Hello together,
I'm trying to root my new Honor 8 - FRD-L09 - B394. I flashed TWRP from the official TWRP site (eu.dl.twrp.me/frd) - but when I try to boot into recovery the phone is stuck in the bootscreen "Your device is booting now...". I tried for a lot of hours now... but for me it seems TWRP is not working on this phone.
Has somebody succeded with booting in TWRP in this phone / flashware combination?
Is there a way to root the phone without using TWRP?
Thanks for your help!
You do not read the forum? Why you downloaded twrp from that page?
The Honor 8 section in the xda forum included some tutorial with downloads to flash twrp and root the phone. And this tutorials is working.
Go and read. https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/development/twrp-t3566563
Or use the "Huawei Multi-Tool" which included all you want: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/development/tool-huawei-multi-tool-team-mt-t3523923
Ohh. And if you want to boot to TWRP, just do this:
Press and hold the Volume up + power buttons together. When the phone is booting, release the power button, but hold the volume up and wait until the "orange text" (other, with the normal boot) appear, and release volume up. If twrp correcly installed, its boot to twrp. If not installed, the phone booting to stock recovery.
Hello Mumtaz77,
thanks for your informaiton. Of course I searched the forum for hours - but every "tutorial" ended in "flash the latest version of TWRP". A lot of confusing and misleading information in this forum. So the information "Huawei Multi-Tool" is not useful as well - of course I had installed it - but are you sure the offered "GeatSlon_Mod" is correct? (and - what the heck is it?) The offered "3.1.1-0" definitely doesn't work.
Yes - I can confirm this tutorial works with the linked TWRP. BUT: Don't make a factory reset afterwards! You will end in an "encryption broken" - brick. But that's another story.
Thanks for your help.

Not able to get into TWRP recovery, stuck on "Your device is booting now..."
Hey everyone,
I just unlocked my bootloader and now want to flash TWRP and SuperSU. My Phone is already Nougat with Emui 5.
The Problem is that I'm just not able to enter the recovery. When pressing volume down + power or trying "adb reboot recovery" in the command line, the phone starts in the "unlocked bootloader warning screen". But not like in the normal warning screen it doesn't give me options but just shows a white line saying "Your device is booting now..." and thats where it gets stuck. Only gets hotter...
The fun thing is I already was in the recovery but wasn't able to flash the SuperSU (r275). Maybe it was not compatible with Nougat. TWRP just couldn't mount various things. After reflashing the recovery below instead of some other version (don't know anymore) I'm not able to enter the recovery again.
Feels like I searched the whole Internet and there is nearly nobody with the problem or a solution. Tried this as well: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/help/honor-8-boot-to-twrp-recovery-lost-root-t3567462. It seems like nobody who published a Honor 8 + Nougat + TWRP + SuperSU "How To" acutally tried it himself.
I used this TWRP https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/development/twrp-t3566563
Please help me I can't use WhatsApp because I need to restore it with Titanium (Database way doesn't restore all chats... Other problem)
Thanks everybody I just can't stand this anymore
I had this issue after downgrading to EMUI 4.1 and upgrading to 5.0 again via twrp. I flashed some old 3.0.2.0 version from another developer. Booted into that, flashed the update.zip package for emui 5.0 and then i was able to successfully flash and boot into 3.1.1.0

Thank you I got it!
So I got my L09 with Nougat/Emui 5 on it. Then just used TWRP from https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70228949&postcount=252 (bootable, think ist ist 3.0.2.0) then flashed 3.1.1.0 from https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/development/twrp-t3566563 (bootable) and finally flashed SuperSu from first Link again. Other SuperSU versions (like the phh r275) WERE NOT flashable.
Magisk is the most compatible root solution for the Honor 8 on Nougat. The only thing that doesn't work (seamlessly) is MagiskHide, but the root itself works and flashes fine from TWRP.
I have tried to flash twrp multiple times to no success. I have tried multiple variations of the tool but for some reason when I go try to boot into recovery it takes me to erecovery which fails to do anything.
Are you sure about button combination
If you're trying to boot in to recovery with your phone plugged in to the computer it will także you to erecovery. If only i could find the person who całe up with this stupid idea that caused me hours of struggles, they'd pay for it. also when you use the pwr + vol.down combination let go off the power when you feel the vibration and further hold the vol.down until you see the boot screen appear.

I tried this like 20 times but this time it worked! I know have TWRP working. weird think tho is that no keyboard or default Huawei apps are preinstalled and BT isn't working.
Few problems with Binary SU and BusyBox
My phone seems to be rooted. Titanium Backup works but I have to accept every App instalation manually. With other settings restoring gets stuck. Also SuperSU reminds me every time that my BinarySU needs an actualisation but fails if it tries. And finally BusyBox just isn't able to get itself installed.
I'm thinking about restoring stock firmware, update to Nougat, and flash the two TWRP Versions and SuperSU again but hate to spend ours on my phone. OnePlus One rooting was sooo easy...

