Honda Accord 2018 Sport and installing Apps - General Questions and Answers

HI all,
So far I've been reading the threads here for the Civic and the Pilot for hacking the Honda head unit for installing Waze and Google Play Music, but nothing seems to work with the 2018 Accord, I may be missing something.. I don's seem to need anything else so far. Just getting tired of the slow charges, using my music just from my phone and having to turn on and off "Stay Awake" from the developers menu on my phone for Waze to get GPS signal. So I was thinking of just going back to Bluetooth Calls and using a 256GB drive in the USB with MP3 and FLAC files ad using Waze directly from the head unit. Will also like to install an app that will get rid of the 50hz bass roll-off from the head unit and a better EQ, 3 bands is not enough adjustment or I might just go and buy a DSR1 processor.
This is what I've done so far
1. Enable developers mode on the head unit.
2. Enable ADB
3. Go to the yellow diagnostics menu and check all settings, can't seem to find a wireless ADB setting or how to change from device/Host mode.
4. Extract the app info text from the app I want to install but cant find the White list file to update without going into device mode first to navigate the file structure.
My head unit is running Android 6 and all works fine, is just the small inconveniences. Thanks everyone for your help.

Have you had any luck connecting with ADB over USB? I've got a 2018 EX-L and haven't had any luck with ADB, putting the head into Device mode, or finding a way to enable the web browser. There doesn't seem to be a lot of information out there yet about the 2018 heads. I found a post on Reddit about how one guy was able to gain access to the web browser on a 2018 Pilot with a similar head, but that trick doesn't work on ours.

Not yet, still trying. Found something about an extra menu once the USB A to A is plugged into the computer but havent been able to try it yet. Once the USB cable is plugged into the computer, you have to hold the menu button to switch it to device mode. Hope that works

Was that on a 2018 model? Any chance you can send me the link to that post?

That's on the civic and pilot threads.

Yeah, only some of that is applicable to us. For 2018, hold Power, Home, and Source to enter the first hidden menu, then hold Home to enter the second hidden menu. Still haven't figured out how to get to the third menu, where you can change the device mode.

I'll try it again this weekend. With long hours at work and making head unit bypass and mercman mini harnesses for the 9th Gen, it's sometimes hard to get this stuff done. Havent been able to install my new speakers, DSP and amp either.

The hack that was discovered to work on the 2018 Odyssey with a very similar head unit has been fixed on ours. I keep trying to get creative, but it seems like Honda is finally working to lock these down...

Damn, I was hoping on installing a 256GB HDD, Waze and a Google Play Music. I'll be trying this weekend again for the hack and seeing what I can find. With Android there's always a way. I could try see I I can boot in in download or recovery mode and installing SU. Honda needs a way to service these, all we have to do is find it.

So I’m not certain how or if it helps, but I have been able to get access to the web browser on my 18 Accord.

I got access to it too. What we need is a working ADB session yoneither oush SU, or reboot in download or recovery mode. And that will be our next roadblock, finding out if we can push files in recovery.

I'll be honest, I don't know how repeatable this is, but here is how I went about it.
I did a factory reset on the stereo to troubleshoot something else. Imgur album below that kind of follows along. After I did a reset I noticed a new icon on the top bar in the spot just to the left of the clock. It resembled a cellular/wifi strength indicator with a question mark. When tapping it I would go to the system status screen where a new line appeared that reads "Sign in to network" with the options of "Open" or "Dismiss". When I click "Open" it would bring me to a bit of a controlled browser titled "Sign in to network" that has a hyperlink that lists there is a security issue with the website it's trying to direct me to. On that page it gives me the option to "Continue anyway via browser". When I click that, it launches a full browser and I can get to anywhere, as long as I'm on wifi.
If I screw up at any point, or close down the browser, or go home, I have to shut my car off for a few minutes, turn it back on and the question mark returns.

Do you think Panasonic service manuals or Honda manuals are needed?
Step 1 has to be able to tell the headunit to receive.
Would a Honda tech need this?
Sounds more like for programmers at Panasonic.
I will search and see who else uses Panasonic maybe mind a clue.

Thank you for helping with the search. Yes, we use panasonic for the Basic trim and 1.5t Sport. Not sure for the 2.0T.

