Hi everyone
I'm trying to find a cheap 6" android phone with expandable storage for everyday use (I'm generally on building sites), reasonable camera, use the kindle and readly app, I'm not looking to play 3D type games (apart from soduku and reversi!)
At the moment I have a Samsung S2 i9100 running LineageOS - great little phone, but for reading, it's way too small for my poor old eyes
I've been looking at phones on ebay, and hopefully this link will keep my search options:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/b/Mobile-Sma...oid&rt=nc&Screen%20Size=6%2E0%22%20%26%20Over
Some of the phone manufacturers I've never heard of, my budget is only to £50 (not much I know) I'd want to root it, install TWRP and LineageOS.
Are there any manufacturers/models I should stay clear of?
Many thanks for any help

I'm looking for a low budget Android phone for a close friend of mine.
I was thinking of getting her a HTC Wildfire, but i wanted to hear your opinion first
The phone has to be an Android one, be compatible with as many apps on the Android market as possible (im saying that because i've heard that some apps require a specific resolution to run), and be "nice 'n' cute" looking (meaning smaller than 4.3 inch screen and be as thin as possible) and have camera with flash. GPS, Wifi and stuff like that are always welcome
PS: I would also add that i need the phone to be as flexible as possible, like flashing new roms, but this is xda... i doubt i had to include that
thanks for the reply mate. The blade does look like a great device, but i searched for the SAT score of the device and its 1.35 W/kg
also... it turns out that it has to have a camera with flash (sorry i didn't mention. had no idea lol)
The Wildfire is a good choice. Android on a budget and plenty of community support.
Hi guys i worked really hard this summer to save up for this tablet and dock. it was sweet the first week and i made sure to factory reset and just install good known apps. 3 weeks later the device is still... pretty snappy i guess. it laggs opening the app drawer with only 2 pages of apps lol. getting back to the homescreen sometimes is a pain . and i dont understand why there is not a lot of people with the device ! the nexus 7 has every dev and his grandmother making things for it. its getting really hard to justify the money i spent for it
so my question is. would you sell your tablet and dock ( lets say my dad wants to buy it off me for 600$) and you get a nexus 7 and enjoy the custom roms, gaming and community behind it ? with lots to spare? i dont use the camera on the tf700, i mostly use cloud storage so idk if i need the micro and full size sd card i bought lol. hm at the same time i dont want to regret it later. oh well ! opinions ?
If the Nexus were 10", I'd consider it. As is, absolutely not. I've tried a 7" tablet before, and they're just too small to do anything productive on them. They're great pocket web browsers, but at that point I feel like I could just whip out my phone and as such dont see much of a point.
Roms WILL come for the Infinity. Its still a rather new device, the Nexus has the advantage of full source being available for it from day 1. Most non-nexus devices have only kernel source available, so it takes a while for devs to figure things out. Once one AOSP ROM drops, development should pick up really fast.
I'd never consider having a 7" tablet instead of a 10" tablet or the Infinity specifically, especially with the dock. This is more of a netbook (but not laptop) vs Infinity thing for me.
I'll definitely consider getting a 7" tablet as an addition to it, however, for note-taking on the go and such, but when there's a solid 7" tablet with SD card slot, 3G, good (and fast-charging) battery with reasonable CPU/GPU/SoC and JB out... pretty demanding, so I'm still waiting, 3G seems to be the biggest problem in these.

+1 for a 10" over a 7". I have to say I have a sorry long history with the various tablets, going back to the very first Android Tabs. I have had the full range of Asus devices, spent months testing the Xoom and the Galaxy 10.1 for VZW, the ViewSonic gTablet, all the way back to the Augen Gentouch and the Velocity Cruz. For me, 7" is a great e-reader and that is about it. I am very hard-pressed to come up with anything that it is useful for besides reading a book that I can't do faster and easier with either my phone or my tablet depending on the need.
I just don't see the value in it. Borrow a 7" and try to take notes, it really doesn't work nearly as well as you would hope. Then do it on a 10" and see the difference.
Good luck!
this is a subjective question to be answered by ones own needs
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app
No SD slot on Nexus, thats why I got a tf700 in the first place.
I was really tempted initially when I found out how few apps there are supported. But measured side by side its main competitor in my mind the ipad 3, the infinity just has so much more functionality I'm willing to wait for the app support. :victory:
I waited forever to get the Infinity so I definitely have patience for more development.
Trade for cash
Heck ya baby...
Bucks talk hardware walks!
I'd say no. If you REALLY want a device with lots of devs behind it and ability to customize it, go for something like the samsung galaxy tab 10 (or the tab 2.0 but thats reather expensive)
The reason i say the tab 10 is because:
10" tablet
Sources are available
Odin is provided BY SAMSUNG to make CUSTOM ROMS, how much easier can they make it?
LOTS of cooks making custom versions of android
Its been out for ages meaning there is a developed community behind it
In my area anyways they were given away like fruitcake, Buy a cell phone get a tab, buy a PVR get a tab, buy a car get a tab, go to school get a tab, etc. so the market is saturated
Tab 2.0 drives down the price of the tab 10, you can get them used for like, $200 in my area
Dual core, powerful enough to run pretty much anything on the market. VERY few apps take advantage of quad core
If you want to get a solid 10" tablet and not pay big money this is the one i would go with. Its not top of the line, its not as flashy, it doesnt have as many features as the prime but it IS a solid tablet that will do what you want with the customization you want while leaving LOTS of extra money in your pocket.
If there would have been any valid rumours about Nexus 10" tablets I wouldn't have even considered getting another tablet. Same goes for phones now. My SGS3 will be the last branded phone. I want to go to Google all the way. Just so tired of companies putting their "own value" to the product and making updates slow and actually most of the extra is just annoying. Thank god Asus didn't make that much changes, only some useless apps which can't get rid off without rooting. But still updates are slower than with Google's Nexus. And Asus is the best of the rest.

