[App] Textto - Text From Your Computer - Android Apps and Games

Hello everyone, I've finally launched a long-time side project of mine, Textto, and would love some feedback.
Textto lets you text from your computer. When one of my favorite apps became too expensive, I set out to make my own text-from-pc service. I've been using Textto for over a year now and I love not having to check my phone to reply to texts.
While Textto is still an early product, it comes featured out of the box with:
-works with any texting app (Textra is my favorite!)
-sms messaging
-mms messaging
-sending photos from your computer
-group conversations
-searching for emojis
-simple sign in
Some features that are queued up for development include:
-native apps for Linux, Mac, and Windows (almost done!)
-dark theme
-improved contact syncing
-link previews
I'm looking to get community feedback so that I can build in the features people want and create a great texting platform.

Thanks you!

First impression on the looks : beautiful.
I'm trying it in a few minutes, this seems to be the iMessage replacement I've been looking for ages
Edit: First remarks
Can't be easier to set up, it seems to work really nice. Will see how battery life is impacted on the phone.
One aesthetic concern: text is hard to read in the blue bubbles. Might be better with white text, or even cooler, an option to customize colors (like in Textra)

hey there, I saw your stuff. User Interface is awesome.

You should update the first post with a direct link to the app

looks interesting

Will be trying this when I am home later. Just adding post to remind myself.
From pictures it looks great, easy to us, and I am happy you made something like this because I too, was annoyed at all the other apps opting for heavily paid services when all I want is sms/mms messaging from pc.

First impressions:
SUPER easy to setup.
Looks nice

Thank you everyone for the feedback so far!

I haven't heard this before! I think when I finish building the dark theme, I'll add in another light theme with easier to read colors. I would also like to build a theme editor so that anyone could tweak their theme on the fly.

Same here. I was a huge user of some other apps but the prices had gotten VERY high! Textto definitely needs to catch up on a few features but I'm enjoying it as a user very much.

Looks yummy, not tested yet

Which is what makes it great!
Whatsapp has all of that built-in anyway, so...

My thoughts as well. I really just wanted a desktop service to let me send native texts so I don't always have to be checking my phone.

Sounds good so far, but the promised standalone desktop clients (Mac, in my case) can make all the difference in the world.

Totally agree. I released the website first in case any urgent issues came up. It's a lot easier to just refresh the page and get a fix than it is to ship a new native app. I'm finishing up some work with auto updating and expect to ship desktop apps in a couple weeks.

If you need help testing the Mac client, let me know. I'd love to be able to get rid of those "alternative" expensive bloated and inconvenient SMS clients that all want to become the default messenging app.

I should be able to send you a copy in a few days -- you'll just need to manually uninstall and reinstall as auto updates aren't done yet.

Great! I'm pretty sure I can handle uninstalling/installing manually!

I would love to beta test the Mac app too!
Oh and by the way, if you plan on localizing the app(s), I can help for French!

Just following up to say that themes have been added! A night theme is included and there is now a theme editor so that you can make your own. So now, you can right ahead and change the text color. Check it out here https://textto.io/news/themes

Text Messenger - The Text Message Away Message

Hey all, I'm new here but was looking for an outlet to announce applications. I have just finished up my first Android App and was hoping for some reviews/comments/suggestions. Criticism Encouraged!
Text Messenger is a simple away message application for your Android phone. There is a full version for $1, and a DEMO version (where you cannot change the default away message) for FREE.
Give it a try, then give it a Buy!
EDIT: updated barcodes to go directly to Android Market, rather than through AndroidZoom.
Just checking in to see if anyone had a chance to review my app, and had any comments/suggestions/criticism?
To make it easier to find I will post some barcodes (DEMO and Full Version) for the apps.
Thanks.

I'll check out the demo version real quick and tell you my thoughts =P

Thank You.
Don't mean to be mean, but don't people take a non-reply to mean that the recipient is away/busy ?
I can't test this because I use gvoice for texting.

