Unsuccessful Unrooting of AT&T G930A using Kies or Samsung Switch - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hi all,
I successfully rooted my S7 from Nougat using the guide below:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/heres-how-rooted-nougat-s7-edge-g935t-t3567502
But performance seems to be suffering since then. I'd like to unroot back to stock, but:
1. Can't find a stock firmware image of G930A to use with Odin
2. The newest version of Samsung Switch no longer has the "Device Initialization" tab as shown in the guide here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QhJngOuLQ4
3. I've tried with Samsung Kies as well, which seems to not properly recognize my device serial number.
Has anyone had success in finding an older version of Switch or other methods of unrooting the G930A?

Hi, same problem. Did you ever solve this? Thanks!

You checked both sammobile.com and updato.com?
If so try G930U firmware since it's just the unbranded firmware for US phones, works on all of them.

I did actually solve this a few days ago to unroot my Galaxy S7 G930A.
I used:
Odin V3.12.3 Patched
G930U Firmware (AP, BL, CP, and CSC files) from Updato (https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=9CDE46F3EB8211E7A5F9FA163EE8F90B)
After doing this it honestly feels like I have a brand new phone. Huge performance jump compared to the rooted package.

SM-G930V purchased in Australia

Hi All,
I have a moderate experience in flashing firmwares and modding my samsung devices over the years.
I have recently purchased an S7 which is unfortunately a SM-G930V model, i thought it would have been the SM0G930F which would have made life much easier.
I want to know if it is possible to get the original Australian firmware or even generic stock firmware on this device?
My issue is with the network settings where i have manually put in APN settings my match my carrier and 4G coverage in australia.
If not am i able to just flash a different baseband to this device preferably Australian?
I have read that flashing a different model firmware will soft brick the device, i just want some insight before i start breaking things, also what are my options.
Much appreciated, thanks, Will
You have the snapdragon s7, you can't flash the exynos 930f firmware on it, you can only flash the american firmware. You might have luck with the 930u unbranded firmware just do some research on it.
Thanks mate,
I'm going to flash this firmware using ODIN, do you know if it will be successful?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s7/how-to/xda-community-love-g930u-t3415875
not sure how to check my bootloader version etc
No clue, goto the verizon subforum and see if anyone flashed the 930u firmware on their 930v.
Just tried to flash the firmware to my phone and recieved an error, the phone is now stuck at download mode with error:
sw rev check fail : [system] fused 3 > binary 4
this means the bootloader won't accept the firmware?
LOL, guess ill try another firmware.. Any ideas?

G930a stock 8.0 firmware download

Is there an american release for this firmware? The one I have seems to be an indian one and only has h data
The G930A is an American phone (It's the AT&T S7 model), it should only have American firmware.
Check updato.com or sammobile.com for G930A firmware.
I soft bricked and had to reflash it. Sammobile does not have any for the g930a but updato has g930az would that work?
Looks like the G930A was actually replaced by the G930U, so you can just use the G930U firmware. It's the unlocked generic firmware that works on any US S7 model anyway.
G930AZ looks like its for carrier Cricket, so probably not the best fit for your phone.
Here is the link to g930a firmware: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=818222786056037245
this is the G930AUCU4CRE4 version

My wife has an S7 (at&t) G930A also. Oreo drains the battery from 100 to 20% in about 2 hours of light use. I just tried to download the FW for G930U from both Sammobile and Updato. In both cases when I extract them to a folder I get a message from Winrar that the files are corrupt. Not sure why.
Went and got a fresh download of 7zip and it ran without a problem. This may be this weekend's project.

Going back to SM-G955W from SM-G955U

Hi i bought a second hand s8+(SM-G955U) it was still on nougat and i didn't get any OTAs, so i update it to Oreo with Odin. I still dont get OTAs, and i never could find my CSC related firmware in g955u models on sammobile. so i looked up my device in IMEI.info and find there that my device is actually G955W and from there i also found my CSC based firmware in Canada my CSC is XAC. I just also find on the back cover of my phone that my s8+ is actually SM-G955W. so my question here is how could i go back to g955w firmware? Just download g955w firmware and flash it through odin?
In setting my phone is
SM-G955U
Baseband version G955USQU5CRL2
Service provider SW ver.
XAA/XAA/XAC
and the firmware ive downloaded from SamFirm is
Model Sm-G955W
Region XAC
PDA G955WVLU5BRJ2
CSC G955WOYA5BRJ2
Please i really need help i dont know what to do here.

Use the patched version of Odin. Just search Google for "patched Odin" & you'll find it. However, if you use the G955W version of the firmware, you'll lose several features of your phone. For example, the G955W firmware disables the FM Radio. Good luck.

