hi thanks for sharing .
trying both a and b and says failed.
remoteartition flashing is not allowed

Is there a reason why it says for galaxy a5? xD

Hi.
I can confirm that the above method works. You have to unlock your bootloader first.
Go to About phone -> Build number, tap it a few times until you enable Developer options. In there make sure OEM unlocking and USB debugging is enabled.
Reboot to fastboot (VOL- + Power) and type fastboot oem unlock, reboot phone, turn off and start in fastboot mode and execute first post commands.
It works passing SafetyNet once you finish installing latest Magisk.
Good luck.

when installing the magisk manager ? before patching, like any other apk ? also, no need of regular magisk ?

After executing all commands from first post if you check ROOT status it will be OK but SafetyNet will be broken. Then install magisk from inside Magisk Manager, the recommended way and is will pass it.
At least it worked like that for me.
Good luck.

ok, but when we are installig the magisk manager?..as it is an APK - so have to install it like any other application.. but when ? before or after executing the commands ?

After everything from first post.
Inside Magisk manager you have the button Install no other apk.
Good luck.

magisk manager ask for .img ? but where it is located ?

You must unlock your bootloader first. Follow my previous steps.
After that, reboot, you will see an message when booting from Linux system. It's normal.
Follow steps from first post here.
After installing magisk manager, entering fastboot and patching boot image, start the system and after that, install magisk from inside magisk manager.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

ive rooted my phone beforehand, will this method still work?

Here is a easier process if you really want to check if the boot.img is compatible:
First enable OEM Unlock in developer settings
- Reboot to fastboot (volume down + power)
- fastboot oem unlock (won't wipe)
- fastboot boot patched_boot.img
- After Android finishes booting, install Magisk Manager.
- In Magisk Manager, use Install and install the latest Magisk with Direct Install
- Reboot and you're done

Is the patched boot.img compatible with Oreo stable? The patched boot.img says it's for Galaxy A5, that's creepy.

Cannot open TWRP mode
Hi guys. I am using Baseband version of C5000ZCU1AQC1.
I have already disabled FRP and CROM. And I flashed TWRP using Odin(success) But right now when I follow key sequence and try to boot into TWRP...
It brings me into Recovery.
I cannot access the TWRP.
What is wrong?
At this point should I wipe cache partition & data and then try updating the custom ROM using sdcard? Because if I try to click 'update from sdcard' it shows me that it is not possible.
Also. How to backup everything without TWRP??? This is so confusing. Since I don't have the same firmware version should I just not risk it? Please tell me.
If it's not possible in anyway I would break this phone in two if not.

Flashing boot and twrp on this thread will clean your kernel and twrp. No need to flash ftf or unroot, but if you want to start with a clean install flash ftf.
If you have SuperSU app as a system app, use Full unroot function on SuperSU app to clean SuperSU app.
Connect device with ADB mode

[HOW-TO] Root Nokia 8 with Systemless Magisk

Reason for edit: Change title so more users can find this method since for now TWRP is working but not to root
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Hello fellow XDA users,
On this post I'm going to explain how I got root on my own Nokia 8 TA-1004, please be patient because this is my first thread under any development section!!
I've been following all threads here on XDA and for the last few days its like a boom of new information, yesterday a Senior Member provided me with the Unlock Key generated with my IMEI1 and the phone's bootloader is now unlocked:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now the next logical part I would be installing TWRP to flash the magisk flashable zip to the phone, but there is no TWRP built to our phones (old information, there is now an official TWRP build)..
To my surprise there is this thread that offers boot images already patched with root ( @nummerok are they patched under magisk?), I tried flashing first with:
Code:
fastboot boot NB1-0-484A-00WW-boot.img
But it did not worked, no matter what the installed Magisk Manager would not find the Magisk Module on the system.
Then I found out that some users were getting root but with the problem of losing wifi connectivity, that was found to be the fault of the phone having the March Security Patch (00WW_4_84A_SP01) while flashing the boot image of the phone with the February Security Patch (00WW_4_84A).
As of this new A-B partition scheme on Android, when your boot image does not pass dm-verity it restores the older version automatically (Am I right on this point?? can please someone confirm?!)
Since my phone WAS on the march patch I saw no other option but to wait someone to grab the march boot image to patch it Magisk Manager and get root.
Buut since my generation doesn't like to sit and wait I found that there was a way to roll back to the previous firmware!
What I did was, run this code below on adb to know which slot my phone was:
Code:
adb shell getprop ro.boot.slot_suffix
Then take note of the slot and run:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
After the device starts up in Download Mode you need to switch to the other boot slot. Just run:
Code:
If you are currently on slot A, type this: [B][I]fastboot --set-active=_b[/I][/B]
Or on slot B type this: [B][I]fastboot --set-active=_a[/I][/B]
You should see something like this:
Code:
Setting current slot to 'a'... OKAY [ 0.046s] finished. total time: 0.046s
Now run the code below and cross your fingers!
Code:
fastboot reboot
Once the phone has booted, check in Settings/System/About Phone if your Android security patch level has downgraded to the February one and proceed to the next step.
I've downloaded the full NB1-484A-0-00WW-B03.nb0 firmware from @blackpanther0582 thread under the google drive link and extracted the boot image using the tool made by @heineken78 available over here (be sure to have lots of ram available for the unpack process :fingers-crossed.
With the file NB1-0-484A-00WW-boot.img at hand I've copied it to the Nokia 8 internal storage and ran Magisk Manager to patch it, follow instructions here under Via Magisk Manager (Only support v14.0+) part.
Now grab the patched_boot.img file provided by Magisk from the phone and save it (adb pull or whatever) to your pc and run these commands:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
After the phone boots up in Download Mode run:
Code:
fastboot flash boot_a patched_boot.img
fastboot flash boot_b patched_boot.img
fastboot reboot
With that done, after the boot you can open Magisk Manager to see it fully installed and later on install some root checker app just to be sure of the sucess of your rooting:
Split-screen to the rescue lol
This Nokia 8 is officially rooted but with the previous February patch and I'm itching to install the March OTA provided by @2WildFirE here, any thoughts on that? What about the official system update that still lists the 2018-03 security patch? Would any of which work?
And that is all for now folks!
I would like to thank @the_laser @heineken78 @topjohnwu @blackpanther0582 @nummerok and many others in this invaluable path to learning more about this phone and the Android system in general!
Good Luck!!