That's alright, I know this isn't for everyone. With the current state of texting, especially with the younger crowd, I have seen many instances where people say "What the [email protected]#$ why aren't they texting me back!!!"...I guess this is more for those types.
Also, I find myself in situations where I really should not be reading/responding to text messages but I end up giving in knowing there is a message. With Text Messenger you can set your Away Message and automatically put your phone on silent at the same time. So when I am driving, in class, or anywhere else where I shouldn't be answering a text I do not feel the urge.
Pretty cool - few suggestions
Hey, just checked out the demo version of the app. I'm a brand new Android user. Coming from windows mobile I needed an app like this. Just a few thoughts as to what would make this an even better app. These are just suggestions and ways that I would like to be able to use the app.
1. Allow for profiles to be set up. Such as during certain user defined times, the app automatically sets an away status.
2. Allow for away statuses to be enable for specific contacts, like a black/white list.
3. Set up a quick reply list so I can select from some predefined messages such as "Call if it's an emergency", "In class"...
Keep us updated...
Nice app by the way

I do not know why you would not be able to find my app? Did you try scanning the barcodes I supplied? Do you have Android 2.2?
Anyways, I attached the apk for the DEMO Version of the app. In this version you can not change the away message, but if you purchase the full version for $1 USD the away message is completely customizable.
Thank you for the interest in my app!

Thanks for trying out my app.
I plan on adding a customizable list of away messages, so you can easily set "In class" etc...look for that update soon.
The Black List & Scheduled away messages are a great idea, although the initial decision creating the app was to make it as simple and quick as possible. Adding these features would be great, but also add more complication. I suppose there is no harm in adding these as optional features though, since if people wanted a quick easy solution they could simply not enable them.
I will keep you updated on the changes coming, look for your #1 to definitely be added with the possibility of #2 and/or #3.
Thanks again for trying my app, and leaving feedback!
P.S. Anyone else that has tried the app it would be great if you could rate it on the Android Market. Only a few people have rated it/commented, and I know many more have given it a try.
I like the demo app. I would like to try the full version but don't see it on the Market. I tried the posted barcode and it never loads the link in the browser.
Thanks,
I downloaded the donation version to be able to say what I want. What an awesome application. I can easily say one of my top 5 most useful. I set it when I'm driving, in a meeting, flying (in the air force) or when I'm busy with a million other things. Here is my list of features I would love to see, forgive me for any duplicates from any other post;
1. A widget! One that when pressed will turn on the auto reply AND have a drop down list of saves/pre-made responses.
2. Option to turn off notification bar icon, I hate that big green booger on my minimalist bar.
3. Option to save messages for future use through a quicky list
4. Option to have messages be contact specific (I would love to see this and would justify a higher price as it would make this an essential app, on par with SetCPU!)
5. Lastly, some notification of auto reply being sent, I'm currently not seeing one on my phone.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
app
hey man.. gonna comment your app... it's cool and very to the point
my away message read: (away message: I am not near my phone right now.. be back when i can)
i typed away message.. it wasn't generated by the app. so cool man

I'm using Android 1.6 on my HTC Tattoo. I scanned the barcode but I think i cant find it because my resolution (240 x 320) might not be supported.
I would like to buy the app, but i live in Belgium, and payd apps can not be bought from the market.
I just tried to install the app using the apk-file, but it doesn't works. Can u make a version for 1.6 plz, i really like it.

Thanks for giving it a try. If you press the menu button when in the DEMO Version there should be an option for "More Apps" this will bring you to the Android Market where you can see the FULL Version. I also attached a different barcode, this should link directly to the market rather than through AndroidZoom...let me know if that works for you? Otherwise just search "Robott Creations" or "Text Messenger" on the Android Market.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have heard more than once the need for customizable preset messages & option to turn off the notification "booger". I look to add those features this week. The rest of the suggestions I also agree with, and will hopefully work them in. I was looking to keep the app extremely simple, but the feedback so far has made it sound like the app is "too simple".

