Alright, it seems that a lot of people have started trying out all of the themes that are popping up here. And why not eh there's a lot of great looking themes flying around (once I've finished constantly messing up my phone with dodgy modifications I might even settle on one myself )
Problem as I see it is, the same questions are getting asked over and over again. And the same solutions are being presented. I know there's the 'How To' sticky for using chewitts installer, but the installation issues are getting posted everywhere: all through each theme thread, in the sticky and even in new threads (I have to admit, I've only seen one, but I don't really want to see a trend starting).
My suggestion is to make this the one-stop shop for all installation and restoration issues. I'll use the next few posts for the different kinds of issues (phone won't boot, market doesn't work etc) and their known solutions.
As the thread progresses with new issues I'll update.
Please note: I do not want to do this on my own
I will need (and I expect) the help of all of you out there that are creating these things that mess up our phones But, seriously, it would be nice if you guys subscribe and help out when you have the time.
This is really just an effort to clean up the forum here a bit, and make life easier for people trying to get information out of the theme threads, and, last but not least, to help the themers (is that a word??) avoid posting the same answers to the same questions over and over again.
I will look at the poll again after the weekend. If the aye's have it, then I will ask for it to be stickied and fill in some gaps. If not then this thread will self-destruct... well... you know... I'll ask a mod to delete it...

First of all, great idea
As for me the problems i mostly met was:
- Market issue not installing Apk's after applying themes, to solve it you have to clear cache and uninstall updates from the "manage applications" menu.
- The other issue was the phone not booting and stuck on SE logo, and had to do a reflash, i remember seeing somewhere that you can flash only on file using flash tools and it will make your phone boot and keep your data but i actually don't remember where i read it
- Other issues at start of my theme"ing" life was chmod, installing adb and setting environment in windows settings but thats easy now - at least for me -
i will try to add more later

Market issue - uninstall market update. Not related to theming.
Phone boot problems - improper installation of framework-res.apk.
chmod - if you have the improper permisions (shell root) you wont be able to push framework-res.apk to your phone, that's why they have you check your permissions. If they aren't proper the installer tells you how to remedy that.
Protip: backup your apk's after you've flashed your phone the last time and set them all up. In theory all your setting should be saved as well. The backup and restore program should be useful as well if you have to reflash.
***I voted no for us needing this thread because all the theme installation questions are easily answered in the theme's thread itself if the person properly reads the post. Also, if people are having doubts they shouldn't be theming their phones without properly figuring out what they have to do, let alone rooting it.***

Theoreticaly you're absolutely right, that's why it took until now to open this thread. Practically, however, things look a bit different... I think another two or three threads popped up yesterday... And how many times have you read about "the market issue" on one (or all) of the theme threads?

Absolutely correct. The Market has been having issues since 1.6, and it's not just on the X10 either. Do we need the thread, not really, as most themes popping up use Chewitts installer and there is a sticky for that already or the issue has already been addressed in the themes thread.
However, you could change the thread to a common X10 issues thread which could be moved to general or rewrite THIS thread as you seem to be covering issues that are more general than theme related anyway.
yeah, fair enough. I just saw all the issues coming up in all the theme threads and how you guys were having to repeat yourselves again and again. I don't really want to get into any other issues other than theme related stuff.
Like I said, I agree that the market issue has nothing do do with themes, but just count up the number of users that posted in the res mods thread because of it.
Anyway, as I was primarily going to put this together to make yours and chewitts life easier (as you two bare the brunt of this), I'll ask the mods to delete it.
I might just write a little bit on recovery and send it to zm4.

Hint taken I'm back on the case right now
Thread closed as per OP's request.
I apologize if this is the wrong area for these questions. I'm having a few issues with my installation of CM7. I've tried looking in several places, but nothing seems to address my problems.
First thing I noticed upon installation was that I was never asked to set up my touchscreen or input my google information. I tried doing this manually by adding an exchange account, but that would not work. I next tried looking for my apps to see if they installed automatically this time around or not and none of my previous apps show, nor does market exist anywhere. Without any instance of market to be found I can't use any of the market fixes. However, without an inputted google id I don't think that would have mattered.
Can anyone guide me to where I can find help for these issues or post any possible solutions?

