Root?
Are you willing to root the device? Many custom ROMS and kernels offer incredibly extended battery life. The processes are quite simple and laid out by developers in a step-by-step method for you.
Current I have a Samsung Vibrant 4g and am running a custom rom and kernel.
I can listen to Pandora from 8am to 12pm, texting and dicking around on the internet the whole time and am left with 50-60% battery life by 5pm.
If I don't use the phone at all it will last for about 2-3 days uncharged.
For tips all phone
Use Power control to close many thing ( wifi bluetooth GPS Sync )

Fongwe is correct.
Doesn't matter which phone you will use, you will always have complaints about the battery life, whether be it an Android Device or an i Device or a WP Device.
Since we are talking about a phone in Android section, I will say that so far out of all those Android phones I have tried/used, Incredible S has got the best battery life(This is strictly my personal opinion, I am saying everything based on my personal experience only.).
Next after Incredible S for me has been Atrix 4G.
After that I can say may be you will get decent battery life out of a Nexus S.
Don't get me wrong about Nexus S as a third place, it has got a decent battery life, the only problem is the 3G connection kills the power.
If you have background sync, bluetooth, 3G radio, wireless and too many applications running in the background all together, doesn't matter which phone you use, it will not give you a great battery experience regardless.
This is my typical usage from those recent phones. With about 2 hours phone call, few minutes of surfing, sync on constantly with 3G connection, play casual games for a few minutes and watch youtube for about 15 mins.
Incredible S - About 10 hours - Stock ROM
Atrix 4G - About 8-9 hours - Aura
Nexus S - About 6.5 hours - CM7 (May be my phone's battery is indeed defective)
If you are at work/home/on way, consider switching off your 3G radio and you will save up a lot of battery. Also, if you get a single core processor, it uses up less battery than a dual core phone.
Good luck.
Cheers!!!
Thanks for the information guys! will try these asap
Atrix has pretty good battery life. Atrix 2 should too.

iPhone or wait for Nokia Wp.
You will always get the occasional answer on saving battery life and I think that constitutes for a big part of how you could really get a device that would last long.
I think that you should be efficient in switching applications, service and the phone itself off, if you want to have it last longer through the day.
Also, rooting it would be another good option but those who want to keep it as is, this would be no option.
New ROMs help
I have a Vibrant that I used about a year. I went through a lot of different ROMs/Kernels during that time. Battery life varied wildly based on overclocking, undervolting, open apps and apps used. Also, just like mentioned above, if you drive through areas where the phone is always searching for new connections it can have an effect on battery life as well. Pick a phone with good ratings that you like and keep the background apps to a minimum. Figure you will be charging every 1-2 days, 3 at the most.
Galaxy S II. Dualcore, used properly, saves battery.
I turned off GPS and Bluetooth on my Galaxy Captivate and the battery last 2 or 3 times longer. Turn off Wi-fi too, if you can live without it.

Ok so i've seen a few threads between here and other websites regarding the Note 3s battery issues but felt the need to make my own as I still haven't found any kind of solution.
I purchased my Note 3 N9005 (I live in the UK) around a month ago and ever since my battery has been terrible ever since. I am basing this on the fact that I have owned a Note 3 twice previously (I managed to get one just after they came out for a reasonable price second hand and also owned one around 6 months ago for a while) and battery life on those two devices were fantastic.
Around a week and a half ago I decided to root and try a couple of roms to see if it would make any difference after making sure it wasn't my SD card causing the problem and couldn't really try anything else. After going from the CMRemix, CM11 and Echoe 5.0 not a great deal changed on each after using each one for a couple of days, every day my battery gets hammered by 'android system' and 'android os'. After seeing a post about it I have gone back to stock touchwiz using the 4.4.2 Nordic firmware. This made no difference either.
I have posted some pictures of my battery life since getting up this morning. I always have sync turned off and my screen is always just above the minimum brightness. Im on Wifi a lot between work and home which in theory should use less power. I've been playing contest of champions quite a bit recently which I would expect to be a battery drainer but it is still beaten by my screen and this android system and OS combo. I also don't get why battery dropped around 18% (30 something to the 15% warning) in around 20 minutes which is the red line on the battery graph. Last Friday I went to sleep with my battery on around 78%, when I woke up it had dropped to 42% with no apps left running.
I'm literally out of ideas. I've tried everything i've seen on forums and it hasn't worked. I've owned an S5, m8 and z2 but ended up coming back to a note because they are simply fantastic phones. I am however seriously considering selling this and getting a different phone if I don't figure this out soon though. Can anyone help or is this simply an unsolvable problem caused by horrendous software implementation, or am I being stupid and should be content with 13 hours irregular battery life???

