I picked up the S6 from Verizon over the weekend and without thinking I took an out of the box update that pushed the build to OF1. From what I have been reading there's no going back from this build. Is that true and would anyone know if someone is working on a method to root this new build or that will allow us to roll back to the old build to gain root?

Someone could be working on something. Probably won't know for sure until it's actually released, though. Until then you've just got to wait it out.

And we may be SOL for attaining 5.1.1 unless we go back to stock lol it may never get rooted

Yup, you are totally correct that we may be stuck with 5.0.2 forever If it wasn't for stagefright I'd be quite OK for that until M is available, I think.

i picked mine up about a month ago, unwitting of the predistro of verizons aof1. i was really looking forward to rooting and beginning to work.
as such, im assuming, from lack of ability to load custom recovery, as well as not reload the baseband and have it stick, its pointless to try downgrading to the oldest stock? it bricks?
somewhat noob and would love a redirect to a better forum for this q if known.
Still haven't received it but it looks like a junk update.
NRD90M.G935VVRU4BQC5
This software update provides the latest enhancements for Enterprise customers.
One Talkā from Verizon:
The Galaxy S7 edge now supports One Talk, connecting your office and mobile devices with one number.
App update:
Amazon Shopping (version 8.1.1)
https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-update/
Edit: I received it and it updated Android security patch level to April
Are you sure that the OTA Firmware isn't actually a 7.0+ Nougat Build? The QC builds that I've seen so far have all been at least base 7.0 Nougat.
I don't have a S7 vzw. Yet. Probably within a few days.

I got this pushed to me too, updating now.
I just checked system updates. There is a new one for me, it include Verizon One Talk and some security updates. Don't k ow if it's QC5. I'm downloading now.

Yep. You can return to stock and keep some directory changes you made by using their desktop Verizon Software Recovery utility for Samsung. You'd lose root but the phone will get and install OTA updates.

I know we will lose root if we take this update but is the update still rootable? I'm rooted on QA4 still and refused to take this update yet as I just received the notification today(Tuesday 5/2/17). I like being rooted with dual speaker mod,and V4A installed. Can anybody confirm if this version is rootable using the Nougat root method? How can I disable the uodates?

If you go to @jrkruse "root for nougat" thread and follow his guide, you'll be able to root the qc5firmware.

I am already on BQC5 and just this morning I got a new system software update downloaded, ready to install message. Odd thing is in the past, prior to BQC5 the notification showed the build number, date and what was changing. Now it doesn't show me anything. It just says there is an update do you want to install now or later.....
Anyone have info on this "unknown" system update?
Looks like this
Software Update G930VVRS4BQC9 for Samsung Galaxy S7 and G935VVRS4BQC9 Galaxy S7 Edge
Android May security update.
Device Stability improvements, bug fixes.
Further improvements to performance.

Sure do. Tried the QE2 and QC7 files in @koop1955 's big post, but both get the same error. I imagine because I'm on S6 Edge, not just S6?
Although, now it looks like he's working on a new rooting method, so maybe I should hang back a bit for now anyway.

Thanks for this, very helpful. I'm in a similar state from the guy above, currently running Renegade OJ7 v1, my kernel is 3.10.61-S6_UniKernel_v9-0000_beta, baseband version G925PVPU3BOJ7 and TWRP 2.8.7.0 with the most recent version of SuperSU.
My question is: should I bother with updating the kernel as well as flashing the TAR you linked to, or is just the TAR good enough? After that, should I mess with TWRP or leave it alone? Once I get that done, if I'm looking for a clean slate, should I just wipe all partitions and flash the ROM? If you can answer any/all of these it would be hugely helpful for a guy who doesn't do that much flashing and can't swing $800 on the new S8 right now.
Thank you!

I still have my edge and am running this. All I can tell you is you have to update to nougat first (flash the tar I think). It's been a long time since I did it. Once my phone was updated to the new firmware I then installed twrp and flashed the rom. That's about all I can remember. In my case it got hung in a boot loop and I had to flash a second time. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

The ATT devices wipe when you use the OTA files. I don't want to wipe, which is why I asked if Odin files were available.
ARG2 is also v3 bootloader. I jumped to the 2 early and regretted it. I'll wait until one of the carriers officially goes to a v3 bootloader before I jump that gun

How is that so? I thought the build numbers were always sequential hex based numbers that directly correlated to the build date and how new that build is. But its been a while since I have really got into Samsung firmware after a long hiatus from the S3 so I am sure things have changed since those days.

It was really annoying when I cared if they passed safety net. I kept wiping my phone, and had to roll back because my LG Watch needed Google Pay. I was starting to think Verizon/LG would never get it out. I'd like to keep this phone until probably the Note 10 comes out.. This should help with that I think. Will be installing shortly.
Can anybody check does it arb or nah?
Are there any reviews for the Oreo ota for any variant? Just curious. I'm on T-Mobile so yeah that sucks.

So the Verizon reps were off by a month... Playing with Oreo right now and I can say I'm already over it... When are we getting Pie?
Haha, just kidding. So far so good with Oreo on the v20 in the 20 minutes I've had it.
