Xiaomi Mi A1 - next update when? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi guys,
We finally get the long awaited Oreo update. And this is awesome at least for me, but.
Besides all new great features that bring to us Ore Update we all know that there a some bugs here: Size of the icons in notification bar, Do not disturb Line which is with white letters on white background and so on.
As a former user of Nexus 5X I must say that a lot of bugs was fixed with September and November security patch update. Let me mention it one more time: Security Patch update. So, if we receive long awaited Oreo in the month of December it should includes all the fixes till November. But wait it doesn't. It is the same Oreo as I received on my Nexus 5X in August with the same bugs as on Mi A1 + some additional bugs because it it has different Sepcs.
What is your opinion about that, and how do you think when we will receive the January security patch with some fixes from Xiaomi?

It is weird, considering that 1) the device was announced in Jan and released in March, that would have given them at least some time to update the security patches, and 2) The new update that was just released in March is still on Jan's security update base
Anyone else has anything different on their device from Europe for example?
No. Here in France, the patch is from January. But haven't received yet the last update like OP.

I totally agree with you, no update in the UK either
Has anyone experienced call issues on the updated firmware? I've had a couple of occasions where calls will drop out mid call, and then the phone app seems to be confused and then im unable to dial out immediately.
Not sure if network related or phone.
I agree, my US variant is showing Jan 1st 2017 for Android security patch level. And of course my company is restricting any email access to android devices using anything older than Jan 5th security patch level. So my new phone is now useless for work. I should have bought a Pixel XL.

Or, just a crazy idea: Relax and wait until Xiaomi tech's distributes it properly! That worked just great with Jan 1 update!!

Based on what ?
Btw majority of the people here doesn't realize how OTA works (pretty much the same as miui), they first push update to a small selection of users and beta testers, if there is some bug they don't push it further, until they solve whatever bug. When the update is ready (they can push several updates to a small selection of people, while the majority will wait) they push it to everyone. That was the case with oreo. And that's why you shouldn't force update by any method, then wait peacefully until the update is ready for everyone. Forcing something that isn't 100% ready by methods that aren't 100% safe will result by whining about millions of bugs and bashing Xiaomi for something that is user's fault.

Yes, you are right indeed, but Oreo in Mi A1 is not perfect. I got my hands in the device in january 29th and received the update in the sameday. I did anything to get the update. Sometimes you just gotta accept that one update is not the way it should. But, for what I've seen, the update was even worse and it's quite good now. Hopefully, it'll be even better with the february update.

I didn't say it's perfect (bad camera for example), but it isn't far from perfect, there isn't perfect rom/android. Oreo is good, I can use the phone every day without any issues, and that's the point.
No forced update, received it round 22 of January and still not a single bug found... And I use my phone like crazy as a dashcam, obd2 scanner, photo making and editing, gps, music player and a lot of multitasking....

November security patch discussion

It's a rather big download this month (200mb+), does anyone know what's changed? I've not spotted anything so far.
Xiaomi announce patch notes for security updates?.
rumors say that xiaomi rolls out big security patches shortly before rolling out new android version. so maybe Pie is coming
Maybe they needed more space for including new bugs like the one with Dutch language.
Don't know how reliable this is but the chart says 2019 1st quarter for Pie update.

The problem with the phone waking up inside the pocket has been fixed.
New *** New ***
Memory is now specified in GB-inches
The November update fixed a huge problem for Italian users.
After 9.6.4.0 update (June?) most of them lost the second SIM slot; I mean, the SIM was inserted and active, but MIA2Lite didn't registered it. So, unusable at end.
This update fixed this issue, finally
i think this release feels a touch snappier.
Any big change? I'm still in September waiting for a big update in order to flash from zero.
Thanks

Why do all of you are waiting for pie? What are the benefits you suppose?
I'm only interested in tech benefits, all what has to do with "looking better" or "kiddy playings" isn't worth updating in my eyes.

