help needed
i have a strange issue i cant figure out.
always on display...on my galaxy s8+...got an analogue clock on it....but when i take phone from my pocket its always showing the wrong time, typically the time of when i put the phone in my pocket...like time doesnt update on it....second hand is still going around on the always on display clock but it doesnt update the time.
if i am explaining that to make sense.
both o.s. and a.o.d. are updated. neither a.o.d. or clock are in any doze or battery optimization lists. and i am not using power saving mode.
Try to go into Settings->Apps->Always on Display and storage and delete data and cache. Might help.

Dont know if it`s gonna help but try : settings - display - untick "keep screen turned off". Maybe when the phone is in your pocket AOD turns off and when you take it out it doesnt update or something
still same with that. again, thanks for trying and your time.
its trivial anyway as digital clock is ok...just liked the analogue one, thats all.

i'll give this a wee bump...you never know

I was poking around the phone today and I think I found an app' that really doesn't need to run at all times and probably doesn't need to be installed on the phone.
I noticed Adobe, which in the PC world has it's own "auto updater" ["AIR", IIRC] and I noticed HTC has their own little "widget" installed - Tell HTC.
Has anyone else notice this before?
For the guys who haven't seen it,it's in Settings/About Phone/Tell HTC.
Try turning that widget off and let me know if you see a difference.
I sure did.
My apologies if this was covered before....I'm new here and it's late.
what type of difference? i don't see this app/program running in my task manager. the only time i have seen it come up was when the phone crashed and i got a screen prompt that said "notify htc about unexpected shutdown with Tell HTC".

The Adobe reader app updates through the market so it is the market that checks every so often or when you go to it not like on a pc where it is the program that checks.
The Tell Htc widget/app is to report system errors to Htc, so it wont really make any difference. The only difference you will see if it is turned off is that when you have a system crash the pop-up asking if can send the crash info to Htc wont happen any more and no info will be sent.

I noticed the screen was much more responsive to touch gestures.
I didn't take notice of any change in memory usage.
I guess I'll have to look at a few more things.

Thanks for clarifying that so I don't need to hunt through menus and menus looking for it.
Probably a total placebo effect, but I feel like things are a little snappier? I'll keep an eye on the screen responsiveness as I go through this power cycle and will report back with some thoroughly unscientific results.
that is good trick. I also don't like the "show me" which is part of sync.
Don't know how to uncheck it.
this makes my phone no faster or snapier than what it is

You need to keep that enabled to use the Market, unless you want to enable it every time you do.

Good to know, but I put that one up there with spyware.
I'll turn it on if I ever need it.
Yup, this definitely speeds your phone up. It worked for me by making everything more responsive. I thought everyone already knew about this. Its not placebo. Its legit.

Thanks my screen is wicked fast.
Just to follow up from my post earlier today with a quick, anecdotal report:
I disabled the HTC reporting as suggested by the OP around noon today, while I was at ~80% charge. It's about 9 hours later after moderate to heavy use today, and at ~15% charge my screen still has yet to lag out on me during unlocking or swiping between screens.
For reference, I would usually notice little stutters throughout the day, and especially more so once my battery dropped below the 25% threshold.
No idea why something as seemingly innocuous as error reporting would have such a marked effect, but that is honestly the only variable that I can recall changing all day today.
The responses in this thread seem like a mixed bag of results, but hopefully these good results continue for me and some lucky others!
just disable "show me" with fre3vo way better than to turn off background data..
Glad it helped some people.

your carrier probably doesn't support Automatic date/time, use clocksync from the playstore.

I don't think so, I never had this problem with other devices. my N5 just came normal after a restart, I think it's the problem of yhe OS that has some bugs...

To piggy back off of LordOfAngels,
Do you have Automatic Date & Time turned on? You can check this by going into Settings -> Date & Time.
Make sure you also have Automatic time zone turned on as well.
If that doesn't work, try reconnecting to your carrier's network.
in Settings under "Wireless & Networks" tap More. Then tap Mobile Networks -> Network Operators
Wait for it to load and select your carrier. That should sort you out.
If the above doesn't work, try reflashing whatever ROM you're on. If you're on Stock, you might want to bring your device in a carrier's store because that should not be happening if you have automatic date & time and you haven't altered your phones firmware.

Everything just came back after a normal restart. I find out that this device has to be restarted once a day, or it does perform abnormal, like the battery lasts faster and make some heat, the dial pad does not show up right, sometimes a call coming in and i find no way to answer it ... looking for an update soon...

No. I just made a factory reset, it took almost 30 minutes for the erasing process, I thought it would become brick.

Could this be s-view cover problem?? Or something else?

Also helpfull with these issues is to type at least your phone-model and android version, at least. (The easier you can make it for someone to help you...)

Thanks for reply. I do not use anything custom on my phone. Stock and untouched. hehe.
I seem to have found a solution or something. Suddenly my phone also stopped using animations when opening apps. Think this is related somehow. I restarted the phone and all was the same. Then i went into developer mode and the transitions scale thingy was set to 0! I quickly put it back to 1x and everything was smooth again and i have no problem with the home button anymore...
But what could have changed that setting? I havent even used developer setting yet on the phone. (How can i remove the option in settings again?).
Must be a bug in thouchwiz perhaps?

Mine show me running session when i'm still on chair. Factory reset no works for me...
Mine gave me 40 hours of normal use and was only at 50% so I'm not complaining. Weather works better too.
Mine keeps telling me to get off my ass and get active. Kind of hard to do while sitting at a computer writing lines of code. Then it gets excited when I blow my nose as it thinks I'm exercising. Go figure...

Where do you do that? In Gear Manager? A specific app? I must be overlooking it!
Go to SHealth on the watch apps; scroll all the way over to Settings, then turn off Health Nudges. That should do it.
Never would have found it as I've never actually fired up that on the watch. Thanks! :good:
I was watching a video of tips and tricks for this phone and I saw one tip and now I can not find it in settings. The tip was that you could schedule the phone to auto restart. Just had to pick the day and time and frequency. I have searched all through phone and I just can't find it. I then searched for video I watched and I can't find that now. Anyone offer some assistance please.

Actually it defaults to once every 24 hours if you don't schedule it yourself. I bet a few of them think they have an issue because of this.

Maybe on your US-device, but NOT on the international one (SM-G955F)!
When "once in a week" is not set, it won't restart every day!
Can someone tell me the benefit of auto restart? I can do this on my phone but not sure for the benefit.
No need for that. My phone restarts on its own like every other day...
Can someone tell me if the AT&T model supports this feature or did they remove it?

A great feature of the settings panel is the lookingglas. You can search for keywords and directs you to the relevant setting or section.
Feature enabled but no restart
I have it set restart ok Mondays at 5am but nothing happens. To test I've set it for 10 minutes in the future and set the phone down. Nothing happens. Factory reset and still nothing. Any idea? Does anyone know the package responsible for this feature?
