Worth switching? - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Worthy switch from HTC 10?
Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk

Wait for the u12.

I did that exact switch and other than the bigger size, better rear camera, worse front camera, no headphone jack and water resistance there's little difference. Only did it as my HTC 10 died in the rain. Wouldn't have bothered and I'm waiting to trade up to the U12 asap

Guess I'll wait for the U12

It depends on your budget, the U11 is now less expensive than 8 months ago, in some countries it's even significantly cheaper (like in my country it dropped from 700$ to 550$).
If you are ready to pay the full price then wait for the U12, or get a U11+

Mugen Power 3200mAh and 6000mAh Battery Case for HTC One XL / AT&T HTC One X

Mugen Power Battery Case for HTC One XL video review. The case comes in black and white colours, check their website. I have made the video review below. Link to their website is http://www.mugen-power-batteries.com/htc/htc-one-xl.html I love these guys have bought batteries for my HTC Sensation and Desire Z and they perfom so much better than the stock batteries. Dont buy those cheap ones of ebay which cost less than $40. They wont last as long as these guys. Hit Thanks If you like
Just a public service announcement as well. If you want something more "generic" which can power just about any mobile device (though admittedly it won't be as integrated as Mugen's battery cases - which are very good if you want that form factor), Daily Steals has what looks to be a good one on sale (mon 8/6):
http://www.dailysteals.com/
The reviews shows these guys as shady, but I did buy a gnex from them and besides a delay in the shipping, they fulfilled their end of the transaction.
Definitely will be ordering one. If the 6000 is only a little bit more I'm assuming that is the one to get...? I'm so glad Magen finally went through with these. When you get yours write a first impressions/review!!

6000 is a little excessive considering our battery is 1800. We only need 3200 to make it last pretty darn long but yeah like you said it's only a bit more
Sent from my magical box
Looks nice... but damn that price is pretty high. Guess when push comes to shove at the end of my contract I'll get one of these.
From what I see, the 6000mah you'll have to charge it separate, the 3200 mah one you can charge in the same time with the phone... Does it makes it much thicker? Just curious, cause I still think the stock one is plenty enough for me.

I wish there was a noname one out for our phones, I would have bought one already :/ I've always had a noname extended battery. I love having it I never have to turn anything off and still get 4+ hours of screen time with plenty to spare when I get home at night
just want to see how much thicker it makes the phone. I kind of enjoy the profile of the HTC One X
I'm concerned about the speakerphone being muted with that case. It already isn't that loud without a case on it.
I sure would like to see it and see how thick it is, love the feel of the phone now.

I think they have published the sizes
the 3200mah is 14mm thick
the 6000mah is 22mm thick
Check the sizes here as well - 6000mAh and 3200mAh
Anyone has real photos of this one with the phone?
My order is 12 days away, remember I will put the video review up once I get the battery. I got the 3200mAh btw
I want one, but it's more than I paid for the phone itself on contract -______-
If your video is good I'll definitely be buying one. I really want to be able to use this phone all day. 3 hours of conservative screen on time isn't enough. I want at least 5-6 hard use.

I would really like to get a white case! Man the things I'll be able to do with my phone all day if this is good. Never have to worry about charging mid day again.
My Mugen 3200mAh Battery case finally arrived
My battery just came in the mail and the video review will be available in about 6hrs from now as i can only collect the package 2hrs from now. SO get excited people this is the only brand i trust when it comes to aftermarket batteries as they are really the capacities they specify and they peform for a very long time much better than those $30 battery cases. Video review will be up before 6pm Australian Eastern Standard Time. Juss to get an idea on delivery times it was posted on the 12th of Septemeber and arrived on the 19th of September however the battery had been ordered early August, they had no stock hence the delay but their shipping is super fast!
Well, just ordered mine...10-15 days
Thinking of getting one but it soon thick! Lol I can barely hold my phone in one hand right now

Would you still buy the OPO today?

My Nexus 5 is getting worse and worse by the day when it comes to battery life. I have replaced the battery and factory reset but still am struggling. Plus, I'm not overly impressed with the HTC One M9 at this point, but I realize it's not on final software yet either. The Asus Zenfone 2 is also appealing, but who knows when/if it will be released in the US.
So, if you were to buy a phone today, would you still consider the OnePlus One? I know the next variant is expected in the upcoming months but curious what you think. I like the price point, especially for the 64gb of memory, but it looks like camera quality is still hit and miss.
I appreciate your thoughts!
Update: bought one on Swappa and should be getting it on 3/20.
I just ordered mine 64GB version for 299 Eur
Hmm Nexus5 to OnePlusOne maybe last year, but this year when OnePlus Two is near i wouldn't buy OnePlusOne, but if you totally need it buy it. It is smooth and looks so awesome.
I'd still buy it in a heartbeat.

