Why would droid OS have all attachments in emails download into your gallery?
How can I stop it? I unchecked "download attachments", but as soon as I open the email to view the attachment, it downloads and puts a copy into my gallery. After vewing the pic, I have to go into gallery and delete it.
Is there anything I can do about this?
Question 2, I saved a pic from a MMS by pressing the and holding the pic. I saved to "SD card". when I go into gallery, its not there?
So for this droid has been okay, but why do they make things so difficult at times!
Any suggestions!
Downloads go into the download folder. While in the gallery you can select to view/hide this folder, or "album" by pressing the menu button. They may not show up immediately in the gallery due to a media scan being required.
i think this is a new bug in sense UI or something because i read this elsewhere about all png's and gif's and email attachment junk showing up in the gallery, and it should not be doing that in any way. like if i receive an email with a border around the email, that border should not be showing up in my gallery as a photo!!!!
so far i've not seen any solution to this.
Yep, I am glad some else is familiar with this!!! Can anyone else confirm this?
Same here. This is my first day on a non-Apple phone since 2007. This is top among a growing list of annoyances. And not just because "Apple doesn't do it that way" but because no one should do it that way.
I can confirm that on my AT&T Inspire 4G, every tiny little logo in everyone's signatures on my corporate email account has bloated my Gallery to over 200 images in one day. Only one of those images is one that I actually wanted to save from an MMS.
I've seen people posting suggestions about how to selectively disable the gallery from seeing certain folders by adding .nomedia files to those folders, but images saved from the Messages app get saved to the same folder as all the garbage harvested from email attachments, and I would like to see those.
This needs to be fixed. People shouldn't be fiddling in the file system for something as basic as browsing the photos on their phone.
Yep I agree 100%, there must be a way for us new guys to do away with this. I am sure it can be done if I would root my phone, but also myself coming from a Iphone, jailbreaking was a easy task. After reading the steps involved in rooting, I do not feel comfortable, I simply don't understand the language. I would love to root it and unleash this beast.
no idea if this will work on the inspire, but on the captivate to get a folder to not show up in gallery you had to put a file called .nomedia in the folder you don't want included.
An easy way to get this is from a command prompt: adb shell
then do touch .nomedia /whatever/folder/you/want it in.
I'm guessing this is only using the sense email app. I don't have a problem with this using gmail. I would suggest using a different email app until HTC gets an update out. Downloading and setting up a different email app takes way less time than deleting hundreds of images daily. Make sure you contact HTC support in regards to bugs and security. Files and pictures being auto downloaded is a pretty big security hole IMO.
I called att today and they called HTC, they never heard of this issue. They are sending me a new phone to replace mine!
How can I share pictures that are in SkyDrive from my phone?

Yes you can.
The question was "how can I?".... I don't see an option from the SkyDrive app or Gallery.

Launch the SkyDrive app.
Press and hold the album you want to send a link to.
If you want to just send a link to a pic, press and hold the pic.
In each case, you get a send link option.
Follow the rest of the on screen steps. Guessing you can figure it out from there and it just wasn't obvious to press and hold.

That should definitely be something that exists in the gallery app, not just Skydrive.
Yah I'm hoping more skydrive functionality will be coming later this year. I would expect in Apollo to be some sort of revamp. Skydrive is nice, but is lacking many functions that would make it great.
Directly No but indirectly you can do
Select a Picture > Long Press on a File > Send a Link > View Only
This opens up Email List, Select any and you will find the link which you need to manually copy and paste and then share.
or you can download it your phone and then share but that sucks on the double.

This is what I want to do. Point is you can't do it from the Gallery/Media which is silly.

You definitely can do this in Gallery!!
Go to the album where your pic is.
Go to the pic.
Select ...
Select Share...
Scroll down to SkyDrive.
Now I have got the SkyDrive app installed in my phone. Maybe that is why I get it integrated within my gallery. I am not sure you get this option without having a sky drive app. But if you do, then the OS will smartly integrate it within your gallery. There is one post of mine in 'iPhone v/s Mango' thread where I've listed all the options I get within the gallery to share. I think it's also mentioned as one of the plus points for Mango OS in that thread!

