Android One Miracast/Screen Mirroring - HTC U11 Life Questions & Answers

Hello,
did anyone manage miracast with Android one version? I cannot connect. My phone does not find my TV. Maybe it is because I rooted?
Gesendet von meinem HTC U11 life mit Tapatalk

Same here with stock android one. Also, if I turn off wifi before searching for miracast devices, it doesn't even ask to turn it back on. Seems like a software bug for me.

Same,Same. It is not even podsible toll turn on the miracast option. Android one seems to be restrictiv af. It is time to get rid of it...

A strange thing is, that on every datasheet I found miracast was said to be possible with this device. But I did not manage to actvate it...
Any help, please?

Actually I chatted with HTC before I bought the phone and they said it supports miracast. I contacted support again but they couldn't help but wanted to forward the issue to some technical department, whatever that means. This was two weeks ago! Didn't heard something from them. Regarding the phone's behavior when I try to connect and the responses from support, I think it is meant to support miracast, but there's a bug. This is actual a real drawback as nearly every newer phone supports this I used to stream the screen often. Even if the support is disappointing, I think you should contact them too

Okay, I will.
And also I will try to use the Chromecast, as you find many descriptions of how to use it without WiFi.
Maybe that is an alternative.
Update:
I called German HTC-Support. The guy had to chat with Taiwan, cause he never heard about that problem. He promised to call back in 5 minutes....that has been 6 days ago.

Did anyone ever succeed getting Miracast to work with the U11-Life? Australian HTC support have been a pain in the ..... .

I found an article that miracast is no more supported by Android since 6.0:
https://www.pcworld.com/article/290...our-devices-screen-wirelessly-on-your-tv.html
So HTC seems to be one manufacturer that implemented it in sense again, but now in Android one it is too stock.
Gesendet von meinem HTC U11 life mit Tapatalk

Seems like you're right about that.
Here https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-X4/Miracast-for-Moto-X4/td-p/3982325 someone mentioned that it is possible to enable miracast for the X4 Android one if the device is rooted.
Unfortunately I've no experience rooting a device and therfore no clue if this will work with the U11 life. I really hope someone more versed could help and test it.

Seems like Miracast is missing on all stock Android devices. Beside the Moto-X4, Nokias and Pixel phones are affected.
Also someone managed to get miracast to work on the Pixel .
https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixelC/comments/435pny/miracast_is_unfortunately_not_possible_on_the/
It's all about changing one line in the build.prop and there's an app to do that on a rooted device.
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
Miracast will now be enabled, but you may need to turn it on in settings:
Go to Android Settings
Go to Display
Go to Cast Screen
Tap the button in the top right corner (vertical 3-dots)
Check mark Enable wireless display
Here is a guide to do that.
https://graesen.com/2015/03/how-i-got-wireless-display-miracast-to-work-on-my-nexus-6/
And here the app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.build.prop.editor
So I'm asking again for help. Could someone with a rooted device please test this method and report if it works.

You didnt even read the red notice on top of the article "Update Spring 2017: Some reports out there suggest this modification no longer works in Android 7.0 or newer. In order to use Miracast, you must be on Android 6.0 or earlier. "
This method doesnt work. In fact the "persist.debug.wfd.enable=1" entry is already present in stock rom.
I took my old chromcast2 and a smarttv with miracast and everything is working fine here. In every app that can stream something i get the button to start it and its working without any problems. Also with some apps you can stream the whole display content+audio, this is also working great except for the moment when you switch between apps the picture sometimes lags a little bit. Dont know why some people seem to have problems with that

I did read it, but I hoped it has a chance to work anyway. The article only "suggests"..... and in the X4 forum they mentioned that it still works
But if you really tried it, we now know it doesn't. Anyways , thank you.
BTW: Miracast is not Chromecast. I have not found one single person that was able to use miracast with a stock android version and I'm pretty sure that you were also using Chromecast. If I'm wrong, and you actually used miracast, that the wfd.enable=1 might be the reason. Maybe you can clearify if you really used miracast and if you changed something on your rom or so.
Miracast literally mirrors the screen, independent which app is open, and therefore works with all apps. The phone doesn't need to be connected to a wifi spot, as it needs for chromecast, as far as I know.
I need the support for miracast because I've 4 miracast adapters and am not really willing to dump them just because google wants to push its own streaming technology. I would rather give that money to a developer.

On the German Wikipedia side they write something realy intresting to miracast: "One problem in practice is the poor and incomplete implementation of manufacturers....... In practice this leads to the unfortunate situation that the coupling of Miracast sources and Miracast receivers becomes a game of chance." This was allways the biggest problem with miracast it can work with one device but not with the other even if both support miracast. I had a Sony Bluerayplayer with miracast support and over the years i was never able to connect a device to it.

