Dear Xiaomi Mi Note 3 owners I would like to get the model as everything sounds very appealing, especially battery life, speed.
I am currently a Google Pixel XL (1st gen) owner, I would be tempted to switch to the Mi Note 3.
From your experience so far with the device, can you please provide me some details/opinions about the camera quality?
I would like to know how it behaves in real life scenarios:
- daylight / low light;
- moving subjects/ focus speeds/ blurring moving targets faces, for i.e. children;
- aggresive noise reduction?
- video recording quality.
And last thing how does it compare to the Pixel Camera ,since DXO Mark gave them same score (I know that 90 was achieved due to portrait mode capabilities and bla bla)? Is this change worthy in your opinion?
I appreciate your participation to the thread!
The quality of the photos was what really impressed me, I'll attach some.
Focus speed it's pretty good; about moving subjects, I didn't test yet.
I did like 2 or 3 videos and the stabilization is pretty good as well, even the sound captured.
Battery lasts easy for 2 days, and I have always the wifi or network data On + BT.

Nice pics.
Still wondering about pictures of moving subjects.
According to DXOmark, it's as good as the original Pixel.

camera superb..rear or front, feel like using flagship phone..good product from xiaomi..
MIUI camera app is known for bad lowlight photos and in some cases that is the situation on this phone too. You can have a look here >>> https://flic.kr/s/aHskrQ7jJp
I can not say how much better pictures are when you use ported google camera since i didnt root my phone so i cant use it.

I have it for about 5 days so i haven't big experience but as i have used it the battery is so good.
I started playing psp games(using bluetooth gamepad attached + wifi) from 11:15 to 3:00 and the battery drained from 100% to ~45%.
It was good if you imagine that i had wifi + bluetooth + psp emulator in working continuously

Today I had 7.30h screen time and lasted 2days, with wifi/network on and the most used app was Facebook(the big battery drainer).
Camera quality on MIUI camera app is close to ported Google Camera, but can't beat its HDR+ (enhanced) results. However, it's done in a much faster speed (MIUI vs HDR+ vs HDR+ enhanced = instant vs 1 second vs 5 seconds). With HDR+ turned off, the quality is more or less the same.
Battery life is very good if not amazing.

Great dude .. I will try to buy Note 3 128 version soon. You know the issue that there is no a separate fourm to support this device as well as no developers, and the only custom ROM available is https://download.mokeedev.com/?device=jason.
Thanks.

mi note 3 camera is better than s7 or g6?
On pair if not better. But i would say it can compete with best. Only drawback is night photos but i heard it got fixed in latest china roms.

What about moving targets, children for example? Does it compare to pixel in this matter?
If it is day it is fine but in the night it struggle. I usually take a lot of pics while i walk my dog and i didnt notices during the day that they are blurred.
Put 1 just for example.

What exactly happens in low light? It struggles focusing moving targets, focus becomes much slower, or overall picture quality degrades, like noisy textures, bad color reproduction?

Read your post twice. Still desperately trying to find a sense in it that would justify opening yet another camera thread. Camera still superb at good conditions. And really crap at lowlight and fast moving objects. Shutter speed is pathetic. ONEs video/sound recording also way better. And I tested both for weeks. But wait: that's been basically said on every second page here.

I hate the way reviewers just say Galaxy S4......WHICH VERSION????
They are both very very different!
I think Samsung could do better camera. In low light conditions it is crap, shutter speed is still very low and on 1080p videos you've got tearing smearing with picture zoomed in.
You know, low-light (especially with motion) is the weak-spot of the GS4 camera but we have plenty of examples of high shutter speed images in the various camera threads.
Captures of hose water, kids jumping and so on are "frozen" as long as it's medium light or above.

My low light experience with the S4 is superb. It's able to capture, in night mode, even pictures made in a dark room.
Anyway, use the flash if you in a dark place
I would agree, the s4 really has got itself a very good camera. Im an outgoing person and I take most of my photos in high or medium lights. Its very seldom that I would take pictures of something or someone in low lights. I would use a flash if i really want to capture them with as much detail as possible.
Heres my very first shot of my s4 after i got it out of the box. It was very cloudy thst day. I cropped the fountain area only.

All cameras are useless in low light unless you can control the shutter speed and keep the camera stable. Even high end Cannon or Nikon cameras need a good flash or a tripod to get good results in those kinds of conditions. If you have unwanted motion in the framing then it's game over. At the end of the day, if you can't get light through the lens and onto the sensor, you can't expect to get good pictures. There are dirty tricks that can are employed, such as a high ISO speed, merging images, or a large low res sensor, but at the end of the day you're still making sacrifices with the image.
This low light camera business has become a proper skit for selling smart phones.