I did some quick searching last week and came up mostly empty. Presumably there's a manual somewhere that details how to put the unit into Device mode and/or enter recovery mode.

Thanks for the share. Unfortunately, or didn't teach me anything new. :/ I also spent the $20 for access to Honda's tech info site with their thousands of service manuals, bulletins, and updates. Nothing useful there, either. I think we need a Panasonic Automotive manual.

is there such software that can do this?

is there a software of where you can answer your Fuze's phone call or make a phone call wireless from your pc?? like you have your fuze in one room and someone calls and youre on the computer, on the computer it alerts you and you can answer the call and talk straight from the computer without havin to go all the way to the other room and getting it, if anyone knows a software that can do that plz tell me, thnx alot
I haven't done this but I think you can do that over bluetooth. I was just playing around with my Bluetooth the other day and saw hands free as an option. So maybe the software is built right in to windows. But as i said I haven't tried it so i don't know if it is or not.
Also an alternative to a computer, is getting a Bluetooth head set so when the phone rings you just turn the headset on and start chatting.
Hopes this helps

bluetooth is good... range is maybe up to 32 feet or so...
you can find cheap bluetooth deals (i got a Nokia BH200 for $0.99 after rebate, though there's no noise cancellation... if you need a good one, look for one with noise cancellation
something like it, but not quite...
if you had your bluetooth connected to the phone and the phone is in another room, you can use mymobile.. I found it through blownfuze.org which has an excellent site for finding anything for the phone... the webmaster at blownfuze.org doesn't allow anyone to just link to their page, so out of respect, i list the site and where to go...

its not difficult dude! just go to the site and download the file run it on your computer and...

[Resolved] [Q] Bluetooth Will not connect to gps on SII i777? (AOKP)

Hey all, this is my first post so if I'm doing something wrong here with posting please help me out.
I have recently flashed AOKP Build 36 onto my Samsung Galaxy S2 i777 (AT&T), and it works pretty great. It doesn't however connect to my car GPS that I hook it up to to play some tunes. I connect via bluetooth.
Heres what happens:
I go into the settings and click bluetooth. It shows me that my car stereo is there and connectable. I click it. It presses for a hot second, and then nothing happens. If I press it a few more times, it states that I have an invalid PIN to connect to it. Now I've been told that when I click on it, it should ask me for the PIN. It doesnt, it just does the above. I am brand new to ICS so perhaps I'm missing some setting somewhere.
So, on to the questions:
Is there a different place to enter the PIN before clicking on it?
Could this be a bug with the rom?
How do I fix it?
Thanks in advanced, you guys rock!
Additional info:
I got the rom from the samsung2root website. I cannot post links yet but hopefully its not to hard to find.
I have heard there are newer builds, but I am not sure they are available for my phone. The official AOKP website doesnt even list my phone as supported.
Just taking a guess here so don't crucify me if don't work have you tried changing the bluetooth settings as you're device might be on invisible check if it's disabled.

Lol, no its a good thought. I clicked on the make device discoverable button before trying to connect a few of the times, it didn't seem to help.
Alright, I figured it out. My car stereo was the issue. I had to re add my phone to the devices list. It thought with the new rom and all that it was a different phone.
Thanks anyway though guys!

[Q] Hotspot on phone won't connect to android tablet

I'm not sure where to put this so I'm going to post it here but if it's in the wrong spot please feel free to move it, Mod.
Ok, I have a Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE (downgraded to 3G, no 4G in my area) running Android 4.1.2 that I use my Hotspot internet off of. I have connected it to just about everything, computers, tablets, and other phone and it has always worked perfectly until now. I got a Visual Land Prestige Pro 7D tablet running Android 4.1.1 for Christmas and for some reason my phone's hotspot won't connect to it. It says it is connected but when I go to use the browser or any app that uses the internet it never loads or doesn't work. Sometimes the signal even drops out and reconnects but never actually works. I did some research and it sounds like it might be an IP address conflict but I am not sure how to fix it. Some sites suggest downloading another tether/hotspot app so I tried a few. Some revert back to the original hotspot setting on my phone, which of course did me no good, and some just plain did not work, they did exactly like my original hotspot, connect but won't work. I have pretty much figured out that it has something to do with my phone's hotspot since my tablet works perfectly fine on other people hotspot or wifi internet. Can someone please help me figure out what is going on?! Thanks in advance!
Are you on the stock ROM? Seems to be from your post.
You've tried using the built-in tethering feature, as well as some 3rd party software. Most of the 3rd party programs will create an 'ad-hoc' network which typically only other computers can connect to. There's some threads around here that discuss how to remedy this on stock. Search around.