I am not too familiar with the Belgium Android Community, but it sounded like you said you are unable to buy any apps? If so, I do not know what I can do about that. But I will look into comparability for Android 1.6.
Thanks everyone, the feedback I have been getting has been excellent. I look to add some of these features shortly and supply you with exactly what you are looking for.
Version 1.5 Released
I read all the suggestions, and am trying to get them in ASAP.
Here are some features to hold you over until the next Update.
New to Version 1.5
------------------
* Custom preset Away Messages
- Easy interaction via Context Menu
* Enable/Disable Notifications
* Text Forwarding (Currently only supports other Phone #s)
* Minor Cosmetic Fixes
More Updates Coming Soon!
I hope the Android 1.6 support will be there soon. Such a lovely app ...

Both depend on the support of the project. Currently I have been hearing good feedback, but the number of downloads does not assure me it would be worth the time of creating an Android 1.6 version and/or porting to Windows Mobile.
I am currently working towards Version 2.0, and after that I will investigate porting and 1.6 support.
Thank you both for showing interest.
Any way of choosing which Apps this works with, as just had it in a weird loop on my facebook status. As I have fb notifacations sent to my mobile via texts, its put all away messages on my facebook, then as I had a new post, got sent a new text, which then triggered another away message...... Turned it off for now, but really good and usefull app, if you can have it only work with chosen apps. Like Handcent only.

[APP] Promethium = Geolocation & Lost Phone App

Hi,
After the success of the beta programme (over 100 people wanting to signup!) I decided it was time to re-write the platform to allow me to add more features and improve the overall "feel" of it. I also have plans to commercialise the platform, allowing it to be used by businesses/individuals who wish to monitor devices remotely.
The client application for Android is available freely from here and can be included in a custom ROM if you wish to make it persistant across factory resets. I do ask that if your are a ROM developer that you let me know before you do this, and also credit me in your release notes.
There will be 3 main licenses available to you:
Basic
Standard - comming soon
Expert - comming soon
(These apply to your account)
Basic
FREE!
Single device per account
GPS Location
Alarm-on-Demand
Standard
£0.99
Single device per account
GPS Location
Network Location
Alarm-on-Demand
LiveTracking
Includes software updates for 12 months
Expert
£2.99
Multiple devices per account (limit of 5)
GPS Location
Network Location
Alarm-on-Demand
LiveTracking
Includes software updates for 12 months
I am also considering the possibility of an API which a business could use to extract information and use it in their own way. Please contact me if you are interested.
How to install?
Remove any older versions from your device
Install the latest version from above
Goto "http://promethium.mobi" and signup
On your phone, follow the instructions to register your device against your account
Login to "http://promethium.mobi" and have fun!
I haven't moved any old accounts over, so you should signup again.
Enjoy,

Hi,
I have created a geolocation app a bit like MobileMe or htcsense.com for any Android 2.2 device with Market. Allows you to show your device on a map and make the alarm sound, all via a web portal.
http://promethium.mobi/
This site is the main portal, There will be limited accounts to start with, just 20. These will be BETA accounts as I need people to trial the system to get feedback etc. Currently the email address has to be unique, but doesn't need to be a valid address, however this will be useful when you try and report issues.
Once you have signed up, the latest APK for the client application will be downloadable from the portal toolbar. This app will ask for the same login credentials used on the portal, and once connected you are ready to use the portal functions.
Check the site periodically, as I will allow more signups as the application progresses.
Please can we keep all bug reports within this thread, I would rather develop this in the open.
Enjoy,
Rich

OK people!
Thanks to all those who already registered, just a few spaces left if people want to signup. Please only signup if you are happy to engage in helping me improve this platform... any accounts created but not activated within a day will be removed!
So far I have made quite a few alterations, improvements to the UI on the portal, as well as more interactive feedback. This means that you need to re-download and install the client app - this will overwrite the current one, and will keep all existing settings
Enjoy!

