It's alright, looses about 1.4% per hour when not plugged in over night. Might improve when more tasks are disabled. This is running without powersaving mode on.

I'm facing the exact situation, around 1.4% per hour when on standby.
Is it normal? I just came from a 3 year iPhone usage and was not used to this kind of battery consumption levels.

Personally, I think it could be better. All my android phones have been rooted and when I use and ASOP rom that is never (Android 7 or 8) they are usually really good at standby with Doze and all. Was getting about 0.3-0.8% percent on my MI MAX running Oreo ASOP rom.
I think that samsungs skin is quite heavy and it's got a lot of processes that are going on in the background that is preventing the phone to doze properly.
I mean I found a debloat list of 250 apps that can be disabled on the S8+ so...I feel that there are a few apps that could be disabled as well on the s9+ since the samsung experience 9 between s8+ and s9+ aren't that far off.

After I charged 100% it was closed with WiFi connection open. I checked the phone after 3h and a half and was 99% battery left. In this case under 0.33%/hour in idle

Started at 31% and got up and was 27% say with it being not used for 7 1/2 hours give or take a little.

US unlocked s9+ on TMobile; excellent standby. It takes only 2 to 3% charge at 7/8 hrs sleep.

I was facing the same issues, but I disabled some options, mostly related with sensors usage and those who are always searching for WiFi, devices, etc.
Right now the consumption has improved a lot with all those disabled, and this is my consumption right now:

For me the big improve was to disable the Wi-Fi option to enable/disable automatically, disabled the look up of devices and awake the device with the palm.
It seems these settings are using the sensors and other services constantly, so they drain battery a lot.
Try to see if those make a change for you.
Also take in mind that battery life the first 3-4 days is horrible.

Same here, came from mate 10 pro, so battery is weak on samsung anyway i better carry powerbank with me instead on having half working OS from huawei.
Edited. Ok and here is my battery drain over 5 hours of idle. (Sorry, I don't sleep much)
Wasn't able to post screenshots in edited post
I don't have a SS because it didn't even have battery data yet. I got home last night. Set my S9+ up. I always start fresh. Go in manually and download apps, log in to sits, add PWs etc. Started set up, including latest TMO update at around 55% out of the box. Ended up at 28% when I went to bed. Set the phone down, 7 hours later it was at 27%. I hope that's a good sign of things to come!
I haven't charged mine at night so far to test standby drain at different battery levels (so no 100% cheating) and I'm averaging 0.4% / hour. SD845 model
Edit:
I have GPS high accuracy on, wifi always on, Google Assistant always on, and no always on display.
On both my Note 8 and S9+, i realized Google Play Services frequently consumes a lot of battery, even up to 30%. Then I tried to switch to Google Play Services Beta and ultimately it no longer eats. Worth trying

3% per 8 hours. (US unlocked s9+)
After giving the phone a few days to settle in, I charge it fully before bed, then let it sit for 9 hours. Only lost 5%. With AOD on, lost 11% after about 8 1/2 hours. By far the best standby performance I've ever seen on a phone.
I'm losing about 1% every 10 minutes! If I use the phone its about 1% every couple of minutes. The battery life on mine is ****e.

So far, I've never had a phone handle standby so well. I will routinely leave my phone with 50 or 75% at night instead of plugging it in, and it will pretty much have that in the morning. Maybe it loses 1% per hour on standby?

Dude, I swear, just by my posting the 5 star rating, my phone started hemorrhaging battery. From 10:30pm to 7:30am, I lost about 15%+ last night. Doing some looking around, it's my cell standby, and it now looks like my wifi calling setup isn't working. (I'm on Mint Sim, a T-Mobile MVNO). So I think that's the culprit. I'll keep investigating and you know. Dammit.