btw just to make things clear, the official system update is running for like 10 hours and it seems it's not going anywhere.. would I get success by doing the march update thru the zip you've found?
Yep was working fine here, to bring my wifi back, but lost root [emoji6] what we Really need is twrp and or a method to extract the boot.img from the *. Bin file included in the update zip.

I used your method, but it doesn't work.
When I type "fastboot --set-active=_a",it shows "fastboot usage". I try it fifth time, but it still. I haven't deal anythings about root Nokia8, is it the reason ?

It should work only if you have your bootloader unlocked @contrahelix
You might get it unlocked officially by Nokia or wait for an alternative method.
Also you should update your adb/fastboot tools, then you would get the right error message telling you about the still locked bootloader!

If I'm already on a Magisk-rooted TA-1004 (March 1 Security patch), Build 00WW_4_84A_SP01,
do I need to just go through steps 3-5?
(p.s. it won't erase any data on the phone, right?)
1st update to the latest v4.88B . Then follow 1-5

Enjoy the latest beauty with root.
To root your phone using Magisk,
1) Enable "USB Debugging"
2) Install MagiskManager
3) Download patched boot image from deleted
3) Run "adb reboot bootloader"
4) Type "fastboot boot NB1_4.88B_Rooted_Magisk.img" from same folder where downloaded that img file. [ Don't FLASH it. It will break your WiFi !!! ]
5) Let it boot, and then Open MagiskManager --> Install --> Direct Install.
Once install is done, reboot normally. And - voila - you have MagiskRooted NOKIA 8 ( NB1 )
P.S: Please put hand together for a working TWRP.

Don't flash it - expected wifi will not work. Rather use it to boot your device from fastboot, then use MagiskManager to patch your own boot partition. Previously SP updated worked well ( SP1 --> SP2 ) . But not sure about future update. Though - we will find-out a way together
Thank you so much.
I have an unlocked bootloader and a root via Magisk. How to prepare the device for updating OTA?
Nice. It work perpectly

My device is not detected in CMD for adb devices. I remembered I have installed the driver. Does updating the firmware to latest June Security patch make it undetected? Is there anyone having the latest driver? My phone can't go into bootloader if it can't detect in CMD.

OK i have found a way.
If anyone has problem when root 4.88B June Security Patch, or doesn't have Direct Install option, this is what I have done to get rooted:
1. Enable "USB Debugging"
2. Download MagiskManager and Magisk zip, copy to phone but DO NOT install
3. Download patched boot image by @bidhata, copy to adb folder
4. Open CMD from adb folder and run "adb reboot bootloader"
5. Run "fastboot boot NB1_4.88B_Rooted_Magisk.img"
6. Let it boot, you will see wifi is broken (it's ok) and then install MagiskManager --> Add Magisk zip to Module --> Reboot when installation finishes.
After reboot the phone still has root and wifi working normally. Good luck!

Tryed it. Resulted in a your device is corrupt.
Easy fox if you guys try this.
Download the recovery tool posted. Fallow those instructions. Then download the NA ROM red magic and put the zip in the root of the phone. On the phone go to system update and update front hat zip and you are back up and running on V1.18

He left out an important step. This needs to be done BEFORE doing anything on the phone.
"4. open cmd, then type adb reboot bootloader , then phone will reboot to fastboot mode.
5. Use fastboot flashing unlock, use volume key select unlock , confirm with power button , then the phone will do factory reset and reboot. Now the phone is unlocked"
Can I do that on my red magic 3s?
Thank
thanks finally
So I can flash without unlocking bootloader? I've got to much info on this phone to just let it be erased. And don't have the time to copy everything before doing it. I appreciate your time
