MY BAD, PLEASE MOVE THIS TO THE CORRECT SECTION. I'M REALLY SORRY.
Hello!, my mother bought this phone for her in the US and from day 0 it has been having problems. She couldn't use wifi or bluetooth for example, and sometimes it just kept restarting till it worked again, but without any connectivity functions, except mobile data.
I tried to fix this updating the phone using Samsung Smart Switch to the last build (AQL1) but now the phone is stuck on the boot screen no matter what I do.
Tried flashing with Odin, it worked, but the phone is still on boot loop. I read somewhere in this forum that you can install an older version of the bootloader to take the phone out of this hell and I did it, using the build AQK2 bootloader but no luck, same problem.
Also, the phone doesn't have USB debugging enable nor OEM unlock either. I can access both recovery and download mode though.
At this point I'm out of ideas, can someone help me with this one?
Thanks in advanced.

Thanks for answering. Where I live there is not a single Samsung Service, only at like 1800km from here, that's why I'm trying to solve this by myself but seems that this is a hard one... I hope someone can help me to deal with this as it was a big investment :/
Thanks again!, if someone knows a way to help please tell me.

No I haven't, I will give a try soon through web chat.
I mean, this shouldn't be happening, it's a brand new phone, all over the internet are people with the same problems as me and looks like so far there is no solution.
Maybe it's a faulty phone/hardware? My knowledge is not enough in this matter.
See you!,
Federico.
I need a couple things from you
1. What model does it say on the back of the phone i understand you posted it in the header but please for safety sake .
2. Go into download mode for me so i can see what carrier it lists
3. Try wiping data cache in recovery

Thanks for answering!, here it goes:
1. It says SM-G955U1
2. Carrier: XAA
3. Done, still the same.
An update from my last post:
After a few bootloops the FRP screen showed up, as the phone can't use wifi yet I managed to access using mobile data and enabled the USB debugging, but after trying to enable wifi the phone froze and went on bootloop again, so still the same but with the USB debugging enabled. I'm currently on the build AQK2.
Thanks again, and I hope we can fix this.
Update 2:
I cleared the cache, after a few bootloops the phone actually boots (gets to the lock screen), and it restarts again while the message "Android is starting" is loading, so now it's a different type of bootloop I guess. It does the same even in safe mode.
I will turn it off for now.

I don't know how many Millions of S8 / S8+ have been sold - But your post is the first that I've ever heard of anything like this... I concur with the recommendation that you call or Chat with Samsung Technical Support - Preferably before you find the phone completely unable to Boot into Download Mode - Get Samsung to help you - or you may risk voiding the warranty if Samsung determines that you are ultimately responsible for the state of the phone ??

Thanks for answering!, sorry for my late response.
Well, if you check samsung's official forum there are a few threads with 15+ pages of people complaining about wifi issues (https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/GS8QA/thread-id/862/page/1 and https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/GS8QA/thread-id/30601/page/1) about bootloop problems, (https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...id/GS8QA/thread-id/3920/highlight/true/page/1) also there is a post on another webpage talking about bootloops on this model and how to fix them (https://thedroidguy.com/2017/12/sol...p-issue-s8-turns-screen-remains-black-1079013).
I know it's not representative, as you said, millions of phones has been sold, but what I meant when I said "all over the internet" is that you can easily find people with this same problem. This shouldn't be happening, not on any phone even less on such an expensive phone.
I think the phone is officially dead, I took it to a well known local technician and even him couldn't fix it. My nearest official samsung service is 1600km away. On the other hand, my aunty got for herself an S8 and it's working perfect, so it's just bad luck for my mom I guess.
The phone had issues since she bought it (wifi and bluetooth didn't worked at all, but she is not really a tech person so she thought it was fine), the phone was working with some bootloops from time to time and after a while it fell from and got a little crack on the top but it didn't change the behavior of the phone, it was still ****ed up. That's the thing, because of the crack I'm pretty sure they won't take it back or even try to fix it (for free at least), they will say the problem is because of the fall. I'd been reading a lot about this and seems that I'm pretty screwed D:
I will sell the phone for parts. At least I will recover 60% of the initial investment.

If you have some 'proof' the problem existed, before the crack, and can prove when the crack occurred, or reasonable determinate approximation, small claims court will vindicate you, and Samsung will have to pay.
Sad to say would take a little time of yours to get them there, but it is an easy process, and with reasonable ability to determine/evidence those two things, a sure win.
But still a PITA.