All the new function and gesture are tech benefits to me, what are you expecting as your "tech benefits"?
for example stock-Camera with nightsight like gcam, integrated adblocker, firewall and so on. Its basically a linuxsystem, so why we could only use underlying resources like iptables only with thirdparty software and rooting? Maybe i'm too old, but new gestures, brighter colors are for me "kiddies playing ground".

A usable android auto.
Ok im not sure if this was here before or its a bug but i dont think so or havent noticed it pre update... When the phone is locked and u just press the power button to light it up to see the clock, and dont touch it further, the screen stays awake in lockscreen for the full 1min that is set in the display awake settings... Shouldnt it be wake like just a couple of second in lockscreen when u just dont unlock or touch it? Im think that was the case before cant remember rly... I know every phone i had before does that...

General September Security Updates out, except for the 6a

September Security updates are up for all currently supported Pixels EXCEPT, wait for it, that's right the Pixel 6a. Google claims that it is coming "later this month".... https://9to5google.com/2022/09/06/android-13-pixel-september-update/

I had the battery thing, but when I switched back to the Pixel Launcher, the problem has gone away and my battery is lasting two days now, during my normal usage.
I agree and don't mind waiting if they tie up a few loose ends.
If you opt into the beta program, you can get the update. Mine is installing now.
Reporting back. The beta release definitely helped out my FPR response. Thank goodness. I'll keep an eye on battery drain now.
Thank you. Downloading now as well.
I am hoping the phone heating issue and the gps issue get resolved.

Good question. Since the FPR is QPR1 B1 is flawless, at least for a large majority of users, and we still have the August security patch level is there some behind the scenes fixes in the stable Sept patch unrelated to the security issues? Hopefully so. Also did the Sept patch update the Google Play system to October which QPR1 did?

Seems like it to me.
Took me hundreds of presses to add a new FP before, this time I think I had 1 fail to read (big scar though that digit too) while adding 3 prints. Quick testing showed roughly 1 fail to unlock out of about 20 tries, where before it was roughly 1 successful unlock in the same 20 tries.
Edit after 2 days use: While it's lots better, it's not as good as my prior phone, a Moto X4. Some may be user issue (X4 had a dedicated reader EXACTLY where I grab the phone from my pocket), some simple exposure (had the X4 for 4 years, 6a for 2 weeks), but I suspect some is the 6a too.

It's been out less than a week. Google rolls new releases out over several weeks time. I wouldn't worry about it unless the next release comes out before you get the current one.
"me too" posts aren't helpful

General Don't update to the latest November patch!

I got my s22 ultra a couple of weeks ago and I installed one UI 5 using Odin. The battery was really bad it would last me max 3h with a full charge. And after the last update the November patch the device is almost unusable. After updating to the November patch the device heats up really badly before it wouldn't heat up even if I was playing any game and playing music at the same time keep in mind I have the Exynos version. The notifications are bugged when receiving a notification and swiping it to dismiss it while the notification sound is playing it will make your volume really low and you can't turn up the volume it fixes itself only if you receive another notification and let it play the sound fully.
Update: Now when using the camera the phone heats up almost instantly and just lags really really bad
Until now the s22 has been garbage.
All is good for me. Try to reset your phone.
Same here, updated it and have not had any issue...
you say you updated through odin did you update with a different model firmware because most exynos models got the update through the phones software update so nif it was different model firmware that might be the problem.
For me, November patch improved battery life over October one
Snapdragon here; November patch lasts longer than the initial firmware.
I dont notice any changes, but overall the battery life has improved.
Actually, battery life is noticeably better. Kinda reminds me of beta 3
all fine here

You should maybe Google about what's exactly contained within the Play System update.
There's no such a thing as cosmetic change and if that's so - Your November patch solves the hardcore part and this just adds the cherry on top now, wouldn't it?

Must be an issue with the Exynos model. The Snapdragon had poor/inconsistent battery life for a few charging cycles after the October and November Android 13 updates. After 6 days, it has settled down to about where it was on Android 12. The updates reset a lot of the battery optimization software.

More likely, it is because he's rooted and probably has some crapware installed. From what I've read, the official update from Samsung is a big improvement for both Exynos and Snapdragon models.