OH Saturday_night, the wiki source for what you've quoted is from 2013, somewhat outdated in my opinion. Anyway I can not understand why this would possibly belong here.
This is not a thread about whether or not miracast is better than chrome cast. It's about finding a way to enable miracast, which is, as we know now, not supported on the stock u11-life a1.
Maybe there's someone else with a rooted device who can help and confirm this method doesn't work, or who can find a working method.

Miracast is a realy old technology and absolute outdated, a wiki entry of 2013 is the newest you can get. If you cant live with the fact that there are severall better ways nowadays thats your problem. Nobody ever compared or even tried to compare miracast and chromecast. If you dont know whats behind the technologies just stop argue for or against it. I just told everybody here (not you in person) that its working fine for me with the technology we have today. Maybe we should bring back the old UKW radio or Audio cassettes. Newer products will allways replace older ones, no matter if its hardware or software. You can do what you want to do with that phone, just put your 10 years old miracast dongles in the trashbag or hang it on your wall as decoration ;p Btw chromecast is also outdated, if you need some dongles for that i still have some which i dont need anymore.

please tell me a technology that allows me to mirror my screen (any app I want) from the U 11 life A1 to an external display, without the need of a WiFi hotspot.
If this is possible, at least I could replace my miracast dongles. As far as I know, thats not possible with Chromecast and I have not found any alternative that works with this phone. So please tell me about this new technologies that the u11 Life supports and that I'm not aware of. Or even tell me any other cast technology that the u11 Life does support.

Hello I've had a look into the build.prop and the line is in there. Also I have a menu point in developer tools to activate options for certification casts. But I cannot connect to my smart TV nor to my miracast dongle. It's from ezcast and it has its own cast that works but without sound. DLNA is no problem.
I have no idea how to activeta miracast. I tested some magisk modules without success.

[Q] anyone try to port sony tab s remote controll

Noob with a 6210. Peel sucks and I do want to use the ir to control stuff. Is it possible to get the the apk for Sony s tab remote and try to get it to work on this tab plus?
I searched and found not much but since the Sony finally has root I thought it might be a way to get this done.

U might want to wonder into one of their forums and ask one of the users if they would do you the favor of pulling that specific apk from their tab and have them upload it for u.

Why would u not just use peel? I've got at least 5 TV'S @lone nit to mention all of my other players. It is sometimes a pain but works. Maybe the Sony one is that much better?

On the face of it, the sony IR app is much better than peel, it supports sky uk satellite boxes and windows mediacentres, which I'm pretty sure peel doesn't, so I for one would love this app on my tab. I think I'll head over to the sony tab forum.

Peel sucks. Here's why:
1) Add an HDTV alone. So far so good as I can change inputs, channels, and volume on the TV.
2) Go to add a reciever. The self test powers the reciever on and switches inputs but when complete it will NOT save it to the room profile.
3) Start over andthis time tell Peel I use a reciever to adjust my volume. I select my TV and then it takes me straight to setting up the audio portion of the reciever. This saves both to my room profile but completely skips over the portion of setting my TV's inputs to make sure it's right for watching television. Kind of stupid that I have to use my TV remote to switch inputs on the TV now when Peel can/should be doing that for me.
4) Contact Peel and listen to them tell you that it's all the fault of the Galaxy Tab 7.0 + drivers and when ICS is released, with the updated driver, it might be fixed.
I've tried with a number of reciever & television brand combos to the extent of what I have in the house (3 TV's LG, JVC, Samsung and 2 AV Recievers Onkyo, Sony) and it does exactly the same with any combination of them.
Yup with the Sony u can control different equipment by choosing it from the main menu. With peel u can't
Thanks to the Sony guys for giving us the software packages now to start trying to get it to work and thanks to Paul for going over and asking for it

i have tried to get this to install but it wont so im gonna rename it and try to install it from the mnt asec folder. thats where most of my propriatary stuff gets installed on my HTC but i am new to the samsung game
also we may want to take this over to the DEV section and see if anyone in there can work some magic on it?
It would be wonderful if you can get this to work. All of my TVs are Windows Media center based.
ok I tried to install with es explorer. Took it over to the system/app . Then fixed permissions and still no luck. Went to the store and put esfile on a demo Sony and found a bunch of bin files in system/bin don't know if I needed them but pulled em with Bluetooth anyway. Will try to mess with it some more tomorrow.
Btw, Sony s is on ICS and its smooth even with the slower CPU.
Hear that Samsung? Get us some 4.0 and a decent remote app!!!!!!!!
Look in Play App store for Touchsquid app. It now works with the Tab 7 plus and Tab 2. The demo version works with both even though it wasn't very clearly stated that it works with the 7 plus. It definitely does work with the t 7 plus and is very promising. There are two paid version with different capabilities.