Now such problems, not drain so much overnight
Okay, I think I might have a fix. It's possible this is a placebo effect, but I executed these commands, and last night my phone only lost 12% over 8 hours (which I think is pretty good)
This requires you to have ADB running already. I won't get into that because you find instructions elsewhere.
* Run "adb devices" to make sure you can see yours
* Run "adb shell dumpsys deviceidle enabled". Hopefully the output is 1. I didn't check this before I did the next command
* Run "adb shell dumpsys deviceidle enable all"
* Now if you re-run "adb shell dumpsys deviceidle enabled", you should see 1. If you saw a 0 before, it should now be one.
From reading elsewhere, this is a way to enable the "doze" feature of Android. It's possible that for some of us, it got disabled along the way? Who knows. But so far, I've been impressed with my 2 days after running this.
Look what kind of apps are killing your battery during the night, i test the phone with the wifi active and i lost 3% during the night, the next day some how i lost 15% and i saw the bluemail app drain even with airplane mode
I've had my Moto G5 Plus loose 20% overnight and i have had it loose 5% overnight, it does what it wants.
With stock rom I had 2-3% per night, on Darkness Redefined it is 1-2%.
Bone stock I lose 2-3% overnight.. same as above.

It happened tonight, from 78% to 54 in airplane mode with wifi off.
It was google fault standing to battery graphic, I killed google and the problem was solved.
Usually in idle I loose 1-2% of battery in airplane mode with wifi off.
With airplane mode off and wifi on it's 5-6% in the worst case scenario.

Out and about (LTE/cell service only) - 13%/hour
At home on Wifi - 6-7%/hour
21h with 4h screen on, 40% left
With what I would consider light usage (email, web browsing, messaging, lots of YouTube) I have really been impressed with the battery life! Over 8hrs screen on time with my first few cycles so far. Based on this, I'm guessing that even with heavier usage (games, etc.) that I would still be pretty happy with the longevity. With very similar usage I was getting around 4-5hrs SOT on my original Pixel XL and was happy with it. Interested to hear how the battery has been for others as well.
I've been very happy. Last night I forgot to charge so I woke up with 48% battery. I plugged in for 25 minutes while getting ready for work. Left the house with 87%. Now, 9 hours later, I have had 2 hours screen on time of mixed wifi/LTE, browsing, email, Facebook, texting, a few pictures and a little YouTube. 20% brightness. Location set to high accuracy, Now Playing turned on, AOD off, Google account sync on. I am at 65%. That's a drain of 22%. Under the same conditions and usage my Nexus 5X would have drained over 40%.
This is the first smartphone I've had (I've had a Nexus One, Galaxy SII, Nexus 5, Nexus 5X and now Pixel 2 XL) that I can say that the battery life is GREAT.

This phone is ridiculous. I haven't charged it since Monday...
I won't pretend I'm a "heavy usage" person with my phone. But I've never been able to get 2 full days of usage from any of my previous phones. Most of them barely lasted 24 hours. This one is going to reach 48+ hours, easy.
I work from home full time so I'm connected to my home wifi almost all the time, which helps. I get out of the house a total of 2-3 hours a day to walk the dog, go to the gym, or meet clients for lunch. So during that time it's on full LTE with no wifi. I tend to use the phone for 2-3 client calls per day (30-60 minutes each while paired with my bluetooth headphones), listening to music at the gym (~60 minutes while paired with my bluetooth headphones), some light usage of social networking apps and Youtube videos throughout the day.
I know battery life consists of a large amount of factors but it's safe to say that with the same usage, this phone outlasts all my previous phones by at least 1.5x. It's fantastic.
Battery life sucks now compared to pre-February security patch.
Light endurance usage: 15% brightness w/auto brightness off just browsing, Facebook and a little texting on wifi. That's no games, Bluetooth off, Location on high accuracy but not doing much (ie no Maps navigation), no video, no music, no camera, no phone calls etc.
Pre February security update:
Screen on: ~10%/hr
Stand by: ~0.3333%/hr
Best battery life: 9 hours SOT over 1 day, 16 hours off the charger
Now (after February and March security updates):
Screen on: ~15%/hr
Stand by: ~0.5%/hr
Best battery life: 6 hours SOT over 1 day off the charger
Stand by battery drain up like 60% and SOT battery drain up like 50%. Very disappointing for a phone that is only 5 months old. If I break it down to a per mAh it's now no better than my Nexus 5X.
After first charge I am getting 2%/h standby drain, hope things will improve

What is the battery consumption e.g. with PowerAMP (or similar players) and listening to music for several hours like in battery % ?

Not me. I stream my music and play over Bluetooth. But for reference, the Nexus 6P was rated at 100 hours. So I doubt the Pixel 2 XL would be any worse.

