I had the same issue. I just tried the GCam5.1.018-Arnova8G2-V1.3 and it works successfully.
Do give it a shot.

All it does is blur the background..

Didn't work for me - the shutter button doesn't seem to do anything, then the app crashes.

Arnova's GCam V1.4 is out. Working fine for me. Portrait mode needs to be enabled under settings. Will post some photos soon.
Anyone with the most appropriate B-S-G mod settings for Config Camera HDR+ and Model?
Right now I have set it to Pixel 2017 Zsl HDR+ and Model = Pixel 2 with HDR+ parameters = Very high.

Does portrait mode for you on the front camera? It works on the rear, but if I try on the front, it doesn't take a picture and then just force closes.

Just tried the GCam5.1.018-Arnova8G2-V1.2 file and it worked as expected for both front and rear camera on a U11 DUHL 128 Gb. No special bug and acceptable quality may you find. An effective trick that I like !

Any dev can port Pixel 2 camera to Samsung S8? Edit: Camera Link available

https://chromloop.com/2017/12/apk-enable-portrait-mode-nexus-5x6p-og-pixel-phone-google-camera-mod/
As google pixel 2 camera is ported to Pixel, 5x and 6p
I wish any dev can port it for Samsung S8 also that would be really great
We dont need secondary camera then for portrait mode and less intelligent selective focus also.
Not My work just sharing in Main post as user don't have to search the entire thread -
Here is a link to the camera mentioned above:
Camera: MGC_5.1.016_7.0+C2API_v.1.3d_AllinOne.apk
Settings:
Model: Pixel 2XL
Config: Nexus 6 HDR+ Auto
HDR+ Parameters: Super High
Final JPG Quality: 100%
I would like a working port of that aswell. The results of the HDR+ port are already amazing.
We could call out a bounty for port-development. I for one would be happy to donate some bucks for a working port.
Talking about the exynos version of course
Edit: A Version with portrait mode is already running on Galaxy Note 8 with oreo beta.... of course it´s snapdragon only

yup first exynos than snapdragon
I Appreciate To see pixel 2 xl camera app on s8 with new vr effect ( i want r2d2 near me )
I wish for that too. I love my S8+ so far, only missing feature is portrait mode. I wonder why Samsung doesn't officially push a software update with software blur added like the Pixel 2. And also I highly doubt any such ports will be made for the Exynos variants, Snapdragon probably.
@Arnova8G2 - Will it be possible to support the Samsung s8 with your mod? I tried Version 1.3 but it didn't seem to work.

We have this portrait mode ever since but with a different name and it's called selective focus.. idk why people keeps on whining about the portrait mode..

Working Pixel cam with HDR+ and standalone portrait on s8 (exynos-nougat)

This is not my work. I'm only providing links of others work, and hope someone can develop the app further for s8.
This is the version I found that has working front and back camera included tap to focus.

(Please click on the uploader "Kisakuku" for other apk's)
One Working Settings( there are several):
Modelixel 2xl
Config cam: Nexus 6 hdr+
Hdr+ parameter: High

https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/themes/app-collection-camera-modded-t3591177
My findings: Great detail( good for portraits), preserves highlights, some more noise, pinkish/purple edges in very low light, some halo/rainbow effect in some pics, fast shutter (great for capturing movement out and indoor).
Update1. Portrait
Working Portrait mode for back camera only. In this version tap to focus i slow.
Tip for the full experience is installing this version with AppCloner app (change name to portrait) and have both versions installed at the same time. Use this version just for Portrait mode.

Is the the latest version of Google cam or the old version of Google cam?
Yes, One of the latest working cam on s8. You could try newer versions ( se "Kisakuku" s other uploads and see if it works). There seem to be small difference in photo quality among different versions.
Thanks
There is a newer versione with portrait mode. but here on my G950F don't works. Hope to get it very soon. Probably it's working for snapdragon version.. hope we will get on exynos too!! https://www.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-portrait-mode-port-non-google-android-oreo/
Try this mod with your setting. I worked very well but very slow when i took the picture. Due of the hdr + is this normal ? Sometimes the image is freezing or black for few second.
Yes,hoping for a working portrait mode. Also that some of the other issues mentioned get fixed.
The app isnt perfect but I'm thrilled it works so well on an non pixel/snapdragon phone. One downside is the processing time and shutter lag. That isnt the same as slow capturing the moment. The shutter is fast when taking picture and freeze movement more often than on stock. The pics for me turns out great. Even better results than the same app on s7 (installed on my girfriend's phone). Both picture quality and the image stabilization function. I now even use this app more than native S8 camera.
A tip is to install BxActions and use doublepress on the bixby button to open the camera.
Yep i wanna try some shoots someday for comparisons.
Honestly i don't even know we can capable working hdr + on exynos.
So thanks for this ?

