Hello everyone, i have been very happy with my HTC Fuze since i started to face Hardware Keyboard issues.
I did make a clean Rom installation, from Da_G rom (experimented same problem with NATFv3,2 4,0 Roms)
some times the keyboard take a big delay before start typing, but other times keyboard turns completely unusable without responding at all, not iven key lights. Then i have to soft reset in order to get the keyboard back. Other times keyboard reppppppppppppppppppppet llllllllllllllllletters likkkkkkkkkkkkke ttttttttttttttthis.
I have searched the forum trying to find the solution without luck, please if anyone can point me in the right direction i would be very great fully.
I apologize for my bad English, and please don't get angry at me by saying use search, cus i had.
Thanks in advance.
i have tried all fixes i have found in this forum
-up/down repeat rate
-disabling t9
-adjusting wifi to middle
-RR Keyboard Speed Increase.cab
none of this had helped me to solve the problem, keyboard still tend to die not iven with wifi enabled
i wanna cry!
i have the same problem too. I dont know what it is or how to solve it i just soft reset.

hope somebody could help us up, this is becoming really annoying for me at the point of selling my fuze if there is no possible solution. hope there is cus i really like this device.
I had the same problem with my keyboard, I only had the phone for about 5 or 6 days and it was doing it since day one with stock everything (before I even bothered playing with it by flashing roms or skipping at&t software installation).
For me it got so bad that when I was using it at school, the keyboard stopped working about 4 times in 10 minutes, and I would have to restart it to get it back working. Sometimes that even wouldn't work.
I ended up flashing back the original rom and SPL and exchanging it for another fuze.
The new fuze I have is working perfectly. The keyboard backlight looks a little uneven, but apart from the rare keyboard lag sometimes, the keyboard works 100% normal.

Thanks for your Reply, im glad to read you solved you issues with the Keyboard.
Anyway i hope there is something out there like a hotfix or reghack for this issue, i bought my Fuze at Ebay so i cannot ask for another one.
Im just wondering if this is real a Hardware Issue or soft/driver?? Since it can work again after Reset.
I Hope somebody come with a solution, i don't see any thread complaining about these issue, i thought it was a common one.
PLEASE SOMEBODY HOOK ME UP WITH AN ANSWER IF YOU KNOW IT.
i get that some times too, no choice but to reset in those circumstances
i did note that stuff like that tend to happen when i'm using opera in landscape mode

First, please don't yell -- impatience will not get you an answer more quickly. Also, I know you're probably tired of hearing this, but searching really does work. For example, searching for "keyboard lag" would have led you to this, which should help with your problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=436795

Thanks you very much. I didn't meant to yell by the Caps, sorry for that. I also did search for those words with no satisfactory answer.
I will try these fixes and let everybody in this thread to know.
Thanks again!

Yes! It only happened when I was using opera in landscape mode.
I'm going to need to clarify my original statement, I'm not sure if the keyboard stopped working with the stock ROM and software. When I reflashed it and was trying to show the at&t guy that it was locking up in opera, it never happened, I used it for probably 15 minutes. The customer rep was a nice guy though and just let me exchange it for another one.
So I'm not exactly sure what the cause is, but my new fuze doesn't have the problem (thankfully).
i mean if we can not really get an answer maybe someone can just figure out how to restart the keyboard drivers or something instead of having to soft reset the entire phone we can just reset the keyboard that could be a plausible alternative.
look at this: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=887 and also go to settingd - buttons - up/down control and increase the delay rate then reduce the repeat rate
i have tried that before and it did not seem to help.

I tried something i read in other thread related to this. It seems the problems it's the WiFi, you have to set the WiFi to middle power, neither Best Performance or Best Battery. Apparently my keyboard is working fine so far since i did this. Hope im right.
PD: what does the keyboard has to do with the Wifi, I don't know.

My touch screen stop working when I turn the phone upside down.. Not sure if this is the same problem.
Haven't had this happen. I've only had the auto rotate stop working.

