[Solved] Newflasher, which files to flash? - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

Hi everyone :good:
I'm a proud new owner of an XZP, which I got as a "refurbished" (think it's from a shop).
I digged through a few settings and found that I indeed have a firmware of a swiss carrier on my device,
hence it didn't get the latest updated yet (still on October Security patch).
Now I read through a lot of threads but I didn't find a definitive answer sadly.
I want to flash the Customised German FW (already downloaded) but I don't really know which files of the extracted FW I need (if possible I would like to flash the FW without losing any data on the device).
Any help is appreciated
EDIT: After looking into the files my guess would be to only flash the partition folder, the boot folder and the .sin files minus the userdata .sin file?
EDIT 2: I attached a picture of the files I flashed in post #7
The only problem I came across is the "device decryption failed (corrupt data)" so I guess there's no way to keep data with newflasher?

I understand the need to not lose your files. But to be on the safe side I recommend maybe backing up your files and flashing all files. This ensures the firmware is entirely flashed. Better safe than sorry bud. I use the Europe version and I'm in the USA hence I wanted the fingerprint reader to work lol. Best of luck to you

Thanks for the recommendation, but I'm really not in the mood to set it all up again, that's why I'm specifically asking.
And I don't think that the versions differ in any way other than the security patches and a few bug fixes so the userdata shouldn't corrupt anything while flashing the new firmware (my main goal here is to get faster OTA - carrier fw are lacking that).
I'm just not sure which files are actually mandatory for the new firmware and which aren't.

Whatever you do please leave your bootloader locked. I regret unlocking mine. Broken camera and I have to flash a DRM patch or Turbo's rom.

After owning a z3 I know the struggle with the UB all too well and I'm not eager to do it, thank you though for your heads up :good:

i know your problem, forum is missing a good clear guide. I been flashing from customized tmobile PL to CE1. after downloading rom with xperifirm delete every file ending by .ta file format to keep drm keys. its recommended to format user data to avoid problems. note I lost wifi calling and volte but at least I'm free of bloatware crap

Funny thing is I don't even have any trace of the carrier software on my phone besides not getting the latest updates.
I have backed up most of my stuff with Xperia Companion and I will remove the sdcard before flashing just to be sure.
Will probably try to flash without formatting userdata (jump from October to December update should work).
Is there any risk in damaging the device to the point of no return (I have quite good knowledge of the whole flashing process etc from my experience with z3 and it was impossible to hardbrick the z3)?
Sorry for asking a (probably) stupid question but I just got this and I don't want to see it dead :silly:
EDIT: I'm impatient so I just started the flashing process with the files like in the attached picture (deleted all .ta's from main-folder, userdata etc.)
EDIT 2: Okay, was unnecessary to do all this, it displays a message "decryption unsuccessful" and I need to factory reset my device
EDIT 3: I obviously made the right choice changing now because I just got an update notification for 47.1.A.12.34 (which is the January update)

Will probably result in the same "decryption unsuccessful" error though and I read somewhere that there's a few problems
with Flashtool and newflasher is working perfectly fine.
And one thing that bothers me the most about flashtool is the fact that it's hosted at uploaded.to and you can't update it from the tool itself (inconvenient as hell).

I used Flashtool to debrand yesterday, worked fine. I did use newflasher to put the 3 firmware on my phone a couple of months ago and that worked fine too.
I agree about the lack of update within the tool, although the torrent download is never more than 5 minutes

Hey man. Do you think you could give a little advice please? I unlocked and rooted using the drm patch a while ago as I'm still using Nougat.
Is there any info on flashing oreo over nougat with the drm patch? I saw the updated guide but last I checked it doesn't address updating to oreo from an already unlocked and patched device. I literally used sToRmz original method before he changed the thread. I've tried a bit of digging but there's so much abstract information I backed away.
Honestly I'm just getting bored of nougat lol.

I'm not trying to be annoying here but this doesn't have anything to do with what I started this thread for. Please open one for yourself or ask in the original thread of the patch (it's not just confusing, you won't get attention in here for stormz patch).

did you flash with Europe firmware and Did it work? If so , please guide me through the process. i tried flashing CE1, Customised IN versions but not successful. It was "NO partition delivery" and also "No flash script" error. i have used flashtool 24.2 version.

I flashed the German customised one but doesn't matter. Just flash the files I flashed (delete every .ta file except the one in the boot folder) with newflasher and you should be good to go, don't forget to copy the boot folder and extract the partition.zip into a partition folder you have to create (but be aware your /data is probably gonna be reset because of a decryption error, so back everything up).
I will try to write a more detailed guide when I'm on my PC (mobile is too much of a hassle).

