Don't know if it is safe but don't think it is wise.
"Stock OB3" is a misnomer. OB3 might be officially from Essential but it is not "stock". It is a beta build distribution designed for testing and feedback...

Sounds about right. Didn't take chance, restored 7.1.1 before relocking. It's for a waranty exchange

Brand New Warranty replacement S3 4.3 - Am I screwed?

So my last s3 stopped working and I got a new one sent via my extended warranty. Previously I had an unlocked bootloader and root running gummy 4.4 which was awesome! My new phone came stock with 4.3 touchwiz which I am reading might be bad news. So here are my questions:
1) Is there really no way to unlock the bootloader on 4.3?
2) What are my alternatives to installing custom roms?
3) Is safestrap a stable/safe option even though its in beta?
4) Can safestrap be reversed if a method for unlocking the bootloader is revealed?
5) Where can I find a rooting tutorial for 4.3? Can I lose root easily/ corrupt my phone if a Samsung update is applied?
6) Should I wait for a downgrade option? Slash is it supposedly possible (twitter update)?

As of this minute, one option: Saferoot then Safestrap.

Yup. Read the replies in Safestrap if you need reassurance.
4) Can safestrap be reversed if a method for unlocking the bootloader is revealed?

Yup, you could even Odin flash VRUCML1 4.3 tar and be back to "normal" again. However, don't count on the 4.3 bootloader being unlocked. There's no guarantee anyone is even utilizing their time to find an exploit and its entirely possible no one is.

Read me. Use Saferoot, then SafeStrap. Yes, much worse could happen in a future update as well.

That's your call. It's possible, but whether it comes to fruition is entirely different.

Im in the same situation as OP.. Xposed works. I'm on alliance 23.
I was wondering can we flash custom kernels then flash the dependencies or are we stuck with the safestrap kernel?

I think flashing a custom kernel isn't suggested with SafeStrap. I don't know the specifics, maybe @BadUsername or someone else can expand on that? I thought I read that you are still running the stock kernel even if you flash a custom kernel when using SafeStrap. Someone was discussing this before but it was not explicitly proven they were in fact running the custom kernel.

Good deal! Glad xposed works. How you liking alliance by the way? I'm torn between that and clean rom. I'm actually not the most familiar with TW roms currently. Before this replacement phone I was all ASOP.

I've come to the conclusion I want to use my partitions to the full capacity so I'm sticking with stock rom + xposed for any modifications I need..
Yeah same here, I was AOSP for awhile soon as I discovered Quantum Kernels..

Quantum Kernels huh. Not familiar with those kernels. Ill have to check them out. I would use the stock rom as well Im just worried about a random automatic update that would kill root and make my replacement phone even more useless than it already is without an unlocked bootloader. Do you know if there a way to disable the Samsung update center on the stock rom using root?

Newest stock OTA zip inside, will someone root it for us?

OTA file to bring the m8 on Verizon up to 4.17.605.9 and patch stage fright exploit.
Would a dev be kind enough to put together a rooted version on this? I do not know what else is included in this update so feel free to grab it from my Dropbox and tear it open. ? thanks in advance!

I haven't installed the OTA on my phone. I have twrp so it fails and I just didn't want to chance losing root by flashing back to stock recovery.
Anyone else want to give it a go and get this man the system pull??

Might as well just flash the firmware and stock rooted rom then. :good:
Full stock rooted is purely stock, plus root , insecure boot and busybox.

You know it just really makes me wonder. I ruu'd lollipop firmware and accepted the ota while I was still on stock android recovery. Is the new official marshmallow update root able?

Just as the title says. Of the people that have gotten the new update. Is your phone rooted again? If yes please tell us this:
what model do you have?
what is the update version you have?
What approach or tutorial you used to root?
i hv 920I
i used CF auto root for rooting
There is no official MM update

I know that beta just came out and people are joining. Aside from 920F I want to know if they are going to beta test other models or not and if Root is still possible.
Now that the new official MM is coming, who has been brave enough to try it and see if root works or not?
I buy samsung for the root if not...i have to go with nexus and motorolla...i think i will go with droid turbo 2 at least i will not worry about droping it on the ground who cares as long as samsung makes type this devices that cannot support Roms...they will Fail soon just like nokia failed...imagine if samsung makes unrootable device just like knox stuff....LOL shut down the factory !
Now that the official update is out, has anybody confirmed systemless root via SuperSU? My Knox isn't tripped and want to keep it that way.

S7 G930F rolling back to original Nougat

Hello guys,
I have been following XDA for quite long time now and always could find answer for my question but this time I gave up..
I was so amazed by S7 performance that I never though I would need to go CF. 7h SOT on WiFi was common and 4,5h on 4G. But after Oreo came up it gotten worse and worse.
I really would like to roll back to Nougat offcial - so far I learned there is no way to achieve that easily but since I didnt find any straight answer I started to wonder if that is even possible?
At the moment Im on Oreo v.4 BL and custom Kernel which was supposed to help with battery drain on 4G...i mean it does a bit but this is still not what I am looking for.
Have anyone found a solution for draining?

Looks like flashing a custom 7.0 ROM is the best we can do for now
From what I understood, it's not possible to downgrade stock official nougat. Only custom ones using the oreo bootloader.

So what is the closest to official 7.0 ?
I have tried Lineage 16 lately but didn't like it. Not to mention that drain was still there...

I flashed this Nougat Devbase it is 100% like stock but after flashing my baseband was unknown, so after flashing rom i went to download mode and flashed CP file from my stock firmware in download mode and then my signal and everything working on my Bit 4 S7 on Nougat.

Come on now you know its not that simple, bootloader doesn't reside on same partitions you can wipe with rom installs.
If I knew it wasn't that simple I wouldn't have asked. I figured if ROM's can update bootloaders they could downgrade them too.

We cant downgrade the bootloader. I also want back Nougat! Its was very better in battery life
So I have checked both Lineage and RR but it was even worse.
Yesterday in the morning I installed the latest stock Oreo XEO G930FXXS4ESC1 and the latest TGP kernel - it seems promissing. Got 3h25min SOT using only mobile network.
My battery life is 81% so the result with TGP is the closest to what I was gettin on Nougat.
If that keeps up I will stay with it. But I think I will give a try with Superman Rom v2.90.

Yes. There is an MSM Tool in the guides section of the 7 Pro forums of XDA. there are actually 3, but you're looking for the one to revert back to stock T-Mobile firmware.

If I recall correctly, it'll even relock the bootloader, though you could just relock it yourself before using the tool to make sure. There's no flags tripped or anything like Samsung's Knox counter.
