Verizon Galaxy S6 G920V lost LTE and ability to edit APN - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all and thank you for your time,
I recently updated my Verizon GS6 from Lollipop to Nougat using the Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant because the update wouldn't occur using the phone's update software feature. Since updating I've lost the ability to use the LTE network by any means at all. I have no data whatsoever, as the APN settings have been altered through this update. I am registered to Straight Talk Wireless and the phone is trying to connect to Verizon using a generic APN. I'd love to change the APN setting but the phone will not allow me to edit anything but the name of the APN. Adding or editing further is completely colored out.
So far I've tried:
1. Soft resets
2. Hard resets
3. Wiping the cache
4. Swapping SIMS of all 4 networks
5. Turning Wi-Fi on and off Turning Mobile data on and off
6. Searching all throughout the internet for answers
So if no one has the answer how to fix this situation is it possible to reverse my update and head back to Lollipop? Is it possible to root the phone to somehow access the APN settings by other means?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need to use data for my job.
Thanks!

[Q] Modifying APNs with 4.4.2 (NE1)

Hello,
I've been putting off asking the question as I thought that somebody else had to have gone through this already but I've had poor luck looking through the forum and Google hasn't been able to help.
I'll be traveling to Italy in the near future with my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 (Build KOT49H.I535VRUDNE1). I would like to pick up a TIN or WIND SIM while I'm there, primarily for data usage. From what I've read, once I install the 3rd party SIM, I'll need to update the APN settings to get data to work.
Stock, it looks like the APN settings are uneditable. I rooted the phone with towelroot (if only everything were so easy) and then checked the APN settings to see if I could add another network. No dice.
Poking around on the web, it looks like in the past, people have been able to work around this by downloading build prop editor and adding the following two lines:
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
I gave this a shot and was surprised to see the APN menu gone when I went back into my network settings. Through trial and error, I determined that the inclusion of ro.csc.sale_code=LOL changes my Mobile Networks options from:
- Mobile Data
- Global Data Roaming Access
- Roaming
- Signal Strength
- Network Mode
- Access Point Names
- Network Operators
to:
- Mobile Data
- Data Roaming
- Network Mode (GSM is not an option in here)
- System Select
- Dial Up Networking
There is no option to modify APN settings there. Am I missing something silly? Did something change in KitKat 4.4.2 that has caused this approach to "unlocking" the APN settings to become invalid? Is everything really ok and I'll have access to the APN settings when I insert the italian carrier's SIM card?
I'm game for other approaches as well. At one point, I thought I saw an article that talked about setting up a pointer to the APN settings prior to updating the prop file but I haven't been able to relocate that.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Aaron
In the event somebody else is looking for the answer, I got my hands on a TIM sim card today, installed it in the phone and the APN menu reappeared and let me enter a new APN. Looks like the answer as of today for this phone is TowelRoot, SuperSU, BuildProp and install the 3rd party sim.
Take care,
Aaron

Cannot connect to sprint network after resetting APN to default

Long story short, I reset some of my APN settings to default while running Dirty Unicorns, I could connect to data but couldn't text/call. I've now flashed my phone to stock and performed a factory reset but no luck. I also took my phone into Sprint and they were unsuccessful. They told me I could upgrade or pay $75, I don't want to do either so I'm really hoping someone knows a solution!
Some things:
1) If I look in my phone identity information, the MIN and phone number say unknown
2) Data doesn't work at all now
3) If I change to CDMA only then it simply shows not connected to any network.

Help request: LTE Data works,"no service" otherwise. IMEI/number, but no texts/calls.

