Holding Down Home Key vs. App Manager

What am I seeing when I hold down the Home key on my skyrocket? (stock ICS, using Apex launcher if relevant)
It looks like a list of open apps that I can scroll through, but its showing apps that the Active Apps widget that is part of stock is not showing...
Its showing recent apps both open+closed.
App manager only shows you what applications are currently active (i.e. apps that are using CPU cycles or are currently residing in the RAM.) Holding the home key brings up screenshots of recently used apps so as to make a quick way to return to apps that you were just using instead of having to dig around in your app drawer to find and "relaunch" them. Gingerbread only had a small pop-up window that showed the icons of the latest 6(?) apps you've used, which was handy enough, but I love having the screenshots in ICS.
Thanks guys. This is helpful - both in helping me understand the difference and also helping me figure out a good use for that function!

[Q] LiquidSmooth 3.1 + ASOP Recents + Floating Window

Hi,
because i'm "not permitted to post to development-related forums" i cant ask in the right thread:
At first: many thanks @all developer - this is a great ROM!
Im using LiquidSmooth 3.1 OFFIZIAL with ASOP Recent Apps. Within the first use Recent Apps after swiping to left, the switcher asked to enable "Floating Windows". I pushed yes and i worked. But i dont know for what this floating mode is useful. So i want to disable this floating mode with swiping to left and want to restore the default behavior (close app).
How do i disable this floating mode (swiping to left)? I cant find any associated setting in menu.
Regards

Thank you for your fast answer, but exactly this setting doesnt exist in my ROM (drdevs.com/devs/teamliquid/Official/3.1/)...
Almost same problem here (Note 2 @ Liquidsmooth).
Chrome beta started to open in the floating window and the page display is dimmed, making web browsing a horrible experience. The difference is that it opens as window ALWAYS, and not only when triggered by swiping on recents.
After spending ca 3 hours looking for the way to change it I realized that such a bug (even if the option is really hidden somewhere) combined with ART issues (rebuilding cache every reboot, a well known bug of dex2oat) plus updates released only as a full dumps (reverting all modifications to /system performed on my own) absolutely DISQUALIFIES the rom whene there are so many others around.
It's far away from my conception of flexibility.
All Links Open browser in floating window
I am having the same problem. All links in Google search open the browser in a new window.

Got almost the same issue. I never use floating mode, and today, chrome decided to make its appearance in float mode only.. very annoying as you can't pink to zoom without resizing the window.
I couldn't find out how to disable that, i tried unsinstalling.. but nothing seems to help.
By the way, I am using C-Rom v7.1 on Galaxy S3 i9300.
Looks like it is time to change the ROM

Same issue here since last Chrome update, running LiquidSmooth (latest LS-KK-MileStone-3.2) on Z1C.
Chrome opening in floating window
Same issue here. LS-KK-3.2 2013-10-29 on gt-i9300
It's a Chrome issue, not ROM. I have the same problem.
What you currently can do is hold the home button for 2 sec, then choose chrome again, it will switch to full window mode
Im also waiting for the bug fixed in chrome
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54019293&postcount=585
And roll back chrome
Yes working 100% floating crime browser in liquid smooth

its crome issues its not rom issue. So please press home button for 2 second and then select crome browser you will get full brwoser instead of floating.
Not sure if this helps but I'm bored and like to see activity on our forum. http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...ting-window-bug-on-certain-roms-apk-download/
just wanted to tell that chrome beta fixes this issue and it works fine for me.
as also written on chuckies link i just see
fyi, the recent chrome update also fixes this issue now

Beware of the Chrome Update

First off, I did a search and got no results with regards to this.
This morning I got a couple of updates including Maps and Chrome. Maps seems to be more stable and much smoother i.e An Improvement over the previous.
Chrome is now an absolute basket case!! It now functions in a small window. You can expand it, but you don't get a FULL screen. Those who like to use landscape, FORGET IT!! it will not landscape. Oh and to top it off the refresh function has gone and still a lack of close button!!
NOT GOOD GOOGLE. IF IT AIN'T BROKE.......
Found a work around
I'm having the same problem and found this on chromes dev site:
All of you having issues with small screen, are you rooted and using xposed framework? This is the reason and not chrome. Clicking home and open chrome from recent apps helps in my case.
That worked for me but you'll have to keep doing that every time you close out chrome. Any xda devs know why this is happening and a fix for it?
Same Issue

I been having the same issue as well. I have to back out and go back in to the app to fix it. Whatever the case it's annoying.
It's going to be fixed in the next Chrome update.

Why is there no tab browsing with the edge, or task switcher for open apps?

I look at the edge and think why is that border not used for switching open apps or tabbed browsing on a browser. Wish I knew how to code....

There is a panel available for recent apps, and although there isn't one for browser tabs, there is one for browser bookmarks which works pretty well.
Good to know. That's pretty cool. Waiting on mine.
You always have the lower left hand button on the phone for recent apps. I feel it's a nice improvement over the Note 3. I really like your idea of a tabbed drowsing bar. Seems lime a very natural fit for the edge.
Not sure i fully understand what your saying.
but
There is the recent app button. That works for switching between open apps.
Then when your using the browser. If you just scroll down the menu will open and you can hit the Tab button and have mutli windows open.
Also there was a user that made a panel for recent apps and task manager.

Never been a fan of Chrome . I am using Firefox with ad-block plus ( the extension, not the app ) - and so far have no complaints.
..and yes, I did try Chrome on the Idol3 , and it was terrible !

Same thing. Switched to Chrome to Firefox with Ad Block Plus. Chrome was laggy. I want to use Next Browser but it won't even download to the IIdol 3, it gives an error. I assume it's because of Lollipop. Speaking od Firefox. Is there a way to import bookmarks from Chrome to Firefox on the phone? I suppose I could do it on the PC if I really wanted to.
I tried MFF with adblock plus, it actually blocks ads but it is slow, like really slow compared to Dolphin. It doesn't even give full search options on Google homepage without going desktop.
I'm not a big fan of Firefox either. I may go back to Dolphin. I used Dolphin before I used Next Browser by the GO Launcher team on my Skyrocket. I miss Next but it wont d/l to Lollipop..
What about stock browser?

Anybody know any other way to access your saved bookmarks, other than reaching all the way up to the top right side of the screed to tap the 3 little dots? What a pain in the butt the capacitive keys don't serve as a menu button. Is there another launcher that will aide with this function?
Launchers won't help you when you're using an app.

Use Dolphin browser - swipe right from edge will give you Bookmarks, swipe left from edge will give you Tools. Unfortunately you will not get Ad-Blocking. You get Ad-Blocking with Firefox - but then you do not get the swipe gestures .