I listen to music offline. For the first several months of having the phone I could play over Bluetooth and I'd use about 7% per hour. Playing over a wired connection used 4% per hour. Now it's like 8% per hour over a wired connection and 12% per hour over Bluetooth. Damn monthly updates.

Compared to what it was for the 1st 3 months, yeah, that's bad. Maybe he never experienced how good battery life was before several of the updates so he doesn't really have a basis for comparison. Like I said, with the same time off the charger and screen on time I have about the same 20% battery left as well but for the first few months that same off the charger and screen on time left me with about 50% left. Draining almost 30% battery for the same use just a few months later is a big deal. Oh, and that's after trying a factory reset which at first (about a half a day) seemed like it helped but quickly showed that it didn't help at all.
What you were getting for the first three months was remarkable for sure but wasn't what everyone gets. Like a lot of things battery life has a bell curve and you were just on the extreme right of it. Now you're "only" getting what the majority, middle part of the bell is getting and unhappy with it. Still doesn't mean it's bad. Now it's just average.

Playing movies and stuff will get a lot more out as well, screen is a battery sipper. CPU is a bit intense so turn on the "Medium power savings" option to down the cpu to 70%, you'll get SD845 performance which is still good, and a solid bit more battery too!
The new exynos might be faster than the S845 on paper but YouTube speed tests put them neck and neck on a good day.
https://youtu.be/yk2Nysa82ig
If performance needs to be lowered then the battery is too small.

Is it very slight? I'm trying to go slowly from lowest to highest brightness and can't see it, maybe a sliiiight purple but mostly white..It stays white.. I'm comparing to an iPhone and the screen is a bit different in color temperature but not extremely purple or anything.

Very poor battery life
Samsung Galaxy S10E is javing very very poor battery life.
I got this device two days back. I charged it to 100% and started listening songs on Gaana.
Battery drained from 94% to 4% in 6 hours.
Gaan used 69% of battery in this time period. I diddo anything else other than listening to songs. I had LG G7 Thinq earlier. That phone used go drain max 30-40% durinf this period despite having lesser battery.
I am utterly disappointed with battery life.
Also, can anybody guide me on how to add screenshot here?
I have the SD version. My first full day of use (noting that it will take time to "settle") was pretty good! It was off the charger 3am-10pm. I plugged it back in when it hit 6%. Managed to reach 5H10M SOT, which wasn't bad - it also included 1.5 hours of gaming (Langrisser, which drains battery), Chrome, Reddit, Hangouts, etc.
Since then I have enabled Medium power savings mode and am hoping for slightly improved battery life and SOT as a result today. I already use dark theme and keep brightness around 30%. I also installed Naptime today which I hope will help further improve battery.
5 hours SOT at 15%-20%, but I have to turn on power saving when I'm at 30%-40%, battery life is not impressive it's just ok.
I feel standby time sucks a little bit, yesterday I was losing like 1% every 30 min with power saving on.
P.s.: I have one UI without any launcher and just time/temperature, notes and google calwndar widget in my home screen.
2nd p.s.: I have noticed that the s10e handles well with apps that are power consuming like Maps, Waze or Youtube.
Battery has been pretty good on my end.
You guys decide, bought the phone last week:
using Nova, bixby routine to control autosync and other components, animation x.5, night theme on ,goodlock real black notification panel with blur effect cancelled and disabled Facebook services.
P.S using exynos, s10e
Battery life is a joke on mine, maximum SOT I would get is 3 hours and my use is not even heavy, mostly on instagram and snapchat.
Night mode on
Nova
Goodlock
Bixby off
Google assistant hot word is off as well, I thought it has a hit on battery but it doesn't.
Battery usage is useless as well, it does not show what drains the battery, well it shows "Android system" as the second one after "Screen".
Thinking of getting the s10e exynos;can someone share battery usage while gaming or using navigation?
Pretty decent battery life considering the battery size. This is worth a mix of both LTE and Wifi. A typical working day.
s10e snapdragon (g9700), 20% left, 6h SoT and 24h with normal use (social networks, spotify, etc) over wifi and LTE, performance mode. Phone's still learning usage to improve battery life. It's first charge, hope to reach 7h SoT. Google app disabled btw
EDIT: added last screenshot, with 7h16min and 28h of use.
Brand new sm-g9700 s10e model.
Did a charge to 100%, and this is the result after 1st charge.
6hrs sot
39% battery left
Sensational. I'll try for 7 hrs.
Fantastic.
Made it 7hrs sot with 32% battery remaining.
Could crack 8hrs if I want to , but leave that for another time.

