Galaxy s6 tmobile - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

So I know this is the wrong area but s6 forums are dead so I was hoping someone could answer a question here. What I wanted to know was that I am on nougat right now and I was thinking of installing a custom rom that was a lower android version. I am rooted and know all the steps to do it but was unsure if that would brick it by having a different version on it. And in case you wonder why it is because I wanted to use unlimited hotspot and have not found a way to do so with nougat but many ways to do it on older versions plus I could use foxfi. So please no bashing just a guy looking for answers is all. Thank you for your time.

Last thing I am on metro pcs but it is a tmobile version. I also do the stock 6.0 version to flash it

Anyone

Why don't you just try it if the worst comes to the worst just flash your latest Android version with Odin

Yeah it will just cause it to soft brick and as I said you can just flash your latest firmware for the s6 with Odin and sorry but I don't have any links

Where can I get stock Firmware

Looking to start from scratch with my Note 10.1(N8013) but can't seem to find any active links to stock firmware. I am currently running Cyanogenmod so I don't believe I need to worry about the bootloader issues. I think dirty flashing has caught up to me and given me some instability and would like to start from fresh and get back to some CM goodness. Anybody got any links or care to host a stock firmware file and a .pit if there is one?
N8013 only has up to 4.1.2 official. You can find it on sammobile.com
Let me try downloading from their again the link was dead when i tried. Got the Android 4.1.2 file. Only concern is that is it for Cellular South any issues for a US one or no?

No that is the US version. I used it myself on my 8013. Must be a generic "carrier" since its wifi only tablet.
Awesome will proceed to flash then thank you for the clarification
I didn't like the sammobile site myself.. the downloads were unreliable.
I found this thread -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849994http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849994
5th line down he had a link to an image that I was able to use to restore my n8013 after a bootloop issue.
please someone advise which region code on summobile is for uk or ireland?

T-Mobile Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 (Switched from AT&T) - Stuck on 4.2.2

Only goes up to 4.2.2, existence is pain
Is there anyway to go up to at least 4.3 or 4.4 ?
This is the international S4 forum, so information and support for your S4 will be limited here. Read through the threads in the AT&T S4 forums, which you can access from the thread I linked to. There should be a thread there with the Android version you seek.

If you ever plan on using custom ROMs on it, then don't update.
Updating may make it impossible for you to root or flash anything other than Samsung firmwares on it.
You can try custom ROMs. Pokémon Go works fine on them too.

[Firmware] G935UUEU4API3 Odin Files & Modded Odin

I know there's another thread for this but it's an absolute cluster F*** to make heads or tails of. I wanted to simplify things.
Simply download files, download modded Odin and put files in proper slots in Odin.
This is will give you stock U firmware with the latest PK1 modem. Root isn't what it used to be so I don't bother with it, please don't ask me for root files and instructions of this firmware.

Here's the modded Odin that I used. This is from the root thread and never once failed to flash anything on any device I've thrown at it: http://d-h.st/gsDA
Thank you for simplifying this process.
You're welcome. I'm here to help.... The other thread was too much of a mess!
Thanks joe3681, for all of your efforts.
Where online can I find a list of updates or a version history for the Samsung S7 Edge (T-mobile)?
so this will work with the latest update from November? and also what are the benefits of U firmware? I haven't been able to find any good info anywhere. i have rooted and flashed before lol i just haven't been in the game for a while
U firmware seems smoother, it's bloat free. Only real downside is no advanced messaging.

No, the U firmware is still the September security patch level. It's so much smoother/faster though. Especially rooted.
Thank you so much, this was obviously 100x easier to follow than the other thread.

Not so sure about that.. Seems laggy still compared to stock and gets hot easier even after cpu fixes

I followed the O.P. in the post root issues thread, doing nothing more and nothing less than what they said to do. No lag, normal temperature.
Thank you
OP thank you for the easy to follow instructions. I just bought my SM-G935T from ebay. I noticed some lag with the S7 Edge and of course all the Samsung and T-Mobile bloatware.
I flashed all of the files then did a system cache wipe. I have not noticed lag so far and now have 20 GB of the 32 GB free.
One question though. Where will the phone check for updates? Will it get updates from Samsung or T-Mobile?
TWRP help
.
I just got my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge and have been doing a lot of reading here on XDA about this device. I have had all the galaxy's since Galaxy II.
I have rooted / custom recovery / custom ROM all of them. I know there basically is not much out yet as far as ROMS go for the S7e, but I would like to instal
TWRP and root the phone. I can not seem to get a straight answer as to how to do this exactly. Each "How-To" that I run into are a little bit different and scares
me a bit. If you could help me with any answers or links to my question(s) I would sure appreciate it.
1) I would like to odin into the phone the latest TWRP but I am not 100% sure which file to flash.
2) I would like to ROOT the phone if it is fairly safe at this point in development, but again I have heard of at least 2 different methods to do this.
3) Please advise on which file to use and/or method. My phone DOES connect up with my PC just fine via USB and I have ADB working also.

Spend more time reading around the forums before you try anything, but to answer your questions:
1) TWRP not possible on TMobile S7/S7E
2) Root is possible, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/how-to-root-s7-edge-t3410470
make sure to read the entire thread and note the issues you may run into

@fl_gator_dad, it will check with Samsung. Mind you they dont update this as often as carrier versions release their incremental updates

Hello,
thank you for replying. I have been using TWRP on my past 6 phones. Is there some reason why
it wont work on this one ? I did a little more reading and found this
https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys7edge.html
Support Status: Current
Maintainer: jcadduono
Code Name: hero2lte
Also ... if TWRP isn't working then what custom recovery are you and all using ? Clockwork ...?
.
Thank you

Well if you continue searching and reading some more, you will see that twrp only works on non locked bootloaders. Any carrier driven Samsung device has a locked bootloader and twrp will not work. We have the snapdragon and not the exynos. If you need to have twrp then you need to get an S7 edge Exynos version. There is no working custom recovery for the snapdragon version phones as of yet.

Thank you. That is a shame. I would think, incorrectly, that the unlocked GS7 firmware would be the baseline to build the carrier firmware.

Yeah, you'd think! The international is the one that gets everything first.
The unlocked firmware favors T-Mobile though offering T-Mobile customers features that other users don't get.

Question about the nougat update.

Hey guys hope you are having a good day, I read online that some variants of galaxy s7 won't receive the nougat update, is that true ? Or did all the variants receive it ?
Thank you in advance.
After reading too myself, It was found to be a bug. If that is indeed the case, there is no reason to worry as you can easily use ODIN to flash the latest version of Nougat.

Yup, don't worry, the cases you have been reading are isolated cases.

That's correct. I have a rom that I want to use that's on Marshmallow and since I know I can't downgrade from bootloader version 5 I'm sending this phone back that just got to my house today.
Edit: I know I said bootloader version 6 but I meant the first bootloader version with Android Marshmallow.

Damn good luck in your search I'm still on marshmallow myself cause these newer android versions have difficulty with mods like viperFX and more importantly xposed can't leave home without that.. [emoji817]

Yeah it sucks and everyone on Ebay and Amazon is claiming it is and it gets here on bootloader version 5 no where near Marshmallow! I figured I'd try here for a change since I know there's got to be some people like me that deal with phones every day and probably have one in a drawer somewhere! Hopefully anyway! Thanks though!
You might do some more research. I have heard that while Odin won't let you downgrade a bootloader, TWRP will. The "lock" isn't in the phone; it is in Odin. I haven't tried it (or needed to), so I'm not certain that it works. This means, of course, that you need to find a ROM (w/ bootloader) or standalone bootloader in TWRP zip format.
