I'm always trying to slim down the given Gapps Apps due to their design to capture your personal phone use. Apps that have permissions to modify System and SU rights on storage are an irritant to me but such is the Android evolution. I disabled RetroMusic because first, it is a beta and second because I like the App I have been using for years. So removing the permissions and disabling the app disabled all sound on the phone. These system apps should not have that kind of control over your Devices sound. Has it always been that way?

Boot into TWRP, mount system and then use the built-in TWRP file manager to delete the app's containing folder from system/app, then reboot.
Thanks for that. But why not freeze it with Titanium, would that be better? When I lost all sound from removing permissions on this app I'm wondering if removing the app will do the same thing. Thanks for the help but I'm going to research removing system Apps some more before I wind up wasting another day trying to solve something that should be left alone. Would somebody please explain why Google thought is good to waste a whole line on an up arrow. Can't we get that fixed. I mean what is the benefit of the APP drawer if the home screen space is deprived of 4 positions. Can't that little up arrow be put in one space like the circle with dots. And why not give us the option of the circle or up arrow.

I noticed when playing my music w/ Viper FX that the sound quality goes from using the drivers of the app to stock flat (audio quality depreciates) since the app was killed while performing another task (such as opening hangouts or other apps while using phone). I noticed that Android doesn't release the RAM from another app that was being used (ex. ESPN, hangouts, etc) since those apps were more recent while Viper was opened and left. I was wondering if there existed anything to set a higher priority of the Viper FX (or other apps) over some so they won't be killed even if newer used? Thanks for any information.
Think this would probably be the easiest way: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartprojects.MemoryLocker - the developer is very well known for these kinds of mods and RAM management. Adjusting the oom ratio will give the app higher priorities so make it less likely to be killed. I'm sure there are ways to manual doing it via adding a script or something, but time and effort for all that, I dunno if it's worth it unless you really like to tinker and do stuff manually.
Thank you, that will probably be easier way with root. Was checking to see if any way to do manually since don't need just for Viper but may have to do it.
Ah, sorry. I was thinking that you had to have root for Viper, so that you were already rooted. Pretty sure there isn't a way to make these kinds of tweaks without root either manually or via an app like Memory Locker. There really isn't a compelling reason NOT to root, in my opinion. It's not complicated (compared to most other phones) and is fairly easy to reverse. If you'd like some help with it, lemme know.
I am rooted, sorry. Would it be possible to push the app from user app status to system app (via file explorer/permissions) (such as MusicFX)? Installed normally and it works great but maybe, if by making a system app, it'd be less likely to be killed versus user?
Don't want to use titanium backup push to system, had bad experiences and will not use the app again for some time.
Theres discussion about putting viper in /system/priv-app in one of the two viper thread's in themes and apps (n5).
I still have mine in /data/data.
I've made it resident with the xposed module called "app settings" but I can't confirm anything yet

Hi,
I have not tested and I don't know if it will be useful but there is an Xposed module to keep apps in memory, maybe you can try... This module is not only for this, there is other features.
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2437377.
- Resident in memory: If set, the system will try much harder to keep the app in memory even when you leave it. It might make the app more responsive when reopening but will also consume more RAM, possibly slowing down the overall system.

EDIT: maybe the app posted by es0tericcha0s is better, lightest and easiest to use...

Well I don't know if this is something that we can do or something the people who made the Viper audio mod need to do. Wouldn't a good way to keep it in memory be to keep a persistent notification? It really bumps up an app's priority in Android when it has an on-going notification up on the notification bar.

Yeah, exactly that. I just installed it again after a clean wipe of my phone a few days ago and have begun tinkering with it and JUST found that setting. To OP: enable the persistent notification. That'll make sure Viper4Android a high priority app when it sweeps through its open apps looking for one to close.

Would there be a way to hide it once enabled without using say Xposed? Running ART. Thanks for any info.

I think "hiding" it is actually "preventing" it, thus undoing what you want to achieve.
I think further discussion should join the viper4android thread, to keep it all in one place....

I am not sure on this one. The first thing that comes to mind is long-pressing the notification, going to App info, then unchecking the box that says "Show notifications". However, I think if you do that, it lowers its importance, circumventing the advantage of showing the notification in the first place, and you're back to square one. So I guess I don't know how to help you with this part.
Yeah, I suppose we should probably move to the thread listed above, too.
Hey guys,
This is a replication of the thread I've originally posted in the Nexus 6P Themes & Apps Forum. I've successfully built something similar to Google Pixel's Fingerprint Notification Gesture. Just install the APK, grant it root access and you're good to go.
NOTES:
There's a similar app made by another developer, and this is in no way affiliated to it. End product is the same though it's accomplished in different ways. Read further to know the differences.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Nexus 5X rooted with SuperSu
2. Android 6.0+ (should work with lower APIs too - haven't tested)
BUGS:
It takes a while to start listening for fingerprints after a complete boot and after you unlock your phone. In the former case, it takes longer for the service to start.
DESCRIPTION:
We all have heard about the Google's new Pixel's fingerprint swipes to accomplish tasks. For the ones who aren't aware, the Pixel lets you swipe down it's fingerprint sensor to simulate a swipe down on your notification bar / status bar to pull it down and a swipe up, to pull it up. This app accomplishes something similar.
A single short tap on the sensor pulls down the notification / status bar and a long press on the sensor pulls it back up, irrespective of whether the finger in subject is registered for authentication or not.
DISCLAIMER:
Make sure you always take a backup before testing. Thumb rule. I'm not responsible if you screw up your handset!
DOWNLOADS:
Fetch it from below.
Cheers and let me know.
Great work man, appreciate it!

