[APP][4.4+] Splitterz: First Project on Android - Android Apps and Games

Hey, I am a german student, actually studying philosophy and sociology, but last year I started to look into development of mobile games. I am already working on this since last summer and now I am finally at a point, where I am willing to show it to other people and ask about opinions. This is the first time i coded something, but thanks to Unity and Visual Studio I achieved a pretty decent result I would say. For that purpose I learned a bit of C#(More than I would have thought of, to be honest ) Since probably everyone of you is more experienced on this topic than I am, I would be pleased if you could give me some feedback/ stuff I can improve or do better. One problem I dont really know how to tackle is the size of my Apk, i already compressed some of the images and got it down to 37 mb, but its still unproportionally big in my opinion, or is this normal? I will also upload a build for you without any advertisement
I would also appreciate advice on advertising, for when my game is polished enough for that.
Thanks alreaedy in advance for your feedback and fell free to ask any question

[REQ] Graphic artist required for nearly finished project

Hi all,
I've nearly finished a project that has been about 4 months in the making. I'm not going to go into detail about what it does or what it's for, but there are 2 applications - 1 on the PC where you make "project" files, and one for your phone where you utilise these project files.
I need some graphics doing for both apps (icons and splash screens).
I'll obviously give anyone that's interested more information about the app, but anyone that's interested let me know and, if possible, link or attach some of your work on here.
I honestly believe that this app will be a BIG hit, as it does a nearly unlimited amount of things. It will also replace the CHTEditor.
Anyone that gets their artwork in it will obviously be mentioned in both the thread and the app, so it will earn us both kudos! Me for my app looking great, and you for showing off your skills.
Thanks all!
I can do the odd graphic thing, Im not particularly good but I would be willing to have a go if no one else wanted to (which is very unlikely)
tbh I just want to know when its being release

Sounds interesting
I might not be skilled enough to work on the project but would like to see what I can accomplish. I am not a photoshop person; Illustrator is more my thing. I am also interested in designing effective and efficient layouts (page, screen etc.).

[Q] Coding Android Game - Where to Start?

Hello,
I would like to get into Android game development, mainly as a hobby, but given how obsessed I can get about hobbies I will not rule anything out! I have limited programming background (a bit of C, VBA, JavaScript...just the basics: variables, If/Else, For/While Loops, Arrays, functions, sub-routines etc..) but I tend to pick these things up fairly quickly....however I expect this to be a real long term project for me.
I have attempted to determine a sensible starting location and direction for a beginner to get started, but with so much information it really is a little overwhelming and I can't figure out what would be the most productive way to spend my time right now.
I gather that Android development requires Java knowledge, right? If yes, can anyone recommend any good websites/books with tutorials and code samples that can be used by someone who doesn't have an coding background already? To what sort level should I try to attain in Java before it's worth considering the Android specific side of development (I'm aware 'level' might be very hard to define!), or should I be thinking about these things in tandem from fairly early on?
If anyone has gone through a similar process, can you share your experiences? Pitfalls to avoid? Things not to overlook?
I have a couple of hours a night to dedicate to this for the foreseeable future, so any help filling that time efficiently would be much appreciated!
p.s. If there is a forum that is more suited to my question that I'm not aware of then please let me know!
Thanks!
Jess
I once wanted to become a droid developer too bro! I didn't get far though as I needed to focus on my day job more.
Anyway, what I did was learn about SDKs first. Just google it up, there are actually a lot of tutorials on the web. You'll need to be prepared to spend some money though for the SDKs.
you might get an idea here

good luck

Thanks for the advice, I noticed that google has it's own SDK, is it still worth investing in one of the other options?

Thanks for that. I've watched the first three so far, and have Eclipse & the SDK manager set up now. It was interesting to see that Android code is actually compiled twice, and given that the second stage doesn't have to be Java, it means that you can write the apps/games in something else, e.g. C.
Do you have any advice regarding which language would be the most sensible to code with? Apparently C is much faster for some things, so maybe it would make sense to dedicate myself to learning that rather than Java?
I don't know which would be best. All I can say is that I am learning java at the moment and hope to move on to android soon!!
Interesting to note Oracle are in court with Google at the moment in regards to copyright infringement. Android really is not a programming language , it's a mix of other languages....
I recommend this book...

You can obviously get it at other places, and cheaper than that too, but it's a great book. It covers setting up Eclipse and the Android SDK and gets you going with lots of the major elements of both Java and Android together.
I rate it, but I rate Sams books in general. They've always been good.

A Gentle Reminder and a Huge Thank You

I'm going to start off with the thank you portion.
I seriously want to thank every single developer, modifier, creator and contributor on this site. Without all your hard and continuous work, we'd all be stuck with stock ROMs. How awful would that be!! I am not nearly as gifted as you all or I'd be doing this myself.
This leads me to my gentle reminder.....
I understand people expect perfection in everything but it isn't there. I really wish people would remember that all the wonderful things they find on this site to make their phone/tablet experiences better are FREE!!! The people who develop all these ROMs do so without cost to use. There is the option to donate but they don't refuse anyone usage if they choose not to. They accept and even ask for people to share issues they may have with what they have created. They do this so they can make what they've created better for us. What they don't ask for, and don't deserve, is to be blamed or ridiculed for our ineptness. If one hasn't followed the OP's instructions and choose to modify things then the issue is theirs. Not the developers. They deserve constructive feedback not criticism.
Look at it like this. If our phone stopped working or was working poorly and we took it in to where we purchased the phone and the person working there took the phone apart. Cleared out all the crap and installed a whole new operating system...for FREE!!! We would be kissing their a**es. And we all know that would never happen!
So please, if you've installed any of the ROMs offered to you here, or used any of the radios or kernels suggested, then be appreciative when you you share how well it is or isn't working for you.
OP, well put and Thanks.

[APP][2.2+]SharedPreferences Sample (Source code and APK inside)

Right for the time being i'm going to keep things short and sweet.
I've been developing android apps since December last year and if I'm honest i love it but my apps just haven't worked out and it's knocked enough confidence for me to stop making apps and work on other things but i have actually missed the android world and i wanted to give a little back to community as a lot pro's on the internet have really helped me learn new things and although there's still ALOT i don't know, i know enough to help some beginners.
One of the hardest things i learnt was SharedPreferences because at first it just seemed way to hard and it was annoying because using SharedPreferences in your app can make a huge difference and once i knew the basics i realised how relatively easy it is so i put together 3 ways or examples on how to use it and those 3 things are...
Saving Text, Saving Integers and saving an image.
Now i am aware that there other things you can do with SharedPreferences but i find those 3 things quite useful.
I'm actually hoping to create more examples at some point so i can not only help other developers but just to make sure i keep my knowledge up to scratch.
Oh if anyone has any questions about the code or someone finds a serious mistake then please don't hesitate to ask me!
If you could give me a thanks then that would also be great as i wouldn't mind becoming a bit more known on here!
Thank you!! xD
This thread is also in the "Java for Android App Development" section so if either one is in the wrong place then please let me know, thank you.