Thats just not normal, try to use app wakelock detector (from playstore) to see what apps are currently running, you can also go to the device app manager and then go to "running apps" and then see what apps are running on backround, that would give you a general idea of where are the battery draining apps. Then all you have to do is to disable/freeze them , using the inbuilt disable option under the app settings or using a third party program like app quarantine (from playstore). Note that i also recommend you disabling apps you dont use , like for example samsung apps etc.

Thanks for the advice. I even ordered a new battery from samsung which arrived this morning but that doesn't seem to have made much difference either. If I hadn't seen similar cases to mine i'd think my phone was broken but honestly I'm starting to think that is down to samsung software and won't ever be fixed. It's a shame because the Note 3 is the best phone i've owned but ill be steering clear of samsung devices in the future

Use Greenify to hibernate apps..it will save ur battery..
Greenify is a big help. Also use Titanium Backup to freeze or uninstall anything with the word 'Samsung' in it that you don't need (they're terrible, in my experience).
Some other things that can help are turning off GPS and Bluetooth when you don't need them, raising your wi-fi scan interval if you typically leave wi-fi on in areas you're not connected, using an app like AutoStarts to control what apps wake up when, and you should check what apps you have auto-syncing, and how often. If you don't need gmail and facebook to sync every 5 minutes (just an example), then change the interval. And unless you spent a good bit of time playing it before you took those screenshots, I would highly recommend ditching that Champions game.
Aside from that, another thing you might want to consider is trying a different kernel. Some kernels are just bad on battery life.
I'm on my original, stock battery, and I get 22-26 hours typically, with moderate usage, and anywhere from 6-10+ hours of screen on time. Right now I'm sitting at 18h5m29s with 5h26m3s screen on, with 27% battery left.

Trying a custom kernel is something else I'd though about. It's crazy that you've got those battery stats. My brightness is always near minimum and I only get 4 hours on a good day. Judging from posts I've read those android os and system percentages are accurate for the note 3 nowadays. I never have sync turned on so that can't be the issue. I've got this phone on ebay now so if I don't sort this out in the next couple of days I'll be moving on unfortunately, bit sad as this is the best phone I've owned

I'm in the same boat. Stock 4.3 with tons of apps frozen, greenify doing its thing and Google Play Services tamed as it was draining the battery. To me everything looks ok in WLD but I have noticed that something called 1013 which is always at the top with most amount of wakes, is that system audio? I also have screen brightness on minimum, powersaving mode on, bluetooth and gps off, sync on and most of the time usually on wifi networks.
I have managed 6hrs screen on before but when using device moderately over 2 days I get 4 hrs screen on time at best, usually 3 or 2.5 hrs.
The 6 hrs was managed when I watched 3 movies in a row, it seems sleep takes more than it should? Wake ups are a problem?

Yeah something has definitely gone wrong at the core of the phones software, especially when different roms and stock firmware builds are making no difference at all. I flashed AEL kernel yesterday so i'm seeing how that goes today. I'll post screenshots when i get home from work, so far my batteries only dropped 10% in 3 hours but thats with 30mins screen on time.
Had similar battery draining issues, I froze Unified Daemon (EUR) this appears to have fixed it.
I have faced this issue after my phone got the last update.
Even the android system was consuming more than the screen.
I removed Google account and put it back again but this time i limited the Google features that do the sync to the required only, gave a full recharge, the second day the android system consumption decrease a bit.
I gave it a full recharge cycle each day for the next 3 days and later it came back to normal.
I hope that helps.

I had the same problem. for months and no solution anywhere. what I did was to downgrade back to jellybean. this is the only thing that seemed to stop the drain. though I still believe my battery was much better on the initial jellybean.

