Wanting to upgrade Tracfone Galaxy S6 SM-S906L from 5.0.2 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

So it seems I was sold a bill of goods by Total Wireless. 18 months after buying a brand new S6 I am still stuck on Lollipop with no hope of a system update (apparently TW is the last to update.) The apps I need to run my business now require Marshmallow or better.
Has anyone found a way to root and update this phone?
I'm a newbie to cellphone rooting but do have an engineering degree and can follow a good set of instructions!
Please tell me I don't have to throw out this piece of junk just yet!
Thanks!

Total Wireless Galaxy S6: Need Help Installing TWRP

Hello All,
I just purchased a Galaxy S6 today. Previously I have used (and loved!) the OnePlus One. I was actually hoping to upgrade to the OP3 here soon. However, a new job, a new town, and apparently a new phone. The only service that works where I live is Verizon. OP phones are not compatible with Verizon. :crying::crying::crying: So I must retire my poor baby and move onto a inferior product (based on how 'easy' it has been to install a custom ROM).
When I was doing the OP1, it was easy. I could do it in my sleep. The GS6 on the other hand, I can't even find a method of installing TWRP which actually works. I know that Total Wireless uses Verizon towers so I imagine that I basically have a Verizon phone. Is this possible with this phone?
I really can't stand the version of Android that is installed on this thing. Plus the bloat ware is making me sick already. HELP!!!!

Sorry, no way to root a Verizon S6.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Can you recommend a good phone like the OP phones that are Verizon compatible?
Nexus 6p will work.

Questions regarding Android OS & Security Updates

So a couple years back on Black Friday I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 from Cricket Wireless at a price of $200 and at first I felt like I got a great deal. I thought I was going to get the AT&T branded S4 (i337), but instead I got an obscure Cricket branded S4 (i337z). I was frustrated when the AT&T version received the update to lollipop but mine didn't. I'm looking to buy a new phone and have been doing a little research into it, but I still have a few questions.
1. Are unlocked cell phones more likely to get an android OS update than a carrier branded phone? Do they get them faster?
2. If I bought an unlocked Samsung or a Google Nexus, would I be able to update the OS without a Carrier OTA?
3. I've heard that Samsung & Google are now offering monthly security updates, do they rely on the carrier to push these updates or does it update directly from Samsung/Google? Will I still receive these security updates on a prepaid carrier like Cricket?
4. Are carrier branded phones even worth considering in your opinion?
Thank you for your time, and sorry for the newb questions.
Anyone have anything at all to add to this thread?

UAE galaxy note5 in the UK

Hi
I'm sorry if this question is in the wrong place, or has been asked before, but I'm in a bit of a flap trying to sort out a problem I have created for myself.
I recently bought a new UAE galaxy note 5 in the UK thinking that it would be like buying an iPad, that they are international devices that can be used (and updated) in any territory.
More fool me.
I now see that my phone is "stuck on" android 6.0.1 and I can't update the firmware to Nougat or later OS's.
Is it possible to safely convert my UAE phone so that it runs a standard UK android OS as normal and gets future UK updates as they are released.
If possible; I'd rather do this in the simplest, quickest and safest way, withiut rooting (if possible).
Thanks for your help...

What is the newest Android OS that can br rooted?

Hi guys, im with metro PCS and my old mega broke. I bought a new j7 LG because i thought it could be rooted and the more i looked into it Nougat boot is still locked up tight and what people wanted to do was flash it. That's not what i want
So i have to buy a new, but older, Metro PCS phine, one that can be rooted.
What do you suggest that is compatible to the j7 price but is rootable?
I've only got about 150 to spend
Thanks

All Android OS is rootable, The part on the locked bootloaders is completely up to the OEM's on whether or not they lock them or allow for an unlock method or even better, Dont ship with a lock at all. All in all, Its all up to the OEM.
OEM's have various reasons for doing this such as protecting their assets, Making it so that there's no replacement claims caused by users failing to root and bricking the device, The list goes on to be honest. Too many to list.
As for what phone should you get, I'd suggest finding the phones within your price range and then see if a forum/threads exist within XDA for it and decide which ones the one to get based on that.

Verizon Galaxy S6 SM-G920V, Android 7.0, Root

I just received my new phone today as my secondary rooted phone, although I now feel like I bought the one wrong model out of the bunch.
For the life of me I cant find any way to root this phone online, I am hoping someone can tell me if its possible. I dont care if I trip knox or its a paid program i have to get to run, I just want to make it happen. so any and all help would be appreciated.
I am truly sorry if there is a current thread that answers this, but so far everything I have found is pretty old.
On a similar boat and it seems that Nougat cannot be rooted. You can downgrade to 5.1.1 and then root but that seems not worth it as you are giving up features that are available only in Nougat. I myself might just switch to a tmobile S6 motherboard. I have the Verizon S6 variant but I'm on T-Mobile.
I can really care less about the services lost in the downgrade. If you know how i can downgrade to 5.1.1 to then mod, I'd still love to do it. I already have a S9+, S8 for back up and an apple s6. I really want to mod this Verizon, or it will have no use

I'm fine with downgrading as long as that means I can root my phone, is there any kind of tutorial for downgrading?
