Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to set the phone to show me notification content while screen is locked?
It is super frustrating that it shows me the title of the app and just says "content hidden", especially for music apps when I want to skip a track etc or reply to a Whatsapp without unlocking the screen.
I checked in the notification settings for each app and it set to display but still doesn't show when locked.

Settings, app and notifications, notifications manager, 3 dots upper right, notifications on lock screen
Enviado desde mi BKL-L09 mediante Tapatalk
It already says "display all notifications".
The notification is visible but the content inside is hidden..like the media controls and messages.
I'll try turning off the notifications and enable again and see what happens.

It's face unlock. Someone else had a similar question a while back.. Face unlock hides notifications unless it detects your face.. You need to turn it off and leave it off.. There's also another setting in face unlock called smart lockscreen notifications.. That needs to be off as well..

Thanks for that, it fixed it.
Damn face unlock was so fast and useful.
Where can I activate notification display *and* having Faceunlock on?
you CAN do it still with face unlock

Oh and since you guys seem to know your phone, just bought a mate 10 pro, i got another question for you is there a way to change the icons to a pack from PlayStore or stock android without installing a launcher?
I ask because emui puts this white background on google apps and lower the icon stock image. Really dont like it and the Desinge app only changes the color and doesnt remove background.
Fix
It's caused by the smart Lock screen notifications under face unlock. You can keep face unlock on, just turn off that smart setting and it should work.

I'm not sure that's what you do... But then again I have a Huawei so it could be slightly different. You actually go Security & Privacy > Face Unlock > *Switch off Smart lock screen notifications*

Hey guys!
I just bought my Huawei Mate 9 and coming from a two year old Oneplus One i can say it feels like flying, but at the same time I seem to been having some problems, I don't know if it is EMUI that works this way, but I find this next things serious problems more than annoyances.
1. First there is the notification bar, nothing wrong with it when I'm at the home screen, but when I go into an app it seems to vanish and the only way to know what's going on in my phone is to manually pull it down. Is there any solution to this? Is it a bug with EMUI 5.0?
2. Somewhat of a related problem, when I'm at my lock screen, I can never see ANY notification, the only thing I see is the time and my step counter, this is a very serious problem, I should be able to have a glimpse of my notifications at my lockscreen.
3. Finally there has been some times when I notice that my phone is loading slowly internet sites, and then I realize that the 4G option at the quick menu from the pull down notification bar has been turned off, this has happened several times, I thought it was because it could not find a LTE signal so it turned itself off, but when turning it back on it automatically goes into 4G/LTE. What's going on? Why does it turn itself off automatically?
I really need to know if this is an EMUI thing or something I can change or fix,
Thanks in advance guys.
Did you notice any problems before installing apps? First thing I'd try is turn off the step counter and any other running apps and see what happens.
The Mate 9 has some very intense power saving and you may have to play with some settings.
Some notifications dont seem to show on the lock screen. The built in email app is one of them. It makes a noise and the led pulses but the screen doesnt come on, theres no popup on the lock screen and the notification bar doesnt have any icons or anything to tell me anything. Gmail, messages and a few other work fine.
I have already disabled the power saving app closer thing, so it's not that, I will try to disable the steps counter, but I have a doubt, do I have to enable the "power on display when a notification arrives" setting so my notifications show in the lock screen?

Ok I think Ive got it. Go to settings, notification and status bar, notifications management, select the apps you want to wake the screen and show a popup notification. Click "display on lock screen". That should do it. I dont know what "banners" means but I selected it.
Ok I guess banners means the message shows on the top of the screen if the device is on.
Could it be maybe a problem with the current theme? Not even Whatsapp notifications appear on the lock screen.

It seems those settings solved the problem, but not completely, sometimes the notifications appear and sometimes they do not :/
Is it possible to respond to notifications when the screen is locked?
To get notifications systematically on the locked screen of the Huawei Mate 9 (or P9), you may only choose the "Magazine Unlock" wallpaper. Then all notifications as long as you've granted them permission and the app is full compatible with Android 7.0 will appear. I have a few apps for which no notifications appear either on lock screen or sound, though they do on my P9. I believe this is due to a necessary Android 7.0 update for the apps.
Hello all
Anyone know a way i can get lockscreen music controls to work.?
i use pocketcasst and deezer and none of them will have lock screen controls im sure its a Huawei thing.
as they work on all other phones.
Any help would be great with this thank you.
The only way i get them is to press pause on the headset and then they pop up.