Google apps - Flash right after you flash CM7. You might have to bypass the setup, but should be able to open the market and input google login. It won't auto download, but you'll have some market access.

Read the dev thread for other issue and such, don't have the time to dig through and help further.

As the previous poster said, install Gapps. That will give you the setup screen the first time you reboot the GTab. As a word of warning, I wasn't able to bypass the first screen (touch the droid) on the main version posted in the development thread (the Beta05), even with the click around the screen. I was able to get past it right away on the "offical" build in post 18 of that thread, however (Beta01).
Let us know if that doesn't fix your problem.
Thanx alot guys. I was finally able to get market going by installing gaps and using the CyanogenMod 7 bet01. I ran into the seup screen issue with the Beta05 just like you warned. I didn't do the full market fix as everything I wanted was readily available. I'm not even sure if the full market is absent or not.
I am noticing that after you mount the USB connection you can't unmount. Also, my internal storage isn't recognized. I think there were fixes for some of this in Beta5. Is there a way to update to Beta 5 without having my previous problems or some other fix for the USB and storeage issues to anyone's knowledge?
flash to vegan5 and you will be way happier.
I tried CM7 and it had so many issues.
Once you flash vegan5 you will actually enjoy your tab
You can try flashing beta5 over beta1 and clear cache/dalvik. I'm not sure if that will work, but would be my best suggestion.
On the other hand, I actually agree with the previous poster saying that vegan is probably the better option at the moment. It seems much more stable and feature complete, even if it is froyo instead of gingerbread.
Either way, make a nandroid backup so you can go back if things go sideways.
I didn't get to post this before the responses. I did actually go ahead and flash over Beta01 with Beta05. I just didn't wipe the data or cache. Everything came back just fine. This fixed the storage and usb issues in Beta01. However, you have the previous audio issue from older builds where you have to plug in headphones and unplug them to get the audio back. I've tried VEGAn 5.1 and it works awesomely. I'm merely choosing aesthetics above overall functionality.
My tab has been delegated to fancy entertainment device (comics, casual browsing, games and video). It does all I need for now. I figure since VEGAn and CM7 are joining forces, why not do the switch early and test it out. I love where they're going with this ROM. I can't wait to get my grubby paws on a finished product.
Again, thanks big time for all the assistance. I generally skulk and read through the threads, but I love this place and all that everyone provides for the lesser technophiles like myself.
I thought maybe I could post my own problems to this thread?
So I'm on cynogen 6.1.1 on htc evo 2.2.1 kernal [email protected] #1
Anyway... I've tried 3 times to install the update to 6.1.2 today and each time it's gotten stuck around 58%. Any links to places I'm sure are there and I just couldn't find?
Also, for some reason, for the first time since I got my evo, I'm getting TONS of errors when attempting to send sms. theres a pink like traingle with a ! in the middle. Any suggestions?
How do I fix the bug with the camera?
You can email me if you like, at [email protected].
I am sort of inbetween a newb and whatever the next level would be, lol. This past week I was able to root, and install a custom mod, AND install an update to that customed mod (which is the one i'm on now) all w/o ever posting any questions to any forums. Hopefully that'll get me some brownie points?
Please PLEASE please!! I will even paypal $10 once I get this resolved.
On bended knee I beg (im not really this dramatic in real life )