Everything default. (Feb software)
I have updated to the latest software update(March) yesterday.
Will post results soon, but early results suggest the processor is very fast, and battery consumption is a tad higher.
We will see.
All was so good,
I was able to hold 2 days with my use (it was incredible, with my s10 I held 24h).
And, then, last update...
And now, in one night of sleep 25-30% of drain ??? Oo
What is that Samsung ? Are you aware like u destroy ur product with this... especially when you advertise about the terrific battery life of the s10 plus ?

I had my S10+ that ever had bad battery life, my s21+ looks like is much better, having 25% of drain in standby means there is an app that is causing that, when you talk about your last update, you should explain which version of firmware do you have now.
My T-Mo USA S21+ gets really great battery life. No change with the latest (AUAG) USA firmware. My S10 got very good battery life (24 Hrs +) but the S21+ (so far) gives me 2 days with MANY hours of screen on time.
Here's a partial dump of a discharge to 10%:
I'm using the exynos variant. I bought the phone on 13th Feb. The battery life is really realty bad for a 4800mah device. I was getting a expecting a decent battery life. But I'm getting like 4.5hrs SOT for 10.5 hours usage which is like half of what snapdragon verison is giving. This sucks. Should have waited for op9pro. Made a huge mistake.!!

Did you use it 60hz refresh rate ? This is insane battery life . I'm getting nowhere near this !!
I'm getting 2h SOT if I'm lucky, on AUB9.
Really wondering where those big differences between different users come from...

No, that is with Adaptive Motion Smoothness (120Hz) turned on.
I thought maybe my AOD was adding too much Screen On time, giving me a very misleading value, so in one of the tests I made i just played a few movies, and I still got hours and hours of battery life. I have no idea why there is such a variance.
Edit: So I thought of two things to mention. I run my screen brightness at about 35%. If you run yours much higher, that could effect your results significantly. If you use your phone outside a lot and it's set to automaticly adjust its brightness, that could set the screen brighness very high (for when you're outside). Also, I have bluetooth turned off.
2nd Edit: I ran another test last night and I'm surprised to report that there was no significant difference at full screen brightness versus my normal 35% brightness. I had Netflix playing for 3 hours at normal brightness followed by 3 hours at full brightness and the slope of the battery level curve is essentially the same. I'm at a lost to explain this as well as it's been my experience that screen brightness significantly affects power usage.
fwiw
My battery life seems okay but charging is very slow. I've never had so much trouble getting up to a full charge

I use it outside about 2 hrs a day. That too usage. Only for changing the song. Nothing more . I use dual sim .listen to music atleast 1 hour a day via Bluetooth. Even then what you are getting is truly amazing.

I did some tests the other night and much to my surprise turning up the screen from my usual 35% to full didn't make much of a difference.
I'm in the habit of using the "Close all" function in the recent apps screen almost all the time. Maybe that makes a difference?
I'm trying all the scenarios to reach that level of battery life but I go out for atleast 3 hrs a day. So I use my phone in mobile data as well. That also contribute. Yeah closing all applications all the time prevent unnecessary background process. That may actually help in apps like Twitter and Instagram.
Here is the latest I have managed . I removed one of the sim and used carefully . This is the best I have managed so far. But again, I use it outdoors with mobile internet for atleast an hour of screen time. 3 hours of outdoor usage . I'm still not sure if it's a good battery life but I will take it.
As a new S21+ owner I can say that I have had great battery life so far consistently getting 7.5-8 sot. This is with the latest march update.