I bought a used one a few weeks ago off of swappa for $330. Came with a case and 2 glass screen protectors. Love it so far, decided to buy another used one for my GF too.

Just got mine today, loving it. I'd get a one plus two if it was exactly the same as the one in every way, ie 5.5" 1080p (dont need higher), 64gb of storage, great battery life and cheap. Rumours all point to none of this, along with the 810 being a hot chip. Even the M9 is a hot running device.
I have a HTC One m8, but seeing as the M9 is disappointing and I want a new phone so I bought it today, can't wait to get it! If I don't like it, well theres always toy phones to have
Yes. Got mine few days ago. So far, it's great. Now I have both Nexus 5 32gb and OnePlus One 64gb. It's so great in such a small price tag that you won't regret even if the Two comes in few months.
So if u consider to buy a phone today, definitely go for OnePlus 1.

Thanks for all the comments! I just purchased one on Swappa, now to sit and wait.
No, I wouldn't. The missing feature of mhl makes it almost completely useless with my app radio which I used heavily with HTC one m7.

Lol I got mine 2 days ago. And I must say, pros>cons on this phone. I absolutely love it. I don't care about the customer service and that it doesn't work as quick as people would like them to work. For the price of this phone and the specs, you have no right to complain about anything tbh?
I bought one , Broke it . . Tried the OPPO FIND 7.. broke and returned that.. now i just got another ONEPLUS . Love the easy customization and the ONEPLUS ROM Scene is busy..
oneplus one will be brilliant choice!
OnePlus Without second thought.
He had everything you have in Nexus 5 and so MUCH more, plus with this price tag it's a no brainer.
Just bought one a few days ago, coming from a fairly beaten up Galaxy S3 (no screen cracks, just dinged around the edges and crashes a random app once every other week or so) one big reason I switched is that even the new batteries I bought don't seem to last long.
I got the tempered glass screen protector with it and I love that, never going back to plastic.
I was worried if it would seem too big in my pocket - I would say, the S3 is a little more comfortable to have in pocket, but the OPO is OK. I basically wear jeans every day and they're not too tight, otherwise, it could be a problem.
It feels like a good solid quality device and I'm glad it doesn't get hot running Clash of Clans the way my S3 does.
The ghost touches on this thing are driving me crazy, it's going back up on Swappa.
I wouldn't buy a phone with Snapdragon 810 so I'm not looking forward to any of the flagship (and killer) this year.

Can I ask you why?^^

Where did you purchase your screen replacement?

Need to replace my cracked screen. Been looking on Ebay and I'm noticing the average price for screen+digitizer
+frame is $150...seems a bit high. Am I missing something or are there cheaper alternatives.

With screens... You get what you pay for. I would highly suggest shopping around in the average price range that they are selling for. The nexus 6 screens are still around $140 to $150 and the phone is older. So it's a fair price.
Go too cheap, you get a crap product most times.

At the end of the day how do you truly know that anyone else doesn't source the screen from the same Chinese knockoff factory as just getting it directly from that same factory. There's another thread on sourcing batteries and it's the same problem. Claims of "oem" quickly disappear when you have product in hand....
What I WOULD like to know why the heck the 6p screens are so expensive. Even as eBay fakes or Aliexpress... The price hovers around $150
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Oh. We all know you won't get OEM. That's almost impossible. But... If it's less than let's say $125, I'll likely pass it up. (some circumstances may be involved to sway my decision) From my experience, cheap means cheap. I've always had better products going with products that sell for the average price or slightly above.
The reason they are expensive is because they are good products. Just because it's not OEM doesn't mean it's not good. Chinese doesn't mean bad product either. I wish people would drop that. They are one of the world's leaders in manufacturing technology. They can have decent stuff. And they do.
To touch on the battery thread. Most people shoot for those $10 batteries. Those are cheap and will perform like a cheap battery. But if you go for the ones in the mid 20s, you usually get much better quality and proper temperature sensing. Usually.
In the end, it's your choice. Are you willing to risk your device and possibly your safety by going the cheap route?and that's perfectly fine if you do. I've done it. Or are you willing to fork over a little more for a better chance at a more reliable products? I find that balance gives me the best results.

Just wanted to mention that Huawei is still doing screen replacements for $163.46 total. I bought a Nexus 6p with a smashed digitizer and bent aluminum frame and sent it in. They replaced the screen and digitizer and replaced the aluminum while they were at it! Turnaround from shipping to receiving was exactly one week.

You need to call or chat with Huawei tech support and tell them you need to buy a screen replacement. Once you give them the details, they send you an email and a link where you can purchase the service. Once that's all done, they send you a label and you're ready to go.
i bought a cheap 5X screen to replace mine on my old phone after water damage, it ended up ruining my cell signal, dont cheap out.