Yes I'm still on the stock ROM the phone came with. I have tried the built-in and 3rd party apps and neither is working. I'm really not sure to look for. I have tried a few different things including changing the IP address in my phone hotspot settings and nothing works.

I just tried to download the ISWAT Tether Unlocker but I noticed that it is only for rooted devices, I'm not rooted, and I really don't want to root it. Any other suggestions?
A phone w/o root is less than half phone.
BTW you can try foxfy or pdanet, the latter works surely, but at the price of a client installation on the PC side, and is USB/BT only.
I haven't tested the former

I have rooted my phones before but I like this phone the way it is for right now and I just don't want to go through that long process of rooting it.
I have tried Foxfi, it connects but like the others, the browser and app never load, but I can connect to any other wifi or hotspot and they load fine. From what I have heard Foxfi and PDAnet are the same, they even have a combined app. I have done some more research and it looks like maybe my phone or tablet, which ever one, is running adhoc (?) and either one or the other can't use that. Does that sound about right?
PDAnet and foxfi, are two apps sold by the same company, but are all but the same thing.
PDAnet is a 10+ years old program, is older than android, and is an absolutely proven SW, working on multiple platforms either on server and client side.
FoXfi is a relatively new program that manages to work on a great number of devices, but that is not guaranteed to work on any device.
If foxfi doesn't work on PQ, I'm afraid there is nothing you can do w/o rooting the phone.

Install TWRP, it will automatically offer to root the device after booting to recovery and then in recovery restarting to system.
Otherwise follow this guide to install CWM / SuperSU.

Sorry for the late reply. (time zone is our enemy
BTW given arrrghhh already replied, I can only add to avoid confusion to follow the linked thread about CWM, but replacing the CWM part with TWRP.
The latter is more newbie friendly and, will root automatically the phone, and will also block the function that restore the original recovery on the first boot.

Basically you need to install the drivers and get ADB working, before doing anything else
Once you have done that step you can unlock your phone, using the instructions provided on the CWM thread, and in the related motorola website iself.
Then is flashing the TWRP is pretty easy, you just need to start your phone in fastboot mode, connect your phone the the pc, then issue the command
fastboot flash recovery twrp-something.img
(replace the last part with the real name of the file downloaded from the TWRP thread.
then reboot in recovery once (is mandatory to not reboot in system the first time) and when you will exit the recovery environment, it will ask if you want to root your phone.
That's all
This is a quick walk-trough, I hope you can understand that I can't detail every single step more, if and when you have doubts, just google a bit and ask for the definite problem you may have, here.

Can I disable Throw™ without root?

I tried to disable it via App settings, but was unable to. is there any other way? Because I suspect it interferring with my bluetooth connected moto360.
Yes you can, I wrote a post about it on the other bluetooth thread here (and also on reddit [1]). I also use an android watch (LG Urbane), and before turning off Throw, the bluetooth was super flaky, and it also failed to connect to my car.

Hey guys, sorry to re-awaken old thread... do you know if this is possible at all without root?
From the reddit link in the post before yours:
> Anyway, you don't need to root, but you'll need to get the adb tool
Now whether you can manage it is another question entirely...
Sorry, I totally posted in the wrong thread there... was meaning to post in the disabling HDCP thread lol
I had to reset my phone. New firmware and no longer able to hide using adb... This did the trick for me. I guess I have to reset again, then update firmware?
Use the bluetoth settings
You can also stop Throw from starting by just going into Bluetooth settings for the device and unchecking contacts and phone and just leaving media on.
It might work with phone on too I haven't tried but this works fine just for music on my BT speaker.
No more connecting then Throw interfering and loppong off the connection a second or two later.

