Xfinity TV Stream App on PX5 - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

I was wondering if anyone was running the Xfinity TV stream app on their Android Auto device. I have a KLD MTCD PX5 device that seems to install fine and shows all menus, features, etc as would appear on any other device.
However, when I click something to watch it just shows a still image. Either a stock preview image or sometimes it will show a still image from X minutes into the video. But it won't stream any video. The screen shows the name of the show and the search magnifying icon in a top bar and then the still image below. No other hidden menu items to start play or anything like that.
No errors or anything, just wont stream and all I can do is go back to the main menu. Then, If I choose something else, it's the same thing. It will show a still preview image of that show.
I've seen some stuff about the app blocking rooted or hdmi based devices (my device is rooted). However, I have Xposed installed and have tried the addons that were said to help with this, but it's still doing the same.
I also tried the modified FireTV apk just to see if that might work. It installed and showed menus fine, but again just still preview images.
I couldn't find any posts of anyone experiencing a similar situation (i.e. no errors, but no streaming, just the still preview images) so I thought I'd post to see what might be going on.

Any luck on this issue?

Questions about A13 Allwinner Tablet

EDIT: Hello all, I just wanted to update this post. I did some intense researching, and found out that I could download CWM (the A13 variant), and it worked. However, I don't have any physical buttons, so nothing works execept the power button which reboots it. I have attached photos, to see what I am talking about. If you can help out, or know what direction to point me, I would greatly appreciate it
Hello all,
I am going on a long shot to get this answer, but it is worth a try. I know this is not a name-brand tablet, but it was a gift, and I would have to have it returned. So, I am going to just get to the point. I have already rooted the tablet, and have rooted apps up and running. My first issue is that the Youtube app does not work properly. With ANY video, it plays, but there is no video, but the sound is perfectly fine. I thought this might have been a video hardware issue (or rooting issue), however, this is not the issue. I have used JoeVLC to play many video files, and downloaded another browser and when to Youtube and played using flash as well. So if anyone could answer that, it would be great.
My second question is an actual root-question. This tablet is the EGS004 model with a 1.1ghz single-core and 512 of RAM, just to give you an idea of what I am working with. One thing I noticed is that it does not have any volume buttons, so a recovery may not be possible. But I would really like to flash some files. The way I went to root this device is by using the Cydia Impactor method, which worked flawlessly. I am not expecting a ROM, but I would like to cut out the "middle-man" and just run on pure android power. If you have any other idea on what I can do, I would greatly appreciate it.
Note, I have rooted MANY devices before, so I am very familiar with the process and how it works, but not to the knowledge on doing it by myself obviously. Thank you for my help.
I have the same problem with the Youtube App. It was working fine before I rooted the tablet, so I'm guessing it's a rooting issue. I've tried this app from the Play Store called "Video Tube" and it seems to play YouTube videos quite well, but it has a hard time scaling the video to the whole screen on some videos (The video itself is centered and has black margins around it).
Accessing Recovery will probably be quite difficult to do on this tablet. However, I installed the xposed framework and GravityBox, which gave me access to the advanced power menu which has an option to reboot into recovery. But I didn't try it yet. (Since I don't want to break/brick it since I use it for school & note taking )

Hi,
I've also an ALLWINNER A13 tablet ... I'm not quite sure if we have the same version but anyway, as I read your post, I installed the youtube app from the playstore (version 5.3.32) and it works fine, video playing - pushing the playing video arround ...
.. oh, perhaps important, my tablet is not rooted ^^
regards
Juha
PS: You might post your tablet kernel version info, than we could compare :highfive:
My kernel version is 3.0.8+ (at least that's what Settings -> About Tablet says)
I managed to install CWM 6.0.2 and reboot into it via the advanced power menu which is part of the GloveBox mod for Xposed Framework.
By default, you can't do anything except reboot the system by pressing the power button. BUT, if you plug in a USB keyboard into the tablet, you can select things using the arrow keys and use the Enter key instead of the tablet's power button. That way, you can do whatever you want in recovery mode. Only problem is that it keeps saying "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log .... (and some few more lines that are simmilar)"
I got the files from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189640
For mine it was the A13, 11 Partitions Zip.
I'll probably attempt to flash the Cyanogenmod 10 for A13 devices on it
Erm yep Bricked
I followed the instructions and everything but it went wrong I guess.