Help request: LTE Data works,"no service" otherwise. IMEI/number, but no texts/calls.
Software: Android 5.0.1 Skydragon M8 v2.0 Sense 7
Many people have posted issues with LTE where their cellular signal was fine for "2G" functions like calls and texts.
I'm having the opposite problem. After leaving airplane mode (landing at an airport today), I have a "No Service" message in the status bar drop down (notification tray), and the Settings>Network information page shows "Not Registered." However, I do have an IMEI (see details below). However, LTE data works perfectly fine.
I've obviously tried changing the settings in Settings>Mobile Data (preferred network to Global / LTE / LTE/legacy 3GPP mode) connection type global/auto/LTE/etc), to no avail. If LTE is connected it works flawlessly, but I cannot make calls or texts, and show not registered on the network. Data roaming is set to deny, but even allowing roaming does not change the situation.
Before this happened, I HAD gone through all the XTended Settings, and even 'looked' at (but did NOT change) some advanced settings pages, including the 'hidden' HTC network info page ( *#*#4636#*#* ). Again, however, I didn't change anything -- unless by accident?!
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Anyone know if I may have inadvertently changed something and can change it back (a setting that would persist in the hardware through NANDROID restores and factory resets...). Or, any other advice to restore the cellular service connection to normal?
I've tried a full NANDROID restore (multiple times) to a working copy, and a factory reset. I have limited access to a PC since I'm traveling, so re-flashing the VZW firmware or stock recovery or lollipop/verizon RUU would be challenging.
I did spend a good 45 minutes (at a library, my only PC access!) searching the forums and web, but to no avail.
Settings information:
OPperator Name: Verizon
Signal Strength -114 (I've had better but still have the same issues)
Mobile Network type: LTE
Service state: In service
IMS service state: Not Registered
Roaming: Not Roaming
Phone Identity page:
IMEI shows up (15-digit number...how can I verify I didn't mess this up?)
Phone Number is correct
IP Address: 100.66..... (looks good)
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Same here
I'm having the same issue. When i try to make a call my LTE bars drop to nothing and it says call failed no network available. Any ideas or help would be nice. I was using venom rom as well. I'm currently trying to flash the newest RRU to see if that resets things. I'm wondering if it somehow my sim card. I took it from my droid turbo. I've made sure to turn off advanced calling on my VZW account though.

I had this same issue, running from ruu then rooted. I didn't noticed until I started seeing voice mail notifications but never heard the phone ring. When I tried to dial out I got the immediate call lost message. I couldn't figure what was causing it so I just did a reset. I made sure not to restore any systems data from prior to the Lollipop upgrade. At this point everything is working, the only thing I haven't installed yet is the xposed framework and sense 6 toolbox.

What kind of reset did you do? I know my issue is slightly different, but I did a full RUU-flash yesterday (latest lollipop version) and still no luck. Unfortunately I'm out of the country now and access to a computer is limited, and I don't even have a SIM card yet to check if cellular service would work anyway.
I do intend to do a flash of the stock recovery and radios once I have the time and access, but that may be a while...
Still, I'll keep checking this thread to see if anyone posts any other options

Just go into settings and to Backup & Reset , this will return your phone to a fresh install and remove all non bundled apps.
Before doing the reset try going into Settings then Call then change Preferred Network to Global, or toggle from LTE then back to Global.

How to get Hotspot and APN settings without root or mods

I bought a sprint N920P for use in Canada. It was sold unlocked but I discovered I couldn't turn on Hotspot or change the APN. After doing some research, I found that flashing the XAS firmware I can enable the hidden settings. I can still receive OTA and Knox is not tripped. The device is unrooted. Samsung Pay is functional. Link to firmware is here. It will wipe everything so backup first!

To get hotspot settings, download Samsung good lock. This will unlock the hidden hotspot settings. You can find good lock in the galaxy apps store and the hotspot toggle in the good lock pull down menu. Long press the hotspot toggle to access hohot settings.
To make sure the new firmware works, check if the firmware wiped your phone. If the phone boots up in the factory reset state, then you're good. If it doesn't try again.
I wouldn't say this is a for sure way. True test after you flash this firmware is to have Sprint Service. Whatever firnware you have, once you pop another SIM into the Sprint Note, 5 the APNS become editable. I popped in a T Mobile SIM and I was able to edit the T Mobile APN.

Do devices connect tho? I have the same unlocked SM-N920P on a Canadian carrier, but when I try to connect a device to the hotspot, it doesn't work.

I flashed the firmware that you included in the link, and I after installing I still cant find the hotspot option in the settings menu. Do you mind going a little further in depth in how you activated the hotspot?

As I suspected this does not work. He is able to edit the APN because he is on another carrier and not Sprint. Flashing firmware doesn't do anything.
He said he wiped the phone to factory state after he flsshed the firmware. Did you do that?