Is there a hack to make google now work when screen is off?

hi, I read that google now ("ok google") only activates when the screen is on. I was wondering if theres a hack or setting somewhere where you can activate it with the screen off? I mostly want this for hands-free use in the car, so I can avoid having to touch the phone while driving (big no no).
also, is there a site somewhere explaining all the features of what you can say/ask google now? or even a link with comparisons between siri and google now, and what google now cant do that siri does? I ask this cuz ill be coming from iPhone.
thanks.
I think that would really drain the battery - if possible!
However, here is a collection on some of the commands you can ask google now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1961636
I'm really surprised how great it works! And i live in Denmark, where i can't even take full use of everything
samsung has had this with s-voice. and i think motorola enabled google now to do this on the motox but i'm not sure. yes it drains battery, but how much? depends on the cpu and driver and the software involved..... i don't have my nexus yet so i can't say "how" to do this but i would expect it to be an eventual custom feature if not a future update if it's not already in a setting somewhere.

Everything I've read has claimed that the Nexus 5 should handle this as well as MotoX since it has the Snapdragon 800. Have we ever gotten an official answer on why this won't work?

hey thanks for the link. battery drain wouldn't be too much of an issue, as usually I would just use it while the device is being charged in my car, but it would be nice to use sometimes without as well, and while leaving the screen on would be nice, a slow charging car charger, is going to charge faster with the screen off, as that's usually the most power hungry lol. so it would be nice to have the voice activation at will while using.
If some of the launcher/search code was open source, I'd imagine this would be quite easy to do.
Pretty sure I read somewhere that the 'always listening' (for "OK Google" command) requires some hardware functionality. So no, it would not be possible like it is on the Moto X.

i'd imagine you could port parts of the moto x rom into the nexus. things like this have been done before. just have to find all the dependancies.

I mean, if you had access to the facilities used by the n5 launcher source, you could likely utilize them when screen is off via software pretty easily.

Yes. But from what I understand the snapdragon 800 has that hardware built in.

Video is about 1/2 way down on the right. Processor is capable.
Lets see if I can't clear things up. If you want your phone to be always listening, you need hardware support for it unless you want your phone to die in a matter of hours. If you are okay with this , check out this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.RSen.OpenMic.Pheonix It also lets you configure things like only when charging or just when the screen is on to save some battery, and its actually a very nice app overall. Worth checking out.
The Moto x has a special custom chip set that allows for this always listening. Any attempt to port that feature from the Moto x would fail, as the Nexus 5 doesn't have the same chip set. The nexus 5 however, does have hardware that allows for always listening, its part of the Snapdragon 800 SOC that powers this phone, along with the Note 3 and LG G2.
But getting the feature to actually work on our phones, even with the hardware, is by no means an easy task. Read the comments on this post if you want to get an idea for what this entails. https://plus.google.com/112424215551484520138/posts/AznwFxbBapJ
So is it possible? Yes. But it is not something that is gonna be a quick easy port of small modification of an existing app, it would take some real serious work form (maybe a team even of) good Dev's to make this function.
Sorry if its not the news you wanted to hear.

If you're plugged in/wireless charging Google Now Voice commands work with the screen off.
Settings>Language & Input > Voice Input> Enhanced Google services> "OK Google" Detection>From any screen> enabled
"responds to your voice. Works when the screen is on or the device is charging."
make sure the next option "personal results" is also enabled if you want Google Now to be able to do anything
Try this app, Open Mic+. It'll do the job.

mirroring s7 screen with netflix

I have a s7 which I use screen mirror to show my phone on my Samsung smart tv. (For reference before you ask tv has no Internet and phones got unlimited data) I mirror my screen with you tube and other video services, two weekends ago I mirrored netflix and watch 2 movies. This weekend when I connect with netflix running it just connects and then disconnects. If I connect then open netflix, as soon as it opens the screen goes black and disconnects. I tried netflix support and they was unhelpful. I also connected my TV and downloaded a firmware update, thinking that was a issue. Phones up to date and all involved devices are up to date.
I wonder about copyright issues with digital media, can't mirror to second screen for recording. I asked netflix, of course he said no. However I don't think he understood what I was asking. Props to him for doing his job, however I needed someone with knowledge of their software.
I also just tried it from my asus tablet and same issue. So multiple devices and same issue, comon item is the tv. I performed a factory reset on my TV and no resolve and updated firmware version.
Like I said before it worked 2 weeks ago, now it doesn't. However youtube, fullscrean, directv, and Hulu all work just fine.
Any suggestions?
Same problem here. I found your post because I am trying to resolve. It seems to be a problem with Netflix, since it's the only app that forces the screen mirroring to close. I hope someone has an answer soon. I just got really hooked on watching Netflix again since we've been able to download their shows and watch later. I don't have internet at home, but can download over wifi at work. Come on, guys! Help us out.