Honestly that's a really great idea if it was a feature. Think about it no more accidental answer/deny when pulling it out of your pocket if you put it in upside down. And how often if ever is the phone used upside down. I'm calling for a patent on this one!
I have this issue.
I have this issue and it goes far beyond the keyboard. I will be playing fruit ninja and half the screen will be unresponsive. Its happening quite a bit and I am thinking about exchanging my phone.
Same here
I've been having the same problems but I think it has only happened to me when I use custom ROMs such as Cyanogenmod or Coredroid. When I went back to stock I don't remember it happening.
I was running Coredroid V8.1 a few weeks ago and didn't like it because the font looked terrible but I think the keyboard didn't give that problem, it was with an older version of CD. Right now I am using Cyanogenmod 7.0 and it happens a lot and gets annoying. I now for a fact that is not hardware since the keyboard will work normally on landscape and other stuff will respond to the touchscreen.
Still trying to see if there is some sort of fix or to use a new keyboard. Installed GO keyboard and same thing happened, now using Swiftkey X and it happened also but now I took the protective case to see if that has something to do with it LOL.
edit: disregard.
ive had this problem also for awhile. i dont remember having it on the factory rom, but that was awhile back also. ive had it on every custom rom that i can think of. i used coredroid and cm7 for awhile. right now im using miui. ive tried 3-4 different keyboard at least, and had this problem with all of them. the keyboards accuracy also seems to decline. when switching to a new keyboard the problem initially goes away, but it eventually starts doing it again with the different keyboard.
I would try come non CM based roms as I have seen this come up a few times and the omr thing most have in common is that it shows up on CM based roms like MIUI. I have never had this issue on any sense based rom so that would lead me to think like wifi and Bluetooth that it is due to the non OEM drivers CM uses.
Coreddroid is a sense rom, and I had it back then. I've been using absolution, which is cm7 based, and have not since had the problem. The problem has also been reported to occur on non rooted, stock phones.

Nevermind that, I still have it.
It doesn't work in small areas of the screen, at random.
For example, earlier today, when typing on portrait, the "E" key won't work. I went to calibration, and when typing the "E" on the short sentence, it didn't register.
After the E-key starts working, all of a sudden the "N" key doesn't work. Same story with the calibration not working as well for that key...
When this happens, and I switch to landscape, the letter/item/object in that vicinity still doesn't work.
It's as if that small area is dead, and it happens at random, but enough that I am annoyed I can't text.
What's going on...?
I had that problem with the P key a restart made it better again
This used to happen to me on optimized stock roms with the stock keyboard. I would suggest you to find a keyboard on the market such as swype, or flexT9 and use one of those.
I am not aware of a fix for the keyboard not responding to touch gestures, So you have to improvise
Same here, I searched but could not find a fix. When I used another keyboard (if I recall) the problem become less frequent. Now that i am rooted and running a custom ROM, problem resolved.
Its gonna happen no matter what. Read the sensation forums its happening with that phone as well. Not sure if HTC is using the same touchscreen driver, but if they are that would explain it.
Do you know if it is a rooting problem our just the phones driver? I never had any issues when my phone was stock...the keyboard felt better on stock also.