Thank you so much friend, i will sure try it and let you know.
You know i don't really use radio and the main reason to switch is because i don't get OTA updates, anti malware in device Maintenance's won't activate, and i couldn't install certain samsung apps like samsung members and samsung+
Thanks again

I need help to identify the correct firmware for my S7 (SM-G930F)

I bought a new S7 (G930F) at ebay. When it arrived i wanted to update to the newest firmware, but i got an error notification.
I contacted Samsung and they told me to send it in.
They checked it and told me, that they are not willing to help because the phone is flashed with a wrong firmware. I bought it as a new device. This is unpleasant.
The seller doesn't answer my messages, so i thought maybe i can flash a new firmware by myself. The actual firmware is working but it is outdated. (1. August 2018)
But how can i find out which firmware is correct for this phone? How to say if it is exynos or snapdragon?
The phone information
Modellnummer: SM-930F
Seriennummer: 5AF94C0C
Buildnummer: R16NW.G930FFXXU7CRH2
Kernel: 3.18.71-14274519 [email protected] #1
Basisband: G930FFXXU7CRH2
Android 8.0.0
Samsung Experience: 9.0
I would like to flash the latest firmware and i want to use the phone in germany. Can somebody identify the correct firmware?
Thanks a lot
What does the phone say in download mode? The ROM can be modified to lie about the model and firmware, but download mode will tell you the truth.
If download mode says it's a G930F then it's Exynos, if it says G930U/V/T/A then it's Snapdragon.
If it is a G930F then good news is you can just flash whatever G930F firmware you want over top what's on it. If it's Snapdragon then you're a bit stuffed, you can't flash Exynos firmware onto Snapdragon.
For updating it if it is G930F my recommendation would be to find out the region code for your device, e.g. from here https://updato.com/firmware-archive...act=1&r=DBT,XEG,DCO,DDE,VIA,DTM,VD2&v=&rpp=15 then download the firmware using that region code with SamFirm tool https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647
Download Mode says SM-G930V
I'm doomed
Yep that's a common scam. If you can't return to seller the next best thing would be to flash the G930U firmware, which is the generic unlocked firmware for Snapdragon.
It won't give you the equivalent experience, but it will remove any bloat and give you a carrier unlocked phone experience.
You can use the same methods I mentioned to get your hands on the latest G930U firmware and update the device, but you may need this specific Odin version to flash G930U over G930V https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/patched-odin-3-13-1-t3762572
Thanks. Does TMK, TFN, TMB,... make a difference when the phone is used in germany?
Should i flash all 5 files:?:
AP
BL
CP
CSC
Home
I tried and my result is: Flashing only AP was not enough. Flashing all 5 worked fine for me. I chose TMK and even LTE is working. Thanks a lot.
Glad its working, for reference CSC and Home_CSC are both CSC files and you usually pick just one. Home_CSC doesn't do a data wipe, CSC does.
But when changing from G930V to G930U it's always safest to do the CSC wipe.

Unlocked s10e from ATT (SM-G970U) - Can I flash G970U1?

I purchased an "unlocked" S10e off Swappa. It works on my Mint Mobile account just fine. But, it has the ATT carrier branding and bloatware. And, it's stuck at Android 10/October 2020 Security Update/OneUI 2.5.
Can I Odin flash the U1 firmware without causing any problems? It's my understanding that the G970U1 is essentially the same device, but sold by Samsung as SIM unlocked and with no carrier branding/bloatware.
If I download the U1, would I / should I push BL, AP, CP, CSC *and* USERDATA?
Thanks.

I ended up using the Samsung Firmware downloader from here
Samsung Firmware Downloader is a free cross-platform tool to download software updates for Galaxy devices
Looking to download software updates for your Samsung Galaxy device? Check out Samsung Firmware Downloader - it's free and open source!
www.xda-developers.com
Pulled down the latest G970U1 with region XAA. It handled the decryption.
But reading folks having issues going from a U to U1, vice versa, or separate carriers, I found this and downloaded the latest version (originally found linked from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-cant-flash-u1-with-odin-etc-att-s21.4238775/)
Patched Odin 3.13.1
For those looking for a modified, modded, or patched odin that is a newer build than all the fake and renamed prince comsy 3.12.3 versions floating around. I patch recent Odin versions to offer similar functionality to the princecomsy; in that...
forum.xda-developers.com
I then extracted the five files and pulled them into the patcheD Odin. Powered off the phone. Started download mode (down vol+bixby button) and plugged in. Odin saw the phone, I clicked start and it finished in only a few minutes.
Is U1s bootloader locked like the u Version?
What about the Canada W?

Can we get an update? How did it turn out? Were you able to get OTA updates? Everything work okay?
I might try this at the library tomorrow. Downloading firmware really sucks without wifi.

A little scary process, but overall I'm happy and have had great success. I've received two monthly Security updates since flashing. All the branding/bloat is gone (well, still have Samsung bloat, but that is easily dealt with).

hey, im using g970u from verizon, and im using it indonesia far from usa and it work with my carrier. But i want to change the firmware with the g970u1 for fast update and latest security patch. i Downloded the VZW g970u1 and trying to flashing with odin 3.14.4, 3.14.1, 3.13.1 (including Patched version) but nothing is work, it stuck at setup connection and ended up with fail. How i solve this? many thanks
Excellent share! I purchased an s10e snapdragon unlocked version SM-G970U.
The service provider/Carrier version was ATT/XAA/ATT.
It had all the AT&T bloatware, but my simcard worked fine in the phone (I am based in India)
Furthermore, it had Android 11 and I was not able to upgrade to 12 as it kept saying "phone is up to date" whenever I searched for new updates.
It also dint have that mobile data toggle switch in the drop down task bar.
I followed all the steps in the second post of this thread and I was able to upgrade it to Android 12!
Now the service provider/Carrier version shows as = XAA/XAA/ATT (SM-G970U1). All the ATT bloatware is gone and the mobile data toggle switch is now visible in the drop down task bar. My simcard works fine too!
Good stuff. Thank you @dwcasey .