Copy all the .sin files + the boot folder + the extracted partition files inside a partition folder into the main folder of newflasher.
Better to search for the Newflasher thread and read it thoroughly, just to be sure.

That would probably cause a boot loop? Why would flashing only modem and Bluetooth from a newer fw result in an updated system?

Okay, weird. I read through the original Newflasher thread and there were a few posts about the "decryption failed" error and losing data.
Did you come across any other bugs/problems afterwards? Like not receiving OTA etc.?

[SYSTEM] De-Odex Framework / System [No-Wipe]

Currently designed for the Wifi version only. Alternates available upon request.
This package includes the de-odexed system and framework folder based on a wifi model.
This is NOT a full install, so do NOT wipe before using.
This package is designed to be used with the custom recovery image. This will NOT work with Odin.
This will delete the current system and framework folders and flash the new ones in their place. This is only a temporary solution until a full rooted install is established.

Request!
My Verizon GC120 should be here in a couple of days. As far as I know it is untouched stock. Let me know the commands to pull the files you need for this and the other dev work you are doing.
Thank you for taking the time to do the work! We all appreciate it!
Finally received a GC120 camera I can do something with. Attached are the .img files pulled. About says my phone is on 4.1.2 (LK3) but I keep getting an install update request although the folder titled as the update in /cache is empty (so there's nothing I can pull from that).
I also pulled the modem.bin but it says invalid file when I try to upload.
*These are the files for LK3
Camera updated to LL2. Updated files attached.
MC4 files attached
So maybe I screwed myself updating all the way to MK4 update. Can't root using framaroot now like I did with all the others. Gonna try a few other options.
Can someone please tell me the adb command to find whether a bootloader is locked or not? I have tried several I've found online and don't receive anything conclusive. Thanks.
Be back in a week or so. Final project is in the beta test stage so I am swamped until it reaches the release candidate.

I dug through everything I have but no efs.img and if I remember right, you'd need one with your IMEI. Best bet is probably a factory reset.
Didn't help... tried factory reset with stock recovery and cwm recovery... nothing helps... i don't know a way to get it fixed... will keep looking...
Finally got it fixed. As GC100 is similar to S3, downloaded efs file for S3 flashed it via odin through bootloader and voila... attaching the file for reference if anyone else gets into trouble!

Stock Bootloader

Does anyone know where I can get just the stock bootloader image to flash via TWRP?
Long story short I F'd up my bootloader and now Odin will not flash a stock BL file do to a version mismatch and to make matters worse I can't find a way to restore to stock baseband so my network isn't working. If someone can share a backup that'd be super
EDIT: Forgot to specify I need it from a TMobile variant (J700T) for firmware APK6 or APK3 (Odin doesn't seem to want to flash the stock BL from my Odin ROMs perhaps because there is a version mismatch in the phone?)

download latest stock rom at sammy..
Already tried. Looks like I am officially a victim of a partial brick (Odin wont flash BL because it thinks I'm downgrading and I have no Baseband/network) I'll try and see what I can do through TWRP since I can still flash that through Download mode. I made no backups myself but would restoring another TWRP backup solve it perhaps?

No dice my dude. However, I did find something else
Turns out when I check the bootloader version it reads J700T1UVU3AQC3. Sure enough there was a baseband update and security update a few days ago and my device must've installed it while I was asleep. This would explain why my baseband is broken AND why Odin doesn't want me to flash the APK6 Bootloader.
So there's good news and bad news. The good news is there is hope but the bad news is I am currently at the mercy of whenever someone decides to upload this firmware on the internet (if anyone does that is)

You are lucky because you at least have a functioning bootloader and a working TWRP. You are unlucky because AQC3 firmware is not available publicly yet. In any case, bootloader cannot be flashed in TWRP as far as I know. Your only option is to get your missing ACQ3 partitions from someone else's back up. IF you have messed up your EFS partition though you are out of luck.
So exactly what partitions do you need? I may be able to give you those partitions if I have a personal backup of those from the past. Right now I have modified so many things that a current copy of my partitions will probably do you more harm than good.

As far as I know I just need a main system.img backup
Edit; to specify, if I was flashing with Odin it would be what I would put in the AP slot
The phone in its current state is extremely slow and buggy. My intuition tells me that the older Android version does NOT like the new fiirmware (The bootloader is also where the firmware/device config info is stored IIRC)

Well lucky me Ive got a similar situation though I reflashed with a 3-part HOME file from sammobile to unroot/unTWRP, but did so not realizing the darn BL wasnt included. Lucky for me my build versions matched, so Odin flashed flawlessly, the device boots as if it were brand new, stock recovery and all, everything functions/boots as it should, splash, factory setup, TMobile network works fine etc - only problem is both SafetyNet tests fail, so Google wont let me use use Android Pay and every other payment app that hooks into their API shuts me out. I also noticed a lightning-fast error right before going into the bootloader if you boot from the stock recovery (its so fast I need to capture the log to see what it is).
Any suggestions on where to find a BL to go with my J700T & assuming I find one, any nuances I should be aware of when flashing so as to avoid a potential brick situation?
FYI I flashed with the below from sammobile (and yes I was already at AQF1).

