I just received a notification in my status bar for an update. The thing is, I've already applied the January update earlier this month. Anybody else getting this? Just curious why my phone thinks it needs to update...? I'm bootloader unlocked, twrp installed, Magisk 15.3 rooted and have the latest Flash kernel installed.
Yup. I just got the same thing. Any idea what it is?

I've got the notification too. Verizon model. Maybe this is the bootloader unlock fix!

I bought mine from Verizon and got it today too. I flashed stock back to take the OTA but it failed a few times. I was thinking it was a patched bootloader since they didn't do that with the January update. But apparently not if yours is from Google. There were some random lockscreen touch issues reported. It could possibly be a fix for that.
Sure hope it's not to lock the bootloader. My Verizon pixel 2 comes tomorrow and I want to unlock and root. I doubt it's preloaded already. Can anyone confirm you can unlock the bootloader with the new update?
I don't think it has anything to do with Verizon. I'm on T-mobile and got the 2nd update today as well.

Verizon doesn't push the updates. It is linked to your IMEI and pushed by Google.
Just got notified myself... Google phone on Verizon
Got it installed, new build number OPM2.171019.016. Maybe a bug fix release. I'm at work or I'd check it out more. It installed just fine though on non-Verizon Pixel 2.
just got the notification and thought I was going crazy since I just sideloaded jan 5th update yestreday
My wife's phone got it, however mine has not. Both are Google play store phone, on Verizon.
i don't see anything on google's website for sideloads.
It's probably for Spectre/meltdown patches/fixes.

What does that mean to us who rooted our phones? Do I have to unroot, or could I just do the update when it comes?
Or will we all have to do a factory reset, update, reroot?

I tried check for updates, and got authentication error so it may be due to rooting. I figure Cyanogen will have Gingerbread before TMo does.

You get that error even if you are not rooted. Think the server's just not set up to talk to the G2x (nothing to update, so it doesn't let you in)

I wish someone knew.
I wonder if it will be fresh "bread" vs the hidden bloat wares that cause some of our battery drains. Also if cm7 is coming out wonder if we should wait on that vs the T-Mobile gingerbread they got coming.
Tmobile is testing the bloadwares on Gingerbread.
im running the latest beans rom and im unlocked. today im being prompted to take an ota, seems like it's being pushed as i had a countdown clock. i disabled the update until 5am but why am i be prompted for this on a non stock rom and how do i totally disable this?

Freeze or uninstall SDM and reboot. That's what I did, saw some other post here saying the same thing.

I'm running rooted stock and it's forcing me as well. I thought it was disabled on all the root roms even stock ones? Not sure how to stop it other than keep defering it.
OTA
I just accepted the OTA, restored to factory defaults, one step rooted it, got rom manager from the play store, booted into clockwork and then reapplied my rom. No biggie.

Probably not, they don't like to fix actual problems. They prefer to make minor tweaks and such to their bloat instead. You didn't want your device to actually work as advertised did you?

What's up crew?
After my update the baseband version is I535VRLG7.
I used Mobile Odin pro to PRE-ROOT the OTA before flashing it.... Successfully I should add.
I don't have the OTA Handy for you though, but if you do a little searching around this forum I'm sure someone has it here for downloading.
The OTA did not update my modem though, I had to flash the G7 baseband version separately. Found it on RootzWiki.
Edit:
Found it: OTA update.

You guys can .... SAFELY... check your device to see if you're vulnerable to the hack on this site.
http://www.androiddoes.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-ussd-hack-test/
Read up on the page.. it says something about if Your Dialer screen coming up and your IMEI is being displayed on it then you have the Vulnerability.. if nothing happens.. or if your dialer comes up with nothing being displayed then you're probably safe.

The phone wipe hack was fixed months ago on the S3. I took the OTA then unlocked (casual) and unlocked boot loader (EZ Unlock). No problems no issues. Slammed Beans 12 non-kexec back on it and I really don't see any difference.... World didn't end Phone police didn't knock my door down.... Nothing....

Nothing here. I'd suggest linger around some Android news sites and wait for one of them to put up something saying that the update is rolling out.
I spoke with an AT&T rep not long ago who had his manager check on the status. He told me it would be out within a week or so, but nothing concrete.
Just reading some info on the S3 and the update was pulled cause people are experiencing lots of problems. I wonder if thats why they pulled the S4...

Is this a downgrade? Bc my screenshot is from just now and it's the unlocked us variant running the same build it shipped with but has had an update waiting to be installed for about a week. And my number Is higher than yours.
BEWARE!! Thats a new boot loader... v2! you wont be able to do a full factory restore until a v2 bootloader odin file is released.
That being said, how do you like it? any differences?

You will probably be waiting quite awhile.... As I stated in my thread, little to NO devs are working on root for the s9/+... I've seen one Korean user mention he was trying in another forum for us SD users, and ONE other guy... That's it, just 2 people and myself. Don't expect anything before Christmas.
The only member (SAMFail creaters) i know working on ROOT doesnt have the device but has a tester... Its gonna be a while...
Dude, dont post these. I roasted you enough on reddit. The basics, these are bad updates to use unless I can verify them before. Bl updates are dangerous. Also just dont use them dude, the website could be shut down any day because of people like you.

Why are these bad updates?
These updates from sam firm science allowed a lot of us to get onto oreo beta. If you know how to recover your phone why is this a problem. OP explained the risk with the bootloader.

I may just go to international S9+ if there root seems like a false hope on the SD variant. The only issue would be VoLTE and WiFi calling, oh and Samsung suddenly restricting call recording apps on international variant. I tried flashing those Engboot from other thread with no luck btw.

I'm genuinely loving it, the only "cons" I've found so far are the weight, the provided case being too slippery.
And the most stupid and funny was testing Cerberus when it takes a pic of you when you introduce a bad pin/pattern too much.
The cam raising and hiding by itself is very stealthy, lol.