This usually means the installation was corrupted in some manner.
And it's usually because of a corrupt zip one would flash with.
You can reflash cm7 with another fresh downloaded file if you still have access to recovery mode.
Which I think you should be able becase the boot up process makes it up to the "Android" Bootscreen before it starts bootlooping.
From Advanced Recovery mode you can mount the USB option for the SDCard then transfer the fresh DL to your SCDard that way.
Also make sure you are using bekit's version .8 of CWM while in recovery mode.
Grab CWM v.8 from here
Other versions of CWM don't work well with the GTAB.
Hey, I've done a fair whack of searching and unfortunately even though I've done a lot of lurking and reading, I do not have permission to post in the developers forum. Supposedly I need 10 posts before I'm able to post inane drivel to spam up the threads.
Annnnnyway, I've had a crack with a few of the more popular SMS apps, along side the native Messaging app, and all of them crash immediately on launch. The exception is Go SMS Pro, which is unable to detect any SMSes or even send any SMSes.
I've no clue how or why this is, I've cleared both my normal and Dalvik cache, the MMS.APK is in place in /system/app/ folder, the permissions are correct, I've tried clearing the data, and I think short of a full wipe and install, unless someone can point me in the right direction, I've tried most things a reasonable person would think of. Granted, I'm not knee deep in Android development like a few of the people who lurk around here, so I could be mistaken.
I'm running a standard HTC Sensation with a slightly out of date version of the default 1.5GHz kernel included with Android Revolution HD, although I am planning on flashing the latest TamCore to see if that will clear it up (though I doubt it). Currently I have OpenSensation-20120809-NIGHTLY.zip installed, but I'm downloading OpenSensation-20120810-NIGHTLY.zip as well in hopes that maybe it's a bug in this nightly that is resolved in the newer one, although I doubt that.
Anyway, any help is much appreciated.
Cheers.

Might be an issue with OpenSensation (as you're using nightlies). Back up what you have, format everything but SD card, and I'd recommend trying a completely different non-nightly ROM, try AOKP m6. This way you can see if the SMS issue is related to OpenSensation or not. backup m6 THEN try the newest OpenSensation nightly to see if the issue is fixed. This way you'll likely be left with at least one ROM you can restore with working SMS functionality.
I might yet have to do that, although I would prefer to stay as close to vanilla as possible, that's why OpenSensation interested me - I think I'll try regressing to the CM9 RC2 on the official Cyanogen mod website first, then try other projects after that if that doesn't work. Does seem strange that no one else is complaining of this issues though, and I really can't see myself being the only one running the latest versions.
Oh yeah, the newest nightly and Tamcore kernel didn't work - the only thing that's changed is now I know I can't regress directly to my ARHD backup, yay!
This one's a bit of a thinker.
Well, I did a full wipe, installed the latest HyperSensation CM9 build and reinstalled the TamCore Kernel. Everything seems to be working now.
Thanks for the input, thread can be closed.

Nice thread, maybe you can list what's available (making difference between A700 & A510) splitting by 2 categories : Acer ROM based, AOSP ROM based
Cheers
new user here, so what's the best ROM for A700s? alot of people seem to be on the iconian but it seems the developer is gone, so I guess it should be the cm10.1 version by pawitp?
don't plan to do alot of gaming on it, mainly for magazine reading & web browsing since i've amassed a whole lot of unread zinio magazines which I've subscribed using the free codes they've been generously giving me over the last year.

Not sure what happened to vorbeth and iconian. Most of the roms have been around for awhile, and not a lot of issues.
pawitp has the CM which gets updates.
There,s a rootbox version, and Iconian. Iconian runs Acer build.
As with running Acer builds, we're dependant on Acer to push updates, which unfortunately doesn't happen often. However, in my opinion, there's less incompatibility issues with games. Just my opinion. This is why you don't see a lot of updates on the roms. Example, I'll push my first update since release. Audio improvements for folks that appreciate good audio. A little theming, and custom Acer ring.
I'd say flash them all, and see what works best for you. You usually know within a day or so, if you like the rom.
You are right, I flashed them all. Somehow stock is faster than CM & Iconian but your ROM is the best Thanks
I flashed CM10.1.3 RC2 to my A700. Has been working well and I really enjoy the new features I gained coming from stock. Most importantly for me CM gave me a higher touch sensitivity which drastically improved my user experience and was the main reason I switched to CM. It can have some lag tho.
I was thinking about flashing the kiteman V4.1 kernel to see if it helps with the lag, but I need to verify if the "Very High" touch sensitivity option will still be available. If anyone can advise it would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I was thinking about flashing the latest Evil Alex ROM because I have read good reviews. Again, most importantly I need to verify whether touch sensitivity will be increased comparable to CM10.1. Perhaps Moscow Desire or boringest you can inform me?
I would say pawtips' CM 10.2 worked best for me so far. The performance is great and feels far less sluggish than stock, which I had before. Also not having all the branding stuff from Acer also improved the device a lot