Well here is something that I hope is the start of some hardcore hacking.
This is an ODIN that I created of stock-rooted ED1 for the DROID Charge. In the course of making this, I bricked my charge (first attempt failed in ODIN) and then created a working ODIN that un-bricked it. I then upgraded to ED2 (I confirmed that I lost root as well) so I could test if this will downgrade back to ED1 and it worked and I have root again!
Instructions for ODIN (for those who are unfamiliar with it):
1. Open ODIN.
2. Put the phone into download mode. Do this by powering off your phone, pulling out the battery, and then holding volume down while connecting it to your pc. A giant yellow triangle should be on the phone's screen and it should say 'Downloading...' ODIN should say 'Added!!' and one of the boxes will be yellow and say '0:[COM#]'
3. Click the button labeled 'PDA' and locate the file you are wanting to flash. For emphasis: YOU MUST USE THE PDA BUTTON!
4. Click start. Do not disconnect the phone while it is flashing, it can cause some serious damage.
5. Wait.
6. When finished, unplug the phone, put the battery back in and power up the phone.
Every time I've flashed this, the phone booted straight into recovery. Just select reboot (press home) and it boots up normally. It should probably be recommended to wipe data and cache afterwards, but I didn't and all of my data stayed in tact.
Multiple people have reported that this works. Use at your own risk. I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone if this doesn't work.
Thanks to imnuts for the HOW-TO thread on creating ODIN builds.
Download here.
Download ODIN here.
to my redbull habit if you feel the need.
I feel dumb for asking, but what are you using to flash this to the phone? I've never used anything other than simple one click root programs, so if you could give a little more detail I'd be happy to try it out.
Download Odin here: http://goo.gl/52aY1
Download Drivers here: http://goo.gl/Tbcca
Download stockrootedED1-20110517.tar.md5 http://goo.gl/kD3Ld
1. Open Odin3 v1.30
2. Remove battery,Hold Vol down. Connect USB to computer and phone then press power. It should take you to a yellow android.
3. Click PDA Button
4. choose stockrootedED1-20110517.tar.md5
5. Click on the Start button
6. Don't Touch and allow the phone to reboot
7. If its taking a while to start DONT PANIC, its perfectly normal
Thanks for the guide, but it doesn't do anything for me, seems like Odin doesn't even know my phone is there. When I plug it in I get the Verizon media manager link to pop up though.
I edited my first post with a link to ODIN and instructions. I guess I'm a little slow with the typing because you beat me to it medjam, but you left out the step of putting the phone into download mode.
Works for me, though the first time I rebooted I didn't have any network reception. Another reboot fixed that.
Wish I could get rid of the "system update available" pop up, but at least I'm rooted again. Thanks!

Once rooted go into your build.prop file and every thing that says ED1 change it to ED2...that should quit the nagging to update. Then restart your phone
Credit goes to Jt3 for that info as he posted it in the Charge forum at android central.

AWESOME!!! So glad to help!
Very nice!
I know that this will kick start the development of this device now that everybody can haz root.
so just to be clear here, this will bring you back from ED2 down to ED1. Does this method require you to have already rooted while you were on ED1 and then upgraded to ED2 and lost it or will this work for everyone?
Thanks in advance

I think the issue is that my damn work laptop is locked down pretty tight so it won't let all the drivers install. Unlike many here, I'm actually not an IT professional so I can't circumvent it. I'll just have to try it at home tonight.

So I sold an unopened, sealed Nexus 5 to someone last night and he's having a problem activating the device.
Here is his description of what happened:
"I popped in the SIM card, the loading proceeded as normally. It said it was activating and then a box popped up saying that "android is upgrading system files" or something like that. It restarted and went back to the language selection screen. I pressed English, next and then it went to the connect to wifi screen, froze and then restarted before I could even connect. Now it just loads on the boot"
I had him boot into recovery and do a factory reset, but the result is the same. I had him do a 2nd factory reset just be sure, but again, same result.
My thought is the system upgrade didn't happen correctly and not is corrupted.
What's the best course of action? Can I use the WugFresh toolkit to flash stock and unroot, or would I have to do it through ADB since the phone can't boot into the system?
I don't want to leave the buyer hanging, he seems like a nice guy, but I'm just not sure how to proceed?
Use ADB and flash the factory image for him.

Easy walkthrough:
1) Install ADB drivers (You can do it with WUG Toolkit).
2) Reboot your device in Fastboot mode (Hold up/down volume and power)
3) Download the latest HAMMERHEAD image from google website.
4) Download the Google SDK (not needed, but you will need Fastboot.exe, so I would recommend downloading the whole thing)
5) Unzip the image (.tar or .tgz I think) to the location where Fastboot.exe is (all the files should be in the same directory, usually platform-tools)
6) Double-click on the flash-all.bat file from the unzipped .tar or .tgz folder, should install stock image on your phone (note that you might need the latest version of Java installed on your computer)
And you're done.
Hope it helped!