I know I'm on a trial of netflix, however I don't see a use in keeping it... a 5in screen if I can't share to my 70in. Phones to small and tablet isn't much better.
Any one got a idea, come on people need assistance here...
My netflix works fine streaming from both my S7 and my HTC 10, difference is it's a Panasonic Tv. Samsung TV's are a PITA i've found and I struggled to screen cast to two different Samsung TV's with my S7.
Not what you want to hear i'm sure.
I understand what your saying but how come all works until Netflix is open. Once the loading N appears it disconnects and won't reconnect until I close the Netflix app. I will make a video of it tomorrow. I'll also try to track down someone with a smart TV to try theirs.
Same problem here..any info would be greatly appreciated...Hulu direct tv everything else works fine except for netflix..some days it will work most days no luck..my tv is a sharp roku tv and it worked fine until late recently

I understand what he's saying about a Samsung TV, but you got a sharp. Also it's multiple devices and only one single app that's common having the issue. Directv, vudu and full screen works fine, so does youtube.
the cheap is you buy some cheap wireless router and sync with your samsung s7 or make wifi hotspot from your samsung s7 and then connect your smart tv. but remember maybe when you share screen this share send data to samsung and all share that you see it can see samsung too. yestarday i share samsung s7 with my smart tv and when i block the smart tv program it didnt work, so maybe it when you unblock the screen sharing it send all what you see with samsung, and man be carefull becouse when you netflix screen share maybe it record what you screen share, this too do it teamviewer, you screen share with teamviewer but after that teamviewer can see all what you had screen share, and if you ask teamviewer to stop record your screenshare they will lie like obama.

What about sharing from my Asus tablet, also tv doesn't have Internet. Only the Asus and s7, they connect to the TV via direct WiFi connection.
if your tablet support make wifi virtual router then it will work. im glad that your tc donr have internet becouse you pay much money and they spy on peoples and i kust remember if you have laptop then it too can make virtual router, you need to see in windows and in linux.

Has anyone had any success? This seems like a failing issue to get resolved. There has to be some one there smart, I'm a 13 year network administrator and I've hit a snag. I see multiple people with issues, yet no resolution.

Haha brain fart.... I totalled missed the pita... I got it...
Just a thought but is it looking for your TV & phone to be connected to the same WiFi network (through a router) rather than using WiFi Direct? Just a distinction I found when pairing my account with an app eg. Waukitv.

Unless the hardware is relying on it, I don't think so. The only Netflix setting is a selection of internet speed. The purpose of Wi-Fi direct is a private direct connection. Also just got the Android N update and still no difference... Also wow it changed the looks of my phone. Especially the settings window.
I am having the same exact problem. I have a pretty for signal 4G 2 bars, but I still can watch other things using screen mirroring...just not netflix...which is the only one I really wanted to watch. Any luck at all, anyone?

I really hope they have an answer for you. I called the general line on Sunday...got pushed to Verizon...then to Samsung...they all say it is the other ones problem....I am betting on Netflix. Keep us in the loop.
I called Netflix and didn't stop pushing until I made it to a engineer, the only screen mirror software they support is second screen and google cast. Other may work but are found to be unstable and unreliable. I will follow up once I've had a chance to test with my results.

Confirmed working Miracast in any rom?

I just got a Pixel, and I'm ready to sell it if no roms support Miracast. Chromecast is not an option - I need a phone that works with the Miracast standard. I have tried to mirror to a LG TV as well as trying two Miracast adapters (Microsoft and generic models). None have worked.
On both the Nougat and Oreo factory images, Rooting and editing build.prop did not work. The adapters/TV are visible, but the connection always fails.
Before the phone goes on Swappa, has anyone had success using Miracast with any rom. I searched, but the only results are those of people asking the same question as me.
Thanks for any info...