Dear XDA Members,
I'm having some issues with the battery of my Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. About 2 weeks ago, 2 phones in this house, a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and Huawei Ascend P7, started (quite simultaneously) to have battery issues. They both are on the stock rom and are not rooted. To sketch the degree of the issue: the Huawei had about 40% after 7 hours standby with 3 minutes screen on time. The Samsung lost 65% in one night just being idle.
At first we thought it were the phones that were having the issues, so we returned the Huawei to the shop (about 40 kilometers away). The people of the shop called yesterday, saying that the phone is lying in the shop for over 3 days now, still having 40% percent of battery. This made us think it was something with the antennas here in the neighbourhood.
In the mean time we had already bought a new battery for the Samsung (an original Samsung battery), and I have performed a factory reset. The battery still drains quite heavily when airplane mode isn't enabled. However, last night the Samsung still lost over 15% with airplane mode enable and all recent apps killed.
I completely lost track about what the issue can be. To me it seems that the fact that the phones started having issues at the same time is caused by an external factor. But in that case, I cannot explain the 15% overnight battery drain on the S4 Mini on airplane mode with a new battery. Should I return the Galaxy S4 Mini to Samsung to have it looked at and fixed, or should I try some other things first?
If anyone wants some more information about the issue or the devices, I'll happily provide it.
Thanks in advance!
Note: It is not my intention to root the S4 Mini or push settings to the limit to have 0% battery drain, I just want 1 or 2 days of battery life again, depending on the usage.
Edit: There are also a OnePlus One and Galaxy Gio being used in our house, who do not seem to have severe issues. This confuses me even more about the external factors (antenna failure?) that might be draining the battery. We all have the same provider...
There are many ways to save your battery life:_
some of them are as follows:---
***Go to recovery and clear cache this will help improve the battery.. Use clean master from play store, which will disable / stop unwanted apps, clear app cache.
***Try using Greenify
***I recommend GSAM battery monitor app from play store. It's very easy to understand and is very good at locating battery issues.

In settings>battery check your mobile network signal of last night and see if there is any app that is sucking your battery.
You should try greenify but you need root access.
Thanks for your answers. If the problems do not get solved I will indeed try some of those apps (I've used Greenify earlier, I know it's great )
I've monitored the apps draining the battery, and in fact there aren't many apps that use a lot of battery. It's mostly the screen or mobile radio active, which makes me think it's something antenna related.
I've spoken to my neighbour who is a customer of the same provider, and he indicated he has issues to since a few weeks. I mailed to my provider and see how things turn out
Thanks for your tips!

Yeah i also think the problem is in network quality, you should try another sim for some time and see the difference.
I have been humming along on the P900 with the HyperDrive rom which just seems to work flawlessly and give good battery. Reading many posts that talk about battery life decrease on lollipop for not many more functions. I want a touchwiz rom because of the multiwindow functionality.
Does anyone have any comparison comments between a solid kitkat rom on P900 (like HyperDrive) to LL on the P900 (like civato ROM)?
Trying to decide if it is worth the investment to change it out and test etc. Thank you.
To be honest with you I was chomping at the bit for lollipop on the Note 4 due to the additional multiwindow feature of having the ability to swipe in from the upper corners to convert a fullscreen app into a windowed one. That function alone was enough for me to switch.
I've been on Civato's lollipop ROM basically since it came out and the experience is solid. I have no battery life complaints - to me battery life is less ROM dependent and more user software/use dependent. Everyone's mileage varies based upon load placed upon the device so manage your apps and you will be fine. For me i use Xposed module Amplify to control a handful of wakelocks and alarms to reduce standby drain, I also use Greenify to hibernate apps (and have ALL of the xposed based greenify features turned on). That combination gets me great standby drain of under 1% per hour (well under at times). Currently my battery is at 85% having been unplugged for 9 hours and having an hour of youtube streaming on it.
I'm not sure what features one may be fearful of losing on the move to LP but i don't think battery life should be a major concern but that's just me.
this tab should never lose 1% per hour idle. ever ever ever lol
it has a pretty large capacity, 9800 mAh, and is not cellular. I don't run any kind of hibernation or kill mods, and can go almost all day idle per 1%
I am using Hyperdrive, and my friend also has the p900 -- his on civato LP. same result
I do wish I had that multi window minimize option, but I like the stability, smaller resource footprint, and mod compatibility of KK. I use/do a lot of things that most other ppl who mod probably wouldn't though.
also the full screen Recents screen on LP would bother the hell out of me lol anything that goes full screen disconnects me from a couple games I play (as if I received a call or something). on KK with partial screen Recents, I can kill apps anywhere any time without having to minimize or close the current app(s)