Hello, I am the buyer of this Nexus device. I was able to successfully do these steps above, and reload the stock image for the Nexus 5. However, I am still running into issues.
WITH SIM:
I was able to get to the home screen after the initial setup, sent a few test text messages to my Google Voice number successfully, and browse on Chrome for a little bit before the device froze and restarted. After it restarted, I let it load up again, tried setting up my Google account on the device, then it froze again. All of the freezing happens within 3-5 minutes of using the phone.
So I decided to go into the bootloader, and do a factory wipe/cache wipe, and proceed without having the sim card in. I was able to get to the wifi selection screen, select my router, but as soon as the keyboard was suppose to pop up, the device froze and restarted. I am now just stuck on the welcome screen.
Any ideas now?
---------- Post added 29th November 2013 at 12:45 AM ---------- Previous post was 28th November 2013 at 11:56 PM ----------
Update: So I'm not sure what happened, but I ended up locking the device through Wug's Nexus Toolkit, inserted my sim card, and proceeded to set up the phone normally. So far everything has been working perfectly fine. I can receive/send texts, make and receive calls, and do normal functions with the phone without it locking up and restarting. Fingers crossed it'll stay like this.
Any idea on why this would've happened in the first place with the device?
---------- Post added at 01:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:45 AM ----------
Update 2: Well, I noticed that it will randomly reboot every half hour or so it seems. It's kind of random, but I'm not sure what else could be causing these random reboots. The phone itself is working fine, but I just started experiencing random restarts.

It was working fine earlier. I put it on the charger and got it to about 50%, used it for a little bit, then bam. It froze, and restarted all over again. I can use the phone maybe 5 - 10 minutes before it starts to recharge. Sometimes It'll automatically reboot after even unlocking the device.
I would do another factory reset and use it for a bit without any additional apps installed. If you are fully stock and locked with this happening I would think about possibly doing an RMA. Also just and FYI make sure you have the seller of your phone call and transfer the warrenty to you so if an RMA is needed you have the ability to do so.

I think so too. No go after another factory wipe/cache wipe. It reboots automatically after awhile. I haven't had this kind of issue before, so I'm not sure what is causing it.

I was going to try and do that earlier. I will try and do that now, but I can't even get past the bootscreen animation at this point. The 4 dots will do the animation, freeze, and just reboot.
I'll keep trying. But, I really think this is just a defective one. I had a white Nexus 5 a few weeks ago and didn't have any of these issues :crying:

I was going to try and do that earlier. I will try and do that now, but I can't even get past the bootscreen animation at this point. The 4 dots will do the animation, freeze, and just reboot.
I'll keep trying. But, I really think this is just a defective one. I had a white Nexus 5 a few weeks ago and didn't have any of these issues :crying:

Ok. This just sucks. But as with any mass produced product there is bound to be the ocasional issue.

Honestly it sounds like it's hardware related and time for RMA. OP If you do have ADB set up grab the last_kmsg right after the reboot.
Code:
adb pull /proc/last_kmsg
I doubt it will show any kernel panic but it's worth a shot.

From the sound of it he is now not even getting far enough to be able to pull it. I also think RMA is the best option here.

Just saw that. OP by your earlier symptoms I rules out a stuck power button. With the new info I'd look into it further. If the phone is just looping over and over it could be a stuck power button, Mash the power button repeatedly for a minute. Then try and reboot. A few other people have had this on the N5 already and it's a notorious issue on some Samsung phones.
neomorphix said:
I would do another factory reset and use it for a bit without any additional apps installed. If you are fully stock and locked with this happening I would think about possibly doing an RMA. Also just and FYI make sure you have the seller of your phone call and transfer the warrenty to you so if an RMA is needed you have the ability to do so.