He means share pictures that are already in a skydrive folder. This is where there is confusion here.
In your pictures hub, if you go to a folder located 'on your phone', you can "share" and share to skydrive, which will put it in skydrive and then share via a link.
But if you go to a "skydrive folder" in your pictures hub, you have no share option. You can't share pictures directly from these folders as they aren't on the phone.
This is some of the functionality that needs to come with Apollo or sooner. You should be able to have all your pictures 'in the cloud' but have all the functionality of local data.

Ah I think that's expecting too much out of it!
Thinking of how it can be implemented:
To share something that is online, you need to access it. You could access things that are in cloud by using SkyDrive app. Then share it as you would. But the gallery which is 'sandboxed' into the phone doesn't have Skydrive access. I think accessing clouds via gallery might be difficult. However what is surprising is - when you scroll to application within the gallery, I get my boxshot (dropbox client) but not SkyDrive! That SkyDrive official app has to update and use the app-link features.
Yeah the skydrive app needs some extra functions... like moving files between folders

Yah, and it wouldn't surprise me to see the skydrive "app" actually just come integrated like that in Apollo. MS is very serious about the cloud, so I expect to be surprised with what they are able to bring in that area in the future.
I'm looking for an app to automatically move any file that appears on the SD card in DCIM/Camera to another folder, e.g. Photos/Unprocessed.
Why? Because I want my photos automatically backed up to Google Photos, but only from the folders I choose. And Camera is not one of those folders. However, Google Photos automatically forces you to back up the DCIM/Camera folder if you want automatic backups at all, which is really dumb:
If you take multiple shots of a scene and want to keep all but one, EVERY shot will waste storage and bandwidth being backed up to Google Photos. Normally I take a bunch of shots of a scene, then when I have a moment go through them and keep only one and move it to a folder it belongs to, e.g. Photos/MyDog. I want that one backed up, but not the others.
maybe I *never* want certain pics to be backed up in the cloud unencrypted, e.g. photos of tax statements or other sensitive docs
maybe there are people in the photo who didn't give me consent to back up their image in any cloud
maybe I don't want to waste time and data backing up a ****ton of pics I know I'll delete. Even if I set the sync to only happen when on Wi-Fi, it's just a stupid waste.
Note that I filed a request with the Google Photos team for this feature like half a year ago, but it fell on deaf ears, so the only solution I see is this: make an app that as soon as a file is created in DCIM/Camera (the folder Google Photos watches), it moves it to another folder, so Photos won't back it up.
hi, it's 2019 and I still can't send a picture or file to my computer instantly, the same way I send it to instagram or whatsapp or whatever.
I mean, I have my pictures synced to google photos, but when it decides it doesn't want to sync the last picture i took, it just wont sync. and even when it syncs right away, I still have to open google photos and download the picture into my pc. I have no interest on syncing all the pictures i take with my computer via google drive or whatever, I just want to be able to take a picture and send it to my pc in 5 seconds. can't believe it's still not a straight forward proccess.
all apps I've used like airdroid seem clunky. what is the easiest way to do so nowdays?

Set the backup to cloud to use mobile data.
Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
I tend fo use MiXplorer for that. Add your PC as a network device and then just copy the picture (or any file) over as you would in any file manager. Hooks into the share menu as well so it's quite straightforward.
I always do that in two ways.
1. I have my PC connect to my phone with an usb cable. Then open the device storage just as an usb storage from my PC.
2. On my phone, I send an email to my own address with photo files as attachments. Then on my PC, I receive the email as well as photos through Outlook.
When I check the google photos app under photo settings/ back up & sync/ /back up device folders I don't see all the albums in my S22 gallery. Is anyone else having this problem?

