Hi i would like to find out if any themes actually change the user interface. Most themes only do subtle changes. I wanted more of an overhaul. Similar to Samsung theme or Huawei.
Any recommendations would be highly appreciated.
Even workarounds

Substratum is your best bet for that but you also need Andromeda for our XZP for it to work without root on Oreo. It might be tricky to use at first but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy and straight forward to use

Here's the deal–I'm a graphic designer who found myself sans job, and have been looking to do some different kind of work to keep from going insane. I have thought about trying to prog my own apps, but java is still a bit over my head. So if there are any devs that could use some design work for apps, wallpapers, or whatever, PM me and we'll go from there. Right now, im thinking this service would be free of charge...

I agree with pushing the Android standard forward. Some of the best apps out there look like total trash.

Preach on brother. AND it really pisses me off that having a grid of rounded rectangle icons with reflections is seen as the pinnacle of mobile design today.

Suggestion: make mock-up's of some popular apps with better layout and post them. You may get some attention and create a buzz.

AH! Thats a superb idea. I have a couple in mind, but does anyone have any requests they want to see in particular?

This depends on how far you are looking to go. Just icons, full UX?
Perhaps a mockup of a file browser (root explorer for example) would be a good start. They are all quite rudimentary in layout/design but most function well.
Again, this depends on what aspect of design you are talking about.

Ah nice.
I would definitely overhaul a client app that has a TON of downloads in the market. Most devs have zero understanding about layout, nor do they care. File browers/explorers, chat clients, irc clients, etc are all big time offenders.
Just look at the top downloaded free apps and go for one that you actually use. By selecting one you use, the flow through the app is something you are familiar with and fixing/redoing the experience becomes personal and understood.
That's how I would go about it anyways

This is a key part, IMO. Great advice from deprecate.
Also, FYI - I just wanted to let you know that your portfolio is very impressive. As a fellow UI designer, you've got some skills.

Hey, thx for the kind words. Sometimes you can forget what you have accomplished inn the past when times are tough.
I just know that I've used the great stuff you guys have made, and I really want to give back to the community. Since I cant prog worth a damn, graphics is gonna have to be it.
I hope you are able to do some work with Android developers. They really need it.
Get the AppAware app to check out what is most popular and make som mock-ups of those. I'm thinking Twitter (though there are a couple of good ones), RSS reader, Dialer, File explorer, Media player (podcast streamer, video player, youtube! oh good it
s so baaad). Or you could make a base interface that can be used on several different apps.
Right now, I'm looking at Andchat with zer0day. When/if we find an improved layout for him,I'll post it up like I did with the Pandora concept.
How about looking into Meta Morph and theming?
Since everyone wants their phone to look different than the next guys!
You could do some theming of your phone, post screen shots, and get some more buzz that way.
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.
I'm a UX designer and am willing to help.
Graphic designer + Dev + UX designer = great software
Recently my friends and I (all S8 owners) were going into the black style to save battery. We were looking for a theme that simply made the native apps black without changing the way the app looks at all (black instead of green on the phone icon but keeping the new S8 look). I don't know if Samsung doesn't allow people to make themes based off their SamsungExperience design, but I've consulted many people who would like to see this theme for the phone but it simply doesn't exist, and I do not have a computer capable of running any of the required software to make a theme (not to mention I have nill as far as experience in this). I was wondering if anyone would be willing to make a theme like this.

I'm using a dark theme from the theme store, pixel nav bar, red with dark notifications and no battery in the status bar. No root needed, just install the apk and reboot, if you don't like uninstall through settings and reboot.
I'm trying to figure out which theme engine is better. I have used both but am looking for others opinions. Which one do you guys suggest.

Personally I prefer Substratum, been using it for several years. Downloaded Theme Galaxy and gave it a look - uninstalled it.

I always end up getting force closes on apps about a month after I install a theme on substraum. That's the only reason I was trying this one. But I feel like substraum is more integrated.
Samsung themes FTW!
There are some great devs for themes in telegram. So about Substraum.. Well, imagine and u walk on the street and you see some dog sh!it. This is it. One big brown sh!t and u can call it substratum. Is so shi!!ty I cant even explain it. And i don't see a reason to use it on Oreo since custom themes doing much better work than this sh!it called substratum. Even I signed the petition, I think Google doing the right choice to kill it. Substratum bugged my phone so hard I couldn't even do phone calls...And even didn't theme everything like custom themes does it. I think substratum should stay in the past. IMO .

Are you on Oreo? If so there is an official beta of substratum that's been working great for me. Sometimes the app is updated several times a week.
Substratum is still under development. There are about 2 - 3 updates every week.
You need to have Telegram and go here
// substratum ci //
Official beta builds for every new commit. Uninstall Play Store version first!
Andromeda:
- Tap on the connection card 8 times, click "Bypass check"
Custom ROMs:
- Go into Settings, Developer Options, Force Authorize Theme Systems

Samsung themes are barely acceptable, not much theming at all. Only icons that change are the stock samsung themes. Haven't had any reboots or any problems at all with substratum on Note 8 Oreo or S8+ on Oreo.

I use some Biohazard, Swift Black, System Mods and StatusBar Icons (+extras) for Samsung. I have quite a few others installed but like to mix and match.

Hey,
Is Samsung going to share with us dark theme? I'd like use it to minimize battery drain. I've seen some custom dark themes, but they does not look good plus they have ugly icon pack.
Have you tried theme Galaxy - Theme Maker for Samsung Galaxy? It available in Play Store. It's like DIY theming, means; you make your theme by yourself. It's free too. I'm using it, it's fantastic.

I do not know how to use this app. I can't do anything there. It's more like tutorial.

It's user friendly. Just install the app, run it, and select the colors then build and apply. There's a thread here about it.
@DuncaneD
Well, it does not work for me. Tbh I want native dark theme from system. That's why I ask if you know if we will receive that in the future.
Or if you could show me how does your theme look.
Is there any (simple) way to remove the nasty backgrounds on icons forced upon us with the release of Android 8?
One that does not involve editing the apk files, using a custom launcher, or Galaxy Themes.
I remember using Xposed modules on my S Advance and S5 Mini that changed icons visually, is this still a thing with Magisk?