Is there a number of times you have to do it? How should I transition from this stupid "Your device is an enemy of the state" screen to something that will connect to adb?
Hi all,
This is not the right forum, but I didn't see one specifically for Spark X models, so I'm sorry.
A friend of mine has a Wileyfox Spark X device, which was bootloader unlocked, had TWRP 3.0.2 installed and was running on the original firmware (6.0.1) but rooted and xposed installed.
Now an update came out for Android 7. To update the device, I put back the original firmware and recovery, started doing the upgrades and all went smooth.
Device is up and running on Android 7, however when I now try to install TWRP again, it won't work.
(fastboot flash the TWRP recovery (same version as before - 3.0.2) seems to work ok. I then go to pull the battery after flashing, put battery back, and start recovery by pressing vol down and power.
I see the device going to a black screen, then reboot and keeps doing this as long as I keep the vol down pressed. Once I release the device continues normal boot and goes into Android.
I assume this has to do with a change in Android 7?
Seems I can get TWRP working again, if I flash the original boot image, however then ofcourse the Android boot doesn't work anymore. (additionally once in TWRP, it seems /system cannot be mounted anymore and TWRP thinks no system is installed)
So in short, I believe I should get a newer TWRP version that is compatible with Android 7. I tried the different versions available on twrp.me (up to 3.1.1.0) however to no avail. None works with the latest android.
As such, the device is able to run in android 7, but without root. (no adb root option in developer options, adb root doesn't work either, kingroot etc also no go)
Does anyone have any options that I can still try? or could help me with a proper TWRP version that should work? (I did find some TWRP recoveries on 4pda (russian website) for Spark + that claim to be for Android 7, but those didn't work either))
Thanks !
@Asansi
I'm sorry I can't help you, but may I ask how you rooted the phone? I can't get mine to be properly rooted.
I can help you with any problem. I'm a senior person in that model since I have been using it ever since. If you could like

Apologies for ressurecring a zombie thread but, OP has a spark X and you have a Spark, so it would appear that you SENIOR person in that model failed at the very first hurdle.
Am still wonderng if there is an sign of a 7.0 compatible twrp for spark X? Don't suppose anyone has a link to the latest Spark X firmware either?

I've tried TWRP 3.0.2-0 (i.e. latest from https://dl.twrp.me/porridgek3/): it flashes Ok but it won't boot up afterwards. I've tried 3.0.2-0 but as you say "it seems /system cannot be mounted anymore and TWRP thinks no system is installed)". After letting it finish, Root Checker (not unsurprisingly) says that device is not rooted. Have you progressed with this issue? BTW I've emailed TWRP Support (from their web page) asking if they have a working version.
Same problem here, It's pretty annoying. My sister's getting this same phone (on Android 6) soon so I might just make a full backup with TWRP on it and somehow restore it on my phone.
Systemless Root
I can't decide whether to try the rooting method given in https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/160130/how-do-i-install-systemless-supersu-in-samsung
The method is:
Sometimes the need for a systemless installation of SuperSU is not detected by the installation script, to force this to occur follow the following steps.
Start TWRP 3.0 or higher on the device
Go to Advanced - Terminal
In the terminal, enter echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu
Press Enter
Exit to the TWRP main menu
Flash the current SuperSU as per normal
When flashing SuperSU, you should see in the TWRP recovery log screen mentions of system-less installation and patching of the boot image.
Has anyone had experience of this method?

No, seriously tho, does anyone have any updates on the issue? Or could at least point me in the right direction to root a Wileyfox Spark X? At this point, any help is much appreciated, since I have not been able to get ANY method working for me.
Thanks a lot

I am afraid not, since I can't install TWRP. One info would help me out a lot tho: would an Android-Downgrade (from 7.0 to CM13) help with installing TWRP and rooting?
Steps taken earlier:
quite literally everything (that would make sense even remotely)
Steps taken today:
- Downloading TWRP 3.2.1-0 (https://twrp.me/wileyfox/wileyfoxsparkx.html)
- fastboot-unlocking the bootloader (no issues)
- trying to install TWRP (no issues there either)
- when trying to reboot straight to recovery, I don't get past the bootlogo, suggesting to me that either the install or TWRP was corrupted.
Any help one might get?
Thanks a lot?

The only version that I had success with was 3.0.2 from https://dl.twrp.me/porridgek3/"]https://dl.twrp.me/porridgek3/[/URL]
Even then, It's all hit & miss getting into TWRP:
1. If I do anything after flashing (e.g. booting as normal), I have to go into fastboot & flash TWRP again.
2. Once I have flashed TWRP (i.e. still in fastboot mode), I can't leave fastboot mode. Also, the phone will not switch off unless I remove the battery and put it back in after approx 10 seconds.
3. Even then it often refuses to load TWRP i.e. it goes into the Android Boot menu.
AlwaysLivid suggested that you can boot to TWRP by executing "fastboot boot recovery.img" (where recovery.img is the TWRP img file renamed) on MSDOS Prompt / Terminal according to whether you're using Windows or a Linux distro (e.g. Ubuntu which I use). Presumably this would be after you have taken the battery out for a few seconds before inserting it again and have then booted into the appropriate mode with the Volume Down & Power buttons held down.