If it comes to that, how do I go about transferring the warranty over?
I feel really bad, I just don't get it. I bought two of them, the other buyer hasn't had any problems. Both brand new, sealed, in the box. Go figure.
Hello guys,
I need your assistance with this issue. I got this Boost Mobile LG LS770/Stylo phone from eBay and when I wiped/restored it to clean everything from the other person, the phone still wants me to enter the information from the previous person before I can use it. Of course that is not an option. I tried.
Also, since I am unable to get to the Android OS, I cannot put it in debug mode either. So I tried a few things to no avail. This is what I have done so far:
Put the phone in ADB mode via recovery - Done, but I am unable to sideload anything. I get this error.. "* cannot read 'sideload' *"
Put the phone in download mode "Fireware Update" - Done, and I can see my port as COM3, but when I run the next step, I get a message that says... "Hello, my name is LAF....." and nothing happens.
I tried using the LG one click root tool, but that requires the phone to be in USB debug mode and like I said before, I am unable to even get to the welcome screen in android. I can't get past wifi setup in reality, I can't even skip it.
I have been at this all day today. Can you please help me out? I really appreciate any help you can provide.
Thanks
You need a USB-OTG cable and some files. If you have a USB-OTG i'll reply with what you'll need to do. Also, have you contacted the eBay member letting them no they FRP screwed you and you basically own a brick now?

Also, I forgot to respond to your question. I did contact the eBay guy or lady that sold it to me, but since I'm the one that did the wipe, they are not taking responsibility and I get it. I just would like to be able to use the phone and not waste the money I spent on it. I really appreciate any help you or others can provide.

Thank you for the suggestion , but this method does not work. I have already tried this and after the tool went through all the steps, it still asks for the previous account. I have found on some other forums that LG patched this flaw a few months ago and it is no longer possible to bypass FRP Factory Reset Protection. I guess I have a rock until someone can figure out how to bypass this "Feature", which in my opinion should be illegal because it forces people to buy devices from carriers only and you can no longer sell your phone online to anyone, as you cannot give them the account.

It didn't work for me either... the last security patch disabled user from the settings menu. I did find a way after many hours of work.
Basically once I got to settings I clicked unknown sources and then enabled USB debugging and oem unlock. After that I flashed twrp and then a rooted system image. After that I used http://androiding.how/bypass-google-account-verification-on-lg-g4-g3-and-others and it worked

I honestly don't remember. I'll try to figure it out and get back to you. I think it was through the keyboard. I returned the phone already so I do t have it on front of me.
Look for anything with terms of service. Once you're on the internet you can download the settings app that everyone uses on the internet.

Web trust me i went crazy with this for 3 days. My friend gave me his Stylo from work to unlock and i had this same issue. Flashed back to 5.1.1e,i,j, using kdz files and all the exploits that these guys are using have been shut down. If your on MM forget it. The only thing that worked for me was that tool i linked in the other thread. I hope your wrong on the virus part, ill check my laptop, but your the first person to mention that. Either way i flashed back to 5.1.1 from MM, used the tool, rebooted and it worked i signed in with his gmail.

I understand and I apologize if I sounded like I was shutting your advise down. That was not my intention. I was just stating what my virus tools detected and my experience. Regardless, I decided to ignore the virus warning and let the tool run and do what the steps on the word document stated. It went through all the steps without issues and I got the same matching screen as in the tutorial document. However, after I reboot, I still get the same screen that reads, login with a google account previously associated with this device.
Now, the one piece I'm not sure I understand from your message above is the part about flashing to 5.1.1 from MM using kdz files. How can you flash the phone when you cannot get into the settings to enable usb debug mode? I have tried everything. I even downloaded a rom file image that I placed on an Micro SD card and tried running it from recovery to no avail.
Maybe you are correct and I am just missing a step. Would you mind expanding on the flashing 5.1.1 from MM part? Maybe what steps and files you had to use?
Also, I'm not sure I understand this portion of your message. You signed in with who's gmail?

is there a software older than 5.1.1 that can be flashed to the device?
You can use touch assistant to get in to settings and then disable all google aps, works for me on lg stylo 6.0, PaulieP he is the person that found this method
My TAB 2 7.0 was not rooted and was in the bootloop all of a sudden. The issue is when it reboots, it lets me enter lock screen password and when I try to use something - It reboots. I tried to do the Clear cache partition and Factory Reset from android boot menu (power + volume up button) which says that DATA WIPE COMPLETE but when I reboot the tab nothing changes, not even the WIFI connections and their passwords. The WiFi remains on and connected to my router.
I deleted those connection from Settings but again it reboots and all deleted wifi connections (which were successfully deleted) are back with their passwords.
I also tried RESET DEVICE from settings, it asked me for my password but when i entered it and tapped on reset my device option - BOOM! it reboots again without resetting.
I searched a lot on net and tried ODIN option with proper firmware but of no use. And most importantly, I did visit authorized service centre before doing any of these, they returned it after trying couple of time to flash it and asked me to change the motherboard(Which would cost me about the price of good android phone - $120).
Can anybody please suggest me any other option than changing the motherboard (which is way much higher than my budget). The option you suggest may be hardware repair or anything else, I may not be able to get it done myself if it is hardware thing but atleast it will help to search the repair option by precisely telling the guy (technician) - what to do?
I have posted this after i saw mentions online about this forum and experts here, I hope you guys help me out as this TABLET is of great use to me.

