Everything that has Qualcomm is much better that this crap.
With Mediatek you can't expect unofficial nor even official updates.

Actually this device has everything. More expensive phones aren't "smarter", they have just, you know, more power.
Only internal storage sucks, 8 GB would be enough.

E4 is worse than E3 it only give us 0.1 ghz faster cpu for buying crappy mediatek cpu
only good thing in it was 8gb memory and lollypop. if i have to choice a phone i will choice E3 not E4 cuz it has Mediatek cpu.
Guys, say sayonara to lollipop
Well well well guys, we have now a new entry level flagship called Xperia E4 (E3 succesor) . I know that MediaTek chipset are crappy and low power proccesors when you compare it with Qualcomm, please dont get dissapointed or sad about our little E3 D22XX. We must focus on our devices in order to standing out among others.
So, at this point i have made a thinking about the situation: probably we´re not going to get a taste sweet of lollipop. Enjoy CM12! with our powerful E3 22XX
See the new rotten kid on the block

Hi guys, here´s a video from our russian friends showing us the Xperia E4 (isnt a unboxing) and looks very reliable and real. I think the guys are a little bit disappointed because is mediatek (i heard that when they talk)
As you can see even the Xperia E4 has android 4.4 kitkat inside, there´s no lollipop or material design around.
And here we have both devices, head to head, the fight between E3 and E4 in the official sony publicitary spots

It has just two things better in software side:
Grey statusbar and navbar in Sony apps (E3 is the only Xperia that has black navbar and statusbar in sony apps)
Z3 camera, it has improved speed and quality image

Well, today we received another slap in the face: Xperia E4g LTE with dual Sim and single Sim support is going to be released in April 2015. E4g is just a little bit tiny lower compared with E4 gsm. theres Nothing of improvements because E4g remains with mediatek and Mali instead of Qualcomm and adreno.
In fact E4 and E4g are new low end devices from Sony. its obvious for everyone that economic crisis made Sony reduce quality in new low end devices. that risk chess movement may not keep the Faith in Sony old customers but can invite new users to enjoy the brand.
by the way, I think E3 is better than E4g and E4 because we have everything we need in a solid device(I mean NFC, LTE and good chip set). we dont need dual sim, we only need a better front facing camera and 4 GB more of internal memory, lollipop and that's it!!!.
an enhanced E3 would be a better idea
Root E4 Dual Sim (E2115)
Hello, i had unllock bootloader of this phone (model E2115), but i can not root it.
Does anyone know how ?
Thanks
I bought one yesterday on the local vendor and I can say right away, it's horrible. I can't believe Sony launched this crap as a mid level smartphone. I had a Mlais Mx28+ that was more "machine" than this E4.
At first impression the THICK design was what made me hate it right away.
137 x 74.6 x 10.5 mm (5.39 x 2.94 x 0.41 in).
When I've opened the back cover, surprise surprise, No removable Battery...
For a brand that stands out as a green loving enviromental group, this option makes us wonder... Who are you? Apple?
On the rest part it's all the same as the phone I had. But mine costed only €79...
Here's a thought. Ask what users want in a phone, compromise it the best you can and try not to think just about profit.
I'm going to turn this back.

Hello,
go to that site :
http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/
and select from the List "Sony Xperia E3" because E4 is not in the list, but is working. Follow the procedure step by step.
My advice is, DON'T Unlock your bootloader yet, because you will cannot update the firmware after that. Wait o few months to get some updates and then Unlock.
Although, there is a tool and a procedure to get back to a stock ROM and Relock the bootloader, but is not working for E4, because E4 is not fully supported yet.
Root xperia e4.
For root xperia e4 use kingo Root, it works with me.
so you guys are saying xperia E3 is a better phone than xperia e4?

That's bad. It should be updated... :'(
Nevermind, LineageOS & crDroid will (and Carbonrom, AOSP, etc..). Honestly, since we can install most of the Sony apps on these roms, there are not much advantages to use stock roms, but there are many advantages to use the former...!!
Yesterday I asked on the Sony Chat if there is an update next Nougat 7.1.1 for the Xperia Z5 and they said me yes.

It's not official yet.
It doesnt matter if our z5 is capable of getting Oreo update or not.
Sony has 24 months or how much to support their devices.
I strongly believed that we were going to get Oreo update, as you all know Z5 has no problems whatsoever, and believed sony will make exception and support to our device, but i was wrong.
Oreo update with the XZ1 ui would be really really refreshing for our device.