Ohhh that actually explains why they was there the other day then went lol thanks for the reply mate.
It still remains a lousy way, im still hoping for a better way. The controls are off to, i need to press way more right that the buttons are. And sometimes the control buttons just move to the left under the album cover by them selfs.

I keep holding out that Huawei will actually fix this.

open your music app and then go to the notification tray , u can see your music controls there and then slowly slide it to the right, you will see a setting gear icon besides it , open that one and enable "display in the lock screen" option. ?

Spotify is whitelisted for me (by default, even changed the xml to com.spotify.music-2 as that's what it's named in /data/app) .... But it refuses to show on the lockscreen. UNTIL.... You play through a song, when it goes to the next song it appears and disappears 'til that song has played. Def a Huawei thing. I guess it's added "security". Notifications are on as well, and "display all on lockscreen".
Edit: actually it doesn't seem to obey the "display all notifications on lockscreen" setting as I just realized no notifications show at all.
(SOLVED) just disable the Smart Lock Screen Notification in face recognition setting.
Seems like a constantly reoccurring topic:
Anytime I'm using my phone, watching videos or showing others things on my phone, I'll receive any incoming whatsapp message as a very indiscreet pop-up in the top section of my screen.
I've tried using the "adb shell settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0" setting that works on some phones... sadly not on the S8+.
There's an App by Jawomo called "noHeadsUp" in the playstore, however this app involves activating (and then partially bypassing) the "do not disturb" function accompanied by the statusbar notification.
Jawomo's App "Headsoff", which worked perfectly on my S6 edge, seems to not be working on Android 7.0
Anyone have a solution to this issue?
(Pop-Up notifications are, of course, turned off in whatsapp's settings)
THANKS!

Yes only way i found now is - ON the Pop-Up notifications to, only show when Phone is OFF in WhatsApp
I had NOTE 7 and we could stop the Preview in that older phone
Why we are not able to that here
This actually disables the notifications from popping up when I'm actively using my phone.. but yeah... now they pop up when my phone is locked... not sure which is worse.
Thanks though.
ive been trying to find an answer to this for over 2 weeks since getting the s8 and still had no joy , had the same issue on s7 but there was a solution to that but doesnt work on my s8.
i have emailed whatsapp developers direct and had no response from them at all.
think the only solution for now is to use a different messaging app and delete whatsapp.
If they didn't remove system ui tuner, we could then stop it. I hate the damn crap always popping up in my face. People seem to talk more when I'm trying to watch youtube and cover the damn video.

There a free app called noheadsup that works for me. Install app and use single app setting scroll down to WhatsApp and you can disable the popup notification in there. I still get vibration alert when I get a msg.
Does it work to go to the Apps manager in the phone's Settings, and turn off Notifications for WhatsApp?

It's called "peek" now and if Samsung left the system ui tuner in, then we could disable just the peek/heads-up.
This is what I did to make it work.
Installed noheadsup
Open app and go to the in app settings (basic settings)
In the first box "disable all" make sure this is not activated
In the second box "disable single" activate this and press settings.
This will load all you apps in a list.
Scroll down to WhatsApp and select it
In this next menu make sure that allow notifications and show silently are both on. Set the "on lock screen" to not show notifications
Go back... And turn on vibration and sound alerts.
For me, the sound alerts don't work but the phone does vibrate and there are no popups. S8+

For that we do not need this App for it to show Silently
we can just go in the WhatsApp settings and
Turn on Show silently
But if the PAID version works with sound i would Pay
Doesn't work for me neither
Same here.
It disables popup, but there is no sound then..
After update i do not get mesg Previews anymore

Not working here.
Nothing is working.
Only thing that is working is to mute the notifications all together per app... so no sound or vibration. This is really a very bad thing. I hate it.
1. Activate show notifications silently in settings.
2. Download an app called lightflow and set up notifications for WhatsApp.
3. Now you won't get popups, only sound and vibration.