mhl not mirroring everything properly

My question is i bought an mhl cable and it seems to work ok, but it doesn't seem to mirror the "hud" in movie apps or youtube. For instance, when you're watching a movie player and you tap the screen the options come up (like the little bar where you move the dot to go to a different place in the movie) but with mhl it won't mirror to the tv. When i go to youtube i have no way of changing the options or anything like that (i use a bluetooth keyboard so I'm on the couch) It will show up on the phone (like normal) but it's just not showing up on the tv. Just the video is but no overlaying options or anything like that.
does anyone know how to get the settings to show up? It's really frustrating!!
actually after many different stock roms, it seems that the htc sensation won't let you see the the hud overlay on the tv. So if you're watching youtube in portrait mode it will automatically show you landscape on the tv. This is ok if you have the phone in your hand, but i want to have it sit next to the tv so i can use a bluetooth keyboard (with mousepad, they are freaking awesome!) so i can have a dedicated media box. But unfortunately unless you have the phone in your hand you can't see half the controls while playing videos.
Hope this info helps someone, or someone can prove me wrong

YouTube Bug?

I'm noticing that on YouTube, after I close the app, and open the app backup, the video plays in a semi full screen mode where I cannot see the content on the side where it normally is. Obviously the workaround is to change it back to portrait mode but that defeats the point of trying to use the app in landscape. What I have been doing so far to alleviate this problem is clearing out the data and cache of YouTube before I open up the app, but as you can tell that gets annoying. I have attached two screenshots. One of them is YouTube the way it should look, the other is showing the problem. Notice the white bar at the bottom. Any fix? I am using a 8013 with 8010 stock rom flashed on it because I wanted KitKat.

Netflix, Chromecast, and Pixel 3

Is anyone else having trouble casting Netflix from their Pixel 3? I can cast YouTube and Google Play fine. Hulu usually works, and if it doesn't, I can close the app, relaunch it, and that fixes the problem. But Netflix will not give me the option to cast. If I do not have my tablet handy, I have to find what I want to watch on the Pixel 3, then ask my Google Home to play it for me. Pretty frustrating, especially if I am trying to watch a specific episode that may not be the next one up for that show. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I've looked around on Google, but I've seen nothing but generic responses, like "make sure you are connected to the correct wifi." I am definitely connected to the correct wifi, because I can cast from the other apps, and I can see and connect to my chromecast in the Home app.
I think there's a bug in the Netflix app. I don't have the Cast FAB anymore when I open it. I just start playing it on my phone and then start casting from there.

You get the cast icon once you start playing the video? I will try that when I get home. I thought I had tried that, but it's worth another shot.

Yeah if you tap the screen it shows up at the top like you'd see in YouTube or similar when the video is already playing. It's mildly annoying because if you don't do it quick enough you might have to back up the show a few seconds but it works. I believe it to be an app issue because the same thing has happened to my fiancee who is using a Pixel 2 and it happens to me on my 3 XL.
Netflix
I have the same problem on my Pixel 3 XL. I have to open the Netflix app, start the show, hit the screencast icon, then it just freezes. So I have to close the app, clear it from memory (swiping up from the recent apps screen), then reopen Netflix. After that it works. But I have to go through this procedure every single time I want to watch Netflix. What gives? How can companies as big and successful as Netflix and Google not be able to make an app work with basic functionality?
I have the same issue with every device at home (pixel 3, huawei p10 and Moto X Play). Hope it'll get fixed soon...

YouTube TV Black Screen when attempting to play video

Youtube TV opens fine, and video plays in the preview windows while browsing for shows. But as soon as I click on a video to play, I just get a black screen and video never starts. Anyone have solution for this issue?
I've got an MTCE_LM, PX5.... have had the issue on both the stock ROM and Malasyk's customer 8.0 ROM. Thanks for any advice you can share!!!
Did you enable the play videos while driving option in car settings?
Oh yeah, of course. I've searched far and wide. On a few other devices it seems changing some display settings works.... Things like disabling auto brightness, etc. I've tried everything I can think of or find out there.
I'm out of ideas and I've searched everywhere I can with no luck.