i just do some experiment,
replace CM 11 /system/bin/rild with CM 10.2 rild
adding build.prop line with:
rild.libpath=/system/lib/libhuawei-ril.so
rild.libargs=-d /dev/ttyUSB2
one hours trying A701 playing rock music album from Apollo, check on off powerbutton every
5minutes ,
Screen-off problem not occurs yet
but another problem with 3G
*A701 can see network, but 3G Data not connected (3G icon signal bar full)
*set DNS > No network DNS: blank , ip : blank
*wifi works fine
hope someone check CM11 rild file for us A701 users
You should ask @pawitp

Hey A700 users. I'm helping a friend and offered to patch up his A700 from what appears to be stock Android 4.1.1 Build Acer_AV051_A700_1.052.00_PA_CUS1. This does not appear to be the 3G model. I don't see anything in the ROM for mobile networks, and what appears to be the SIM slot next to Micro SD looks like it has a glued in plastic tab in it, not user removable without a bit of force.
So, looks like I need to unlock bootloader, install TWRP/CWM, and choose a ROM which is where my question is aimed. I'm wanting to choose a ROM that is mostly up to date, but also does not have any hardware issues. It appears that CM 12.1 has issues with HDMI which I would like to avoid.
I'm looking for in priority:
1) All hardware working (no workarounds, or other things I need to add as a "if this happens go here and do that" kind of stuff)
2) Stable
3) Up to date.
It appears a lot of ROMs are not seeing much activity which is understandable due to the age of the tablet. I'm keen to just flash this once onto something that is a good daily driver and be done.
After some additional digging I'm thinking about CM11: https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_a700
It's strait forward, I know CM well enough....
I still have my old A510 wall mounted for home automation on CM11 4.4.4 . But the problem is that I can not install newer applications. Any way to get newer version of android on it?
FYI, I just installed our last Android 6 build (https://builds.unlegacy-android.org/aosp-6.0/picasso2/) to my A700 that I'm giving to a relative, as I believe it is rather stable. It's the last stable Android version for this device (Android 7+ has various graphics issues), and it uses kernel 3.4. It can be used with an up-to-date TWRP, such as: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/a51x-a70x-aka-picasso-2-recovery-twrp-3-1-1-0.2678284/.
I'm sure there was a thread for it here, but I just can't find it now...
I upgraded my A700 from latest official CM11 to above mentioned unlegacy build. Unfortunately since then I'm experiencing massive audio distortion so that I had to revert back. Is there anything I missed or anyone with same experience?

Q&A for [ROM][AOSP][Nightly/Release] CarbonRom KitKat [infuse4g]

Wrong partition
Okay.. I've tried 4 different versions of this Carbon ROM for my Infuse and upon installation it give me an Error which tells me that it uses a different partition. but I CAN CONTINUE INSTALLING. So i did and bricked the phone. So i had to re-flash my boot, partition, etc, etc. using Odin. So whats the deal? How is it that everyone else is happy with Carbon installing correctly.. yet I'm stuck using AEON 1.4? I'm no noob at this... been doing it for years. So what am I missing here?