My first Mate 8 arrived on the 10th Dec but was soon replaced by a new one due to charging problem (does not switch to fast charge mode). My replacement Mate 8 arrived a few days ago and while everything looks fine I noticed that both mate 8 produce very unclear photos, just like taken by a low resolution camera. Since both Mate 8 have the same problem so I presume it is not an isolated issue. Also many Mate 8 users has expressed the issue with their camera In Huawei China mate 8 official forum.
Below are crop from photos taken from Galaxy S5 and Mate 8 under the same spot and same condition.
Also when I use hardware info app to look at the phone parameters I found that the Focus Distance setting is very different from the Galaxy S5. Is this normal?
Camera settings:
Mate 8: Focus Distance (infinity, infinity, infinity)
Galaxy S5: Focus Distance (0.1, 1.2, infinity)

There is a new update (B129SP02) which optimizes the camera.
Thanks I will give it a try.
Updated to B129SP02 and there is noticeable improvement on the picture quality. However it still doesn't deliver the details and sharpness as the Galaxy S5 did.

Putting the camera issue aside, the Mate8 is a very capable phone indeed. Everything is fast and smooth like the iPhone. The fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate and I use it to make payment, to unlock the phone and other sensitive apps. The fast charge is a delight and the battery life is, to my experience, very good, which lasts 50% longer compared to Galaxy S5 when used the same way. Also the onboard speaker gives a good bass output.
So it is not a bad phone at all and it is a shame being let down, currently, by the camera.
Camera is fine on mine. Night shots are great even when you crop.

Hi all, I am sure some of you have read some news/article about Vernee Mix 2. Currently offered at $169 at Gearbest is really an attractive offering: https://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_906061.html?wid=11&eo=oW2S2pV9VFvgw47f
However, other than Xiaomi I am really concerned about software updates that Chinese mobile phone manufacturer will provide. I have been a Xiaomi user for few users (since MIUI 5) and is very happy with the way their support their ROM.
On paper Vernee Mix 2 looks really good .. and is a lot of phone for that price. I am sure that the hardware wouldn't bad ... but I am really not sure about the software.
Those who have experience in using other Vernee products, please share your experiences. Thanks.
I've already ordered, it will take from now up to 3 weeks till it arrives, a better and more expensive phone ist the doogee mix 2 . I'll see first what vernee can do.

Yes I hope so too - check this out - First Proper Review

Also ordered, mostly because of camera.
It has f2. 0 and stabilization, it must be at least OK.
And it is beautiful.
Hope that someone will port twrp soon.
Ordered it also, i hope XDA will help us with some good roms and TWRP for it
Finally arrived after a month of waiting. It's absolutely beautiful. Look much better than my Oneplus 3T. Ok camera, not that bad. No issue so far after a few days. Almost pure google experience. Buttery life is pretty good too(Outstanding standby time, 0.6%/Hr.). Should get about 6 Hrs of screen time at least. Very happy so far.
Hi all!
I'm thinking of buying this phone or Xiaomi Mi A1, advantages of Vernee Mix 2 are bigger baze-less display (almost same dimensions of body), better CPU, more RAM (I'll grab 6GB version), battery, but on the other hand Xiaomi A1 will definitely have better support of developers here on XDA and Xiaomi (Android Oreo update, TWRP, ROOT, custom ROMs, etc.).
I'll see in next few days which one to grab (around 200$ on 11/11 promotion), but would like to hear you thoughts

