Am I on the best software? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I have the Canadian S8+ ( SM-G955W ). A few weeks ago I got tired of waiting and flashed Oreo, not the beta but what was said to be an early leak of the official release. (Build Number ending in CRA1). It was meant for SM-G955U (which the Canadian version isn't) but I haven't noticed any problems except maybe a little loss in signal and a few features like Caller ID & Spam Protection. I can live with that. But what I'm wondering if there is a better software version I should be on? Maybe one that will automatically get updates?

Here's a screenshot of my software info:

I believe the 955U is up to CRAF now. I ran CRA1 for several days with no issues, then moved up to CRA9.
I'm not sure how the 955U firmware plays with the Canadian radio bands, but if you aren't having any issues, then I'd say it works fine. You could always try some of the newer builds and see how they work.

You can dial *#243203855# from the dialer and change your CSC. That may help with signal issues.

Ok, this firmware is Multi-CSC. Meaning it will read your SIM vatd and change to whichever carrier you have. Your carrier may have disabled those dialer codes. Verizon disables all the dialer codes in their software.

OP, you asked if you were "on the best software?"
Answer: No, I am on the best software.

[Q] Unable to connect 3g or 4g

I have the chinese version of the opo and i'm having issues connecting to the any 3g or 4g, i just get EDGE. I've tried cyanogenmod m9, latest nightly and colorOS which came with the phone. Has anyone had similar issues?. I've got a friend that has the same phone, same carrier, but gets 3g and 4g.
What part of the world are you in? What carrier are you on?
Are you connected to the right APN?

His SIM card should still at least support 3G. We're not sure whether or not OP lives in USA or whatnot.
He does have the Chinese version which is incapable of getting LTE speeds on U.S. carriers.

Ah so its just a carrier problem not providing 3g/4g in your house. See if you can get a signal booster or something of that sort?
I was hoping with the 30O update there would be a baseband update but there wasn't.

It's fine for now, i have wifi, I could change to a carrier that has better 4g support, i know they have a 4g tower nearby, but Australia carriers are terrible.
Thanks for the responses though.
Now i have an issue, i'm getting drop outs, not just the 3g, but my signal will just drop out. I know some people fixed this with the latest modem from m8. But i flashed it, didn't seem to change anything.

Does MI 4i works in the UK?

Do you have it? What is your experience in the UK on Three?

I got mine two days ago and it is working fine on the Three network in the UK.
Overall I'm very happy with the phone, but I haven't yet managed to root it and the battery isn't lasting as long as I'd hoped, probably because of the brilliant screen. Once I've rooted it I'll see if there are any odd wakelocks preventing deep sleep.
I tried rooting last night using the much advertised solution using a Windows based tool, but adb on my Windows box can't see the phone. On linux I have found it.

One other thing to be aware of. When you set the phone up, there is no option to say that you are in the UK. Instead I said I was in Hong Kong. Then of course my timezone was incorrect.t
There is no way to change the timezone through the OS! I installed TimeZone Changer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.futurek.android.tzc which successfully changed the timezone for me.

Can confirm time zone in phone's settings > addition settings > date & time.
This is build 6.5.6 and I believe it was there in previous versions too. Which build version are you on?

Thank you.
My M4i and I will be taking advantage of that within a few days. According to coverage maps, EE seems to reach out the furthest into rural areas.
Mi, EE, and 4G for me

Cellular signal issue

Hi guys,
I've got an EU Galaxy S6 (SM-G290F), which I've used for a few weeks now and noticed every 10mins or so I drop from full signal to zero then back to full again after 5-10seconds. This happens many times a day and I can bit sat not moving around at all when it happens.
I've tried two networks and still have the same problem. I called samsung and their suggestion was a factory reset. Does that seem likely to work?! Anyone having a similar problem?
I have the same problem on my G920F. I have noticed a brand new modem OF8 released for the G920I which addresses the signal problem. Just gotta hope they release one for the G920F sooner rather than later.
---------- Post added at 10:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:59 PM ----------
Also a quick search of google shows many many users with the same problem. Vodafone, EE, Virgin, Sprint, AT&T to name a few. Its a problem with the modem as I have had 4 phones now that all behave in the exact same way. Spoke to samsung who just said they have heard nothing but speaking to vodafone tech guy he confirmed they are away that the issue exists.
Thanks for the info guys. So I guess the only choice is to wait for Samsung to update with a fix?
Has anyone found a solution to this by any chance? I've reached a dead end :/ Samsung don't seem to be too willing to acknowledge there's a problem!
No fix yet im sorry to say. Still waiting for a new modem. The only other option is to convert out G920F to a G920I so we would have the better modem but as yet im unable to get the stock 5.1.1 G920I rom to flash. Hardware on both phones is the exact same bar a couple of software locked basebands.
So I've noticed I've been sold a german version of the galaxy s6 on this baseband: g920fxxu2pogn. Could that be causing the cellular issues?

Haven't seen LTE on Note 5

I initially thought there was a change in the coding for the 4G icon. But I've been checking since I got my Note 5 and I am not getting LTE. I upgraded from a GS6 edge that had LTE everywhere, home, work, and surrounding areas. But I have yet to see the LTE signal on my Note 5. Anyone else having this issue? Or have any idea as to how to fix this?

Is this a T-Mobile branded GN5 or a different version? Have you taken it to T-Mobile and asked them to see what the deal is? Can you post a pic of your APN Settings please?
Yeah got it from T-Mobile store. Haven't spoken to T-Mobile yet, XDA is my first place to go. Also added pic, scroll capture ftw!

Attached another pic.
Sounds like a faulty LTE antenna. I'd be taking it back to the store.

I would go ahead and do a factory reset first then if you aren't getting LTE take it back. Might save you some time.

It was the Sim card. Went to T-mobile store and they explained is a known issue when upgrading to any new phones Note 5 and beyond they have more information to handle new network features.
Glad you got it worked out. If you're paying for data might as well get the most out of it

dBm comparison between the HTC U11 and Samsung S8/8+ on AT&T

Does anyone own both he unlocked HTC U11 and a Samsung S8 or S8+? If you do, would you be able to check which phone has a better dBm reading for data reception for AT&T.
I have them . How do I get it?

Great. You can use an app called LTE Discovery or in the settings go to about phone and from there you can find the signal strength.
Ok. I'll try to do it today.
