Hi
I had a Gear S3 last year and got rid of it due to the excessive battery drain introduced with Tizen.
I've read that an update has now fixed this issue.
Can anyone confirm it has actually fixed it?
Thanks

it depends, i never had any issues with battery drain before the update, now i do
Same here. I didn't have problems after the first update and I didn't have problems after the "fix" they sent out.

Me neither, thank goodness...no issues before 3.0 or after but obviously there should be another update as so many folks are indicating they have major battery drain after Tizen update, I am really disappointed in Samsung for not announcing that they are aware of the issues And are working on it?? Curious why some don't have any issues and others do?

I just posted today how I fixed the battery drain issue in this same section for anyone interested: https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s3/help/3-0-issues-t3746851
I just returned it, awaiting my refund from Samsung. Better to send it in for warranty and get the money back then to deal with this issue.

Which battery issues?

What battery issues? Ive had none. People that complain about battery issues are usually the ones creating them by not watching their apps and regulating them when needed..

well you gotta listen better and not to the people that create their own problems. PLUS battery life is based on everything done by the user.
There was a recognised bug about camera that would eat battery that should have been fixed but honestly I never faced it with previous versions. Try searching the Web or aosp commits for more info.
The only battery issue I can think of (aside from the camera_daemon one) is the nlpwakelocks which are caused by location ping. But neither bug is only Nexus related - other devices have them too and both can be avoided with workarounds.
So I just got an update on my Gear S2, SM-R720. I believe this is the one that brings features from the S3?

I'm assuming your Gear S2 is BT/wifi, not 3G/4G? Has anyone in the US on 3G/4G gotten the update on T-Mobile? Thanks.

Not for me yet.
Just a heads up. My battery life tanked after the update regardless of what I did. What fixed it was recharging a couple times. For some reason that worked.

No, it's really crazy that the $300 version of the Gear S2 still does not have automatic sleep tracking. I wish I could just flash it to the generic Samsung 3g firmware and be done with T-Mobile, but it doesn't seem to be a possibility (I started a thread here, but no responses so far: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s2/general/gear-s2-3g-t-mobile-version-flash-to-t3518844 ).
I'd also complain to T-Mobile directly, maybe if enough of us complain, they'll do something about it.

Hi rogerperk,
I have same Gear S2 732 in same firmware as you (in France), and for me too, battery drain is present
Sure, not as much as you, but now, I've got a "low battery alert 15%" at 23h00 when, before, I get to bed at 00h30 with 35-40% battery left ! For sure, there is something that change (same watchface as before) !
Sadly, 2 charging (and even more than 10 actually) dont change anything for me
Best regards
Not good. I recharged mine a couple times and did a factory reset and that seemed to do it. I'm actually getting far better battery life now. Over 24 hours and I'm only at 77%! I hope that keeps up! I cut out alot of stuff I don't use like NFC and constant wifi and heartrate checks. That sort of stuff.

I was looking to buy this phone but I note its having some major issues: http://www.androidheadlines.com/201...ers-reporting-premature-battery-shutdown.html
Anyone know just how widespread the issues are? Is it too risky to buy?
I have had the VZW Pixel 128GB from the day of release, installed all the updates as they were released. I have experienced no issues whatsoever in all the time I have had it. I have unlocked, rooted, unrooted, installed 2 different custom kernels and stock. Through all this I have had 0 issues with the phone. I love it.

It is not a major Pixel issue. It is a minor Android 7 issue. It is happening at low levels to a few phones. I don't even recall seeing anyone in these pixel forums about it.
I have this issue, on the regular (non-XL) Pixel. I first noticed it between Christmas and NYE, the device shut down at around 20% battery. It's now happening almost every time the battery drops below 25%, albeit at slightly different capacities each time (between 18-25%). This morning I used the "chat" option to discuss with Support, without noticing the new security patch released this morning. So now I'm running my battery down and waiting to recreate the issue. Support played dumb and said they hadn't heard of the issue.

Did the security patch help? I had the same issue on my 5" Pixel (around 10% though) and did a factory reset (with only the most necessary apps installed), since then the problem is gone. BUT i also received the January security patch on the same day, so i don't really know what fixed it.
What i also recognized on my screenshots and my others that were posted on this matter, is the wrong Awake/"Aktiv" indicator before the shutdown happened (see the attached screenshot). IMO, this may point to a software issue, not an actual faulty battery or cool temperatures.
Hello
I have the same issue
I am use XL device . this issue happen to me 3 times . first time was before a month when the battery come to 50% the phone shut down
second time was before tow days and the same issue happened before 3 hours :crying::crying:
I dont know if the hardware problem or software problem
Please help :crying::crying::crying:

Nothing new that i know of, i didn't run into this problem since the factory reset. Maybe, in some cases, it's a hardware issue after all? Does your awake-log look faulty as well?

Yes, exactly the same as you described, even with the false activity line as shown on your picture. Does this work now too after your factory reset?

Yes, it happened after new years, when the device was just about a week old and did not occur since then. This is from yesterday (regular Pixel), while i never crack the 5h mark with mixed usage: https://goo.gl/photos/Yui6D3sdSK8gyFax9
These are from when the first or second early shutdown occured: http://imgur.com/a/4g0V5
I find it a bit weird that this is not a bigger topic on XDA, there are a "lot" of posts in the issue tracker, the pixel user community and even a some on reddit from time to time.

Okay, I'm not 100 % sure but I think this happened first time after the February update. Looks like I should do a factory reset. Let's see if this works for me as well.
Will report, thanks.

5.3 update is the culprit. Rollback to 5.2 update or wait for new release. Nvidia said new 5.4 with battery and other security fix will be released by the end of this month.

The newest today's update is only 173.4MB, but what's in it? I don't see any specific descriptions beside the security patch.
Now, what about that ASD4 update(in OP post above, 244.55MB) I've never gotten that one in the US, they mention camera software improvements in there, am I still gonna get it? All the different regions create lots of confusion.