Good Morning. Send us the prints and some photos, please.
What about ois? Is it real or just fake ad?
fake dual camera?
I have bought a Vernee mix 2.
It is realy beautifull phone. I like the screen, the battery life and android stock. There were not bad aps installated...
BUT :
. It is written in the specification that there is dual back camera 13mpx+5mpx but it seems that just the 13mpx exist :
I did 2 test :
First I tried the dual back camera in all mode and in each mode I hid the first camera with my finger and for all the mode I could see a picture on the screen and in each mode I saw exactly the same thing when I hid the first camera or when I hid nothing. The second camera has no effect.
When I hid the second camera, I couldn’t see anything on the screen and again it is the same in each modes. It is only the 13mpx camera that works in all mode!!! Never the 5mpx.
Second I installed some hardware information apps and none recognize the dual camera. Only the 13mp but not the 5mp!!!
Does the Vernee mix 2 has realy dual back camera?
Furthermore, the back camera has realy issue to capture the light. outdoor it is good but even in my home whith normal light it is realy not good. Probably the badder of all phone that I had those 5last years
I wrote to Vernee 5 days ago and they did not give me an answer about this.
sorry for my bad english. I hope that it is understandable enough.
Maybe you did recieve a defect phone??, i saw a revieuw of the Vernee mix 2 pro online and the bokeh effect was clearly demonstrated and did work,
If it is true that the vernee mix has not 2 working camera`s and one is fake i will simply send it back and will demand a full refund including postage and payed customfees,
If it has only one working camera and this is true the purchase will simply be a illegal transaction because i did not get what i payed for, the decision of buying a phone is based on the given specs,
If these specs are not true afther ordering the phone it will simply a scam and by that a illegal transaction
I read that a lot of dual camera phones are only using the second camera for depth information , so maybe it is working??
Try to use the bokeh effect on pictures made with one and 2 camera`s, if the bokeh effect is working with only the use of only the 13 mp camera the bokeh effect will be fake and only a software based manipulition of the taken picture.
Please let us know if the bokeh effect is working buy only taking a picute with only the 13 MP camera, if it does not work and is working when using both camera`s the second camera is only working to save depth information and is
working, this is the only way te be sure the second camera is working or fake and not working at all.
as the 5 mp camera is not listed in teh specs maybe the phone you did recieve has a defect.?? or a scam??
I will test my Vernee mix 2 phone as soon as i will receive it, if in the specs the 5 mp camera is not mentionned and listed and not working i will defenatly send it back
as i payed with paypal i have buyersprotection and i am sure paypal will assingn me a full refund because if the second camera is not working and fake and scammmed me with false specs , but i doubt the second camera will be fake
the risk is to high to do such things and will do huge damage to they`re brand name, and i think a lot of costumors will not accept this if this is the case.
Please could you do the bokeh test with one and 2 camera`s and let us know the outcome??

Pixel has best algorithm. No one is close to them. In phones everything is software, it is not to important do we have sony, omnivision or samsung module.
Currently i'm using pixel camera on my leeco and it is amazing, incomparable to any other.
Here is the marketing video from google, but still very honest:
About dual camera in Chinese phones, again problem is in software.
Simply they don't want to pay for software which fully support dual camera. Modules are cheap.
This is interesting text:
https://www.oyewiki.com/tech/are-dual-rear-cameras-on-chinese-phones-fake-6-10-2017
I don't need at all dual camera, i just want main camera to work best it can.
I've been testing out @Arnova8G2 's Google Camera App port (version 5.1.016_v1.4beta5 ) and except for the slow motion mode which crashes the app instantly, it actually works REALLY well on the Zenfone 4 Pro's back camera, despite not being tested for this phone. Doesn't see the second sensor, but that is fine.
HDR+ works flawlessly without any crashes.
Easily beats the photo quality of Asus' own camera app by far, which is a shame because the sensor of this phone delivers quite good quality, and since it has been marketed so specifically as a great camera-smartphone it is kinda strange to see that Asus did not put more work into it.
EDIT:
Innnnnnnnnnnteresting!
The latest firmware update (WW-14.2610.1711.35) lists camera performance improvements, and now after applying that, those odd binary data artifacts no longer appear when using the Google Camera App! Same settings otherwise. Good job Asus! :fingers-crossed::good:
So this is no longer valid:
There is one thing that is odd though, hence this thread.
On each of the HDR+ or HDR+ Enhanced mode pics, there is an odd ribbon of... binary data(?) on the side of the sensor that would point towards the bottom edge where the USB port sits.
If the HDR+ mode is disabled and just the plain regular photos are saved, it doesn't appear. It does also not show up on any files captured with the regular camera app of Asus.
It looks like this:
{

The pattern seems to vary. Here is a part of the same picture corner, across a couple of pics:
I tried fiddling with the settings of the app but I can't seem to get rid of this stuff. Any idea what this is?
Does this show up for other owners of this phone as well?

Easily beats the photo quality of Asus' own camera app by far, which is a shame because the sensor of this phone delivers quite good quality, and since it has been marketed so specifically as a great camera-smartphone it is kinda strange to see that Asus did not put more work into it.
The pattern seems to vary. Here is a part of the same picture corner, across a couple of pics:
I tried fiddling with the settings of the app but I can't seem to get rid of this stuff. Any idea what this is?
Does this show up for other owners of this phone as well?

Hi damnaliens,
Thank you for your test.
As you know, the google camera app is on a higher version,so it's compatible with most devices and camera lenses.
Your test helped me a lot.
I am going to buy ZenFone 4 Pro(128GB/6GB).
Do you suggest that for me?

Yup that is the version of the phone I also got. I'm very happy with it overall, performance is nice, so far no problems, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you plan on getting it as well. :highfive:

I'm so excited than ZenFone 4 Pro(ZS551KL)
I'm an unofficial (official a little) ASUS Advertiser.
Nice Opinion Dear damnaliens.
I seems like IMX362 is better than IMX318!
Good luck.

