UPDATE BRA1 January 25th 39MB - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Disc

Looks like it's just the January security patch.

Now, we just need the u and other carriers to update firmware... That was the great thing about this phone

Hotspot hack still work?

Root still available? Heard something about RMM which enables stricter signature verification... Eng boots won't work. If you flash, it bricks your phone for 7 days lol. Not sure how accurate it is but...

Same binary bootloader 4 as previous versions....i highly doubt it. Your idea would probably need a binary update to happen... even the 930p binary 5 will just give you an error message.

Root still works, though supposedly there will be a lock soon. I forget where I saw it, maybe the note 8?

Which root method do you use

You get better performance if you let it sit for about 15 minutes after running the root.bat (after reboot)
Also, if you wipe cache before and after flashing eng.

[Q] Root D85010f

Hey guys,
So I just got the G3 last week, and an update rolled out from AT&T. Me being the idiot I am thought it was the Lollipop update so I updated it. Turns out, it was just 10f.
Then when I looked for ways to root the G3, all the methods required the software to be on 10d, not f.
What should I do?
Any help is much appreciated.
Use the bruteforce method in Stump root.
see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/att-d85010f-update-stump-root-t2953063
You are certain it'll work for 10f?

100%. I rooted on 10f using stump.
In addition, if you plan on rooting a device and you know there is an update, please wait to install the update until you know a root method is found.

I too am trying to root d850 10f with bruteforce on stumproot...mine will not do it though, keeps saying device is not supported after about 7 minutes of trying. Any ideas? (Yes, i know, shouldnt have installed the darn update), but i keep seeing people rooting 10f no problem with stump, although mine wont.

You can always flash back to the older version 10d in the return to stock thread.

This is what I would do. It is possible you got a bad OTA as well. Did you factory reset after the OTA? I have seen many cases on forums where a factory reset takes care of many issues after an OTA.

I don't know man, do you have the correct app installed? Mine went through smoothly in less than 5 minutes.
I just did this - now i am trying to bump the device. So my memory is relatively fresh
Reboot for fresh start - Run Stump - it will say device not supported - try brute force - let it run - takes 5 - 7 and maybe 10 min after which it says "reboot" device - then go ahead and reboot device. Run stump again - it should say device is rooted. Next download "root checker" it will say rooted. Ofcourse if this all does not go thru - you can downgrade to a previous firmware and it'll go easier - however that's more labor intensive and you'll not be able to back up the current ROM with all your apps and setup.
Well, I ended up having to flash back to 10d as mentioned by many of you. This fixed the problem!

Good to hear and I do not think you are missing much going back. At least I have found no difference. Just freeze "Software Update" to prevent nagging OTA update notifications.

I actually installed CM12...its friggin awesome.
I can report no issues here with Stumproot on 10f and I've restored back to stock multiple times.
Sounds like something was just messed up on my phone, everyone else was able to use it!
perhaps this

works nicely, no muss, no fuss
If i revert to 10D do i have to use the BUMP method after root? Or just get TWRP/CWM Recovery like good ole days? I just don't care to have the BUMP bypass that is why I am asking.
I have the ATT G3 10F.

New Update for Verizon S5 (NK2)

Did anyone else get a pop-up for a new OTA update today? I'm running NI2 and the new one looks to be NK2. Google doesn't return much in the way of results for something coming today/recently. There's not much on Verizon's site either: http://www.verizonwireless.com/dam/support/pdf/system_update/benefits-galaxy-s5-12-16-14.pdf All it lists is a VPN fix, SD card fix, and replacing ISIS with Softcard. It does not appear to be Lollipop
Hopefully flashing the kernel to NCG rooting and then returning to the current kernel still will work. I can download the files if someone can explain how to extract the kernel.
I too just received this update. Going to wait don't want to lose root
I got the update and applied it. Lost root (knew I would), but everything else seems fine.
I don't know how to extract the kernel though. Hopefully others take notice and help you or just provide the process and files for the masses.

Also just got the update on my Verizon GS5.
Appears to be a small update as the download and install did not take as long as other major updates.
Verizon still at 4.4.4
Unable to find any reference to the change log via a google search.
Anyone have a change log?

Still amazes me after all these years how quick people are to install updates. I don't touch them with a ten foot pole till i find out 100% what's in them lol.

use terminal emulator or adb (just need root) - for system and kernel dump
Code:
su
dd if=dev/block/mmcblk0p15 of=/mnt/sdcard/boot.img
dd if=dev/block/mmcblk0p23 of=/mnt/sdcard/system.img
Seems to be a small and non-critical update. I'll probably skip on this and wait for lollipop.

I've had a few skips here and there, but occurances vary greatly depending on the app, BT device, and distance. 90%, though, is problem free.
I just updated lost root of course, used the towleroot/odin flash method and put the NI2 kernal back on, phone says I am still up to date with NK2, and finds no new updates. Not sure if this is actually the case, I am still new to all of this. But I do have root access back now so..
you would have to odin back to ncg kernal, root then odin nk2 kernel back once and if its available
---------- Post added at 08:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:37 PM ----------
if u odin ni2 and still shows nk2 then it probably didnt work.. either way, you need to wait until someone puts out the kernal for nk2 or else u might as well stay on nk2 or just go back to ncg root install ss then flash rom of choice and then kernal of choice lol. im content where im at especially when theres no big changes at all
been waiting for this just for the SD card fix ever since the verizon tech's told me it was coming, hopefully they really did fix it.
Now the anxious waiting for it to get posted since I can't do OTA from Canada.
I will wait for it to be rootable, as I'm not willing to lose that.
That said, I've been waiting to be able to use OpenVPN over 4G/3G since I got the phone, so if this fixes the issue, it's definitely worth the update for me. I still can't believe it's taken them this long to fix the freaking issue...