Samsung is bad for updates, i agree, however because we get all the sources it is pretty quick before you get AOSP versions that are up to date with google, at least thats the way it is with my S2.
hey boy i know you spend a good amount of money to get the infinity but your comparing it to the nexus 7 which is a 7" device with almost no features with cheapness ooozing all over it . It's like buying a bmw and you want to trade it for a honda civic!!!!! .
Sure it will have more developer because it came out first plus its a google nexus reference design what do you expect. Wait another month and you'll see that there will be a lot of developer for this device.
Why so many useless thread concerning this type of question eg: should i trade my infinity? , what color do you like? , should i get the 32gb? Why not get yourself a brain so you can make a decision.
VOTING SORRY IT WAS MISLEADING ( VOTE YES! FOR HELPFUL) ( VOTE NO! FOR USELESS )
First of all Not sure if this is where it should be i thought putting this in off topic was too far from the point and reading through other threads it didn't seem to fit anywhere, Anyway i'll post it here anyway i would like to think most people on this website would appreciate this and see if i have to valid points and some cool things to show you maybe.
I would firstly like to start with some cool Android game consoles being developed by a company called JXD http://www.jxd.hk/ they're other companies doing this (not as good and more expensive) in my opinion but i'll supply information for you do to your own researched at the bottom of this thread.
Anyway This is the newest console released the S7300 just released a day ago it's quite amazing system and extremely cheap ( older models if you have a budget to test these out starting as low as $20 - $40 USD) This latest one is about $150 it's android the specs are listed here
As you can see the device has possibility for some good gaming and a start to some innovative ideas and maybe bigger companies creating devices similar to this.
What is the point?
Well i was a huge user of my Xperia play and Galaxy s3 which i recently sold for a Android iphone 5 rip off mainly because it looked good worked great and was light enough to go jogging without it annoying me, but this gave me a lack of gaming which i love about my android mobile so i decided to look for an android gaming device it took an hour or so but i found hundreds some on ebay some on random websites, after separating the over priced devices and the ones with poor design and bad hardware i found a website or 2 with the device i was going to purchase, and after looking all day i found there is a good start to this android gaming, but how come it hasn't set off bigger or faster yet, i find it a shame.
What to do?
Well many may disagree but this is the only website i use for anything remotely android related, but i was thinking if XDA could add apart of the forum for unpopular devices such as these underground branded ( Non rip off android devices and the emerging gaming android console and devices ) to increase the speed it picks up i believe if we have people talking about it more and helping sharing in customized apps themes etc... it might help set off the community to use it more which may encourage developers to add more support.
I mean Why Not! we have tablets but everything seems to be big brands Sony, Samsung, Apple, Nokia, i thought this was a website for unlocking your device for better use and doing things with it the majority of us think is "Cool".
I might add more later But for now i'll leave some links to a few devices i looked through and website to purchase or compare prices for your curiosity.
Developer jxe website all their devices are listed there but no purchasing options but good to get the names to Google
Another product i thought would be good to mention just for the hell of it if you go jogging like me or like high quality sound with less wires and cheap at the same time would be to purchase a MW600 it's a Bluetooth headset and you just plug your headphone into it and it connects wirelessly to you phone.
http://www.willgoo.com/ - This website seems to sell any modded gaming android devices from all the companys making them at the moment at the cheapest price and a vast collection to choose from.
The latest device out is http://www.willgoo.com/jxd-s7300-du...ons-8gb-p-306.html?referrer=CNWR_771331638507
Reason i liked this among the rest?
for one the touch screen isn't the out dated touch resistant most others use.
First to have an actual dual analog joysticks! and not like the xperia play with the stupid touch slide which i found tedious after a day of use.
2 back buttons and simple nice thin design.
highest resolution offered.
and does say it has 3G i don't know if it's via a sim card or it means through wifi tethering with another device who knows but i'm happy either way