Excuse me,
Is camera quality good in low light?
How is the portrait mode?
Is optical zoom lens good in daylight?
What's your given score to main(12MP)camera from 100?(for example 90/100)

For a smartphone camera, the performance in low light is satisfactory.
The portrait mode ... is a portrait mode. I feel this is mainly a software thing, so the sensor is not as important for this. I don't have any other phone to compare portrait modes against, my other phones are older and don't blur out the background. The font facing camera is good though.
The optical zoom lens is nice in daylight! In low indoor light it is not being used though, and even 2x zoom is done digitally. I wish there was a clearer indicator that this is the case, or at least a button so I can still use the more grainy zoom lens image. But again, software thing.
Lastly, hmmm. I think with the google camera app, the main 12MP camera can rival or beat the rating of the Pixel 2 phones, so something in the range of 95+/100 or higher. With the Asus app, the pictures look a bit worse because they're processed less intelligently. You can save raw images though so I feel it is not that important anyway. The camera hardware itself though is impressive, the autofocus is FAST!

Today I received my first pixel, and I was so hypped about a real google camera, but I'm kinda disapointed, here is a selfie test from pixel 3a versus my old redmi note 7 with Gcam in it
The pixel its not badd, but the 200$ and older phone seems more detailed, I dont know, but for selfie, its not a real update. Is there a modded gcam that works better than the original one?

Here's my two cents:
The pixel front facing camera is not it's strong suit. It's main/rear camera, however, I will put it up against *any* camera on the market today. I use it for professional photography, shoots, high school senior pics, weddings, landscapes, etc. It's simply incredible.
I rate it 9.5/10 (I'd give it a 10, but of course, there's always room for improvement.)
The front camera, I'd give a 7/10. Mine has tons of noise, especially in low light settings. Probably arising from an auto ISO that is set too high. It's also pixelated to an extent.
What I would recommend is to try a couple of other apps that I use: 1) ProCam X (paid). 2)Manual Camera DSLR (paid). 3)Cymera
Or, use cstark27's gcam PX v4.3 --- it's a powerful gcam mod thats made specifically for the pixel phone. This camera allows you to fine tune at a level that you'll not ever find on the app store. If Google camera is a 9/10.. this version is a 12!!
Good luck. Let us know how it goes!

Hi, i'd like the xml config file for the PX too, if you have one. There are so many parameters in there, it would be nice to have a setting from someone with experience in photography.

The beauty of the PX camera is that it's pretty much plug and play. Without a single change in the lib patcher, it'll capture some amazing shots. This is because it's tuned for the pixel phone out of the box.
The only settings that I've tinkered with are the darken sky and noise.
But unfortunately, my pixel 3a bit the dust a few days ago. Water damage from sweat! Can you believe that sh!t?? I had a case on it, and was talking for over an hour while hiking. The sweat built up inside the case, and the phone began experiencing phantom touches all over the screen. I immediately powered it down. Placed in rice for 48 hours. Blew out with a hairdryer. Powered back on, and had an inoperable screen with rapid phantom touches. Within 5 minutes the screen started glitching out. I could no longer power it down. Nothing worked. And 30 minutes later it went black. Never has worked since.
So it looks like I have a dead Pixel 3a for sell lol. (Don't confuse this for an ad! It's a joke).

So you say quality is better than stock google camera out of the box? i think i will give it a try, thanks.
I have no root or magisk but i think this is only needed for the longer shutter nightshots, right?

I can't say with absolute certainty that it's "better" than the stock google camera. What I do know for certain though is that the ability to change and tweak multiple settings, creates a much better environment and gives you the potential to create better shots.
I have three different gcam versions on my phone. I use NGC's build, cstarks 4.5, and GreatnessBuild.
I have drastically different settings for each. NGC is tweaked for Portrait Style photos. Greatness is for high quality HDR shots. And CStark is for general use, but especially for astrophotography.
But let me be clear, I'm not saying that these versions are better for the uses that I use them for. I simply needed three versions, so that I could optimize them for specific uses.
I will say that the cstark 4.3 and 4.5, is absolutely without a doubt the best night sight and astrophotography version I have ever used. I highly recommend it.
But again, as far as any of these versions taking better shots out of the box as compared to the standard factory google camera.. I'm not so sure that they are. The fact is, the pixel 3a takes the best shots I've ever seen. I don't know what you could improve about it. The colors are perfect. Lightning is the best in the game. Fine Detail holds fast at up to 6-7x, and is fairly useable at up to 15-20x. (Another benefit of using some of these custom gcam builds is that it increases maximum zoom past the 7x factory preset. In fact, one goes up to 150x. I've personally taken ultra-long range shots at 30-40x and had them capable of making out exactly what I was looking at.)
I hope this info helps.
