Saturday my mint condition Honor 8 hit the kitchen floor in its flip case.
My Volume key somehow got jammed as a result.
All weekend the phone worked fine minus the volume key not working.
Ordered my replacement parts and all was well with the world until I made a BIG mistake and accidentally rebooted the phone.
Now its stuck in eRecovery and will not boot back to system.
Is it possible to reboot the phone to system via my PC or some other way?

Thank you for your help.
Unfortunately holding for 10 seconds didn't help.
The phone reboots back to eRecovery each time.
My guess is one of the buttons is jammed somehow causing the phone to think I want it to boot to eRecovery when I don't.
Is there some other way I can force it out of this mode and make it boot back to the system?
At least there the phone functions normally as if the button's not jammed

I don't know actually, :crying:
Please disregard.
Was able to unjam my volume button with a few taps of a tiny screw driver mallet and some tissue paper to protect the metal.
Phone booted up like normal and I have volume control again!!!!
Thanks for your help

So... I've tried to update my rom and I've done it. Didn't like the ROM and tried to change it.
soooo. I messed everything up. My magic can't boot (it stalls on the boot screen showing "HTC Magic") and most important, I can't enter fastboot to restore a working ROM
Any ideas on this one before I go to HTC Support?

can you not get to the mode pressing home and power.
from there you should be able to use adb push to send new update to sd card

nope. Every key combined with the power button just boots the device and show the "htc magic" logo. nothing more.
I had the same sort of thing once. I removed the battery and before I put it back, I already pressed the home-key as well. Then it went into fastboot mode after I put it back in. With this way I could sent a new update.zip to the phone, flash it and then it was working again
Hope this helps

Well, it's not hard to send the update.zip. I can use a microSD 2 USB and copied it that way.
By the way I think it's the "return" key to enter fastboot. Not "home".
Tried the battery-removal trick. Didn't work.
Take out your battery, hold the volume down button and put the battery back in whilst you're holding the volume down. This in theory should bring you to fastboot. Just keep holding the volume down until you reach the fastboot screen. If after you put the battery in, nothing happens, keep holding the volume down and press the power button...
Should work...

One other thing to try is to hold the two left most keys on the front of the phone (these are different depending on your phone brand) whilst holding power, this will take you to a recovery screen where perhaps you can do something from there?
I'm assuming you get to see a splash screen first and then you see the HTC Magic logo...

the phone vibrates and shows the logo...
Turn it in for repairs.

Well, I am exlcuding the green call button and the red end button (which you use to run on your phone), but if it's freezing at the logo where it vibrates, then there is a problem.
I had a similar thing, but I was able to boot my phone into fastboot/recovery with the battery trick.
My two left buttons on my device are the home button and the menu button. Try holding this down when you put the battery back in. Unfortunately, the situation doesn't sound too hopeful.

did you try powering on while holding only the home button?
The power button on my phone recently has stopped working. I need to get it warrantied, but I am running CM 10.2. I need to Odin back to stock, but I can not get into Download Mode or the recovery. When I go into Download mode, the initial screen pops up, the one where you choose to hit up to continue, or down to reboot normally. After I hit up, the screen goes black and nothing happens.
I really need to get back to stock, as Bestbuy are being dicks, and demanding I do a factory reset before they send my phone in.
Anything? I still need help on this.

This has been covered at least 10 times in the past few months we need a sticky. Take your battery out hold your phone so the power button is facing a table or floor and slam that side a few times it should work again (Temporary). You might need to hit it on the surface really hard 10-20 times before it works. Just not to hard or else you might crack the screen. I used a mouse pad to soften the impact. This trick no longer works for me so I ripped the button off. After about a month of doing this I needed to use things that would only hit the button to make it work. About a month after that nothing worked so I just took it off the motherboard and now boot from a off state by plugging into the wall and enter odin mode deny the prompt and it kicks me into a workable state.

I can get into the system just fine. When I go into the recovery or download mode, it doesn't stay in that mode. I tried the banging thing, and it made my power button go from intermittently working, to not working at all.
keep doing it until it works. The button is sticking that is why it reboots/stopped working.

It sounds like your power button is physically broken, and it is activating intermittently, which is stopping the phone from entering download mode. My only experience with this problem is my own phone but ultimately mine got so bad that I had to rip the button off the motherboard, as ThePagel did. Your symptoms sound the same as mine.
You can try this procedure to get into recovery, which works for me without a power button. You will probably have the same problem you are having now with the phone rebooting on its own before you actually get into recovery, because the power button is activating.
1. Take the battery out of the phone and unplug it from USB power.
2. Plug in USB power.
3. While holding down the volume-down button and the Home button, insert the battery (this is a little tricky).
4. The phone should start and warn you that you are entering Download mode. If you want to use Odin to return to stock, do that now.
5. If you want to get into Recovery instead, press Volume Down to reboot and then *immediately* push and hold Volume Up and Home simultaneously. The phone should reboot into recovery. Mine does.
If that doesn't work, and you can't get a new phone without returning it to stock, then prying the power button off the phone's motherboard may be your only solution.
So my power button has stopped working. It started by constantly turning the screen on and off, then bringing up the power menu again and again. I left it overnight to sort itself out. When I woke up, the phone had managed to reboot into safe mode, and then I tried to reboot back to normal. Now, the power button (and volume) is completely non-functional and the phone is stuck in (stock) system recovery.
Is there any other way to get the phone to reboot normally without use of the physical buttons?
I'd like to be able to do a more recent backup before I get the phone replaced. Thanks.
Have you tried pressing or holding the yellow Off button under the microSD/nanoSIM flap?