I'm not using sprint either, I have a sprint note 5 but running on Fido network in Canada. I'm hesitant to wipe my phone as the method may not even work. Maybe if OP responds, he can explain how he is able to enable hotspot.
I can access APN settings fine, but the hotspot function is non-existent in settings.

There is another thread he posted in - he just said that he did a factory reset. Did you do that? Anyone can access APN but not be able to edit the hotspot settings. I could do that on a stock Sprint Note 5. Sprint just greys out certain parts.

So after downloading Good Lock from the Samsung store hotspot menu seems to popup, but I'm having trouble actually having devices connect to my note 5. The wifi connection is seen, but the farthest I can go is "obtaining Ip address". Does anyone know how to solve this?

Well after a factory reset, nothing. Hotspot isn't available in the settings menu. :crying:

Looks like you have to download Good Lock. Let me know if this works. Didn't work for me on Sprint.

You have to install samsung good lock. It's available in the galaxy apps store. Read my OP for more info.
Try on different devices. Does computer work? Does its work? If they all don't work check your mobile data settings, apn settings and Hotspot settings.
So far this is not working for anyone one than the OP. I am considering this a non fix. If someone who has a Sprint phone is able to use Sprint service AND can edit APN that is a fix. Taking a Sprint phone and popping in a SIM from another carrier and being able to edit APN is not a fix but pretty common. Again I took a T Mobile SIM and popped into my Sprint phone and voila I am able to edit T Mobile's APN - because apparently T Mobile does not block access to edit APNs but Sprint DOES. I'm glad this worked for you Justinxfan - here's hoping for a true fix for the rest of us!
hey,
I want to buy a Sprint Note5 from ebay.
I'm going to use it on koodo in Canada
If I dont have access to apn settings does that mean I cannot use data on it?

You can use data just fine, it's just that the hotspot functionality is blocked on the sprint note 5.

If you reboot the phone, upon boot, immediately go into enable hotspot, it will work until you reboot again. I've done this on several road trips with the kids and the unlimited plan comes in handy with three streaming youtube or netflix.

Can't turn on data using the Verizon G5 on AT&T?

I just bought a used Verizon LG G5 (VS987), however my carrier is AT&T. After putting in the Sim card, calling and texting works but when I go to turn on mobile data in the settings, I get a popup that says "Add Mobile Service Please contact Customer Service at (800) 922-0204 for assistance."
I have called both that customer service number for Verizon ^ and also AT&T. I made sure that my IMEI was updated on our AT&T plan, and I have the right APN settings put in. When I called Verizon, the guy didn't really have much to say except that the device is unlocked but full access to features can't be guaranteed, and I am aware that Verizon and AT&T use different wireless bands, which he explained, but I should be able to at least have some kind of data. We both agreed that this is just some piece of Verizon software keeping me from using data, and he suggested rooting the phone to get a workaround.
One suggestion that I saw in some forums and tried was that resetting the network settings in Backup and Reset does turn mobile data on by default, however I get the same Verizon popup as soon as I open any browser, and other apps just say there is no connection, although when I do this I can see that I am getting either HSPA or 4G data, it just seems like it's being blocked by this Verizon stuff. Messing around with other setttings such as Data roaming and System select didn't change anything.
Does anyone have any experience using a Verizon G5 on AT&T? I saw a video of someone demoing T-Mobile 4G data on the Verizon model, and another user on XDA said that he put in his T-Mobile sim and it worked perfectly. My best guess on where to go from here is to unlock and root, and see if I can install a custom rom to get around this. Does anyone know if there is a stock LG rom without all of the Verizon bloatware installed, maybe a stock rom for the unlocked model of the G5? Any suggestions on how to get this to work are appreciated, and I think this is posted in the right place, I'm an active reader on XDA but this is one of my first posts
Thanks to anyone that reads all of this!
Update: I reset the phone to factory settings and set it up with the sim card from AT&T in it. Since then I can turn on mobile data, and the notification bar shows I have data (mostly HSPA), however I have no connection when I try to load a webpage. Tomorrow morning i'll stop by the AT&T store and see if there's anything they can do.

Did you add the correct APNs for AT&T in the phone when you put in your sim? you need it for internet and MMS
Did you which it to Gobal or other option that is not LTE/CDMA?
Same problem here

Was your problem solved? I'm having the same problem with another Verizon LG Device. If it was solved, what did you do?