This also happens to me on occasion but it happened to my captivate also. Both rooted and romed with ASOP source. Maybe thats the cause?
Same here. Rooted and running a CoreDroid rom right now. Annoying.
That happens to me sometimes. Usually when I clean the screen it works.
This sure does appear to be a problem plaguing a lot of people.
I dont know why I've been spared this misery.
The closest I've ever experienced to this sort of problem was occasionally I'd be typing and it would sort of freeze, but all of the characters I typed in that "frozen" period of time actually went through, they just got delayed, like the phone had to catch up, as if they were buffered, but their actual output to the screen lagged by a second or or two. It doesn't do it anymore, and hasn't for a long time.
I can't think of what I did that would have made it disappear... I haven't flashed a different ROM for a long time. Running inspired ace.
What you guys are describing sounds different... Like no matter what you do, a certain key won't register, yet others will register just fine.
Yep that is what happens. No matter what you do the certain key would not register. It would require a restart. But as I mentioned before, ever since I rooted and changed ROMS, I have not experienced this problem again, yet. It wasn't often this would happen. Maybe twice a week or so....
This happens on my inspire as well. For me its the H key sometimes. I'm running cyanogenmod 7.1 and strangely enough its happened for two different keyboards: swift beta and smart keyboard pro. I feel a little relieved its not just me experiencing this
Hi, has anyone had the problem where certain keys on your keyboard randomly don't work but the keys around it do? I have to turn the screen off a few times to get it to work again. It happens very often, is there any fix? This is the first android phone that I've had a issue with the keyboard with. (nexus one and g2 were fine)
Using Gingeritis (beta IV) (Happens on the other roms too) and smart keyboard pro (tried the gingerbread keyboard same problem)
Thanks
I get this problem too.
I've noticed it on all of the ROMs I've used.
Doesn't matter if it's stock keyboard, SwiftKey, or SlideIT, I still get that problem.

Double check that you are not accidentally resting your finger on one of the touch buttons on the phone. i had this problem when i first got my Thunderbolt and realized it was how i was holding the phone.
I've noticed this too, and like the person above me said, its usually because my hand barely rests on the search button. I guess its far enough off that it doesn't register it as touching the button, but still a part of the touch screen? Either way, moving my hand fixes it.

My buddy had this problem where the screen was unresponsive and he called VZW about it and they acknowledged that it is a known problem. Sorry dont know a fix but apparently VZW knows about it.
for me, the problem hasnt been a key on the keyboard not working, but lits of times when i am in the middle of typing, the keyboard will disappear & when i bring it up again, the cursor will be in a completely different place.
additionally, sometimes when i press on a link nothing will happen. ill have to press 2-3 times before it registers. and as with the unresponsive key issue, this is also with any rom.
the cursor issue though seems to be worse on aosp roms.
I get this issue as well. It is VERY frustrating. I'm using swiftkey
I had trouble getting letter "k" to work today in smart keyboard pro . It took 4 tries.
I'm trying TouchPal, so far so good.
I've had this problem happen with EVERY ROM I've flashed and with multiple keyboards (HTC KB, GB KB, Swiftkey, etc.)

So will they replace phones? It's hella annoying.
They did offer to swap it for him. He is a unique case though, he is on his fourth or fifth tb. he has called vzw so many times and complained about his phone, they are going to give him a bionic when it comes out. so he declined the swap, but it was offered.
So, as many of you, I started to have ghost swipes,no touches recognized or other crap related to touchscreen issues. Now my question is - how do you deal with it without fixing the hardware?
In my case, I use SwiftKey keyboard, because it's faster than typing with one finger (2 fingers is too fast, getting ghost swipes). It's REALLY TERRIBLE for Lithuanian language, but for English, it's amazing! Another thing I use is the script from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/themes-apps/app-touch-screen-fixer-t3079029 using Tasker.

Wondering the same thing.
At this point I might try rma. Quite ridiculous that I have a phone that can't even do the most basic of tasks.
It's weird that a giant group of people started having this problem around the same time. Whether or not it's coincidental with the release of Android 5.x is up in the air.
My capacitive buttons also stop working sometimes.

on my OPO problem started 10 days ago, i'm mailing assistance for a replacement
I started to have problems last week with no changes to ROM/GApps (that I remember).
Typing is almost impossible.
I've tried a clean flash to see if that was the problem, no joy.
I have tried other ROMs/GApps, no joy.
I have just installed the following app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rn.yamtt
It appears that when you have two touches at the same height on the screen, it cancels them out...
I have tried this app on another OPO and it is fine.
I'm curious if you lot see the same behaviour...