Can confirm Portrait mode is working on the Oreo Beta on rear cam only (based on the settings in your attachment). The results I have to say are brilliant. Not sharing any pictures of my ugly mug with you all though haha!
But why works only with faces?
R U kidding me? It´s called Portrait Mode and a Portrait ist per definition a photo of a humenbeing! Why don´t you use the selective focus from the stock cam for other things you want to shoot?

Front camera isnt working at all. App crashes everytime. What do you think are the best settings for good pictures?
What is ZSL ? Do we have to use it with O+5T ?
Sorry for the noob question. I try 1.3 and I like the portrait mode, and I use settings :
Config : Nexux 6 auto
Model : Pixel 2XL
HDR + : High
And it works great even with portrait mode, just hate the white dots...
Front camera does not work, it crash.
Edit : portrait only works on people, not objects, why ? v1.3
Edit : V1.4 I don't have portrait mode, so it's useless for me.

Zsl means zero shutter lag will only work on the configuration that supports it. Pixel 2017 zsl supports zsl and you also have to enable it from the advance setting. In zsl pic is immediately clicked without any shutter delay. It is not mandatory to use in op5t.

@Arnova8G2, @azazello22, just tried V1.5Beta2. My logcats are long form, but I'd rather have too much, than miss something, so I couldn't upload them here, so I had to put them on my server.
Switching to front cam, changing no settings, crashes. Sometimes it displays a picture for a split second before it does. Other times it's just a black screen before crashing.
http://www.cdmfabrication.com/logcats/switchtofrontcam.txt
DokatSuya's settings work. However if you aren't on the exact right settings, it's will crash every time. The screen just goes black and the camera crashes.

Didn't test it thoroughly, but in both versions portrait camera works and so does slow motion (this two were the most reported bugs I saw).

This one: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog225/ Based on https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog223/ which I believe is based on BSG or Arnova version.

So far so good. I like the personalization menu of this one better than the Arnova one.
Didn't test it thoroughly, but in both versions portrait camera works and so does slow motion (this two were the most reported bugs I saw).
Anyone trying diferent versions, let us know so we can compare.

Thanks for the tip, this one really works better then the Arnova cam!
Tested all photo mods, no crash

Tried this one. But the portrait mode of the front cam isn't working. It's not capturing anything.

It's working for me. But if it's not working, I suggest (,reinstalling or,) trying the one it's based on (check my previous post). And if still buggy, try others posted here. Or go for the arnova ones. They act like regular apps, so you can try and try.
Also, I've noticed they treat the colors in a diferent way. If anyone with time wants to compare the actual pictures, it'll be nice
Could someone that has followed this guide and enabled camera2 API download this app from play store. Camera2 probe https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.weis.camera2probe
And post your screenshot please
I have not enable camera2 API yet and was curious if that physically changes the hardware level support.
Thanks in advance

Much appreciated.
I will be following your guide tomorrow for root and looking forward to to playing with this device. It's good to see a bit of a community starting.

Thanks for this guide.
I'm currently using Arnova's v8.3b1 Google Cam, and I also noticed that sometimes after taking a picture it takes forever to process HDR images. The front cam with HDR on force closes when you take a picture as well.

For the front cam, the flash thingy (white screen of death) causes a crash. Disabling it will let you have a front cam that doesnt take pictures lol
@adriakus thanks for the report bruh. Tried the one you shared and front cam works! Updated the post for others. Thanks man!
@fake__knv Thx for the credit! I'll keep trying other versions from now and then and I'll post them here if I find any differences.

