Hi all
I was seriously considering purchasing the nexus s when i saw that theres no mentioning of radio, and for someone who listen to radio a lot it kinda disappointed me.
is it true? will i have no radio if i buy the nexus s?
i guess you mean FM-Radio...
after all i read, is the chip fm-enabled, but the OS is not. so you would probably have to wait like on the Nexus One till some guys enable the FM software sided with an app or so!

Personally, I don't care about the FM radio, but your suggested solution isn't a complete one for a few reasons:
1) iHeart doesn't include all FM stations, pandora doesn't include any, I'm not sure Wunderradio has them all either (do all stations simulcast on the net?).
2) I think a full time data connection streaming is going to use more juice than an FM radio receiver. iHeart chews through my battery pretty quickly.
3) An FM radio should receive a signal in places that you may not get a stable data connection.
All the other options available to us are the reason I don't care about FM radio (commercials suck on FM radio), but for some it's still the preferred choice (maybe they like a particular DJ or morning crew...
Yes, i mean FM radio and i kinda listen to it a lot. This is realy disappointing to me. I also assume that enabling the chip means i will have to root the phone in order to use it right? which is something i also didnt want to do... guess i will have to wait for the next phone to come, choose something else or just compromise on the FM radio which is unlikely

Yes, the i9000 does, out of the box. I think the Vibrant (T-Mo version) does, too.
I found this great Android app 'TuneIn Radio' on AppBrain: http://www.appbrain.com/app/tunein.player
This Should Help... All Radio Stations should be there and all it uses is Data.. For Free! Yay! =)

Hey
I wanted to know if it was possible to use the FM transmiter in some Android phones and use the phone as a real FM walkie talkie. Thanks.
Thats sounds impossible to me. Since the broadcom chip onbaord is FM RX only.

good afternoon guys,
can someone suggest me an offline fm radio to install on my 9023I with 4.0.4 on board?
thanks for your help
The Nexus S doesn't have a FM receiver... any offline radio app won't work.

No matter what app you use for fm radio, it won't work on our device because the Nexus 5 does not have an FM radio receiver buit in.:good:
Just create your own stations in Pandora or other stream apps....
Tune in radio is a good internet-based substitute

Hi, anyone knows if it will be possible to enable FM Radio and if it will be usable with Spirit, NextRadio or an other app?
Thanks for all your answers!

Hi ! if you download a streaming radio app like RadioFM you'll be able to stream the radio stations that you like, so yeah you can !
Alex2483 I was talking about an FM tuner of course, not an app..

I would like to receive fm radio too!
Apparently the Snapdragon has FM radio functionality built-in out of the box.
How do we enable it?
Have you tried the root app Spirit2? I've got it working on a Z3C 6.0.1. I haven't seen many reports on later Sony devices. It's likely not to work though if something's changed as it's no longer under development and the creator passed away.

Did Sony ground the pins or is the hardware fully functional?
I tried NextRadio but it doesn't support Sony devices...
I believe that the premium doesn't have fm tuner.
At least my G8142 doesn't. I have also a Z3v which does have fm tuner but the "awesome" verizon ( to do not say a bad word) has blocked it, but we can see it on the service menu and test it as well.
Just dial
*#*#SERVICE#*#*
And go to the service test menu and look if you have it. (I bet no because before I had bought mine I researched it and at least for the 8142 wasn't available but as far as I remember the 8141 was also unavailable)
Cheers
Sux. FM radio is free and no data usage