Seems like I researched this in the past, but came to the same conclusion; that it was not possible. I tried for a while and just wouldn't connect. Sorry Boss

I have great news - I was able to get Miracast screen mirroring to work using the CRDroid rom (https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel/development/rom-crdroidv3-2-t3607271?nocache=1). You still need to edit build.prop (add the line persist.debug.wfd.enable=1) and turn on wifi. After reboot, the phone immediately found the TV / adapter, and connected. I was able to mirror my screen, view pics, and a video. Another plus is that this particular rom is incredibly smooth and fast - even more than stock Oreo.
I'm glad I don't have to sell the phone now. Hope this info helps others with this question.

I just got the Pixel 2 XL, but same issue. Have not rooted my phone yet, or any phone actually, but I am willing if this will allow Miracast. Do you think it should work for me? Wifi is not an option so Chromecast is out and Pixel/Pixel 2 don't support hardwired options. What do you think?

This is great news! I always had thought it was hardware driven, but fantastic to hear that software was able to enable it. I wonder if @BeansTown106 knows about it? I believe he is currently compiling the next PureNexus Rom based on Oreo 8.0. Would LOVE to see this feature added in the next revision.

are you sure its working ?
can you send screenshot
thanks
I just got Miracast working with "crDroidAndroid-8.1-20180405-marlin-v4.1" for the Pixel XL. I just went into settings - connected devices - cast - then hit the three dots in the upper right hand corner to 'enable cast'. then on my Fire Stick I started device mirroring. Bingo! Fire Stick shows up as connected. Works with VLC and Youtube testing so far. Sound and video. Rotation of phone to horizontal creates full screen (55" TV) mode. I have magisk 16* installed but there are no settings I used in that app for this to work, just wanted it noted as it is the only none stock app installed so far.
Linuxmon
UPDATE: Didn't notice I was in Pixel not Pixel XL forum. Hopefully sailfish works as well.
Web video caster works well for me on all ROMs and I'm using firehound ROM atm, just make sure you turn battery optimisation off for this app and adjust your setting's to your needs. I've tried many casting apps and this one seems to be the most stable best one I've found. See below where you may need to tick boxes to suit your TV/miracast needs. Also make sure you have no other apps running, only this one and that your on same WiFi network too as well other device on same network. Hope this helps

Pre-Purchase question on display - Huawei Watch 2 Sport

Hi guys, i'm coming from the Moto 360 Sport, and interested in getting the Huawei Watch 2 Sport, simple because Moto crippled it after the AW 2.0 upgrade, ridiculously slow to use now.
With the Moto 360 Sport, it did have a display feature called "AnyLight ", that displays in 'any light' and i loved that.
Motorola accomplishes it by combining a traditional backlit LCD in "transmissive" display with reflective backing. Or something like that.
Anyway, I really like this feature, see screens attached.
I was wondering what the Huawei Watch 2 Sport/Classic screens look like in dim/ambient mode. Does it have this idea?
Anyone care to share some photo of this, as I've read/watched so many reviews, but cannot see what this looks like.
Thanks a lot.
Darren.
Hw2 is amoled so in ambient modes is uses much much less battery because of the black pixels being off, but this feature that you're talking about is not available in hw2, however the watch display is very sharp and shiny even in direct sun light.
also be aware that amoled screens get damaged (burn-in issue) if a pixel is on a particular color for a long time, meaning that for example on ambient mode there are numbers around the screen that are always on, this may cause those numbers to burn in the screen so even when you are in a completely different screen, you will still see those numbers! (for more info google Burn-in)
Just adding to what was already said regarding burn in. Most watch face makers that support ambient move include a feature which shifts the pixels around ever so slightly to prevent burn in. A very simple yet elegant solution to the problem.

yeah if that's as you said it would be great, I havent noticed it yet
So I just found something interesting. Under developer options > Wear Developer options there is a "force anti burn" setting. Set this up now to give it a try.

I actually forgot to check this and you are right. So stupid.
hi seems like relevant topic for my question.
are there many disadvantages to get the wifi only (non 4G) of this huawei watch 2? (i get the obvious i cant put sim card and get direct internet connection of course). for example:
will the NFC still works on the non 4G model?
how about the xda community ie root twrp and custom rom? less or more than global version?
any other important things i need to know when deciding to get wifi only or 4G?
thank you.

Live tracking during runs is the sole reason I got the 4G version. Have to say love the watch.

ah, so GPS is independent on the 4G versus assisted ie need to be connected to phone for the wifi only.
i can live with that. i dont run alot yeah lazy me.
anything else? NFC and the custom roms are interchangeable?

No, GPS independent.
Live tracking = data connection for mapping run location remotely.

sorry got it mixed up. before, i thought GPS live tracking need constant internet connection and you dont want to carry your phone while jogging.
ok got it now.
also by googling i think NFC works on both model but ofcourse the wifi model will need to be connected to phone to be able to use NFC android pay for example, i assumed
