a) accidentally pressing it less since thanks to muscle memory, and more importantly b) the ability to make it do anything other than launch Bixby (such as double press for Google Assistant, long press for flashlight) I have found myself appreciating the existence of this extra button. So much so in fact, that speculation it could be removed in the Galaxy S10 have kind of dissapointed me.
So what do you think? Should the Bixby button stay, or should it be removed? Vote in the poll and share your thoughts in the comments!
It needs to go. Just go away.
If you could natively remap the button to whatever you choose, that would be great, but in the stock incarnation its terrible. Just horrible.
I disabled all of packages related to Bixby. In turn, it disabled the button.
The only thing it ever did for me was get accidentally hit and bumped.

Which remapper are you using?
I'm using ButtonMapper by flar2.
Single tap: nothing
Double tap: Google Assistant
Long Press: Flashlight
I'm finding that it adds value to me (only in the scenario remapping tools exist) and id rather see it kept around.
Bixby
The Bixby button is nothing more than a bloody nuisance.
I accidently activated it so many times that I turned Bixby feature off. I hope Samsung are reading this.
Cheers
Aussie
I remap it using bxactions.
Single: Google Now
Double: Samsung Pay
Hold: Google Assistant
Samsung just needs to admit that Bixby is a failure. It was a cool concept with the S8, but they took WAY too long to fully release it, and when they did, it was pretty terrible. Hell, I'd rather use Cortana than Bixby, and that's saying something...
Neither, I'd just like them to offer us the option to switch it to Google Assistant

bxactions from Jawomo, I paid for the pro version.
Bixby is good for in Phone stuff. But they should give us the option to remap it.
Those who say it should go away: If it was a Google Assistant button, would you feel the same way? It looks like the LG 7 will have a dedicated assistant button, and the Pixel XL2 has a dedicated "squeeze" action for Assistant, and no one complains about that.
I don't use Bixby, but by using a 3rd party app to use the Bixby button for other things I believe it's fairly useful.
Bixby Button Remapper works great. Just press it and Google Now opens up. It is fine for me.

Haven't heard of this one, on the bright side, it's still more useful than Bixby
You could try Button Mapper (made by @flar2) to see if it could help you set single press = nothing.
Uncustomisable Bixby button is the worst thing a smartphone can have and it's death is a must, and it should not be even remembered as a nightmare post its demise. Only if Samsung gives "full freedom" to customize, it should be considered.
Hello, i was recently experimenting with this Project: https://github.com/epeterson320/flashlight
In android studio. Its a flashlight app with no ui you just tap the icon and the flashlight activates, however i added an intent filter to the android manifest allowing the app to be launched with the "Jump to camera" gesture, this allows you to toggle the flashlight on and off with a double tap of the power button even when the screen is locked.
Instructions
Download and install
Lock phone and double tap power button
Enter your PIN or fingerprint
Select flashlight as default app
This will only work on phones that have the "Jump to camera" gesture. For example Nexus and Pixel phones, OnePlus phones and probably more. It will also replace the camera shortcut obviously. Clear defaults to select camera again.
so yeah hope someone finds this useful
Credit to @epeterson320 for creating the original app.
Download below in attached files
Thank you!!! This is amazing.
Christ this is like the one feature that's a deal breaker for me, Xposed torch is great but not seeing Xposed for android 9 yet; and this works well enough. Great thinking and thank you!
Problem
Hello. I have got a problem. Every time the phone is turned off for a longer period, when i double tap a power button camera turns on instead of flashlight. When I turn off the camera and double tam button again, flashlight works. Have anyone got this problem too? (xz1 compact, 47.2.A.8.24)
Edit: I have found out that when i remove password protection everything works

Sorry but I'm not sure to understand how your app may help : We're talking about enabling the flashlight using physical button shortcut.
Maybe I missed something but for me that's not what your app is doing, is it ?
Anyway, I'm using Torchie now and it kinda work : You enable it by pressing Vol+ AND Vol- at the same time, but it ONLY work when you're on the lockscreen and the screen is on.
So : "Power" to wake the screen, "Vol+ and Vol- together" to turn the light on or off
If anybody find something better, let us know. For now, this is a little cumbersome but it's working.
The Tap Tap app on GitHub works for flashlight by double tapping the back of the phone.