The bootloader is always included with the firmware and is most certainly included with the firmware you posted.
Safetynet probably fails because you need to factory reset.

Got OTA update bin file for Galaxy S8 Unlocked (US Version)

Hey everyone, I managed to download the OTA update bin file from FOTA server for the S8 Unlocked (US Version). If anyone is interested in testing and post the update I will leave the link to the OTA bin file. I am actually working on it as well. I am assuming it should be flashable as long as you have latest Nougat 7.0 for the unlocked S8 or if you have installed Unlocked firmware in your Carrier branded Galaxy S8. I will be doing some test as well but I need some rest before I start working on it again. Will keep you all posted and hope some of you guys would like to do some test with it. I am pretty sure we will figure out how to flash it.
As far as I know from last year you could flash update.zip file which was extracted from the Verizon S7 Edge. Since its unlocked firmware/OTA file I would assume it will be doable.
Normally you will have to keep the file in your sdCard and go to recovery mode and apply update from SD card but we will definitely have to do some testing if that doesn't work out.
Link for the OTA update bin file: https://mega.nz/#F!k6IjlJoC!VJJ3gyVaF8ofphE1fZvD8A
EDIT: found a way to download whole firmware will post sometime after midnight once I get off from work.
we cant flash .bin files. Doesnt work. We already tried.
thank you! I would love to know how to flash this if possible?

1 possible way might be to extract the content of bin with 7zip. then compress it with 7zip as a zip file. name it the same name. put on sdcard and reboot to recovery. then apply update from sdcard and prey to what ever god you like that it works.

Nope is not working there are two errors 1st is e.footer is wrong and 2nd is signature verification failed
If someone has a Snapdragon S8 with bootloader unlocked and TWRP, maybe you can sideload it by disabling signature verification?
When flashing updates via stock recovery create a folder call FOTA in SD card and place file there rename it update.zip just make sure you don't end up with update.zip.zip

Yup I saw it just went live. I reverted back to Nougat and was trying to get the OTA update.zip file. And noticed that it just went live. For some reason it did not detect that I was already registered and asked me to registered again. I wonder if everyone who did it by bypassing server has to register again to claim their actual spot for later updates.

Don't know and don't care. It's downloading officially now brother and I'm a happy camper lol once it download I will do factory reset and have it fresh
Does anyone know if we can use SamPWND root method but without clearing cache? I am assuming I can do that by not flashing CSC which contains the cache partition.
I am trying to grab update.zip from cache partition.
Turns out my assumption of update.zip file being stored in /cache were wrong its actually stored in /data/fota folder. I guess we are out of luck here. I was thinking what is that converts .bin file to .zip file instantly after downloading onto Galaxy S8. I don't see any other way beside renaming and adding signature (though it already has the signature from Samsung.

I just officially download and installed it. But wanted to do a fresh start basically a factory reset and download everything from scratch. If I do the factory reset would it kick me out of beta and take me back to 7.0 or just take me back to 7.0 or will start with 8.0?

Please advice on my earlier question brother.
You guys think FlashFire could flash it?

Reverted to stock. There are some issues. (SOLVED)

I reverted to stock after messing up my BLN-L24. The ROM is a bit different than the one that shipped with the phone. Some apps are missing. The play store doesn't seem to detect updates even though they can be updated manually when searched. The phone also wont let me update to the latest version. The os it shipped with could update to the latest security update. The play store also says the phone is uncertified. Why is this ROM different? Is there any way i can force an update?
is model number and everything in about section still the same ?

Yea. I figured it out. I flashed the updates in the wrong order. So i was missing all of the USA files because they were flashed before the actual ROM

Don't u have any old TWRP backup which consists of OEM info, vendor, product, boot ???
If not, i think you have to use Huawei update extractor on US firmware
Twrp backup would have made the process easy and reliable
There is something very screwed up with the OTA updates for this model phone right now. Consider yourself lucky that your phone still works, I'm dealing with a BLN-L24 that is more than likely unrecoverable all due to some wierd firmware that the official updater installed on the phone on Christmas Eve. Its like the servers are sending bad firmware that isn't for this model but the phone accepts it since it's OTA.
If you haven't read it yet please check out my thread and tell me if you are experiencing anything similar since your OTA. Check out the 3rd post too.