Hi. Looking at your screenshot, it seems you are using an Indian variant. I do not want to get into specifics, but Indian networks are far more congested compared to other countries. So the modem has to work 4 times as hard compared to say the US. Also, dual sims nearly halve the standby time. So the usage you have is fine and I wouldnt worry too much about it.
Have anyone tried disable auto optimize app daily and disable adaptive battery.
Some say it really improve the battery on the previous samsung gen. I'm going to try it. And report to all of you guys.
Just came up to xda to search about anything related to battery and didn't find the solution yet.
Sometime I got a good battery like about 6 hours sot. The other day it just to bad only around 4 hours. It seems auto optimize overreacting to apps and make it closed and open daily causing a worst battery live. And the adaptive battery just seems not good at all in some report.
My best so far today, 10h of SoT doing mostly multimedia stuff. Exynos, 4G, 60Hz, April update. No power saving mode.

i thought that was just me , glad I'm not alone on this . also read some are experiencing bluetooth issues aswell
Mine's not too bad but then I have a choke-chain on it so to speak. #1 thing imo is to restrict google gms and use aggressive doze settings, allowing the occasional 'maintenance' sync thru wifi (set to turn off at screen-off). Naptime may be oldish but he keeps it working...esp his magisk module for dozing google! BetterBatteryStat has now been updated for A13 and more! Battery Guru is also a gem. If ur not rooted, u still have adb perms for BG and BBS to help. I also don't have much of any 5G connectivity so I changed network pref. to 4G/LTE.

I'm not rooted.
How would BBS or BG help with the draining?
And is Naptime effective without root?
BBS doesn't 'do' much but it's a great tool to see what's using batt., how much and when...incl. details of any wake-locks that may be keeping your phone from entering/staying in dozie/deep sleep. It can give you percentages starting at boot, unplug, last full charge (variable) and almost anything u could want. With ADB perms., you don't miss out on much vs. root. BG is just a good all-round battery app. that can also keep charge session stats and set an alarm for what min/max charge levels but can't actually stop charging...just an alarm so u can keep from maxing to 100% every time...extends batt. longevity big time. I'll try n find some good links that explain the dynamics muuch better than I can...
I'm happy with battery stats. I use Battery Guru to check, but it usually reports 15-30 minutes extra SOT than system settings. Either is very good. Stock with no root, still December. Last few SOTs:
010623 10h 18m 100 to 10
010723 11h 35m 100 to 8
010923 11h 10m 100 to 8
011123 10h 57m 100 to 0
011323 10h 53m 100 to 10
011423 11h 56m 100 to 10
011823 10h 28m 100 to 7
012023 10h 46m 100 to 10

is it safe to let the battery get so low before charging ? i thought it shouldn't go below 20% or is that a bit of a myth
I've gone from 100 to 10 with my 4a and 6a since day 1. I've never noticed battery depletion other than an oddball app hit.

In terms of longevity of the battery itself (battery health), as opposed to battery drain, many people think that not letting your battery get below 20% and not charging above 80% is the way to go. Also, frequent, shorter charges are better than longer charges for the battery health, according to many of these same people.
The way I charge depends on how long I intend to keep the phone. I usually shoot for a once every 2 year update cycle. Since I'm not a super heavy phone user and don't plan to keep phones more than 2 yrs...I've adopted a 90% max and 15% min charge strategy. Heavy users or those planning to keep their phone like 3 or 4yrs may want to stick to 80%/20% or somewhere in between.
Here is a great write-up on best charging practices.

slightly off topic again but following the battery care theme .. car ( lithium ) batteries .. 20-80% to prolong their life span ( How to get the most out of your electric car battery article ) , so i suppose the same principle applies across the board .
thanks everyone , who says ya can't teach an old dog new tricks
Could battery saver Itself be the issue? I received the update and do not have any battery issues or idle drain..
Battery saver is off - how ironic
Not sure, I have the battery saver on and DO have the drainage issue.
I got it in the UK , unlocked global , and a list of updates from Google January updated models. Nothing about battery fix / issues ..

Mine still has not seen the Jan update. At this point, with the Feb update coming out early, the 6a might just skip Jan entirely.
Link seems to imply its mostly just the 5g drain issue thats been around since release. Sometimes blamed on the type of modem google is using or the software around it.
My 5g stays off unless if i'm signal searching. With it on the phone seems to try too hard to connect to iffy 5g instead of going with a stable LTE.
I actually turned 5G off, unless I'm going to be streaming.
CAn't be since mine's on Wifi most of the time and I have the drain