I never encountered a problem like this before but 2 years screwing with my tab (well bootlooping it with myself) I would suggest rooting it via Odin and Flash TWRP (CWM works too but I prefer TWRP) through odin as well.
After that find a custom ROM, preferably a stable build since you'll be using it for daily use and flash it using TWRP. I would suggest downloading SlimKat or Cyanogen Mod 13 and GAPPS.
You can find a lot of guides (some are step by step) about rooting it through Odin, and flashing TWRP on your tab.
As well as custom ROMS and how to flash it.
Tell me how it goes dude. Goodluck
Edit:
Hmm before flashing custom ROMs, when you try to flash a firmware. Did you make sure that you're using a correct driver for your PC? Samsung Kies does the job but make sure to close Samsung Kies in order to avoid conflicts with Odin. Make sure also to switch your tab to Download Mode when you flash with Odin.
Factory reset but asif nothing happened? I'm sorry but your tab has the dreaded eMMc bug. Only an emmc replacement or a new motherboard can fix it. Sorry.

Dude, firmware flashing was already tried by the technician at the authorised service center, even he couldnt flash it. I tried flashing as you said. But when i went through all the step by step tutorials on flashing or rooting through odin, they all wanted me to turn on the developers options in settings which I can't. Even if i manage to do that, it will just reverse right away after reboot.
The TWRP thing and rooting through odin that you told me are the options left with me. But I am not familiar with all those things so It would be great if you can share any link about the step by step method.

New motherboard is way beyond my budget, so I am left with only one option i.e. eMMC replacement. Is eMMC readily available in the market, if yes then is there any trusted brand or something like that.

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with eMMc replacement although @Android-Andi does have a friend in Austria who can replace/upgrade it for you according to one of his posts.
Although if you ask me, you're better off buying another more recent tablet.

Thanks man. At least now I know what the issue is and what may be the best solution. I am from India so will have to search someone who replaces eMMC here.
It's only 11 screws & 25 bucks (USA) for a motherboard

My apologies if this has been dealt with elsewhere, if so please just point me where to go...
Last week we switched to T-Mobile from AT&T. I had AT&T unlock all 4 of our phones. That was done successfully.
So my wife starts using her S7 and she can make calls and text just fine, but she calls from work saying she has no data. Hmm. So I call tech support. They have me change Access Point info several times, but still no luck. Tech guy "escalates" things to "Engineering" but we haven't heard boo from them.
I was tinkering with the phone and recall Airplane mode can sometimes kickstart data issues, sure enough, if I turn Airplane Mode on, then off, I get full 4G LTE signal and we can surf. But the minute I reboot the phone, we lose data connection until I do the airplane trick.
Note that all of our other phones have no issues like this, and yes, tech says all phones show having full access to data.
So has anyone had this issue and successfully fixed it? If so how? It's driving us crazy.
Thanks in advance.

Ok it's actually easier to give you instructions on the main thread but first I need you to make sure you have access to a computer unless you are actually using xda so assuming you are near your computer when you have time back up your wife's phone with smart switch, here is a download link http://www.samsung.com/us/assets/Smart_Switch_pc_setup.exe
Matter of fact I got a call from T-Mobile telling me to try to "flash the software" and use the Smart Switch to back things up. I downloaded the Smart Switch for PC but when I tried to open it, it wouldn't install, gave me some weird error message.
So once I get the phone backed up, can you point me to how to flash the T-Mobile software? I'm crossing my fingers this is fairly easy since I'm not much of a tech when it comes to deeper smartphone tweaking (ROM's this and that lol).
Thanks for your help folks. I just want a smooth running phone vs. giving T-Mobile $30 more a month for an identical phone.

I guess the big question, what are the odds that this bricks her phone?
thx
And then in Odin you will see 4 tabs BL AP CP CSC click on the BL button next to the message box and select your downloads folder do this for the AP CP and CSC as well and click start

The bootloader is locked so you can only brick your phone if you unplug it while it is flashing also you may have to use a modified Odin program so if you need it let me know
So to confirm the steps:
First backup my phone using Samsungs software via my PC then..
Download the two files you posted earlier TO MY PC.
Open Odin and get the folders situated..
Plug in the phone to the PC and set it to Download mode
Let it do it's thing..once done I should have the full T-Mobile software and no more AT&T junk?
Sound correct..if not, please fill in any missing steps.
Much appreciated.