Using this worked for me, no headsup notification but there's still sound and vibration. I think this is the best method because it modifies a system setting instead of needing an app to run in the background all the time (how Lightflow works).

Since there's no more LED in the Pixel 3, I want ambient display to turn on when notification come in (as they normally do), but stay on till I wake up device and dismiss the notification, then turn off when there's no notification.

That would be a great alternative to the always on display. I would love to know if there was a trick to make that work. Otherwise, yes, there are a bunch of screen led notification apps on the play store, but I haven't found any that play nicely with the default lockscreen. Some notifications work well, others dont. Give it a try though.

Yes you can do this via tasker.. in fact the latest versions have it built in.. just look under settings for "custom setting". Click the little search icon under name and it will help you find it by toggling it.
I just set it to enable ambient when a notification comes in and then turn the screen on once (you can turn ambient on when the screen is off, but it wont actually work until the screen has turned on once), and disable it either when the notification is cleared, or when you unlock the screen. Seems to work well...

I just want to:
- Thank you for the idea. I was a little bit concerned about the lack of notification led, and also didn't like LED Blinker Pro and similar...
- Note that actually you don't need root to let Tasker toggle Secure Settings... You just need to grant Tasker permissions to change Secure Settings via adb (tasker help guides you to do so). It was quite straighforward, and now my phone acts exactly as I wanted!
Thanks again.

I have root - but can you please explain how you got tasker to do this for you. I haven't used tasker since the Android 2.2 days so I'm basically a newb. Or, I think you can simply export your tasker profile so I can import it directly. Whichever is easiest for you.
Well... my profile fits my needs, but may not fit yours... Also I must do some fine tunning, as it stills doesn't act as I would love. Sometimes AOD is not deactivated, and I must find why. But 90% of the time it's working Ok.
Anyway, I PM you my config so you can test it.
Let me export and send it to you.
You can enable ambient display to show when you get a notification through System > Display > Ambient > New Notifications.
I've just created an app called Pixel Pulse. I could use some testers if anyone is willing to give it a try. You can select the apps you want to have the app pulse your Ambient Display. There's paid customization for icons and colors but the core functionality of the app is free.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.pixelpulse
If you had previously purchased Ambi-Turner, it has been updated for the new permissions, but because it was written for 8.0 and when Google's ambient display worked differently I decided to leave it as it is. You may however transfer your purchase status of Ambient Display to Pixel Pulse using both apps.

This is not the issue, we're trying to replicate the functionality of the LED pulse so that we can see missed notifications. Ambient display only wakes for a few seconds and then never again.

Many thanks. Got it. I noticed that under Profiles, for On, there's numerous apps listed. There are some of them that I do not have. How do I delete them? I clicked on the Gmail icon, I was able to add other apps.

Hi, I'm very new to Tasker, but I still tried. Based on your explanation above, I'm lost, and don't know how you did it. Are you able to share the steps please?

I was talking exactly about that when I told you to customize to your needs. In my "ON" profile, I just want some apps notifications to trigger it. If you can't deselect some apps, you could try to open the .xml file with a text editor before importing, and delete them there.

Doesn't really work on my PIxel 3a XL (Android 10).
Pixel Pulse is installed and enabled, battery optimazion disabled, Pulse interval set to 8s, gmail and WhatsApp set to "Pulse" and "Show All", Display > Lockscreen > Always on disabled and Display > Lockscreen > New notifications enabled.
But does not pulse. New notification is shown for some seconds (like without Pixel Pulse), after hiding, maybe the pixel pulse notification will show up one or two times (but faster than 8 seconds!) and after that nothing more.
AmbiTuner also doesn't seem to work.
I got an email and message but the sound and the notification didn't appear until i hit the power button,
I did turn the notification on in Settings-> application ->gmail
what do i do ?

Since you get notification only when you hit power button then it must be something about apps/services being sleeping. Try this: Settings>Apps>Special Access>Optimize battery usage>All apps> and turn off battery optimization for Gmail app/Google Services and/or any other related app/service and see if that helps.

Well, it didn't work out... Have tried out both of your advices. Seems like I'll have to stick with AOD.
Thank you, though.
---------- Post added at 03:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:11 PM ----------
Is there any chance to trigger the AOD only when there's a notification?