Yes. It would reboot to the same recovery screen.
The phone eventually booted normally. I think there was water in the power button, causing it to register button presses on its own and eventually not responding to the button at all. It must have dried over time because the button works fine now.
Then do a backup and do it quickly, 'cause you don't know what it's gonna do next...

When you put the key in (just before engine start) hold resetbutton until you see the bootlogotype. It took me some tries.

The seller is no good. Only problems with him. I am in dispute with him becouse the screen is cut of almost 1cm at the botom.Ifvyou have any other seguestion i am all ears.
I wrote this in another thread, but you can try this method.
1) Hold power button to turn it off (about 5-10 seconds).
2) Let go and shortly afterward (1-2 seconds) hit the power button again. This should keep the unit off and prevent it from automatically restarting.
3) You can then hit the power button again to turn it on, and it should go into recovery
How to get into recovery on a BMW e46 (3Series)? There is no "Reset" Button to press on? Thanks

If your unit is anything like mine, the rst (reset) button does nothing to get you into recovery. The post by vnamee (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67552738&postcount=6) works for me. My unit does not have a recessed power button, it's just the volume knob.
Also, ignore step 3.

First it is wery important,to turn on the lights that you see what is hapenning on the unit. Then press and hold the reset button until the unit shuts off and the lights start blinking. Now the hard part. When the lights blink relise the reset button and when the lights go of pres the reset button.the screen will shut off then press the reset button once more and the unit wil go in to recovery.

After many attempts its works thanks.
To save thread space: (I came across this when I wanted to get into recovery mode but it didn't have my info)
I have a Joying RK3188 2-DIN 1024*600 unit. It has a power switch on the side (push the volume dial) and a res button recessed in a paperclip hole.
You don't actually need to use the RES although perhaps that's another way to do it.
To get into recovery mode hold down power. After ten seconds you'll see backlit keys blink three times quickly. Continue to hold the power key for three more seconds (I counted 1 Mississippi. etc because it's a little tricky there) Then release power and press it again normally a single time. Don't hold it this time.
Wait for the recovery mode to come up. If you see the joying or car icon you've booted too far and you need to retry. The three seconds after the blink seemed to be the key to it.
Before your flash I would practice rebooting and getting into recovery a few times so you know you've got it down in case something goes wrong.
this worked for me as well on my unit for chevy cruze. I just had to put my key on accessory. then 10 secs , 3 more seconds then push power one time.
I have a HotAudio MTCD unit and this has worked for me everytime.
Turn on your lights so that the hard key lights are on. Hold the power button for approx 10 sec until you see all of the buttons flash 3 times. Keep holding the power button for approx 3 more seconds, then release and immediately just press and release it again once. It will then boot right into recovery.
I have no idea why they made them so complicated to get into recovery mode with the 5.1.1 versions. All the old 4.4 versions it was simple as reset+power, let go of reset and hold power button. These new ones are much more tricky and you have to get the timing just right to get it into recovery. Usually takes many attempts for me to finally get it into recovery mode because I do it so rarely.
How to enter recovery?
I can't create new thread but have similar problems with Opel/Vauxhall Astra J headunit.
Android stucks just before launcher after rooting and installing Xposed and I don't have access to menu.
I want to make full system reset.
How to enter into recovery?
Hi
My Nexus 5 has entered into (what I believe to be) a hardware bootloop due to a faulty power button switch. I will look into getting it fixed locally but am currently wondering if there's a way to get the phone on (disabling the power button in some way?) in order that I can recover data from the built in storage.
I realise this is unlikely as it would involve some kind of invasive hardware trick.
On the basis that my phone may never turn back on, is there any way to extract data from the built in storage at all?
try smacking it into table below the power button. Seriously If it wont help, just pop off the back cover and using a knife or something "brake" the button, and insert the usb cable while holding volume down button,. then send "fastboot reboot" command. You are going to fix the button anyway, so breaking it wont matter
I had same problem. I took phone apart and soaked button side in pure alcohol. And then some tapping and pushing the button and it started to work.
The power button getting stuck has happened a few times to me. I literally just find a wood table and give a few stiff taps to the top corner of the phone (power button facing down). Always does the trick for me.

Thanks, but I've had no luck with this 'solution'. I have tried tactically hitting my device but no luck. Have also smacked it down out of anger and no luck either.
I think there are two distinct power button failures. One where the button still works but sticks and can be unstuck (I had this on my first Nexus 5 and it was replaced by Google out of warranty) and another where the power button module fails and becomes 'always on' needing replaced.