Finally, your advice with "Fastboot boot twrp.img" worked magic!
Got twrp installed, but now I'm facing the same problem as you with the systemless root. I'll dig around a little and see what I can find.
I have BLN-L22 device. I installed TWRP recovery 3.1.1- berlin and it installed correctly. Then I found the latest version 3.2.1-berlin on official TWRP app. So I flashed that one and rebooted to recovery. Since then the phone is stuck at the bootscreen which shows 'Phone is unlocked, booting' message.
I can't connect to PC and how can I recover to original?
Official TWRP app (and relative site obviously) leads to a non working build of TWRP, i stumbled upon the same scene too while flashing official 3.1.0 version took by their site... Don't know why. Modded versions of TWRP made by OpenKirin team and HassanMirza01 works correctly instead. Here https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/development/twrp-honor-6x-hassanmirza01-t3733201 you'll find a working 3.2.1-0 version, i tested it by myself.
Now, to get rid of this and flash a working TWRP, you have to boot to fastboot mode with manual method, so begin with completely shut off the phone by keeping held power button for 10+ seconds.
Then, connect the phone to PC with the USB cable, and boot it up by keeping pressed power button and held down volume - immediately as you hear the vibration. From fastboot, you'll be able to flash back the working TWRP.
Problem Solved

Then I could install the compatible version of TWRP successfully.:good:

You can successfully flash even non compatible images. the problem only arises when you boot them. Simply, they won't be able to boot because they're incompatible.
first, get into fastboot, flash compatible recovery(they are different for emui 5 and 8, so check before you flash). Then boot to recovery by pressing and holding power and volume up button at once from the fastboot mode itself.
Update me with the result. I'll tell you what to do next based on whether the flash works or not.
I bought a fairly new 2015 tablet a guy a bought it from had Blisspop OS on it v3.8 -( it was mint in box ) anyway in trying to get it to accept the official Nvidia OS - it failed many times in Twrp recovery i hit the wipe by mistake now the hard drive got wiped and it only hangs at the Nvidia Logo - is there anyway top recovery it? I had a backup on my sd card of the Blisspop OS but i was hoping i could access it via ADB fast boot ( been reading yet unfamiliar with the process ) when i hold the pwr button and volume down it takes me to the recovery but it just goes back to the logo screen it not even going into twrp ( no dounbt because the drive is wiped ) its this futile or can i recovery it somehow
If you can enter TWRP you are saved
As long as you can enter fastboot mode you are safe as well
In case you don't have twrp you need to enter fastboot:
I believe its power + vol down (might be up its beeb years since Ive entered anything with button combinations). When you're there follow this guide to flash TWRP. You will also most likely need to flash some old version because new ones require the newest firmwarw and bliss os is quite old (again I might be wrong). When you have TWRP follow Lineageos [OFFICIAL] by steel thread to get the latest firmware file and flash it. Then you need a rom and that can be any one you like (you aon't find a rom on Steel's thread but there are new LineageOS threads).
Good luck
I decided to give this rom a try and I needed to flash TWRP but apparently it wasn’t the right version or something. But what happened is, before I flash twrp via Odin I don’t why I wasn’t able to enter download mode by pressing [VOL - and POWER]. I was able to do it through bootloader option in the standard recovery, so I did, but twrp didn’t run correctly, its home page shows glitches then the phone turns off and boot by it self again to the glitched twrp screen and keeps doing this over and over till the battery dies, and whatever I tried to press nothing happens, it’s like trying to wake a phone that doesn’t have any recovery or download mode.
Is there anything I can do?

Can you provide a link to the manual with which you flash TWRP?

Actually I wasn’t able to enter download mode in the usual way [VOLdown and POWER]. I think this happened after the last firmware I used, I noticed something isnt right because It has so many bugs but I kept using it for a year because I was afraid to break the phone permanently. But now when I took the risk I entered download mode through bootloader option.
Here the twrp I tried to flash

Why are you trying to start DOWNLOAD mode via two buttons VOL DOWN and POWER, when the TWRP flashing manual says to press three buttons?
Code:
1. Put your device in DOWNLOAD mode.
(Hold POWER + VOL DOWN + VOL UP)
Re-flash TWRP exactly as instructed but without RMM.

the problem is not the twrp in that thread, but probably your stock firmware(if you are using one) because if your current firmware is from 2021 and so on.. then flashing a custom recovery will give you a glitching twrp so try doing this tutorial first https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/updated-september-2022-how-to-root-a7-2018.4488289/#post-87528089 before flashing twrp in your phone, just download the firmware for your device dated dec 2020 or last firmware update in 2020 then extract it.. then flash the bl_file(just the bl file of that 2020 firmware) to your phone then try flashing twrp again to your phone by following the instructions in the thread you posted here.
in case you have followed the full tutorial in that link I put up there, then you probably have a phone that can be modified because of bl_file from 2020 and a latest security patch(if you followed the ful tutorialsin that link up there), and in case you want to root your phone then follow the tutorials here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-how-to-root-galaxy-a7-2018.4318969/ then before you put a lock screen and make your finger print and face detection work you have to patch this module in magisk manager https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-passing-safetynet.4318941/ to avoid being locked, because if you root your phone without patching the safety net will lead you into a loop.