Unmarked android phones.
I'll list a few android phones i think are semi decent and can be cheap and stilll good looking on a budget here is the top 2 websites i trust and can be cheap if you search well
eForChina and Dhgate
These 2 websites have plenty mobile phones people could check out at a cheap price, the one i purchased because i wanted a decent phone that runs android but looks like an iphone 5 is zophone 5
It's a little more steep in price than the others but i managed to get it for £120 off ebay but its light and does what i need it to do.
Done more research the website most china branded (unbranded) mobiles are released to http://android-sale.com/
this website's most famous brand seems to be the goophone for the iphone 5 android clones but they also make some really good unique none clone designs packing quad core 2gb ram models, would be good if you're looking for some unique designed phone you won't see any friends using.
That thing looks slick. Will do more research.
Yeah it would be nice to see games compatible

It has a dual core mali 400, and a dual core a9 clocked at 1.5, it should run most games other mali 400 devices run. I pre ordered one and now waiting for it. I hope it gets popular enough to have a community and a few custom rom builds. It has quite decent specs for emulation(main purpose its being promoted for) and should run almost every game on the android market. The main issue with JDX devices is battery life (is why I hope for custom roms), but the device claims to come pre rooted, you can see pictures of it supposedly having play store support, so if a community does surge for it it could be as popular as the kindle in terms of a dedicated community interested in custom android builds that support better battery use and remove some of its bloatware. im replacing the free 8g card ill get for pre ordering with a 32(64 if it takes it) card and have a decent 40gig snes/ps1 emulation device with touch controls that will let me do the basic things i do on my phone. Since i plan to tether it from my phone, I'm aiming to keep my phone pocketed the whole time, Headset calls, redirect texts to the JXD, and play/browse on the 7 inch screen so if a call comes in my gaming wont be interrupted something that ruins some games that reboot when a call comes in.
Maybe Padone 2 ? over 7k mAh, four core etc... Nothing but fine gaming devices with possibilities
They should make a special section in the forum for JXD Devices. Especially for developers that wants to help with making the device easier to use.

Hi Guys,
So I am looking at a new tablet to replace my trusted Nexus 7 car headunit infotainment system. I know there are a few threads, but this one is different due to the requirements.... Also, as I dont really have the money to go buying from the big 6 (Samsung, Sony, Lenovo etc etc) I am considering those which are not big names.
So I am looking for a budget device, preferably £75 or less, must have GPS, and preferably would have 3G/4G. I have seen a few on ebay, inclusive of "AllWinner" and a few others such as "ExcelVan" or "Teclast p70". or "XGody". Looking for 7inch Phablet, brings up a few options, but just not sure what to go with! Ideally I would prefer to use the later OS's, the idea of using 5.1 over 4.4 appeals more, but I dont know if really that is the best call, and if I would be gaining or losing anything particularly by choosing this.
I am looking for something faster with the same sort of specs, but preferably with 2GB RAM, or something which can be overclocked to exceed the Nexus 7 2012, not too bothered about HD or Camera or stuff like that....
I think I am pushing my luck a little, as I dont think such a thing exists really, other than the "Swipe Slate 8" which I cant find in the UK, and that has a slightly larger screen.... I also know the chinese units dont tend to get as much love on the Custom ROM front as the big names, but I just dont have the money to buy the big names, and really I want something relatively modern (last 2-3 years or so) with equal specs....
I just dont know if these allwinner 23 / 33 processors are any good....
If anyone has any idea's I would gratefully receive them! Alternatively, if you can suggest some other 2GB tablets in the budget category, I would appreciate it!
So, full disclosure, almost buying a Nexus 5, if it pans out.
$40CAN, supposedly as new, in the box, case, etc...
I'm posting here instead of in the stickies, because my questions are pretty varied and didn't want to flood the forum with newbie stuff --- but I really only want to buy this guy IF you guys can help me make this a good phone for me.
Reason for buying
1- Price
2- Hardware (cpu, ram, screen size, gyro, bottom speakers
Concern
1- Battery (I "do" see it's a relatively easy diy battery replacement for $25 - but lots of reviews that the Amazon ones suck
2- 16GB Storage - I'm not a heavy gamer or photo taker, but might like that to change going from a Flipphone to one of these. But, No SD slot. I see there's OTG USB, "but" there's NO INFO if you can PLAY GAMES FROM USB drive or just watch movies, etc...
3- Rom, again with 16 total gb, I'd want a LITE Rom. I mainly need solid Youtube, Websearch and Messenger (FB). That's about it. Especially Youtube. Being able to cast to my Samsung Smart TV would be a Giant bonus. I'm using things like Facebook Lite, Messenger Lite, on my SSD PC computer. I briefly had Oreo Mobile or something like that on a short lived phone (I liked the small space requirement, and low resource usage.)
ANYWAY, CAN FOLKS HELP ME? I'm LOST ! I can do the required stuff to the phone I'm sure, I just need to be pointed in the right directions.
What Roms, How to Flash a Rom safely onto this.
How to Root. Can I remove things I don't want, like remove Facebook to install Lite, etc... (if I do that, do I need a new rom?)
Are Amazon $20 Batteries with tool kit good lasting batteries?
Can I play Games straight from a USB device? and if so, How?
This would be a NEXUS 5, 16GB Android 6 model
Please Flood me with your expertize ! Haha
Thanks in advance, and sorry for newbbing out on you'all.
Merry Christmas