One more suggestion though, idk if it's possible, could you have it force turn on gps? I normally leave it off so if I actually do lose my phone, it would just give me the giant radius of the cell tower location...
Also, I notice you're using dyndns. Is the computer/server you're running it on going to be up 24/7?
**EDIT**
One more suggestion, a "My Phone's Location" button on the portal that snaps to the location and centers it.

I have read through the SDK documentation and the best you can do is prompt the user to enable it. So kind of misses the point
I have also altered the JavaScript code so that clicking on the location refresh button zaps you to the marker instantly, but you still have to wait until the phone updates the server to see the latest result

Thanks for the positive feedback - glad you like it so far.
Yes, more features will be coming soon, including a "Lock" ability. This is quite a complicated one though, might require the user to select a "secure" lock screen prior to first use.
I also thought of some wicked uses for the Nexus S, but that will have to wait until I get time ( here's a clue: Peekaboo! )

Free Remote Android Support App

Zikk is unique mobile to mobile remote support app.
So what's so special about Zikk?
It is designed for consumers and not for IT depatments and operators,
therefore it is extremely simple and user friendly.
It provides full privacy protection - no screen sharing, and no access to SMS, email, etc.
It doesn't require constant internet access, and doesn't prevent the recipient from using his
phone for other purposes during the process.
It supports all Android devices (2.2 and above).
In addition to remote support, Zikk contains a local settings menu which uses Zikk's simple
and friendly interface.
When people have a hard time setting up their smartphones, they ask help from their friends
and family - Zikk enables users to help each other.
APK attached. Also available on Google-Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zikk.alpha)
where you will also find a short and helpful demo video. You van also find the video on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsP9-Lpfwpk).
So both people need Zikk installed, I presume? Does the person you are helping get prompted to download it?

Correct. If the selected contact does not have the app, the user will be asked to allow sending
an automatic SMS with a link to the download page. There is also a share option where you can
send this message (via SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook, etc.) to one or more people.

The current version is designed for Android phones does not support WiFi-only tablets or
large screen tablets, however in a few weeks I will publish the tablet version, which will
include UI adjustments, tablet related features and a different registration process.
Sounds AMAZING! I'd really like to use this to help my friends and family. I live in India though
No worries, I'll wait
fantastic idea!!! this will surely take off!! kudos to the OP!!
how far this app will go ? I mean can I help someone from anywhere ?
What about phone types? What if my phone is a Nexus and the other device is a HTC?

Thanks, updated - since I'm a new member I can't post links so
I posted the app's package name and the title of the demo video
on YouTube. I will replace it with actual links as soon as I can.

Cool, like the concept of it. But really wish it could do the updates of apps. And PRL updated. The many things my mother and sister never do.

Great ideas for the next version - thank you very much!
I like the app a lot, but what make it one of the best is if I could move, install, & uninstall system apps, and a root file manager so that we can help rooted users also
uninstalled this app from my Galaxy Note i717 and now the home screen is gone and I cant get back into recovery?
oh cool its like remote assistance for android!

Actually a version for rooted users is an interesting idea. Not sure how common "less tech savvy"
rooted users are though. If you have more ideas for features for rooted users I would love to hear them.
I actually have a friend who is just getting into root use who calls for advice when he needs it. Let's be honest we were all beginners once and maybe could have used a little hand. He moved recently so there is distance involved now. This looks like a great idea.
I would love to have access to the settings menus, root file explorer and perhaps apps he already has installed such as set CPU or apps of that nature.
Beginners in root use are just as confused by root abilities as beginners in android are of it's stock features at times.
It would be really great to be able to start a log cat app and have your friend do something that normally causes a crash for example if they are not advanced enough to run one themselves. A current issue I have on hand. Trying to explain how to run one and sending videos to watch.
Hope this keeps going