The app doesn't actually open it runs in the background after u allow root privileges..it's kinda a silent app. Working well though.

Ok. Apk installed, app is running. But i have no idea how to grant supersu (root) privileges. App itself didnt asked SuperSu, so SuperSu didnt showed up the prompt window to grant the access. Any sugestions?

Okay, tried this and it worked. So.. Go to apps, delete data from Pixel Swipe app. Force close app. Scan your finger and setup the fingerprint sensor screen unlock. Reboot the phone and open the app again. Guess it wants the scanned finger before opening.
tnx man no problem with that , good job
So there's no settings for this app? It takes this much trouble just to get it running as well? I'll stick with the original app.....
Worked within five minutes, just had to have finger scanned in the phone. Works great. Thanks mate.
would be nice if i can swipe to remove notifications panel too, not long press! anyways, thank you. very useful app.
Why opening of notification panel so slow? NOVA launcher have the same problem with Android 6, but they solve this problem with root, can you do same thing for your app? With so slow opening - app is useless
Nice app. Not filled with bloated stuff like similar apps. Just what I searched. ?
are you the devloper of the app?
is there any way to make it so that the fingerprint scanner act as a scroll wheel?
Anyway to implement directions and tap to select double tap to go back??
Can't even open file.
Thanks mahn! :good:
Appreciate it!
But is there any way that the notification panel would go back up when swiped up?

Try making it a system app.
Hi,
I have noticed that if I click on a share button somewhere (doesn't matter where, everywhere the same problem) I have to wait 10 - 15 seconds until the window pops up to choose an application where I want to share it.
You guys have the same problem?
I have root and xposed but no modules they interact with the share system. Any ideas how to fix that, if it's even possible?
The Problem isn't new for me. I'm not sure if it was working once.
Thank you
I had this issue where any app I tried to share from force closed. I realized it had to do with the stock "Files" app which I had removed or frozen. I enabled the app again (actually replaced with the nougat beta file manager) and "share" worked like normal.
Not a solution to your problem, but could be a clue.
Try playing around with the "files" app.
Clear data, and so on..

Do you have Flat Style Colored Bars? I was having the same issue and after I removed it it went from around 15 seconds to around 5. Still annoying, but manageable. I also downloaded Quickpic instead of the stock gallery which has it's own share feature to get around that problem/

Tested deactivating the modules.
I have the problem if: App Settings, Google Assistant enabler or Xstana are active.
Well I guess I have to live with the bug then, the modules are too important for me. Thanks for your help.

You can use the theme engine to make a theme that uses whatever xstana bars you have. For Google Assistant we're getting the update in a month or so. Don't know what to do about App Settings. Tasker maybe?
Basically, I have both the pre-installed Files app and the Files by Google app on my phone. It's not the end of the world but it is annoying to see them side by side on the app screen when I swipe up. Is there a way, without disabling apps or using a different launcher, to hide apps form the app screen? So it only shows when I go to settings and click on apps from there.
Thank you for any help in advance!

No, it looks like it is part of Google's security policy to keep malware apps from hiding themselves. Even the "full version" type apps that can then be hidden don't go away even on reboot. The devs of such apps have confirmed. Custom launcher it is.

There is no way right now even if rooted. The issue is that it is part of Pixel launcher and of course it is locked down to that kind of a change. My suggestion is Lawnchair beta which is now available on the Play Store. You can make it as identical to stock as you want yet can also put in some improvements. The only hard change I have come across in Lawnchair is that the swipe up to gen into the drawer doesn't require that idiotic LONG swipe through recent items but starts like it should in the center of the home screen. It is worth changing just for that and the ability to hide apps, and it is free. Of course, Pixel launcher is still on the device and can be accessed by changing your default launcher back in settings.
Is anyone know why gboard and a couple of my apps revert back to their settings to default?
My ROG Phone 5 is no root, bootloader locked, and every permission on the apps setting is allowed
I even uninstall gboard via adb and re-download via playstore but still revert back
I've the same problem but I couldn't fix this up.
Unistalling&reinstalling or rolling back to previos versions of gboard can't solve the problem.

Are you using twin apps? If yes, that's the problem, you should remove any twin apps and the gboard won't revert it settings anymore.
You can use app called "Island" to replace the twin app functionality.

Would it also work to add Gboard to both with the same settings?
Did a little digging and found someone that had the same idea and confirmed it was working. if you configure Gboard within Twin Apps, it will save those settings.

Are you referring to the Island app? Unfortunately, the gboard installed on the Island workspace is different from the main workspace, but you can apply the same settings like on the main workspace.
Yeah, I know that used double of storage for gboard, but getting gboard reverts itself everytime is annoying.

No. I was suggesting a way to avoid installing redundant apps with a relatively simple and low-cost workaround. If you save the Gboard settings from inside Twin Apps, they don't reset.