I have not lost any BT connection, and I am running NI2 4.4.4 and a Gear 2 Neo.

It won't be rootable, as the past 2 updates haven't been rootable. As long as you can downgrade to NCG, that's your root method right there. You won't be able to root the new updates as they stand.

If I odin the stock, am I wiping the phone again? I don't remember.
I don't want to restore the whole thing from scratch again after only a week or two.
U can odin without wipe, all of the data will remain.

Easier Root Method?

I know root is achieved with a tot file for the G5 but will there be a one script method like for the g3? I haven't rooted my phone yet because I dont want to risk bricking my phone.

there won't be a script for this as there are no instructions for the bootloader to flash any file. The reason they are using the TOT method is because we have no other way to write to the device. ADB is enabled but the actual command needed to copy everything over was left out.

if you haven't taken that 10d update I would just root now. Not sure if you've seen the thread where they are discussing the possibility of using the TOT method with the new 10d file, but once you update it trips something (qfuse I believe, Autoprime is the one who discovered this AFAIK) that prevents you from using the existing TOT on the forum and from downgrading.
once you root, you can update to 10d and as long as you flash supersu you will still have access to TWRP and root on the latest update. I recommend waiting updating to 10d even after rooting until they iron out all the issues though.
edit: have you done the OEM unlock through dev options yet? it will wipe your phone in the process FYI so make sure you have everything backed up.
Come on. It wasn't that hard to root it. Just follow the directions. Easy!
How do I know if I have the 10d update? I unlocked the bootloader, rooted it, then thought I had a quality control issue with the pain on the frame. So I flashed stock and locked the bootloader to prepare for a warranty exchange. Turns out the paint wasn't bubbling. It was the protective plastic adhesive I had never taken off. I'm stupid, I know, lol. Now I want to root again but I don't know about the 10d update.

that may have been true at some point especially with OEM FW, but as far as custom I rooted then updated for my GS4, G3, and v10. Just because it worked for me doesn't mean it will for anyone else. I had the variants that once they were rooted you held on to it like dear life

it's never 100% safe, hence the quotation marks. there's always a risk of something going wrong such as a power outage, or bad file download. As long as you verify the md5sum of your files you shouldn't have a problem with rooting, the only problems I've seen are people trying to use the wrong files on their device. up to you tho man, good luck with which ever you decide

Downloading it now. I will be really interested to see if they managed to address the stand-by bug that was causing excess drain and upgrade the modem firmware to improve connectivity. Those are the two main remaining issues with this phone. Hopefully they also implemented a method to force applications into full-screen, but I'm not holding my breath on it.

Already disappointed on the modem firmware front. No upgrade there. Also, no ability to force full-screen. Going to pass judgement on stand-by bug after 48 hour or so, unless obviously an issue.

I sure as hell hope not because the deep-sleep issue is horrible. You lose an average of 1.5-2h of actual SoT and the drain is regularly >1% per hour in stand-by.

I was in the same boat as you. I was on 8.1B1 rooted so I fastboot flashed the boot.img, then rebooted , downloaded the OTA which wouldn't install.
Went back to boot-loader, flashed the boot.img to both slots, rebooted, took OTA, and it still won't work. I get "couldn't update installation problem"
I didn't have an issue getting the last OTA, the same way.

Yea..not looking to start over.
The OTA I downloaded was off the reddit announcement thread. I'm assuming that guy pulled it off the device. Essential said they were going to post "sideloading files" also. So, I'm hoping that those are somehow different. (Otherwise why wouldn't they just throw a link up there)
Wonder if Essential pushed it since Pixel is now offering pre release of Android P?
My radio has noticeably improved, instead of VZW its finally showing Verizon wireless. And the new developer options are nice

My install wasn't working either at first (same boat as you guys, Magisk rooted with custom kernel). At first I just did a Magisk uninstall and reboot but it wouldn't install. Thought maybe I still had a custom recovery installed, but there was no TWRP in recovery. So, I just did a sideload install of the 8.1 beta using adb and then rebooted. That put me back on stock 8.1b1 and retained all my settings/data. Then I made sure my settings were correct in developer options (USB debugging, etc.), and it's finally installing. Not sure, maybe I just didn't hold my mouth right the first couple times, but it's working now.
Can anyone tell me if stable has multitouch issues that were on beta?
Rooted 7.1.1 took the update just fine, lost root and twrp
Looking at META_INF\com\android\metadata, it's expecting essential/mata/mata:8.1.0/OPM1.180104.010/144:user/release-keys but, based on the text at the top of the screen when sideloading, the device is at ssential/mata/mata:8.1.0/OPM1.180104.010/144:user/test-keys. Changing it is pointless, since META_INF\MANIFEST.MF contains a SHA-256 hash of of the metadata file. I'm going to try recomputing the hash and updating the OTA zip.
Edit: Didn't work. But has someone on reddit confirm Jank4AUs situation.