I forgot to mention in my post that overall the phone ran extremely sluggish for a fresh update even though I have no idea what firmware was on the phone. All I know is it was completely foreign to me in all aspects....it was just very wierd overall and in pretty sure you know exactly what I mean since you said it was different.
As for uncertified in play store, try clearing app data for play store and see if it changes to certified.

Unfortunately i don't. I will try to flash the files from the update file with the extractor.

I flashed the vendor, boot, recovery, and system images with fastboot and then installed the update through erecovery. First i flashed update.zip. Then i flashed update_data_full_BLN-L24_hw_usa. Im still missing all of the USA features. I know all of the apks are in the update_data_full_BLN-L24_hw_usa folder but they arent being put on the system. Is there something i could be missing? Also the install time for update_data_full_BLN-L24_hw_usa is rather short for its size. Is it just being skipped?

Just to confirm we r on the same lines
U just mentioned that u flashed update.zip
Did u mean 'install it via dload method' .....If installing via dload method...u need to extract update.zip and place the contents in dload folder of sd card.
If u r doing the same....what are the exact apps and features which are missing ?

Yes by flash i mean using the dload method. I extracted the content of the update.zip and put it in the dload folder on the sd card. After that i put the files from update_data_full_BLN-L24_hw_usa folder into dload and run the update. When the phone boots i am taken to a rather boring stock setup without any bloat apps. Its missing default wallpapers and themes. The play store fails to detect that the preinstalled apps need updates. Its almost like a completely different phone. A completely different broken phone. The apps below should be on the phone
UPDATe: Got an OTA and everything is back to normal. Thanks for the help

Wanting to Flash my Note 20 Ultra and I don't know where to start...

I've never flashed a cellphone and I don't even know if I can flash this one. I bought the phone through and when I was still with Sprint. I was told flashing it might be tricky if not impossible since I bought it through a carrier and was also told to come here and ask. So that's what I am doing. Thanks for any help!
Even you haven't said what you want to flash and why (mean what you want to achieve with flashing)

As above, what do you want to achieve by flashing it, and what do you want to flash to it?

I'm sorry. It was a little late at night and I was trying to put the child down for sleep and was in a hurry. But I'm looking to just flash a stock ROM to get the vendors (Sprint) pre-installed apps off the phone. So I'm not looking to do anything to fancy.
Try flashing non vendor specific rom. But before that simply keep copy of rom which is installed currently, so in case something went wrong, you can restore it.
You can download stock firmware with friza or Sam firmware tool (little search over xda you can find it)
Okay, so I used Frija to get the file and now I'm using Odin to flash it. I have the BL, Ap, Cp, CSC, and USERDATA files. Only issue I have is I have two CSC files and I'm not sure which one to use? One is called HOME_CSC_OMC_OYN_N986UOYN1DUB5_CL20936746_QB38027387_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 and the other is CSC_OMC_OYN_N986UOYN1DUB5_CL20936746_QB38027387_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5. I want to say it's the second one I mentioned but I want to make sure.
Home_CSC* won't delete your data while CSC_* will do.

What data is the Home file saving? Also what's the USERDATA file?
All other data that you have addled other than factory set.
Some apps install as non system, that known as userdata
Okay, Odin said it passed and my phone restarted to a Android Recovery section giving me a ton of options and now I'm nervous... The options are.
Reboot system now
Reboot to bootloader
Apply update from ADB
Apply update from SD card
Wipe data/factory rest
Wipe cache partition
Mount /system
View recovery logs
Run graphics test
Run locale test
Power off
Repair apps
Do I just want to reboot it?
Okay so I restarted it and the phone works, but everything is still the same. If I do a factory restore will that remove Sprint's apps? Or should I redo the process without adding the CSC and USERDATA files?
Sorry for bumping this but does anybody know the answer to my question?

From what I remember once you flash an unlocked firmware (ie. Not carrier branded) you need to factory reset to remove the carrier stuff from the old firmware
But don't quote me on it, just what I remember reading from others threads, I've not had to try it myself

Sounds good. I'll try it when I get home later and am more prepared and report back. Thanks for the help so far everyone!

You can kill 2 birds by using CSC instead of HOME_CSC when you flash the firmware, that initiates a factory reset after the flash (ie. Clean install)

Actually I might just do that then tonight.
Unfortunately, it didn't work... Not sure if I did something wrong but Sprint's app's are still on there.

Which ROM you have downloaded?
If you are flashing same sprint then it will always remain there. Make sure you are flashing unbranded firmware.