Never say never. Depends upon what software people put on their devices that may produce wakelocks or frequently wake the device. Things like weather apps, multiple social media apps at once, multiple email accounts with lots of incoming email via push etc. I mean I totally agree with you, these tablets have a great kernel and sip power well at idle but OP brought up battery life as a concern over switching so I addressed that and arbitrarily tossed out a number and qualified it with a well under remark to boot. The typical reality for me is when I set my tablet down in the morning at work and pick it up 4 or 5 hours later the battery percentage hasn't changed more than a percentage point.

i don't use social media apps but my friend does. neither of us kept the email apps -- uninstalled from /system
I have like 20 push-notification enabled games and other background services including weather. he probably has about 50 or so push notification games. he's always struggling to find room to keep games installed lol point being we both have what would and should be perceived as monstrous wakelock
issues, but in spite of that still get great sleep times
idk how much we can credit the kernel for the long sleeps to be honest. I know kernels have a large impact on it but I've owned 7 android devices for 2+ years and all rooted within hours out-of-the-box
this one is a survivor, above all expectations I feel that the battery capacity is the largest factor here, because, for example, 10 wakes in an hour on a phone and 10 wakes on a tab, both with tuned custom kernels, should drain almost exactly the same power as each other. only with very minor differences
but that amount of power, is a smaller portion of the larger battery that was necessary for the giant screen. see what I'm getting at?

Definitely do yes and agree, the high capacity of the battery compared to other devices makes a huge difference in observed standby drain. I'm just not as comfortable as you are in speaking in absolutes, these subforums have far less battery related posts for a reason and that's the main one.

Hi,
I have a Note 20 Ultra that doesn't see a whole lot of use. I have a few apps on it, mostly stuff for my smart lights and a few other things. I don't run push on anything and the apps that I have on the Note 20 are the same that I had on my old Note 8.
Lately my phone has spent a lot of time sitting because my job gave me a phone that I use pretty much exclusively during the week. I've noticed that in spite of the lack of apps on the phone and the lack of use, I lose somewhere between 15 and 20 percent of the battery per day, with nothing done to it.
I'm at a loss as to what's causing it. I check the battery app in settings and it shows me nothing useful. I have put unused apps to sleep turned on and have added a few apps to the sleeping apps section. I was wondering if there is any non-rooted way to figure out what is causing the battery drain and to fix it.
Before I had this phone, I had a Note 8. That phone was my absolute favorite phone. I loved that phone. It had a great camera, good screen, and in spite of having quite a few more apps on it, it did much better on battery than this Note 20 does. Between the battery suck and the lack of any useful macro on the camera, this ranks near the absolute bottom of the list of my favorite phones. I'm ready to have Verizon turn on my Note 8 and sell this thing on craigslist. I wish that I'd never gotten this thing but as long as I have it, I'd at least try to do something about the battery drain when just sitting on a table doing nothing other than sitting on a table.
When I had some unexplained battery consumption I used Safe Mode which helped.
Put the phone in Safe Mode which disables your downloaded app's but let's your stock app's keep working. If the issues stop then this highlights a downloaded app as the possible issue. Come out of Safe Mode and start deleting your most recent downloaded app's one at a time until it stops. https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-to-start-my-galaxy-device-in-safe-mode/

Thanks. I've never understood why they don't make it easier to identify what apps are causing problems. That battery app is pretty useless. You wouldn't know by looking at it that I was having any problems at all.
The last few years I have a battery drain between 0.7% and 0.8% per hour, when phone "sleeps" next to me during the night. I use free Gsam battery monitor to check. So your daily "use" while sleeping seems normal. 24 times 0.8 equals that. With ca 20%/day
I use Samsung Notes for years and years and it always comes to that average. Wifi, Bluteooth, Radio, and all other possible options left ON.
Switching them all off or airplane mode, makes no difference at all.

Hi,
I have a Note 20 Ultra that doesn't see a whole lot of use.

I use GSAM Battery Monitor Pro, there's a free version to. With just a couple adb commands you can enable app sucker which will tell what all your installed apps are doing to your battery.