[6/10][Root/FlashFire] Edge Lighting 'AlwaysEdge' Mod For Galaxy S6 Edge

Edge Lighting 'AlwaysEdge' Mod For Galaxy S6 Edge
Phew, this is getting exhausting Get ready for another mod -- Edge Lighting 'AlwaysEdge'!
PLEASE READ!
Samsung's Messaging app won't show notifications for messages sent from yourself, so don't test this that way. Also by default it turns on the screen for new messages, which interrupts and defeats what this does. You can change this behavior I believe by following the thread here: XDA Thread Link
There are two versions of this mod-- one that always shows the Edge Lighting for Notifications AND Calls, and one that only shows for just Notifications. If you want to test the 'AND Calls' version, you will need to press the back softkey to display the regular call screen once the Edge Lighting begins. This is not a bug, if you don't want to see the Edge Lighting with Calls then don't flash that version!
This does not include, and henceforth replaces, my Hangouts Support for PeopleStripe mod. If you'd like to test both it'd be in my donation package If you've already donated and feel like you don't have to again, send me a PM and I'll hand it over!
This is an extension of PeopleStripe, the thing on the edge of your screen that shows Selected Contacts Information/Messages. So it will show for any Call or Message (the non donation does not include hangouts) from one of those selected contacts. It should also technically show for any email from one of those contacts, as long as your using the stock email client, and the user's email address is added to the Contact Listing. The Edge Lighting's original purpose is to show cleverly and differentiate between messages/calls from those different selected contacts, not to display for every notification that comes in. I could take suggestions and add support for different applications, both Edge Lighting and/or People Stripe support, but it would be on a first come first served/implemented basis, and unless there was any motivating factors or large demand would get worked on when I had the chance!
Updates
Code:

Aha thanks. It would be awesome if edge lights for all notifications, as I don't use Samsung messages and email. I use Gmail and messenger. Also if I used the other version the one with notification only will the edge lights face down on phone calls? Or it will be completely disabled? Anyway you can add Gmail and whatsapp support for all contact.

The notification only version will display the Edge Lighting as expected (as in it will ) when face down! And yes, I can work on that. I have a few things in my personal 'queue' that i'd like to do first, but keep in touch through PM!

Would love to have support for WhatsApp, non-Samsung email clients (Gmail and Nine?) in a future update if possible!
Appreciate your dev work on this!
Thanks for ur work but how can i undo this MOD..... How can i bring it back to stock...
It will be good if the edge lighting is with random colours instead of white....
Working well on 925i..
One question if i want to uninstall it in near future how can it be done?
Working great on sprint .
Is it possible to have the edge wave blue for calls and messages, instead of white?

There is a disclaimer and your flashing at your own risk.
The developer is not responsible as he didn't flash it on your device.
You can dirty flash rom to prevent you having to start fresh.
We all who have experience in flashing ROMs and Mods know that its on us, and if we don't like then we can politely ask and if the solution is reflash ROM then that is just they way it is dude.
Dear Trailblazer101.
Working fine and so cool!

First, I have to reiterate what the Edge Lighting is for, as previously mentioned on the OP. it is for distinguishing in a clever way between the different selected contacts within PeopleStripe, with their texts and calls. Its purpose was not to display for every notification, for every Contact. However, I can work on a version that does just that, for calls. Unless properly motivated, though, it will be on my own time, and I have a few things on my plate right now.

lol, I spent a decent amount of time writing my OP for a reason, I believe what it does is properly described/explained there I'll give you a quick rundown though-- When you get a call/text from a selected contact from PeopleStripe while the screen is off the side of the screen will glow/wave.