Google Pixel No Sound issue

Guys, this issue has been pestering for a month now and I seem to have not found a fix for this yet. I first started to notice the problem with my phone when I was unable to attend the calls, the screen will usually get stuck or i will not be able to swipe up the green button during the call. Even if sometimes I manage to i will be able to hear the other person speak but I wont be able to speak to them. So sometimes once I restart the phone it will seem to work fine for an indefinite period of time and again it starts.
Then things started getting very bad, sometimes during normal device usage, the screen just turns to a monochrome black and white screen ( just as you see when there was no signal on older television sets). And when I switch to the bootloader screen, when I power the device on, I get a very thin green line for an instant on the screen and then the booting sequence starts.
I have made a lot of factory resets and stock image flashing, and by far I noticed one considerably situation, the times when the sound functions fine, the booting sequence where the 4 google dots animation appears and when there is no sound, the booting sequence gets stuck on Google and made by Google screen.
Other observations are during abnormal device behavior, no function related to sound will properly. To elaborate it, Google assistant wont work, videos cannot be played and even the system sounds wont be heard. I am open to suggestions here. Please let me know what can be done to test the phone out. FYI I know there is a problem with the Pixel microphone, but I am not convinced that its the exact problem. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you.
Sounds like a hardware defect. RMA if possible.
Sent from my Pixel using XDA Labs
It is a hardware issue indeed, I am facing the same issue, I contacted google , they told that replacement is possible tho I'm out of Canada at the moment so I'm just dealing with it through my Bluetooth earphones, everybody works fine with Bluetooth.
That's the only way I suppose!...did you get the phone directly from the Google store?...are they accepting phones bought from a retailer?...since I am in Singapore now...Google support is next to nothing here...try contacting them but it's of no use...only when I get to India I will be able to go forward with the replacement!.....but the thing is .... yesterday...I updated the phone to Oreo and the audio stopped working completely....and after repeated switching between safe and normal mode....the speakers are working now...but the microphone is still busted.
This happened to me, I was given a replacement phone from EE UK
Current update guys...as per the pixel support centre person's suggestion ...I rebooted the device to safe mode to check if the phone is operating normally ...which it did not....but surprisingly ...after restarting to normal mode ...it started working normally again...my query is how is this zeroed down to an hardware issue if in case it's perfectly working for a while and at some point goes bonkers...can you guys please enlighten me on this...coz I don't have much knowledge on the hardware field.

well, its been almost an hour the phone wont turn sound back on.
Keep switching it to and out of safe mode...at some point ideally at least the speakers must start lest the microphone. Tried contacting Google about it and no response at all...mine started acting weird only for the past month...I suppose from the Aug months patch update....tried reverting it back to previous stock versions...but I suppose the damage is permanently done
When I contacted google, they told me to send it back to Canada and let someone there give it to google.. which won't happen in my case , my phone also started acting like this after Oreo beta . Now I will restart the phone whenever it happens to get it back working :/
The only reason I am still sticking to this phone is coz of it's camera. Planning to get back to India around December to get this fixed. Support for pixel in Singapore now is next to nothing since it wasn't launched here. I had no problem at all with the Nexus line up but this is kind of a disappointment.

Hmmm I don't remember connecting to a laptop via Bluetooth.. you mean for file transfer ? Anyway Bluetooth has nothing to do with the sound issue we are facing, it might be your laptop Bluetooth driver needs to be updated

Sorry to hear so, I actually installed ElementalX kernel and it is less to happen. Try to flash the kernel.

Planning to do just that....I may have better luck with a custom kernel...will post an update once I have flashed it.
I had been on the 8.0 beta for a while. Then got 8.0.
Though just 2 days ago, my mic was starting to have issues. Then yesterday, only my speaker phone would work.
Now I can't get any audio/mic except though Bluetooth (I've got a portable speaker with a mic, and Bluetooth on my car.
Contacted Google support. Will be getting a replacement on their warranty.
They didn't tell me this, but I did some searching, and apparently many of the pixels (mostly from the first 3 months of production) had an issue with the soldering of the audio codec. though usage, little bumps here and there, that soldering can get loose. Which explains why my audio and mic were spotty, and within an hour yesterday morning, all aspects of it stopped working.
So, it's a hardware issue.