I guess it's not uet final. The announcement was for devices that will be updated first.
But no official announcement that Z5 update will stop. Let's wait and see..
Sony is very generous...hehehe

Z5 might receive Oreo, just not from Sony.
It might well still be a good thing tho.
The Z5 has been out for 2 years, received 3 major OS updates (5.1.1 to 7.1.1) and timely security patches.
Honestly, I prefer well-built and stable updates to poorly-built and full of bugs ones.
Just look at how we received Nougat, the 32.3.A.2.33 update was a joke (they tried to push it out as soon as possible).
Even now the 32.4.A.0.160 (most stable of Nougat) is nowhere near as stable as 5.11 Marshmallow.
So yeah, it might be a good thing not to have half-heartedly developed builts (the XZ line is way more popular to non-Sony fans btw)
Also, we have some really devoted and dedicated developers for our device (kudos!), who revise their codes every single day and fill their ROMs with lastest Google security patches.
Oreo will come to the Z5 for sure, not just from Sony.

Nothing surprising: after 2 years vendors usually stop updating firmwares. Most of Z5 line owners already knew that Nougat would have been the last major release.
Now there's space for AOSP.

Hi.
I have an Xperia Z5, and I had found out I couldn't unlock my bootloader. So i am thinking about upgrading to a Xperia XZ. Is there anything I should know about the phone? If it overheats etc.
Also, the reason I am getting the upgrade is because I can't unlock my bootloader. Are all the Xperia XZ phones bootloader unlockable? And how would I find out if it could be unlocked before I purchase it?
Many thanks,
-MegaBytesMe

1. Consider buying XZs , it has 4gigs Ram and better processor and slight difference in price!
2. there are LOCKED Z5, LOCKED XZ and LOCKED XZs in market! you need to makesure to buy International versions. at vendor dial *#*#7378423#*#* , this will open service menu , search under configuration " Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes ", if its YES , buy this version
3. both XZ and XZs heats up but still better than Z5. and oreo has better battery life
I bought a xz at the beginning of the year, and I'm 100% unsatisfied. If you chill on XDA and use custom ROMs etc, I would never recommend this phone... I'm getting a new one next week, lost faith in Sony after having used a couple of them. They simply don't cut it. The only plus is the water resistance and the frontal stereo speakers.
Hi, I am just not getting it. Spent money on two phones to see if I can unlock and root them, and it is not my forte! Don't even know where to start because there is just too much information out there when I search online.
Is there anywhere I can just buy a rooted device, or pay someone to do it. Since every search on the Internet leads back to this site I thought I should ask it here. If I am in wrong section please let me know.
Thank you
As you want to root your phone, I'm assuming you know how a phone works and how to differentiate models and variants!
You can't buy an already rooted phone, as none come with it. If you want a phone that is easy to root but still good for a daily driver, you have to know the following criteria:
- Very popular brand (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo)
- Has to have a Snapdragon processor (mediatek phones are harder to root)
- The specific device should be popular on XDA (examples include Redmi Note 8 Pro, Poco X3 Pro, most samsung S devices that have Snapdragon processors)
- Samsung S (s22, s20, s8, etc) only have Snapdragon CPUs in countries like the USA and I think China

recipy for DISASTER. don't buy a pre rooted phone, who knows what keyloggers and spyware can be put alongside that root? i wouldn't risk it at all, in fact i wouldn't buy any daily driver thing from ebay outside of like a phone case
Thank you for the replies. I will keep reading and researching. I bought a Motorola G Stylus (2021) just now, and gave up on the Samsung s10e. So far I have been able to get adb and fastboot working. Reading on XDA to figure the rest out.
Very popular brands (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Huawei, etc) tend to lock down their devices entirely. one can't just unlock bootloader from fastboot. beware of random guides, they often outdated or too broad.

- check community development is active (TWRP available? custom ROMs?)

Nobody should buy an already rooted phone.
You should ever re-flash the full stock, format data and then, re-root the phone by YOURSELF.

Hi, do you have any specific model you can suggest? Considering the following:
I want to buy an android that I can root for sure, no matter how old it is as long as it runs Android 6 at least, I need it to be as cheap as possible, and I want to buy it in USA, compatible with T-Mobile carrier which is the one I use
I bought this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B3F9BRF9 and it was compatible with TMobile but there's no TWRP or info on how to root it, so I'm seeking for some old phone that actually works and is rooteable. I want to run some experiments but I need root access.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I found several Samsung S7 on Ebay that could work, do you think it's a good match for rooting?