That's known problem that users have with Google photos. I've looked into this on other forums. Google is not looking into fixing this any time soon.
I've tried multiple things but they really don't apply to what we are trying to do. For example i have a DJI (DRONE) folder that i want to back up but it's not even an option to select.
The only fix was to create a new folder in your "pictures" folder using a file explorer, and then transfer the pictures you want back up into that folder. Google photos will read the folders that are inside your "pictures" folder. You should now be able to backup that newly created folder. Hope that helps
I also wish there was a way to remove screenshots to be automatically backed up, unfortunately with Google photos there is no option to deselect the screenshot folder. Google photos is awesome in so many ways but these quirks are very annoying

Not sure what you mean, but Photos does detect images in the screenshots folder.
maybe the 100GB one drive offer is better than. anyone know if it syncs perfectly??
The problem is with Samsung phones. On previous phone Huawei, I didn't had this issue. Because in DCIM folder were only photos that I took. Everything else were in Pictures folder.
This is really annoying!

I use OneDrive and it works for me. It can be a bit confusing though so this explanation of how it works for me unfortunately must be a bit long. I do backup all except one or two folders on my computer to OneDrive. I don't remember the settings I might have initially put on OneDrive but here is what happens with my photos.
When I take a photo on my phone or do a screen capture on the phone, OD immediately uploads those to the cloud and then downloads them into a folder I have on my computer called "Camera Roll". So, within a few seconds to a minute of taking a photo or screenshot on my phone, those are available on my computer in the Camera Roll folder. Oddly when I then look at my pictures in OD, the photo will be saved there, but the screenshot will not. So even though OD syncs screenshots from my phone up to the cloud and then down to my Camera Roll folder on my computer, OD does not seem to save the screenshots in the cloud storage. But I end up with screenshots both on my phone and on my computer, so this is OK for me.
When someone sends me a photo in a message or email, those seem to get backed up by OD also. If I click the OD option to show photos from all folders, I do see those photos that were sent to me. I do get messages and emails both on my phone and on my computer, so I am not sure if it matters to OD if I first look at a photo received in a message on my computer or on my phone.
Once a photo is on my computer, if I edit it and save it to another folder on the computer, that copy will be backed up by OD also.
It gets interesting when deleting photos.
If I delete a photo from the Camera Roll folder on my computer, it is deleted from OD cloud storage also, but it is left in my gallery app on my phone. Of course, if I open OD on my phone and look, the photo is not there as it has been deleted from cloud storage.
If I delete a photo from my gallery app on my phone, as long as this photo has already been uploaded by OD, the only place it is deleted is on my phone. I like this because I can delete photos off my phone, but they stay in OD cloud storage and in my Camera Roll folder on my computer.
If I delete a photo in OD that has been previously uploaded from my phone’s camera and put into my computer’s Camera Roll folder, it is removed from OD and from the computer’s Camera Roll folder. It is left in my phone's gallery app though.
Hope this helps.

this is what i was worried about. i am trying to find an auto backup strategy where it backs it up maybe weekly. i take a lot of photos and that means i also sift through and delete many so syncing cloud and pc would be a headache. i have my phone san-photos/video already auto backed up to my samsung cloud so i'm just looking for a media sync that works for my needs. thanks for sharing.

Yes, because all photos taken get uploaded right away, and deleting a photo from the camera app does not delete it from OD, you end up with a lot of photos saved in OD that you don't really want. So yes, if you take hundreds of photos, this would be a pain. I am not sure of all the settings in OD though. Maybe you can have it backup only periodically or set it so a photo deleted on the phone also gets deleted from OD?
If I take a photo, it's not uploaded till I open photos: is this normal?

I am using OneDrive and immediately after I take a photo, that photo is uploaded to OD and downloaded to the Camera Roll folder on my Windows computer.
If I take photos on a hike in the woods and have no service, as soon as I get reconnected to cell service or wifi, the photos are uploaded.