Working Gcam Astrography for one plus 7 pro

I was looking for a working Gcam with astrography on my One Plus 7 pro and i tried more than 30 different apks by different modders all had issues with astro and i accidentally discovered that the version PMGC_7.2.014_Relesed_V1.apk from Parrot043 with working astrography. I have uploaded few pics with astrography.
Know bug : Astrography will start but it will not end automatically you have to manually end it after the timer stops.
PS : I take no credit of this application as well as bugs. All credits go to the developer Mr.Parrot043

Works pretty werll despite being in a light polluted metropole
Thanks for sharing, i can confirm it works on 7 pro ob7.
Btw i shared the exact same apk on a telegram group for our device, i think there was a guy named "sir tavares", she insisted on that astro cant be done on op7pro, go buy pixel etc. Then she banned me when i shared the apk to the group ?
just be careful guys this type of people are toxic in your life beware of them and their group.btw i have screenshots of his language i can share if anyone wants to see it.more like "sir moron".

How are your switching between lenses? I can only access the main rear and front cameras.
Also, can confirm that Slow Motion and Selfie Portrait crash the app. (currently on OP7pro 10.3.0)

Regular Portrait works, Selfie Portrait crashes.
That's really odd about the settings, mine looks totally different. Are you using some magisk module or custom kernel?
(I'm using the version you linked in the first post.)

That's my front can in portrait. Right now I'm running bliss 10. I did use the app before flashing it and was on beta 7. Try to flash a pixel mods in magisk. I noticed I had to flash gapps for it to even run on bliss alone

Hmm, it must be some combination of Bliss Rom/kernel that is enabling a different menu and front Portrait. I'm on stock 10.3.0.
I read in another thread that the GCam app needs to be a system app (in the system/priv-app folder) to enable access to the aux cameras. I tried moving the app folder there, but it just moved itself back after a reboot. I'm seeing if I can move the app some other way. Not sure if any of those Magisk modules from your screenshot would help with the app settings.
Edit: successfully converted the app to a system app using the App Systemizer Magisk module. Made no difference for the settings (still don't see options for aux cams). Oh well, must be a rom/kernel issue. Thanks for you help!

Thanks for this. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for the Parrot version, only the Urnyx. The colors on the Parrot version are pretty bad, and the selfie cam won't work (3/4 cameras not working) so I've switched to Urnyx, and have the tele/zoom/selfie lenses all working now, but lost Astrophotography. Oh well, I give up.

For me, the colors on the PMGC 7.2.014 were terrible (initially pale, unsaturated; improved a bit with saturation settings) but I just couldn't get the white balance right.
I've attached 4 pics: Stock 10.3.0 cam (default), Stock 10.3.0 HDR forced on, Urnyx05 7.2.010 (1.6), and PMGC 7.2.014.
(Note: It seems you can get different settings based on your rom/kernel, so your results may vary.)
I preferred the Urnyx05 7.2.010 (HDR always on) slightly over Stock with HDR (though, depending on how you like your shadows, you might even prefer stock). The color accuracy between these 2 was the same. Stock without HDR didn't handle shadows well, and PMGC needs settings adjusted before it's functional.

The above review and attached screenshots refer to the main camera. I just realized you were asking about the aux cams. I compared the Stock HDR vs Urnyx Gcam HDR (I suspect the PMGC will have similar results as the Urnyx after adjusting the color/saturation settings):
Telephoto (Zoom): Stock starts "3x", Urnyx Gcam is labelled "2x" but is showing only a slightly wider field of view than stock. Stock appears to be zooming/cropping some of the native image. Color accuracy is about the same. Default settings in Gcam make the picture undersaturated (like PMGC), but given the Lib Patcher settings, contrast & saturation can be boosted to match stock. About a tie here once you play with the Gcam settings.
Wide: Once again, Stock cam crops/zooms into the native image more, so the Urnyx Gcam has a wider image. However, Urnyx Gcam makes no lens correction and the edges are pretty distorted. The colors on this lens showed the most difference, with the stock being slightly more saturated with a much better HDR result, while the Urnyx Gcam is lighter/less saturated (likely adjustable in GCam's additional settings), but not a great HDR output. Stock cam wins here, with the significantly better HDR and lens correction. (Note: attached images are cropped for privacy; upper-right ~75% of the image is shown)