[APP][4.4+] Auto-Reply to Whatsapp, Slack, Email & more [BETA]

Hey all - been working on this off and on for a while but I've finally got it in a place where it works to how I envisioned it so I'm super excited to share it with you all!
These days people expect instant replies to their instant messages & it's not always possible to oblige.
Texting & driving is dangerous, your boss probably isn't keen on your messaging at work, you might be in a meeting, you might have left your phone to go workout.. Fortunately, in any given situation, Can't Talk will respond for you.
Let people know you're busy, you're driving, you're in a meeting, you'll get back to them later.. You set the message, you set who & via which apps to respond to & Can't Talk does the rest.
It's "out of office" but not just limited to email. Whatsapp, Slack, SMS, missed calls, Telegram, Hangouts, Allo.. any app that let's you send a quick reply via it's notification - Can't Talk can respond to.
Features of note:
- You can auto reply to sms & missed calls as well as app notifications
- You can specify which apps can be replied to
- You can specific which contacts can be auto-replied to (this includes across apps like Whatsapp etc..)
- You get to specify the message that gets sent.
Features of note to come:
- Multiple profiles - so you can create a "work profile" or a "home profile" or a "driving profile" with specific responses/settings
- Contextual Switching - the ability to automatically turn profiles on & off depending on whether you're driving, in the office, at home etc..
- Contact specific responses
At this stage I'd really love your feedback on the app so far (this is a beta so there may be bugs) & more specifically what more would you want from an app like this?
Any and all feedback/suggestions would be hugely appreciated!
Beta on the Play Store here
Huge update now on the Play Store
Added support for messaging apps such as Whatsapp, Hangouts etc..
Fixed a number of bugs
Added support for contact specific replies
Would love ANY feedback on the app! Happy Friday everyone!!
New update will be on the Play Store shortly, lots of bug fixes & a much tidier UI ??
Nice app but second reply time is 12 min after the first reply to the same person that not good. it should be the frequent reply. or is it work without the internet?

Thanks for the feedback! Was it a reply to the same message, & which app was it replying too (whatsapp, sms, etc)? There is a setting under Advanced Settings to change the reply frequency, it defaults to 15 minutes meaning it'll auto reply to any NEW messages you receive from the same contact or app after 15 minutes.
If you have a better idea about how reply frequency should work I'm all ears Maybe people want the option to reply to 1 contact 1 time ever, until the app is switched off?
New beta is up! Ton of bug fixes, some layout improvements.. Feedback as always is encourage
Messenger?
Does this (can this) work with Facebook Messenger?
Finally an extremely useful app thank you...

Interesting application buddy. Love the opening animations.
One thing I found annoying, is that for almost anything I changed, there was no "Save" button. Thus I had to first click "Back" arrow and then a prompt would ask if I want to save or discard. Could have used only a single click if there was a "Save" button.
Also, there needs to be some modification for the secondary text field, e.g. Apps Secondary or Advanced Secondary.

How would you know who had joined the beta, though? When I click the "Become a tester" button on the play store, does it send my email to the developer?
after I have enabled Notification Access, it is consuming 310MB RAM in a 3GB RAM Device, is it normal?

Hi
This looks a very interesting app but I don't seem to be able to download it. There is no Install button on the app page.
Sounds nice, gonna give it a whirl
I joined the beta program through the app in the store instead of the link in the op, is it ok? Since that was a browser redirect and sign in page, so i just took a shortcut.

That's an excellent point - tbh the app actually left beta yesterday & I'd actually forgot to remove that caption from the OP ?
However since it was mentioned in the Portal post more people have downloaded & I'm guessing that's a big part of the reason so I'll honour that commitment.
Let's say.. anyone who's commented on the thread or liked the OP I'll send a promo code to. Anyone left hanging in 2 weeks (when the trial expires) will hopefully email me & they'll get one too. Unless anyone has a better way to go about it? ?

Tbh mate I've not looked at RAM usage at all seeing as the app does nothing in the background whatsoever - until you receive a notification/SMS etc.. although judging by my other app ReadItToMe that sounds about right.
I'll do some testing but unless it's causing you an issue I wouldn't worry