That sounds more like the water damage you had ruined your cell signal. A few connectors in your phone probably started corroding.
I bought this one yesterday:

I find it ridiculous that most other screens of similar size are under 100 bucks off ebay but ours average at $150. Regardless if it's off ebay or Aliexpress or Amazon

For what it's worth the Huawei tech I talked to said that Huawei doesn't sell the OEM screens to anyone else. It seems sending the phone into Huawei is the best way to ensure an OEM-quality screen is installed.

I bought mine from eBay , 95€ and I'm good. Just a warning. The new screen doesn't come with the vibration motor nor the volume and power buttons. Be careful when removing those , my volume down cable broke , so I had to replace it , but I already had everything glued in. Took it to a repair store and they fixed it for 30€ , so yeh , be careful. Buttons cost 3$ or so , but the backglass often shatters when removed , so 10 more dollars for the back glass , plus the shipping , turns out to be pretty expensive. Careful. Also top earpiece is tricky to remove , is sealed with glue and everything pops out but it has a copper cable in it, if that rip off , you messed up. Careful with usb board , it has some contacts underneath , you got to do it perfectly , otherwise , no charging.
Best of luck boy ! Tell me the results at the end !

Some questions about root and other practical things aboutu11+

I bought a U11 3 months ago and I really liked coming back to htc agter 9 months with s8. I was already planning to get a u12+ in summer or u11+ if the price is crazy. Now we have the specs, design and prices (a 300$ difference) so here are my questions:
-Is the u11+ really too bulky?
-How the sound quality and loudness compared to u11 using the usb dongle?
-How easy and complete is rooting your u11+ nowadays?
-In case something goes wrong with your rom after root (bad or incompatiblr zip) can you flash a rom using twrp?
-Are Dolby and v4a working?
-And finally anyone upgrading u11+ to u12+? And if yes why?

If you have to buy an HTC device i would go strait with the HTC U12+ because it would get more love from HTC and the developer community than what U11+ is getting right now and deserves.
Also the U12+ will be the only flagship device from HTC for this year so it will enjoy the full focus and attention from them add to that it will officially have Treble support.
The U11+ is the forgotten child of HTC it seems, personally i would get a Google device or the coming Samsung Note 9.
Now regarding your questions:
-Not bulky at all. Rests comfortably in my palm.
-The sound is good but i wouldn't say it's better than say the Iphone 8+ which i had previously. i can't compare it to the U11 because i don't have it but i think it should be better since it's a line upgrade.
-I haven't rooted yet because i don't want to lose warranty since i have 15 months warranty. But you can root easily by flashing Magisk through TWRP.
-Regarding ROMS there aren't many, maybe one which is close to stock with added features so i don't think it's something to hold your breath for.
-I can't confirm.
-No i won't be buying or upgrading to another HTC device unless it's a Google device.
I would agree about the u12+ if the price was more logic, but a nearly 1000$ phone is way too abusive from htc, I can get a u11+ for 600$ while the u12+ is 950$

If you don't care about software updates then get the U11+, if you do then i would suggest getting the Pixel 2 since its price is around 600+ or even less.
Now if you choose to get the U11+ be aware of 2 things:
1- The device is very dim under sunlight.
2- Light bleeding especially the bottom side, i think this is due to it being an IPS display. Personally i am never going to buy another device with an IPS display, i can deal with Amoled screen burn which is easy to prevent but light bleeding no way.

U11+ has an sd card slot (and 128Gb built in). Downside, it's in the SIM2 slot. So it's either 1x SIM + SD card, or 2x SIM.
Sound is markedly louder than the regular U11 (my GF has U11). Haven't compared her headphoner to mine, though.
The phone isn't at all bulky IMO.
I really like my U11+ - HOWEVER, it does have plenty little niggles and issues. None dealbreaking for me.
I'd recommend the u12+ (if it reviews well), failing that, wait and see what the next pixels are like. They're what I'll be after next.
U12+ is coming too late here and too expensive, I will play with the u11+ till the u12+ price drops under 800$ (will be 950ish here in July)

Curious about upgrading my phone

I currently have the HTC U11 and I've had it for 2 years now and I'm thinking about a new phone. I've searched around but I don't see anyone weighing in in my question specifically so I thought I'd ask for some opinions here. I was looking at the S10+ and it's obviously an amazing phone but that price tag is kind of out of what I'm willing to spend on a phone. My question is, would an S9+ be enough if an upgrade from the U11 where I won't really miss the bells and whistles with the S10? I have always had HTC phones and since I'm on Sprint right now and the U12 isn't an option, I was thinking of this route. Any thoughts? Thanks!
S9 Plus can be bought on eBay for about $550 as of this writing. With dual speakers, a camera that's slightly better, and dimensions slightly narrower but a bit taller, it's hard NOT to consider it.

Does your U11 have any issues or you are just bored? Just curious.
