Made the dumb mistake of not backing up before I messed with my system fonts because I thought I could just revert with iFont. That wasn't the case lol. Anyone here have a flashable zip with the stock 8.1 fonts for the OG Pixel? The ones I've found only have Google Sans alone or Roboto alone, not combined like it's supposed to be on 8.1.
EDIT: Made my own flashable zip. Just took the default fonts and put them into a custom zip and flashed. Don't know why I didn't think of that sooner.
Just flash stock without -w. Should replace fonts and keep data

im running beans rom and i know it uses the aroma installer. usually with my previous phones i could mod the systemUI or framework.res and create a flashable zip and flash through recovery. it seems with this particular rom you cannot do that or you will get system crashes and or a bootloop. the only way ive found to flash a theme i create is to use the vrtheme folder method where it mods the apk instead of replacing it in a whole. "hope that makes sense?"
what im trying to do is change the lockscreen text color to ics blue which ive done on several other phones. since the xml im editing for the colors is in the layout folder i think i need to flash the entire framework.res and i cannot do that. i tried to just flash the layout folder via the vrtheme method and i was sent into a bootloop.
can i get any advice from a themer on what im doing wrong? usually the mods i do work with no issues and im pulling my hair out about this.
I mess with my phone's cosmetics on a daily basis. I switch between themes all the time. With cm7 and ADW launcher there are just so many customizations. I also use zip themer frequently to build modded zips for any given theme. I recently built and flashed a zip that modded my lockscreen and added some cool animations and custom transitions. When you build a zip with zip themer it creates an update zip and an undo zip. I tried flashing the undo zip to get rid of the modifications and it didn't work. I even tried rebuilding the zips and flashing again. Nothing. I was was forced to restore with a nandroid. If this happens again, is there a way to get rid of it without having to do a restore?
Maybe copy your systemui.apk and framework-Res.apk beforehand and try manually pushing them back through adb....or better yet stick them in a flashable zip and flash them.
In cm recovery,
Try mounting system, then flashing the undo.zip
Then clear cache and dalvik and reboot.
This is the only way flashing themes and mods works for me. Good luck!

That's a great idea twitch....however I don't know how to use ADB all that well, maybe I'll just zip them up next time. Would I have to delete my modded systemui and framework-res apk's before or after flashing back to my normal ones?
Eric, I actually tried that exact method. Mounted, flashed cleared my caches aannnnd nothing =( It was after this that I knew I was kinda screwed lol. Also, I think I know what may have caused the glitch. See, I flashed a morph for a specific theme.....Then I changed themes WITHOUT removing the morph. Think thats what made it screw up?
I think... the flashing would overwrite the modded ones. But I've never actually tried it so probably keep a nandroid handy.
Actually another great tool for this would be the aroma file manager. You can use it from recovery to push the apks and set the right permissions. I like that idea

Oh and yeah maybe mounting system would do it. That would be super easy lol
While trying to install a new font (Calibri) i managed to create a problem for myself.
The font pack i had for this had 4 files and i used "ROM Toolbox" to attempt the install. What i did not know was that by default it overwrites old fonts with the new ones. It overwrote the font files "arial.ttf, Clockopia.ttf, DroidSans.ttf and Roboto-Regular.ttf" under /system/fonts. And the new font didn't even work, so the new files aren't reading correctly at all.
I need some way to restore these files. I have TWRP installed and a good backup, several months old tho. But i would rather not restore the entire system if there is a better way to get just these 4 files.
Also, can someone recommend a better way to get specific fonts? I would like Calibri (including bold and italic) and maybe a few others as well.
Thanks,
Not sure on restoring, but I use an app called iFont from the playstore to install and manage my fonts.
I can't find it anyplace, and I don't see anyplace in the HTC theme app to use already existing fonts, it seems to only allow you to use cloud fonts.
Anyone know how to change the fonts other than via "font style", without physically overwriting the existing system font with a different one?
I'm rooted, and fairly good with a terminal if needed, though would prefer a chooser with a GUI.
Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried Googling "flashable fonts?" I haven't used any on this phone (yet...you have sparked my interest in that again...), but you can download fonts that are flashed through recovery.
The ifont app allows you to upload your own fonts if you don't already see it in their choices.
If you use the stock theme app you can download fonts from there
Sent from my HTC U11 using XDA Free mobile app
If you can find font APK, install it then choose it in Theme app.

I've got the fonts on my phone, in the /system/fonts/ folder with the stock ones, same permissions,. etc. but I see no place to change from the stock font to one of them instead. in older versions of android there was a 'Font Style' section to change the system font, I don't see it on the U11 at all.
The HTC theme app, and all the APK's I've seen, either force you to download fonts or rename fonts to the stock font (like 'roboto.ttf') and overwrite it, to trick the system; or both.
I don't have a problem getting fonts on there, I'm asking how do I take the fonts I have, and change the system font to one of them, like the (apparently deprecated) 'font style' section in settings allowed you to?

Not sure if stock Android always had a theming engine. From what I've seen only Samsung stock ROMs and Xiaomi phones have that support. But a rootless theming engine is coming in Oreo for sure:
https://www.xda-developers.com/android-oreo-rootless-system-theme/
Anyway the way I change font without overwriting existing font is, copy whatever fonts I want to /system/fonts, change those fonts to permission 644, and then edit /system/etc/fonts.xml to override the existing sans-serif fonts, which is usually the Roboto family. This works for other languages as well if you scroll down.
Every time you change this will require a system reboot to utilize the new changes, so I usually do this in twrp

Can anyone help with flashing Google Sans Project Font on MIUI 10. I followed the procedures from this link - https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max-2/themes/font-android-oreo-8-1-google-sans-t3694864
But, after flashing the MIUI_TWRP zip, after rebooting to the system there is not change. Can anyone try it on MIUI 10 and provide a workaround for this.
Trying the normal procedure of applying through Themes app doesn't work for Bold and Italic alphabets. Also, the wallpapers keep getting reset.
Thank you

Ok, found the workaround. This post was incomplete and not detailed, your phone needs to be rooted first to have it work. This should have been mentioned in the prerequisites.