How is it that everyone else is happy with Carbon installing correctly.. yet I'm stuck using AEON 1.4? I'm no noob at this... been doing it for years. So what am I missing here?

How did you get to installing Carbon, that is, what process did you take?
If you went there straight from Froyo (or AEON as it looks like Gingerbread), I would try stepping stones next time (ICS/CM9, 4.2 JB/CM 10.1, maybe even Beanstalk 4.4.2).
This is how I got to Carbon (mind you, my device started with Gingerbread instead of Froyo), and didn't have any problems.
If that is already your method, you could try Gingerbread straight to Carbon by disabling lagfix in CWM. I never tried this method, but it seems to be the preferred one these days. Hope this helps.

What I/O scheduler do people prefer on this ROM? I've tried SIO, zen, and noop. SIO gives the highest actual benchmarks but zen and noop seem to give faster times on things like playing videos. I know SIO is generally considered the best for most phones but with infuse being an older phone not sure.
Also not sure what exactly changed but switching from beanstalk to this rom made my antutu benchmark go from ~6600 to ~8300 and a pretty noticeable boost in performance regardless.
I'm trying your new version 20141016. I hope it's going to be a good rom. I've tried Beanstalk but I'm not satisfied with it. I'll test your rom right now and I'll go back tomorrow for review
Weirdly I can't find the nightly page to download the ROM anymore from carbon's web page. I mean I'm on 10/12 so it's not like 4 days really matters, just unusual to not be able to get the web page to work 3-4 days later (the sidebar is entirely gone where the device tree should be picked)
People are reporting that when they try to go to CarbonROM.org, they get some variation of a "connection untrusted" error message. It seems that CarbonROM.org has either been hijacked, had a redirection injected, or something strange has happened, because it redirects to auth.sphere.ly and then fails on kerberos. Hence, the "connection untrusted" message on most desktop browsers.
The .ly in "auth.sphere.ly" usually refers to "Lybia."

Google search bar is empty
Hi guys !
So, I installed this rom and everything went fine, only problem is that the permanent google search bar is empty... I mean, it doesn't show "Google" and the mic icon to the right.
Greetings

Is anyone here using CarbonRom yet?
I ask because thats runing in my infuse since Oct-14 and now the build of Nov-06-14, the last one, this Rom is the best one i think but there are a couple of things that I was never can fixed. Can anyone of you guys help me with this rom please?
I would appreciate it, its just problems about YOUTUBE that i open the app and it close in 2 or 3 sec, i cant use it.
The other issue its because the rom is working really nice but in 3 or 4 months suddenly I'm receiving force closed messages about some process, after that I can't do anything, just flash the Rom+Gapps again and start over.
I really sorry about my english, I'm just trying to use my old Infuse 4G thats because I come to the experts, thank you and have a nice day!!
Success! (for now)
Thanks so much for putting this together. I'm an old Infuse user and have been too lazy to move on; your build coincided with me finally deciding to do something. As far as I can tell everything is working; I'm unsure about the battery life because I gave it quite a workout today reinstalling everything. I should have a better idea tomorrow.
Best Regards,
Jeff
MMS reception problems
Hi folks,
I'm really happy to have this Infuse ROM and have been happily using it for a few weeks now. It has some eccentricities but is overall a Good Thing.
One issue that's been giving me problems recently is with MMS image reception. MMS messages (esp group texts) are working fine, but people sending me images intermittently fails. I have carefully reviewed my APN settings and they seem correct (and I do sometimes get images). I recently cleared the Messaging app cache and restarted, and I get the following messages in logcat:
E/MmsduLoaderManager( 5247): MmsException loading uri: content://mms/728
E/MmsduLoaderManager( 5247): com.google.android.mms.InvalidHeaderValueException: Invalid Octet value!

E/MmsduLoaderManager( 5247): at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:841)
(there are many of them, just with different MMS ids)
Is there a known explanation for this issue or (ideally) a workaround?
Thanks,
Jeff
